T’was a Dark & Sexy Night when my bestie-with-benefits and I agreed to revamp the kink-themed hotel. We were expecting vibrating beds and heart shaped tubs, not a long-lost flame and certainly not a harem of love. But there's more than just cobwebs in these closets. There are skeletons... and surprise, surprise… some of them are mine.
There’s nothing I enjoy more than making magic in the bedroom but taking on this ‘hotel of horrors’ is driving me crazy. Quite literally, I’m having the strangest flashbacks of kidnappings and asylums. Are the ghostly girls of Wolfeboro trying to tell me something or am I losing my mind? Of course, I’m also having flashbacks of a sensual nature, involving the men around me and the summer I fell in love. The weird part is that some of these memories include the newest ghost hunter in town. But how can I have memories of a man I only just met? Is he the reason I’m being haunted?
We’ll have the hotel ready in time for the grand opening, provided I can stay alive. But that might be easier said than done, with my unbalanced sister stalking me. Not to mention, the ghostly girl who keeps leading me down dark and dangerous hallways.
For a mystery obsessed woman like me, there’s only one thing to do when faced with the dark… click on the flashlight.
DRAKE HEARTY Nancie Dru is the girl of my dreams… and also my nightmares. She’s got one of those faces, that looks different from every angle, that holds secrets. But by the time you’ve uncovered the truth, she’s already stolen your heart and possibly your wallet. She’s the illusive road runner to my persistent coyote. But she’s not my only problem, there’s also Carter Dru’s other daughter. The one I met first. The one I’ve been hired to track down.
NATE NICHOLSON It’s been thirteen years and Nancie Dru still oozes sex appeal from every pore. Her hair is no longer green, but she’s still got that wild streak. She’s the type of girl who can not only keep up but who sets the pace. I met her during a tumultuous time in my life—two screwed up peas in a pod. We were basically homeless, squatting together in an abandoned shack at Weirs Beach in Laconia. Everything was darkness except for her and then I went and ruined it. Or someone ruined it. I’ve been trying to find out who for a while now and I’m close, real close. So, why is she here? This will mess up all my plans.
GEORGIO VAYNE Nancie Dru doesn’t care if I enjoy the occasional lollipop, provided she gets a lick too. She’s a whole lot of fun and she appreciates my love of wood. We are the black sheep brigade and that’s why I agreed to take on this job with her. She’s the designer and I’m the carpenter. There’s only one problem, her ex is the contractor. I don’t know what I did before Nancie. All the fundraisers and snobby dinners, life was unbearable. She saved me. She literally saved me from ending it all and now that I might lose her, I think I want her.
Afraid of No Ghost is a full-length, medium-burn, paranormal reverse harem romance filled with spooky autumn vibes and cemetery crime. So, if you like your psychological suspense with a side of cozy, kooky holiday romance and tongue-in-cheek laughter then you’re in for a Halloween treat. HEA Guaranteed
Rae Stapleton lives in a spooky, old, Gothic house in Canada with her husband, children, and cats. She spends at least forty hours a week creating magical worlds from within the book-lined walls of her study. And yes, there is a secret passageway inside her house. Unfortunately, her kids know about it, so she can’t escape them. Rae loves to hear from her readers.
This is book one of the Haunted House Rehab series and the main character is Nancy Dru, yes she was also known as Nancy Drew in some parts due to her love for investigating mysteries from a young age and her name does sound pretty much the same as well! She and her occasional friend with benefits, Georgio Vayne, have agreed to rehab an old mansion currently being used as some sort of sex hotel, with rooms decorated to particular themes, but very outdated, things such as shag carpet and hideous wallpaper should dress the scene. Her boss Dominic has arranged this with the reluctant owner Richard, who has a few odd fetishes of his own, and wants her to dress up in some very skimpy outfits, like the other female staff, to excite him and the other guests. She has been brought in two weeks early on Richard’s suggestion, to clean the mansion a bit, before all the guests have finally left and the rooms will all be available for her to refurbish, using her interior design skills. What is expected of her in the two weeks before she can get stuck in, is not necessarily going to be pleasant. The house is also famous for being haunted, having been owned by a magician who was blamed for killing his assistant and leaving her body in a large trunk, then killing himself. It made the house famous and a favourite haunt of ghost hunters. A group of paranormal investigators have been hired to look into the ghostly sightings people have seen there. This group is headed up by Drake Hearty, someone from Nancy’s past that she can’t remember! The contractor hired is Nate Nicholson, a former boyfriend of Nancy and her sister Annette. Nancy first met Nate when they were both homeless, after she left her father and sister’s home, fed up with their treatment of her, when she was just fourteen! Nate suddenly disappeared on her after they had got together and she hadn’t seen him since. To find out he lives next door to the haunted house she is to rehab, is quite a shock, and that he has relations living on the