Another brilliant book from Natasha Lester. A page turner filled with love;horror of war;compassion; gentleness; compassion. The thoughts of ‘what if….’ So many lives could have been different but for the characters having so much love for the others they tried to shield them from hurt.

The misogyny shown to women in the period prior and during the war, which continued afterwards. So many wonderfully gifted women who were ignored and put aside by men who felt superior and had an entitlement to act as they pleased.

The appalling behaviour by some soldiers, regardless of which army they fought for.

A book I wanted to finish but felt lost after finishing. Also felt a bit weepy by the conclusion

I really enjoyed how Natasha weaved the stories between the 1940s and 2015 by revealing the past in the future. Many twists which you might guess but likely will guess wrong.

Very clever multi-generational story line, steeped in the evocative feel of the day.

This was such a great story, wonderful detail and characters and a painfully accurate slice of history.
