Close Encounters of the Mating Kind #1

The Alien Prince’s Omega

Rate this book
Sometimes, when you can’t find your mate, it’s because you haven’t looked far enough.

Alpha Prince Kagin longs to find his rupling, his mate. He searches his planet, Thulnara, to no avail, but he can feel him out there. As a last resort, he breaks the laws of his kind and finds Idda, a soothsayer. She sees his mate, but there is a problem: His mate is on Earth, a primitive planet once visited by his grandparents. Not that Kagin plans to let that stop him.

Veterinarian omega Hanson loves his job, the animals he cares for, and his community at the ocean’s shore. It’s everything he’s ever dreamed of until his dreams change. Night after night, Hanson falls asleep to visions of himself holding a beautiful baby—his baby. Only the baby is blue, and when he wakes up each morning, he mourns the loss.

Until one night, a woman appears and tells him not to worry, he is coming, and for the first time since he glimpsed the image of his child, he feels hope.

Hope he almost runs over with his car. Oops.

The Alien Prince’s Omega is the first book in the Close Encounters of the Mating Kind series by the popular co-writing duo of Lorelei M Hart and Colbie Dunbar. No. This wasn't good. Had potential, definitely did, but it was written so amateurish that it was all for nothing, might as well not happen at all.

🔵 Omegaverse on Earth and Thulnara, a planet from distant galaxy
🟣 Alpha alien/ omega human
🟡 Fated mates
🟢 Royalty
🔵 Not detailed, quite superficial, no world building, bad dialogues, no depth
🟣 Mpreg
🌶️ Some sex and quite innovative; both vers

The story is about Kargin, the Thulnarian prince who has to find his fated mate before his 30th birthday when he'll become a king.
He goes to a clairvoyant and they show him his fated mate is on Earth, where Kargin then travels.

"The Thulnarans I had lain with were always more than satisfied with my performance and I with theirs, the cries from our all- night sessions ringing through the palace until Second Father would send a message telling us to be quiet."

Right. Important information right there.

Hanson is a vet and an Omega on Earth who finds Kargin on the street and takes him home, no questions asked. He then just keeps hanging out with him, inviting him into his place, giving him clothes and ogling him like a teenager.

"Do you live near here?" he asked.
"In another galaxy."
"Is that what the kids say these days?"

🤦😄

Their interactions are silly and ridiculous and the whole love story is badly and superficially portrayed, it's written in a way you can't really take it seriously.

Their sex life is exploratory and quite satisfying, but the way they go about it is, again, just ridiculous.

“Kagin, what’s happening?” he shrieked as I surged into him. “Oh, oh, double penetration!”

And Hanson topping for the first time ever

"“It’s… I never thought… my first time.”
“Mine too,” I choked out. First time with a human."

Ooohh, so first time with a human, not first time in general - but he didn't tell Hanson that!
This prince guy is a real character, honestly, he's either a himbo or he just doesn't get it. 😄

"Humans would not appreciate me walking naked on the street. And besides, after seeing my cock, they might feel bad that theirs was so small. Getting dressed was the right thing to do."

Oh, god. 🙄

When they somehow finally communicate to each other that they're fated and Hanson gets pregnant, they keep going back and forth from Earth to Thulnara, where Hanson eventually gives birth.

“Look dearest, fries, burritos, salad with the goat cheese you love, and all kinds of sauces, including ketchup. And there are chicken wings too.”

Yeah, look, dearest, you're on another more advanced planet and never mind their food and nutritious funky grass and other amazing things you could be trying - here's a burrito!!!

I'm quite lost for words really, because it feels like the burritos were shoved in there with all the darlings and dearests and it just didn't work. It was a quick, superficial insta-story that gave me absolutely nothing. I'd appreciate at least a little more world building, if nothing else.

so much happening in the span of such a short time, Could've been laid out better because the character seems to lack emotions and depth and I needed that for me to connect with the mcs.

Also I'm having a hard time imagining the sex position I was in haywire.

An intriguing start to the series!