other side too! It seems even Drake has close relations nearby and he knows Nancy from the summer when she was fourteen as well, but her memories of that time and beyond seem to have been hidden behind a solid wall in her mind, apart from a brief flashback or two. Georgio and Nancy saved each other in the past and are lovers when they feel the need. He fancies both sides of the coin but has come to realise he needs her in his life and he has always loved her. All three of these men are smitten with her and have been for years. Each tries to protect her in their own way, but there are a lot of secrets surrounding her past and others, as well as a killer or two in the area. She has to deal with being stalked by her unbalanced sister as well as a ghost she refuses to even acknowledge is there, but which one of the ghost hunters can see beside her all the time. She may not have seen the ghost the house if famous for, expect maybe in glimpses of a woman’s figure running up the hill outside, but there is a weaker ghostly figure of a young woman that tries to get Nancy to follow her. The ghost is trying to tell her something but she can’t figure out what. The old building has some secret spaces and a creepy dungeon and there are some places that it is better not to go into all alone, when there is a killer about. First one man is killed and it is made to look like an accident. A private investigator goes missing whilst looking for a missing young woman and there are stories of young women and girls entering the house, never to be seen leaving it! There are far more dead bodies and it seems Nancy keeps finding them, making her a main suspect. Suspicion also fall son each of the men around her, all of who had ample opportunity to be the killer and to be playing games and leaving clues. Add in a jealous and deranged ex-girlfriend of Nate, Callie, and all gloves are off! Lots of lost spirits for the ghost hunters to lead to their final resting place and a killer in league with a ring of sex trafficking and drug running. A complex tale that was difficult to wander through at times, when Nancy and her sister were both described in the same way and the memories of the men are of the complete opposite. There is much more to be found out about Nancy’s past and Annette’s real role in her being with her and Carter Dru, which will be in the next book. Once you get to the final part of the book, it is much easier to follow along, as a simple murder mystery with ghostly hints and lots of missing people to be uncovered. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
This was a good story with twists and turns and lots of interesting characters. However, it wasn't a smooth read, as it had some odd stops and starts and confusing parts. It did keep me engrossed especially at the end...kept you guessing as to who done it...
I very much enjoy this. Although I got some suspicions one somethings but I will have to keep reading the series to find out if I am correct. Clever leading.
This trilogy is set in the mysterious small town of Wolfeboro—infamous for its werewolf lore and large black cat population. Each book has its own murder-mystery plot centered around the FMC’s latest haunted house renovation. In this book, Nancie has been hired to class up a haunted inn which caters to sexual kink—the Monster Mansion—where local legend says a magician murdered his assistant before killing himself.
The murder-mystery of it was extremely convoluted, and best described as a whodunit situation. Everyone is a suspect, and the only way to be found innocent of being the killer is to become the next victim. I mostly enjoyed it, until the end where Nancie remained oblivious to the killer’s identity despite the fact that their actions screamed suspicious.
There’s also a secondary-plot, or rather a series-arc, dedicated to unfolding the secrets buried in Nancie’s past such as—her connection to Drake, missing memories, and family history. It was my need for these answers that had me reading the next book, which just gave me even more questions.
Nancie is a frustrating character. If I was murdered, I’d want her to handle my case because she is great at solving mysteries. On the other hand, Nancie exhibits tstl behavior, such as following leads without any backup and waiting to share any clues until after she’s followed them to a body. The ghost wants her to go into the dark basement?—She *reluctantly* agrees! Stay in a house alone where someone was just murdered?—She’ll lock her bedroom door! Weird sounds coming from a secret passage?—She’ll investigate! On top of that, Nancie is gifted at dismissing suspicious or concerning behavior. She reminds me of that saying for someone so smart, she can be so dumb.
While trying to find something to read I came across this gem. It’s quirky , sexy and mysterious. I love how the main character is a very strong willed woman . Nate , Drake and Georgio are sexy , funny and so different from each other this woman as it all
Nancie goes to do a bit of decorating and repairs at a kink hotel and finds more than she expects. The uniform she is required to wear is the least of the issues as she finds out the hotel is haunted. Then people start being killed off. Nancie starts investigating a little and it leads to danger and eventually solving both current and past murders. The relationships between Nancie and Drake, Nate and Georgio are being fleshed out with Nancie having flashblacks. The flashes of memory that Nancie has before forgetting them are very interesting and I look forward to finding out more in future books.
