Catherinelle

Rate this book
Catherinelle is a mafia/ brother’s best friend/ forbidden romance, set in New York's golden era, the '90's! It's the second book in the Malavita series ( a stand-alone series) and follows the story of Catherinelle Nucci - a mafia princess - and Hugo Mustafa, also called the Albanian Monster, a mafia underboss.

Blurb:

For them, he was the bruiser, the assassin, the last thing you see before the bullet hits your head. He was the Albanian Monster.
For me, he's Hugo, my brother's best friend, and my annoying bodyguard. For me, he is Famiglia.
I knew I needed protection. I didn't grow up as a mafia princess in the most powerful crime family in New York without learning that there's always a gun barrel lurking in the shadows ready to aim for my head, but why did it have to be him?
Temptation, desire, and danger were pushing us together, but if my brother would find out that I was having an affair with his most trusted general, blood would be spilled and it wouldn't be mine.
We were walking a fine line, but I was in too deep. I was the girl who fell in love with a Monster.

I never chose to be a writer... Writing chose me. In Romania, we have a popular tradition for when a child's hair it's cut for the first time. Friends and family gather to celebrate the future of the child and the little one is given a tray full of objects. Now, on this tray, you can place anything from money, car keys to food, and pets. Every object is a symbol and it's said that the first three things the child would pick will determine his or her path in life.

My loves, I picked red lipstick, a pencil, and a glass full of whiskey...I picked the romance writer's starting pack.

I was fortunate enough to put my work out into the world, become an author, and share this incredible and uplifting journey with each and every one of you.

I had a hard time with the heroine. She was 17 y.o. but her behaviour wasn’t suitable to her age. Her actions would better fit to a 20+ girl.
Also, there were plenty of descriptions and inner thoughts that bored me. Dnf @ 37%.

This one was pretty fast pace also im saying this right here.. because idk if its a trigger for anyone this book does have a Miscarriage!!!! So be warned!!!

After reading Muse I wanted to read Cats story I was still on the edge about it because of her guy was Hugo and he was well a manwhore from what we saw in book 1. But I still wanted to read it.

Catherinelle or aka Cat is the princess of the family she gets what she wants, she can be a brat sometimes but I don't blame her with the family she has they are overprotective and always think she's young and to innocent but she's strong and knows what she wants and she has been wanting Hugo but she can't he's a cold jerk and her brothers best friend and her new bodyguard. The tension and banter between the two is very hot and cold they know how to push eachothers buttons.
And once they take that step boy things heat up.. until Hugo does some mean jerk stuff after their first night.. but Cat she wasn't forgiving she did her best to ignore him, made sure he knows he messed up even tossed few lines about his manwhore ways. There was alot of push away from H because of Cats brother he felt he was betraying him.. it got annoying few times because it was the same thing everytime they would get close and he would push. Wish Cat would have made him work for it more.. she was the one doing the work.. 😕

Then shit hit the fan.. and boy it hit I cried this is the 2nd time Diane got me in tears and.. man.. I did feel like the book ended in a HFN for the couple maybe the author shall do a bonus Epilogue.

Angst, ow (the past woman he slept with) not really cheating (once they started dating) Slight secondary character, drama,Sexy times, virgin gal and sorta manwhore (he has 3some with 2 girls in chap 3 this is before they have a relationship)

Recommend-maybe

Diane Portman Ray wrote a beautiful, sexy, forbidden love story that was so delicious and satisfying. It delivers the big O and Catherinelle and Hugo ate one another up. I love how naughty Catherinelle was with Hugo, she knew his hunger and she pushed him for more. Hugo had his eyes on her too for a while, and there was only so much this Albanian Monster was going to take. He has been tested enough, and when he whips it out, I made the sign of the cross!! Because DAMN ty Hugo! 🍆🙏🏻🥵

Catherinelle is seriously one of my favorite female characters. She is protective, vulnerable, and has style. She is a boss babe with a beautiful wise soul. “A Nucci always gets what it wants.” Yes, she is young, but gosh she knew what she wanted and took.