Prince Kagin and Hanson had a strong connection. However, their interactions always felt rushed. This was a fast paced story, a little too fast, for my taste.

The world building could have been better.

Huh?

So I liked that the authors didn’t try to bog everything down in techno-babble to try and explain the advanced technology, but maybe they should have tried. We have a society that is so advanced that they can manipulate matter (possibly with their minds alone), so they don’t understand the concept of doors. They have some kind of telekinetic power over temperature around them, and their touch provides instant translation, but only while in direct physical contact. And none of this seems to require any use of what we would consider to be technology.

Then, to top the whole WTF experience, why was this ending ok? Hanson was willing to talk through their family’s needs and plans, but Kagin unilaterally decides that he doesn’t need to talk to his mate to make a decision that will impact their lives, and the life of their son. If I were Hanson, I’d be super pissed off about that and not think it was I any way romantic.

The Alien Prince's Omega is Book 1 in the Close Encounters of the Mating Kind series. Kagin is an alpha prince on his planet and to avoid having an arranged marriage he must find his rupling. Hanson, a human omega, is a veterinarian. Their worlds are about to collide as fate brings them together. I do like the idea of finding love anywhere and that includes on other planets. I really enjoyed this story though their mating was a bit different and the pregnancy itself was extremely short. All in all a good read with enjoyable characters and I look forward to the next book.

We have aliens, but they can look like humans, and we have an omegaverse Earth in this cute romance. This is a no angst story. Any difficulties are quickly and easily overcome. It was cute and sweet, but I didn’t feel like I knew the characters or the alien world all that well. For a shorter read, it was entertaining.

Kagin is the crown prince of Thulnara And it is a law that they need to be mated by the age of 30, Kagin is almost the age that he needs to be to have his mate, if he hasn’t found his own mate by that age then one is chosen for him by his First Father. He knows that he can find out who is chosen mate is by going to see a forbidden soothsayer and once he is shown where his mate is, he will go and retrieve him. His fated mate is on earth, when he meets Hanson, who is a vet on earth, and what follows is hilarious, the barrier of miscommunication which had me laughing. I found I couldn’t put it down until I finished the book. I would highly recommend this book to anybody who enjoys this type of novel.

I was given an advanced copy of this book to read and review with my honest and fair opinion

The Alien Prince’s Omega by Lorelei M. Hart and Colbie Dunbar is the first book in the Close Encounters of the Mating Kind series.  Sweet, heated, and fun... I laughed and smiled my way through this awesome alien-human love story.  I am so excited to get more books in this universe and meet more characters I can adore.

Not their best

Generally, I will devour anything these ladies write, but this one is just missing something, I think, maybe. I got confused by things sometimes, because it felt unclear sometimes.

I enjoyed this book so much I barely know where to begin. The authors have a fantastic talent for worldbuilding and characterization and are super-engaging storytellers. The story itself is hot, sweet, and laced with just the right touches of whimsy and humor in just the right places. I fell in love with gentle Hansen and delightfully bold Kagin from the first page. Recommended, and I'll be reading more in this series and from these authors.

It was a neat little story.
However i have the feeling i already read it somewhere else.
I also have to say its very... compressed. Very straight forward in acceptance and then going to an happy end just like that.
I liked it no doubt yet i have to say it was... to short, to fast and to "yay i accept then mate then have a child within 2 weeks"..

Too quick. Everything happened in bursts, so you don't have time to grow with the characters [if there was any growth to begin with...]
Odd/minor spicy scenes [only 2 in the book]
I cannot get over the fact that the cover has him green, but in the book he's blue?
No conflict at all.

I don't think I even got through 30% before abandoning. The writing style is very much not for me and seemed very juvenile. As in, could have been written by am adolescent. Super awkward dialogue and confusing descriptions that seemed like they were trying too hard to be otherworldly.