This was an entirely new author for me, and I had some doubts starting this book because the blurb seemed to suggest there was a little too much going on for one book. And while there is indeed a lot to this book, it also seems to magically work well together.
This book starts with Nancy Dru and her best-friend-with-benefits Georgio Vayne (yes, hilarious and well chosen names) who enter a haunted hotel, also used for the experience of all kinks, with the purpose of redecorating it. Starting this book I thought that was seriously too much: a kinky AND haunted hotel AND a redecorating project!? But somehow the combination of all those things makes it an interesting read, and something quite different than the usual RH books and series. I liked the fact that there are two storylines in this book: one wraps up nicely by the end of this book, while the other raises enough questions and interest to find out more in the second book of this series. All main characters have known eachother since they were young and there are flashbacks to their past, references to a twin sister and memories that seem to be linked to such a traumatic past that they are blocked. It had been a while since an author managed to tempt me to skip a few chapters to prematurely find out the ending of the book, but this time I was tempted...
This book has plenty of action and suspense, and I appreciate the fact that the book has a clear ending and doesn't end in a hell of a cliffhanger. Still, there is a lot to find out about Nancy, Georgio, Drake and Nate, and I don't think their relationship development will go easy. So I'm looking forward to find out more about these characters, and the adventures they will face.

'Afraid of No Ghost' is a fantastic spin on old characters of Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys. Nancy is one hot commodity in the small town. People already know who she is before meeting her and she coincidentally ends up attracting multiple men, two of whom she's had a past with. There's a whole lot of mystery surrounding her sister that has yet to be revealed with the exception that she may well be a psychopath. This story has ghosts, hot one-on-one moments with all of Nancy's suitors, and a secret underground crime ring. It has mystery, murder, and a whole lot of steamy romance in between. I can't wait for the next book.

I loved reading Nancy Drew as a kid, but my favorites were the crossovers with the Hardy boys. I always wanted her to end up with more than Ned and Miss Stapleton makes that dream a reality. Multiple points of view, MM, kinky scenes, secret passageways and great spins on the old story. There is great steam and a HFN ending that won't kill you waiting on the release of the next book. Cliffhangers are brutal, but the author is kind enough to wrap up some of the questions while still leaving you wanting more. I can't wait for the release of book 2!
This story features Nancy Dru, an interior designer who sees ghosts, Drake, the PI and Ghosthunter, Nate, her ex-boyfriend and contractor and Georgio, her best friend, carpenter and sometimes lover. I liked a lot of things about this story; it’s plenty creepy, I was completely blindsided by the whodunnit, and three hot guys, what’s not to like. There’s not a lot of bedroom action and the middle of the story drags a bit, which was a bit unsatisfying. Overall, a good bit with plenty of excitement at the end, and a solid set-up for the second book in the series.
I could only get through the first couple chapters. The story it's self was good, I was looking forward to where everything was headed but the small grammarel errors were just bothering the crap out of me. It was little things but so many that it was making it difficult to read. I had to re read quite a bit in just 3 chapters. Questioning what happened just a few pages ago, contradicting what I was currently reading. I'm sorry, I really wanted to like it. Maybe I'll go back and skim read it just to know what happens.
A spin on the Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys stories given a wicked twist by Rae Stapleton. Really engrossing with plenty of twists, steamy passages, mystery, suspense and magic. Being left with a cliffhanger is always frustrating but this one could have been so much worse. Can’t wait to read the next instalment.

This book was just as delicious as the others I have read from this author. There was plenty of suspense and drama. I love the action and the world building is on point. This light hearted paranormal cozy is absolutely wonderful.

I enjoyed the story but had trouble following some of it. The back story is clearly marked so that wasn’t the issue. Sometimes the flow just wasn’t smooth. Some editing errors but nothing that is too distracting. Overall I liked the concept and will be reading the next one too.
This paranormal RH romance is incredibly entertaining and has a great cast of characters. I enjoyed storyline and the distinct and unique characters. There is plenty of mystery, suspense, magic and action. Nancy, Georgio, Drake and Nate have an interesting story that I can' wait to read more of.
I will admit I bought this book for the cover alone. I was not disappointed. I loved this book soo much. I definitely had all the feels with this book. Ready for the next book so I can have some of my questions answered.
Good start to an interesting RH romance with mystery, intrigue, romance and magic. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
But I'm also completely confused. A lot happened in the book. There were flashbacks, which were okay - but there was also a lot of jumping around that made the story sort of choppy and hard to follow.
One minute I was reading something, and the next page was a new chapter, and seemingly days in advance.