Hugo, is a sexy beast! He frustrated me and then, yea, he would whip it out 🥵😂He likes to play, and I was putty. I wanted to hug him, because he was made to feel less, and didn’t realize he was more and meant so much more to Catherinelle and the Nucci Family. He is rough, and basically was brought up to be a machine and killer. Most of all his heart beats for her and those moments make it so damn sweet!

Gosh seeing Muse and Gino again! I miss them so much. I love all of these characters and I want the next story, but ahah I also want to hang on to all of them. Listen you have to read this, you have to read and experience their crazy, beautiful, love. And watch it crumble, I wasn’t upset I think it needed to happen, and the reactions I enjoyed. But don’t worry, it has a way of putting the pieces together, healing, and leaving us wanting more.

Gotta hand it to Diane, she sure knows how to write an addictive story. I love the bodyguard and forbidden romance tropes, so this book got me instantly hooked. A sassy, kindhearted mafia princess and a grumpy, sexy, morally grey mafia underboss... match made in heaven. I loved how these two lived to push each other's buttons. They had great banter, and I felt the intense chemistry between Catherinelle and Hugo in all their interactions. This intense attraction between them was totally unplanned (well from Hugo's part at least :)), because Catherinell was constantly trying to get his attention) and, sometimes, rather unwelcome, but that didn't make it any less real. I also enjoyed the setting of this story. The action takes place in New York in the 90s and definitely complements the mafia romance aesthetic. Definitely looking forward to reading more from the author!

Omfg how much I LOVED this book! Also, how beautiful is her name?? So Catherinelle is a 17 year old mafia princess in her senior year of high school. Hugo is a completely over the top, super possessive, extra grumpy, tattooed Albanian man 13 years older than her. He is Cat’s bodyguard and her brother Gino’s second in command. (Gino is the mafia boss and has his own book).

Everything about Cat and Hugo’s relationship is forbidden but they just cannot stay away from each other. This pull between them is addicting. I couldn’t put my kindle down and walked around the house bumping into furniture while reading. It’s one of my favorite reads this year and definitely the best age gap of 2021. Let’s not forget to mention the sexual tension in this one, oh lord it was burning my kindle and the smutty scenes are 🏆 worthy. One thing I love about Dianes’s writing is her attention to details. The plot is set in the 90s and the way she incorporated all the historically appropriate references into the story made it so much more realistic. I read this book three weeks ago and all I want to do while writing this review is go back and reread.

◼️Trope:
✔️Mafia
✔️Brother's best friend
✔️ Age-gap forbidden romance

Catherinelle Nucci is a mafia princess. She is so pure, adorable, sassy, kind-hearted and determined. Hugo Mustafa is a mafia underboss, Gino Nucci's best friend and Cat's new bodyguard! He is ruthless, strong, grumpy, lost soul, morally grey character. He takes his job very seriously. He isn’t supposed to attracted to his Don's sister! So what did go wrong?

"With every passing minute it became more and more clear that if my soul was the price to remain in his arms, I was ready to pay up without a second thought. He was stronger than heroine, stronger than crack. He was the Albanian Monster and I was the princess that fell slave to him."

I adore Diane's writing style, the way she writes Catherinelle is absouletely fabulous and truly a page turner. Their chemistry, banter, love, adoration made my heart burst. I loved Hugo's growth so much. The way he controlled his emotions and did his duty kept me on my toes! When he started to express his feelings, his possessiveness, his caring side, little gestures, gifts- omg!!
I loved every bit of it. I really need more of them!