Alpha Prince Kagin is getting desperate. He has been looking for his omega mate, his rupling for years now but hasn't found him. His First and Second Fathers have given him until his 30th birthday to find his rupling. If he hasn't found him by then, they will pick his mate for him. Kagin will be turning 30 soon and really wants to find his rupling. He decides to visit a soothsayer even though it is against the rules. The soothsayer tells Kagin that his mate is on a primitive planet called Earth. Prince Kagin isn't sure if the soothsayer is telling the truth but is desperate enough to try. His grandfathers visited Earth several years ago and left notes about life on Earth. They mostly gathered their knowledge from shows broadcasted through the air. Prince Kagin feels ready to go to Earth. Upon his arrival, he finds his rupling right away so the soothsayer was right. The problem is his rupling seems to be ignoring him.

Hanson is a human omega and a vet living on Earth. He loves his life and his job but there is something missing. For the past month he has been having great dreams of him holding his child and nursing him. However the child has blue skin. Hanson really wishes for that child and a strange voice in his dream tells him "he is coming" One day Hanson is on an emergency call outside the flea market and he is overcome with a strange feeling. Everyone is expecting him to go home but Hanson just wants to stay there. He does drive away but returns before he gets home. He runs into a total stranger who calls him mate. Hanson is confused by Kagin. Kagin is acting strange like everything is brand new to him. Hanson thinks Kagin is a shifter but he keeps denying it. What will Hanson do when he learns that Kagin is an alien prince?

This was a cute fast read about alien prince Kagin who learns his fated mate is on Earth and goes there to meet him. Hanson is a a non-shifter human omega living on Earth who works as a vet. He's generally a happy guy and loves his job. But lately he's been having very real-feeling dreams about a blue baby- one he knows is and should be his and loves completely- only to wake up broken-hearted each morning. The two meet- immediately drawn to each other and their romance grows from there.

My favorite part is that this book has a really fun world- Kagin's planet has two mated suns red and blue, two mated moons black and silver, edible grasses that taste like different foods, and vines that can talk. His species can also regulate the temperature in their hands and feet to extremely hot or cold, and can camouflage their appearance by touching a place behind their ears. Earth humans are either alpha or omega, and there are also shifters, though they keep themselves hidden from humans. It was really fun see the new alien aspects, as well as see the differences in the people on Earth.

Kagin and Hanson are cute together. There is inst-lust/insta-love and things move at a very fast pace between them. I got a little confused at times when occasionally I would mix up who's who based on their behavior, and I would sometimes wonder what is because an alien is trying to understand human culture (some funny moments there) and what might just be immaturity. No villains or major obstacles. Has mpreg and HEA. A cute whimsical read. 4 stars.

In Love With an Alien Prince . . .

Alpha Prince Kagin is searching for his mate, his rupling. He knows he is not on the planet Thulnara. He only has until his 30th birthday to find his mate or his father and the Council of Elders would pick someone. So Kagin went to see Idda, a soothsayer. She tells him his mate is on Earth.

Veterinarian Omega Hanson loves working with animals. Every night lately he dreams of holding a beautiful baby, his own. The baby is blue, and he hates waking and leaving his child. But a woman came to his dream to tell him not to worry, “he” is coming, and Hanson feels hope. He also realizes the woman is real.

Responding to a call about a dog in the street that may be hurt, Hanson felt strange, as if he had to stay there and wait for something. The owners picked up their dog who was okay and Hanson drove off, then turned a corner to go back where he knew he had to be. A man was in the road and he swerved to miss him. He invited the stranger home with him. Hanson assumed this strange man was a shifter. As he looked at him, his skin had the bluish hue from his dreams. Is this the fate that he has been waiting for?

This was a cute story, sometimes silly yet still keeping the reader’s affection. There is so much more to this story line, so grab your copy and see if Hanson is ready to find out he is falling in love with an alien who, under the glamor, is blue, just like the child in his dreams!

If you need a good laugh, a very imaginative claiming, and the best of two worlds - this book has it all.

Prince Kagin will soon be thirty and must be mated as he is in line for the throne. Not wanting to be tied forever to someone he does not love, he wishes to find his other half. His fated. He knows his 'rupling', is out there... somewhere. Determined to find him, he breaks all the rules, only to find out his mate is on Earth. In his quest to blend in and make his search easier, Kagin indulges in research for this primitive planet.
That is where the fun begins.
"Cock wings" mistaken for "chicken wings." Not to be confused with "cock rings," which Kagin had no clue about.

