Fantasy based stories aren’t usually my forte, especially ones that are part of series which are still unwritten/ released - BUT BOY! Am I sure glad I took a chance on this book!

Ardin is an amazing storyteller! Though this is her debut novel, she uses good descriptions of actions taking place, good word choices, and the story flows wonderfully. I can envision the facial reactions of each character as described.

At the beginning, I will admit, I was a bit lost with the amount of characters that were quickly introduced. I found it hard to understand who was talking but that soon passed. I came to understand that it was necessary for the storyline to progress as the characters have different storylines taking place at the same time, eventually leading to one that comes together.

I loved the fact that the back stories of most characters were hidden and revealed along the way as the story progressed. Without giving too much away, I adored slowly finding out about what happened to Roland and his family, and also the history with him and Dianna.
Roland is an interesting character; we get sneak peaks into his past as it unravels. I would say he is the main character and discovering the hidden truths with him is something I hope to continue uncovering as the series progresses.
As readers, we were given just enough information to have us hooked and wanting more. I have many questions which I hope I get answers to in books 2 and…3?

There are many cute/ adorable moments between certain characters that I LOVED reading about. Certain scenes stuck out to me and will stick with me for time to come.
I am heavily invested in ALL of these characters (minus Peter, solely because he annoys me). Each page I turned, and each chapter I finished had me begging for more!

**Ardin, if this series gets dropped, I will be outraged!**

I'm eager to know what happens next for the Crispin's and Nicholas. I was surprised that I did not fully hate the bad guys because each character is driven by different motives and it makes you understand what makes them do horrible things, like when the one character Vincent is In the story I liked Rose the best because she is very thoughtful and sees people for who they are. She is nice to Dianna when she meets her even though she knows that Dianna and her uncle used to be in love. She chooses to be kind when others are not. She's willing to put herself at risk of getting sick again because others are so mean to Nicholas. She just wants him to get well and when she finds out he is all alone in the world wants her uncle to adopt him. I imagine her becoming a writer or a teacher one day. I'm adding her to my list of comfort characters. I also liked how Roland and Dianna forget that they are mad at each other. I like stories with second chance romances and grump x cinnamon roll and this book had both. I do want to know some of the words the vermin characters were saying because it was cool that they speak their own language. I imagined Nicholas as a vampire like from the anime Vampire Knights because he also has long hair like the character Kaname and I was watching that anime while reading this book. Even though I want Roland to succeed with his research

I was intrigued by this book because of the supernatural elements to it. It has to do with Vermin which are essentially like werewolves and I can’t resist a good werewolf story. It was following along with a young girl and her relationship (more like a friendship as they are in their early teens) with the boy that they found almost dead on the side of the road. Her father decides to study the boy as they nurse him back to health in their home.

There wasn’t a lot that happened in the book. It mainly took place at their home where they tended to this boy and that was about it. I would have liked to see a bit more in terms of things happening to progress the plot or secrets being revealed or something to keep me reading more.

The book was pretty slow paced so if you are looking for a fast paced action then this won’t be for you. It sets up a lot for further development in the books to come in the series. I’m more of a fast paced plot person so it did drag for me at times and I think the characters did seem very similar but I would continue on with the series to learn more about the Vermin lore and what is in store for them.

This story is definitely for a younger audience. I could see myself liking this at another age. Definitely has potential but just not for me.

I got this book through the goodreads giveaways. First I was floored by the kind package I received, thank you for all the goodies! Now its been a few years since I last won a giveaway, is it common now for giveaways to include a bunch of goodies?!?

So the book. First I was thrilled to receive the book so promptly, sadly it arrived during a bit of personal turmoil and I kept starting and stopping, so I've reread the first few chapters quite a few times. That all said, I really quite enjoyed my self. In my opinion the book falls around the fantasy young adult romance genre with a caveat of not actually being a romance. Do not get me wrong there are intense relationships but its not a romance. Ok so that's my only "complaint" really because the rest of the book is fabulous.

I loved the character development that takes place and how the plot drives the world building. It was very well written and easy to read, and that's with my very mild dyslexia. I really hope we'll at least get a second book as this is not a stand alone novel, there are a ton of unanswered questions and more that need to be explained and explored. I will say for a personal stand point I do find cliffer's extremely frustrating and would not have picked up this book until after the next one is confirmed. Oh my last comment is to be aware that this is a slow burn, not a lot happens in terms greater conflict, there a hint here and there of a bigger, more complex world but its not really a critical part of the plot ...yet. The story mainly takes place in a small town with little actually happening outside the main families home. I do not write this as a complaint just a fact because it does not limit the story at all. I would definitely recommend this book to those looking for something more slipped under foot then bonked over the head, sorry if that doesn't make sense.