𝐆𝐔𝐘𝐒!!! If you love brother's best friend/best friend's sister, 𝐏𝐈𝐂𝐊 𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐒 𝐎𝐍𝐄 𝐔𝐏!! Diane totally got me at the edge of my seat. I 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥𝘯'𝘵 𝘱𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘰𝘰𝘬 𝘥𝘰𝘸𝘯 𝘢𝘵 𝘢𝘭𝘭!!! I can't get enough of Hugo and Cat!!⁣

Cat, 𝘔𝘢𝘧𝘪𝘢 𝘗𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘴, have had a crush on Hugo, 𝘈𝘭𝘣𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘢𝘯 𝘔𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳, ever since she was a girl, but of course, nothing happened. Gino and Muse went on a mini vacation so Gino had Hugo watch over Cat. 😏 Cat made so many moves on Hugo. She can totally come off as too desperate, but I love how she'll do anything to get what she wants. Hugo got me 𝘱𝘶𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘺 𝘩𝘢𝘪𝘳. Lol 𝐁𝐔𝐓 𝐇𝐄 𝐇𝐀𝐒 𝐌𝐘 𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐑𝐓!!! He was sooo 𝘴𝘵𝘶𝘣𝘣𝘰𝘳𝘯. I was like....just give in already Hugo. Lol Cat wanted to give up her v-card so how would Hugo survived? 😏 ⁣

Well, I 𝐭𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐝 this mafia series, 𝘔𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘵𝘢. Each book can be read as a standalone. It's set in the 90s in New York.⁣

Diane delivered a beautiful, sexy love story, and I throughly enjoyed every minute of it. She improves with every single book she writes and I’m so happy with it!

Cat’s every bit the rebellious firecracker who wants to enjoy her years of freedom. Hugo is her bodyguard and her brother’s best friend. When I tell you the chemistry between them was everything.

However, I did wish there could have been more angst with the tropes, and I expected a little more layers from Hugo’s personality and Cat’s.

Where are my dark romance lovers friends? This book is definitely for you and a must read if you want to cross your boundaries and fall in love with a bodyguard romance story.
Catherinelle is not your usual heroine and that’s what I’ve loved most about her. If she wants something, just goes for it no matter what obstacles she can find on her way.
It was nice to see some of the previous book’s characters and I’m looking forward to see where Diane is taking me with this world set in the 90’s where everything was so different from today.

Catherinelle is an age gap, forbidden dark mafia romance and book #2 in the Malavita series. Although each book is a standalone, I highly recommend reading book #1 "Muse" first, it will enhance your reading experience. The heroine, Catherinelle is a mafia princess and Hugo is a "mafia underboss". Hugo is also Catherinelle's bodyguard, he was assigned by Gino (Catherinelle's brother) to protect her. I really enjoyed how Diane Portman-Ray began this book! I loved how she incorporated the Albanian folk tale, it was most certainly interesting to read! Catherinelle and Hugo have an interesting relationship; Cat loves to push Hugo's buttons, simply because she wants to break down his harsh and emotionless exterior. Unawarely, she's successfully executing her plan. Because of the lifestyle he has been living for so long, (being a part of the Famiglia,) Hugo can easily conceal his emotions. Yet, Catherinelle is able to get under his skin. A strong willed mafia princess who was able to cage the beast. A forbidden love that would cause a rift within the Famiglia.

Notoriously well known in the criminal world Hugo AKA "The Albanian Monster" was groomed to be a weapon, wielded when needed; a person to make problems disappear. In his lifetime, Hugo has done some pretty gruesome stuff; he can handle anything that is thrown his way. But he does a have blind sight, a weakness that makes him lose all of his control and rationality, Catherinelle. Forbidden fruit never tasted so sweet. Hugo got one taste of Catherinelle and he can't simple get enough. Despite knowing how wrong it is to even consider let alone be with Hugo, Cat wants him.