Omega Hanson is a veterinarian. Prefers animals over people and loves his life in general. Suddenly, he begins to dream of a blue baby. Awakening each day to empty arms, he knows it is unhealthy to look forward to a dream that may never come true. Until a woman appears to him. He coming. But who?
Well, he literally and figuratively almost runs over his mate. Hanson invites him back to his home. Feeling safe despite not knowing much about the stranger.

The pull is immense between them. There are a few obstacles along the way. Nothing stops them from completing their destined bond.

A mating, a pregnancy and a happily ever after, that one can only dream of.

Can't wait to see how this co-author duo, manages to outdo themselves.

**I received this ARC for my honest feedback.**

Gotta love the alien extras!

Okay, first I was sad reading the first two pages. For those that read the prequel you understand my sadness there. Now, Kagin is more than ready for his rupling because who wants a bunch of elders to pick their mate?! He does the sneaky thing passed down from his great grandfather's time and finds Idda who lets him know his mate is on earth. While on Earth, Hanson has been treating his animal patients and dreaming of a baby who happens to be blue. He has no idea why his baby is this color but he does know he loves him and wants him now. When these two meet it gets interesting because Kagin only knows what his grandfathers wrote about during their mission to earth. Hanson believes, after a little convincing, that Kagin is an alien and tries to help him understand this new world. Then there is the loving time that throws Hanson for a loop the first time it happens because who knew bodies could do that?! The love these two show is extra sweet, including the grass Kagin gives to Hanson. I can't wait to read the next book and find out how little brother is going to handle his new role in Thulnara.

Two mates galaxies apart

This is a hard review for me I normally really enjoy Lorelei M. Hart one of the authors of this book but it needed something I'm clueless as to what. The world building wasn't really there at times it felt rushed the alien world didn't feel real to me when reading it the technology aspect was not really explained and the sex scenes sounded uncomfortable I had a hard time visualizing it. The romance was there if a little fast you know that Kigan the Alien introduced Hanson to his family but never did it explain Hanson introducing Kigan to his family and how did they explain the whole blue tinted skin thing I also just a personal thing why did Kigan make his decision at the end that way if there so advanced why couldn't Hanson just learn about being a vet on his world threw advanced technology. So im giving this book 4 stars its more a 3.4 stars it was cute and funny at times it just felt too rushed and the love scene's were to awkward to me if that along with more detail of the Alien world with its advanced tech was explained maybe I would have enjoyed this book more.

Dreams can come true, just have a lot of faith! Alpha Prince Kagin is ready to settle down with his rupling/mate. He wants him so badly, it's as if he can feel him. His time is running out, because he has a deadline to find his mate by his 30th birthday, or his Dad will find one for him. So, no pressure! He finally decided to break the law and seek spiritual help to find his true mate. What does the soothsayer tell him? Hansen, is a veterarinarian, happy on earth. But what made him happier, was the dream he had every night of holding his perfect, blue baby. He realized that as happy as he is as a man, he is happiest holding his blue babe. How will Kagin convince his Fathers to let him go to earth to retrieve his rupling? How will he get to earth? What will Kagin think of plain old earth? Will Hansen accept Kagin? Will Hansen have to adjust to Thulnara? What will the King say? Interesting decision making processes. Delicious story. Lotsa funny, out of towner new to the country vibes. Well done! Kagin comes to Earth to find his future mate.
When his father King Savvair tells Kagin that if he does not find his mate by his thirtieth year he will have a mate chosen for him he visits a soothsayer who tells him his mate lives on the Planet Earth and he knows he must go to him. Hanson had become a vet which his grandfather had dreamed of being but could not and enjoyed loving after animals. He was aware of there being shifters around but kept it to himself as some groups did not like humans knowing about them. As he turn his vehicle around after a call out a figure appears in front of him and he realizes that the figure is not human.