There were things that were solved. The main crime, etc (after all, it is Nancie Dru and Drake Harty) - but so much that wasn't solved/sorted out/given info on.
Her sister was mentioned a bunch, but no other info. Her mother was mentioned - but no details. Some things happened in the past, but it left me more questions then answers.
I'm tempted to read the next book just to see if I can learn more about the background so this book makes more sense. Its almost like the paranormal aspects- ghosts, a random talking cat, rumoured witches, a rumoured Wolfman....were just randomly put in the story.
3/5. Main crime was solved. Spice. Some intriguing situations. -2 for confusion, choppy story, leaving me with more questions than answers. There were also some formatting and grammar issues that weren't too distracting but were there.
First off, I really want to start this by saying I quite enjoyed this book. However, it took me quite a while to get into it. It is a very slow burn RH book. So much so that at times I really didn’t think I’d plough through. BUT, in between those moments there were these real little gem of chapters which really clawed their way through to grab my attention and keep me enraptured in the story. By the time I got to 50% i was so invested in how this story played out that I didn’t care that it started off slow. The end result actually had me thinking how great a book it actually was and how I need to read the second book.
The only other downside to this book was the overuse of comma’s. I don’t know who edited it but there were comma’s in sentences that really didn’t need it. I will admit to being frustrated at seeing these and a sigh would automatically leap out whenever one was placed incorrectly. I think a little editing spruce up would polish this off nicely.
However, all in all, I will continue with this series. It really did grip me into finding out what else Nancie and her harem are up to.
Grammatical errors abound, but the story is great! 4 1/2 ⭐️
So I will start by acknowledging there are quite a few grammatical errors, but for me, I was easily able to overlook them, even as a Virgo, because I found that the story was intriguing enough for me to continue. Yes, there are a lot of different characters and they all seem to be connected somehow, but this is supposed to be a small town in New England, so can we expect anything less? I am pretty sure I know what the big twist is. I really enjoyed this story, and I appreciated the cheeky references and jokes. When Nancie called Georgie “Otho” I nearly spit my drink! 😆😂🤣 All in all, I enjoyed this story more than most. I am jumping right in to the next one.
Spoiler ahead:
I am pretty certain that Nancie has split personalities, and Ana is Nancie. I think due to her traumatic past she has split into two people, her Golden Child persona, as Ana, and her free spirit as Nancie.
So made it through 6 chapters. DNF at the start of Chapter 7 as suddenly time jumps forward a few days? Honestly I'm not entirely sure what day it is in Chapter 6 or how long she's been at the hotel. While the story sounds interesting and I enjoyed parts of it up through Chapter 7. I just had too hard of a time with pacing and figuring out what was going on and what the time frame was. I think it has promise, but could really use some tightening up with the pacing and clarifying what's happening when. May pick this up to try again another time.
Tldr: Ok. Minor grammar errors that are a little confusing but not that bad. Biggest issues is pacing and timing of events. 2.5/5 for me. DNF but may try again at a later date.
First, it was way too long, second the choppy writing and flashbacks ruined the potential for a great story, and third, there was way too many misplaced commas.
Unfortunately, everything just fell flat, from the storyline to alllllll the characters. There was no chemistry between any of the main characters, the spice was cringy, and every character was pretty much interchangeable and one dimensional. The story itself was one of those odd instances where so much was going on, but at the same time, nothing really happened. And it dragged on for 430 pages. I will not be continuing the series.
Ain’t Afraid of No Ghost by Rae Stapleton is a wonderful story that I have loved reading. This is book number one out of three in this wonderful start to a brand new series that I am so hooked on and can not wait to read the rest. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading romantic suspense, erotic and paranormal romance.

This was an interesting book. I enjoyed the characters and all the wonderful details. The author did such a great job with the wording that you were able to see the picture in your head.

Although this book is really jumpy with the timeline it is a fun read. I'm thinking the repressed memories are going to come forward at some point. The character build is impressive though. Why is she in Ana's shadow? Does Ana play a part? Did she sell Nancie? 🙀🤯
This has Supernatural meets Spooky Nancy Drew meets Ghostbuster vibes for days and I enjoyed it immensely! The why choose reverse harem elements were mischievous and delicious! I'll keep reading to find out more about this spooky crew!
DNF - quit at 5% Just didn’t pull me in enough to want to continue. Will delete this from my Kindle.
At my age (61), life is way too short & my time is too important to force myself to read a book I'm not enjoying, especially when there are so many other books out there waiting to be read.
I didn’t really know what to expect with this book but was pleasantly surprised. Still lots of mystery left and will probably read the next book as well and check out the authors other books.