As a mafia princess, Catherinelle has a heavy weight on her shoulders. She's aware of what is expected from her, carrying on the family tradition and legacy.  She's stubborn and strong willed, hence she was raised amongst some of the most ruthless men of New York. After all, she's a Nucci and "a Nucci always gets what it wants". And she most certainly pushed Hugo over the edge!! She was relentless, the more Hugo denied or pushed Cat away she came back with full force. Their relationship dynamics was definitely explosive, heated, intense and very, very steamy. I loved how Cat managed to unravel Hugo; how she managed to break down his defenses. I was so happy to see Muse and Gino being featured in this book! But the last few chapters though! The intensity turn of events really hit the roof!! Overall, I loved reading this book!!

4.5 ★ - The Princess & The Albanian Monster

I loved Cat and Hugo's dynamic in Muse so I have been anxiously waiting for this book and I was not disappointed. Age gap and forbidden romance are my all time favorite tropes so it's no wonder I loved this one. I mean when we have a really steamy book where the heroine is confident enough to try and seduce her older bodyguard a.k.a her brother's best friend...What's not to love?!

I love the contrast we have between Catherinelle and Hugo. She is the spoiled mafia princess, that's soft, sassy and feminine and he is a rugged, ruthless and frustrating underboss, who is really serious and closed off. They brought the best and worst in each other and I lived for their banter. They have so much chemistry, Hugo really did try to resist her but I will tell you he didn't last long lol.

This book isn't overly angsty, it was way lighter than Muse and I think that's perfect for this couple. I laughed many times and kept smiling for most of it. I really love Diane's writing and I can't wait to read the next book, Roman is an enigma to me.

Bloody hell, this is just so fucking good!

This was one of my most anticipated reads of Sep 2021 because I fell in love with Catherinelle in Muse and I'm so glad I read this one.

Catherinelle is a mafia princess. She is so adorable, determined, kind-hearted and sassy. Hugo is her bodyguard and her brother's best friend. He is ruthless, grumpy and strong willed. He also happens to take his job very seriously which makes Cat frustratingly impatient LOL.

Hugo has every intention to stay away from Cat and has no idea how much determined Cat is to get what she wants. I love this girl LMAO she was totally like male version of Gino. Their were fire together and their banter literally was so hilarious. My heart bleed for how Hugo was bought up. And despite everything the man has a soft heart for Cat. These two are so precious. And my Gino and Muse heart.. ekk! I love them lol.

Literally guys if you love a good brother's bestfriend/ steamy mafia/ forbidden age-gap romance. Then go for this! Dianne is delivering everything in one.

3.75-4 STARS!!!

What an enjoyable read! I didn't read the first one, managed to understand the whole gist of the story. The writing, the pace of the story and the plot was great. While I did like both MCs, I feel like they fought too much. I get the jealousy from Cat's POV, I found Hugo's a bit detrimental. Hugo was intense. Even I was intimidated by the way he was described in the book, lol! Other than the fights between the two, I didn't like the fact that Cat kept mentioning the threesomes Hugo had MULTIPLE TIMES. I feel like once was enough. There was just too much jealousy and a lack of trust between the two. I loved that it was set in the 90's! So different to any other mafia books I've read. I really wish we got an epilogue. For the life of me, I still do not understand the silver balls on Hugo’s parts, lol.

Alright you have to read this book it was so gosh damn good I absolutely loved every bit of it and wish there was more. Hugo and Catherinelle are to die for and relationship goals. Gotta love how protective, possessive Hugo is, and how bad he has it so bad for Cat. Cat is funny, always playing with fire when it comes to Hugo. She knows how to get what she wants and won't take no for an answer. Their banter is the best they had me laughing 9% in. All the banter that they have just makes everything that much more spicier!!! Gotta love seeing Gino and Muse but my god there where times when I didnt want him there. Diane did exactly what was necessary to get the story to where it needed to get to, and it was Perfection! A new Fav!!!

The second book in the Malavita series is the story of the mafia princess and her bodyguard/underboss and trust me when I say you're gonna fall in love with Catherinelle and Hugo😍
This story was the perfect forbidden mafia romance and the fact that it has the bodyguard element in it made it amazing! The banter, the passion, the love between the 2 main characters was beautiful to read about and the 90's setting makes this book unique. Diane's writing style made me feel like I stepped back in time and it made the reading experience that much precious. I highly recommended this series, starting with Muse

Enjoyed every minute!!!