Kagin and Hanson story was a sweet and funny read. I loved the way they interact with each other, how they overcome their differences and how accepting they are with their nature.
I loved their courtship and how their relationship blooms and progress during the journey, how well incorporated the alien culture is into the story, their rituals, beliefs and mattings. I loved the alien world with all it's differences and acceptances when one of their own find it's happiness.
Kagin and Hanson are so sweet and endearing, Hanson finally has his most wanted family and Kagin finds his happiness with his rupling.
I really loved the story and I'm looking forward to see what happens next.

PRESENT DAY EARTH COULD LEARN A LESSON FROM THIS STORY

I received this book for free and am giving my honest and voluntary review.

Prince Kagin of Thulnara needs to be married by his thirtieth birthday to his mate or one will be chosen for him. Hanson is a human who has dreamed of a blue baby and his wants for it are overwhelming. They meet and the societal differences between Earth and Thulnara are so vast, even with some information from Earth’s past, had this reader laughing aloud. I loved the sacrifices Kagin and Hanson were willing to make for each other. The acceptance between the two species is much better than the acceptance of others on this planet.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. It was a new take on this type of story and I enjoyed reading it. Prince Kagin's time to mate is near and he wants his fated mate. He goes to a soothsayer and she directs him to Earth. Hanson has been dreaming of his baby but is soothed when an old woman comes to his dream to say he's on his way. Kagin has fun adjusting to Earth but does with the help of Hanson. They have a very quick pregnancy. I liked how Kagin gives up the crown to be with Hanson on Earth so Hanson can be happy. visiting his family and home planet is no hardship in this story.

I really enjoyed this no angst love story between an alien prince (from the planet Thulnara) and a human from Earth. Prince Kagin has been seeking his mate, but when he fails to find him, he consults a soothsayer who tells him his mate is on the primitive planet Earth. What follows is Kagin's journey to Earth to find his mate. The trip includes a quick connection between the mates, humorous situations caused by differing social norms, meeting the parents, and of course, a baby who happens to be blue. Light-hearted and entertaining tale.

3.5 boost to 4
This was a really cute, weird and fast paced read. Kagin and Hanson are really sweet together, while it's rather insta love it's fitting to the usual soulmate aspect.

Also intrigued by the world of Thulnarra, the crossover with shifters on earth and alpha/omega how all goes together. There was a lot of potential here for more to be explored and developed that would have been amazing, but it's a short read so sadly just glimpses of certain things.

The intimate scenes were certainly interesting... the anatomy of the aliens and well it's unique. Oh and the length of the pregnancy, how that went about was certainly new too.

I did adored the confusion throughout from Kagin with the differences between their communication and language. The struggle with like slang, sarcasm and such made for a lot of humour had me smiling. Also his just not realising, while Hanson blushes just so much fun.

Overall an entertaining read with a happy ending 💛

I was actually happy to find a book about "friendly" aliens, since they are really rare. I'm a huge fan of stories like Avatar and learning about fascinating other planets and species. That's so cool. But this one was very rushed and very weird. As if it's not enough that there are aliens out there, no there are also animal shifters on earth - so there are basically two completely different new universes and the story can't deal with them both, let alone one of them. There's very poor world-building, everything feels awkward and rushed. Sorry, but this book just wasn't very good...

cute fun

This one is still pretty cute and (partially) set in the same world as the Love/Hate series. I was surprised by the juvenile introductions to the alien world, something these authors are not known to do, but after that, the story flows fine. The alien-from-another-world draw is really all it has going for it, even the momentary blip with the wannabe fiance was hardly worth the print. Disappointing overall but still cute for what it is. Minus the sex scenes, it's more a preteen story, imo

This book is more enjoyable and more easily understood if you read "Finding His Future" from the "Special Delivery : Summer" anthology. I enjoyed this book immensely! It had all the elements of sci-fi/romance/fated mates/mpreg and humor I enjoy most, and to top it off there are super steamy and inventive intimate moments you don't want to miss. Wish I could give it more than 5 stars and can't wait to read the second book in this fantastic new series!