This book is positively AMAZING!
From the beginning to the end this book is gripping, intriguing and alluring.
Hugo and Catherinelle are very intense, interesting and passionate characters with a highly engaging, enticing and entertaining storyline.
I really liked how empowering Catherinelle is and that she fights heart and soul for what she wants.
Hugo is the dangerous, possessive and alpha type you can’t help but love.
Congratulations Diane the second book in the Malavita series is just as REMARKABLE as the first one.

2 Stars ⭐⭐

A good story brought down by terrible writing and boat load of grammatical errors.

This book needs some serious editing. I just could not focus on the story since every other page had some sort of writing errors.

I liked the main characters. The H was fine for the first half of the book then he turns into a whiny little baby in the second half. The Albanian monster....where???? Boy needed therapy for all the issues he had.

Catherinelle is a delicious mafia book set I the 90s and that played right into my obsession with brooding alpha possessive guy with a dirty mouth. It on a lighter side compared to some mafia I read, but it strikes a good balance between mafia world and the love story. I really enjoyed this book and will be reading the next one for sure.

Cat and Hugo’s (who is 13yrs older and works for her brother) sexual tension was so high. I was waiting for the moment it finally breaks. I loved that Cat went after him and pursued him just to get under his skin, giving into her crush and getting Hugo all twisted up. She knew how to rile him up just right and I was eating it up. The steamy scenes were so delicious, and once you read the book you will now why I had to bake this dessert. Things got quite dirty in there 😏

I enjoy a good age-gap romance and love when it’s paired with forbidden, so I knew this book would be right up my alley.

Catherinelle and Hugo couldn’t be more different. She’s a spoiled mafia princess, but also smart, sassy and fiesty. She knew what she wanted and didn’t shy away from going after Hugo.
And poor Hugo didn’t stand a chance!
He was closed off, grumpy and rugged, but Cat brought out his softer side.
I really enjoyed their banter and they had an amazing chemisty. And holy hotness those steamy scenes!

This series is set in 90s and you really feel that whole vibe when reading. The author really pays attention to all the details.
Storyline is lighter on mafia and focuses more on romance which was perfect for this couple.
I look forward to reading more from this author!

This book totally make me freaking scream with all the emotions that she make me feel and our Catherinelle the New York Mafia done little sister this little devil, that make me love her so much from the first chapter is the most fiery heroine I've ever read know what she wants in her life!

I love how she and Hugo our grumpy man her brother best friends and mafia underboss was chasing like cat and mouse, their banter always make me smile like I psycho and when finally our monster can't handle he's stupid moral instinct, It got even more interesting.
This man is freaking ticking bomb and he's jealous possessive side make me love him even more.

This two captured me, my heart my soul and my wicked mind. The chamisty and the passion burn me alive with them, I read this book in one breath and when the final comes I wanted to reread all the pages again, but I will get my half star only because the final make me want more and somehow I expected something else.

Tropes: forbidden, brothers best friend, age gap, enemies to lovers, bodyguard romance.

Catherinelle, Malavita book two is sexy. I was captivated with Hugo from book one, Muse, and we finally have the story! From the prologue to the ending I was salivating over the mysterious broody man.

I absolutely love this mafia read because it’s a breath of fresh air, set in the 90s.

Hugo is domineering and wicked, everything is wicked. Oh and his mouth is rude! 🍆🙃
Catherinelle is my favorite sunshine fashionista with a heart too large for her own good.
Together Hugo and Catherinelle’s angst is palpable. I love their chemistry and banter. The book kept me waiting for who can say the next wittier line.

As always, I love the support characters woven into the story. I feel the family dynamics and the drama. I can’t wait to see who’s next to get their own book. 👀
