He was a rogue element, disobeying orders and pursuing mission goals of his own. His Scout Team had been burned, disavowed by his chain of command and the owner of the stolen ship he was flying was after them to get it back. To make matters even more complicated, the man Jacob had stolen the ship from is an infamous outlaw and mercenary named Jason Burke… his father.
Being hunted down by both the United Earth Navy and the mercenary group that called itself Omega Force, Jacob has only one chance to keep his team out of a military prison and bring down the head of the One World terrorist faction that always seemed to be three steps ahead of him… and that was only if his father didn't catch him first.
the first two books in the series were about a certain JB. Or BJ, if you much prefer. This one is more about her father, a character that has his own series -- a series I did not read. Perhaps this book is more for the readers of that series. Confusingly, the father is also a JB. Or BJ.
the story is muddled, unfocused, unengaging. Too many new characters are introduced -- again, they be familiar to the readers of another series, but here they serve only as distractions.
other than that -- JB (the original) means to continue whatever he was doing. At which point JB Sr. pops up and steals the show. And it's not that I can tell what is all about anymore. JB Sr. also happens to have a lot on his plate, working many angles and chasing many threads.
perhaps, if it was better written, it would have been a power fantasy of sorts, as there's no real challenge to the JBs and their coterie of companions, each an one man army, fully capable to take on whatever the universe is throwing at them. And what a coterie it is -- a selection of one of a kind or very rare indeed monsters, each one bigger than life.
Jacob Brown is on the run. With the United Earth Army and his father closing in, he has no choice but to capture the leader of the One Earth terrorist group to save his crew from military prison. In pursuit of his goal and after teaming up with his Dad, he discovers there is a shadow organization (seemingly based out of Earth) supporting the terrorist group—cue the mayhem! He also learns more about his Dad’s motivations along the way and decides his own perception of Jason is maybe a little skewed.
After waiting for what seemed like forever, I was pleased to see the third book in this series had been released. I’m a big fan of the Omega Force series and like this spin off series equally as well. Some plot lines from the previous marine scout books are sewn up and the stage is set for the beginning of another story arc.
The perfect meld of White and Black Hats finding belly shaking humor as they struggle to save Earth from herself!
In just 1 book, Joshua Dalzelle beautifully and with humor merges Omega Force and Team Obsidian past it’s rough beginning into a well oiled fighting unit. One thing is abundantly clear, Dalzelle had way to much fun writing this book and Sci-Fy readers everywhere become the winners because of this Best of all, it is obvious more great stories of the Burke/Brown teams are on the way! You won’t want to miss any of them!
Jacob is being forcibly tutored by the school of hard knocks in an intense education. The biggest challenge is surviving the curriculum! He’s also being forcibly taught that pretty much everything he has thought about his father is wildly wrong. We also get just enough of a glimpse of the conspiracy network opposing them to realize that things are much worse than they had imagined in their worst case scenarios. I guess we’ll see what else emerges from under the slimiest of rocks.
Wrapped up the trilogy well and included some surprises in the story. I read Marine first and found the characters great. It included some back story the made me discover omega force. Was addicted to the OM books and read all 12. This trilogy is in the same universe and in the second book they intertwined. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Highly recommend any book by Joshua Dalzel
I have read both series , I’ll make a force and scout team. I thoroughly enjoy omega force, scout team it’s OK but it’s not Jason and his crew. This crossover Is what I believe the series needed. Excellent, plenty of action, fast paced and character development. I will continue to read the series to see how Captain Brown’s character develops. Worth the read and worth your time.
I’ve been waiting what seemed an eternity for the 3rd installment of this series. It merged well with the Omega Force storyline. It filled in gaps from that series and tied up loose ends from the second Terran Scout book. I highly recommend reading the first two books of this series before reading “Vapor.” It would be envelopes better reading the Omega Force series as well.
I use ratings to decide which books I am going to buy, and I recently decided I am partially responsible for inflating the ratings on books. Either they were 5 star or 1 star. I decided to use the star rating more objectively as follows:
★★★★★ Great book! Can’t wait to read it again (and I will). ★★★★☆ Good book. I am glad I read this. ★★★☆☆ OK book. Nothing special but not bad. ★★☆☆☆ Not good. Why did I waste my time? ★☆☆☆☆ Lousy. I didn’t finish.
Beyond great, the two storylines were brought together so well. It's such a great read. Josh has out done himself with this latest Scout Fleet book. So looking forward to the next Omega Force book in September. Please keep up the wonderful story of these two groups....
Best of the Omega Force universe collection so far!
This was an exciting and well-executed overlap between the Omega Force and Terran Scout Fleet series. Mr. Dalzelle stayed true to both series while leading the reader through plenty of action and intrigue in a most entertaining way. I’m looking forward to the next installments in both series.
This was a great crossover of the two series. The inclusion of the Omega Force in this book tied every up. The reconnection of father and son, the ensuing fight, and the groundwork for a better relationship. The overall plot good and fast paced. Recommend this book(series) to fans of the original series.
Another fun and fast read from Joshua Dalzelle. This book completes the introductory story arc for Jacob Brown. It had a nice tie-in to the "Omega Force" books but is able to stand on it's own very well. It takes place in the same universe as the earlier series but approaches it from a very different perspective. I look forward to more from either series.
Oh man, this book was so much dang fun!!!! I absolutely loved seeing all of the characters that I’ve grown to love interact. The two groups meeting did NOT disappoint in the least and the story was fantastic!! I am equally looking forward to the continuing adventure of both groups!!!
A merged story line of Omega force and Scout Fleet, a few twists but no real surprises Jason meets Jacob Crusher makes a new friend Jason gets really hacked off and vents it at people, twice !!!
Joshua please write faster, the delays between books is killing me
There are very few authors that promise a good time every time a new book comes out, but Joshua Dalzelle is definitely one of them. He's never earth-shatteringly innovative, but his stories are consistently entertaining and his characters jump off the page. Vapor Trails brings together Omega Force and the TSF in another great adventure, and I look froward to book 4.
Ah, the twists and turns in this book are as interesting as they were in author Dalzelle's earlier books. I have been an avid reader of sci-fi for 70 years and have grown old reading the masters. I firmly believe Mr. Dalzelle is definitely on an equal level with many of those I have in mind. Buy the series and enjoy them as much as I have.
Well, most of the bad guys are dead or retiring from their office, thanks to Jacob and his crew, as well as his father. The end left it open for the next group of baddies. I look forward to the next book.
No romance and the F-bomb was used 45 times.
As for the narration: Paul Heitsch does such a great job on this series.
I really liked how the writer tied up a lot of the loose ends in this book. I've been reading a lot of series lately, and it's really annoying to have the book end in a cliff hanger. This ending feels clean and allows me to rest my imagination and start into the next book with a clean slate...nicely done, Mr. Dalzelle.
This book has everything action intrigued treachery and family relationships. The book continues from where the previous book ended. I will say this book is really hard to put down. If you like the Omega series this one is like a crossover show involving both series and characters.
I couldn't put this book down and read it all in one afternoon. It took a little while to pick up the story, but it is still a great read. I can't wait until the next Omega Force books come out!
Putting Father and Son together was great! Hope to see more of the same, also want to see what happens with Lucky! Just hope I don't have to wait too long, so I can remember the previous action. At my age short term memory loss is a given!
This is a great read I haven't Read a book in quite a while With this authors work I stay very interested.I Follow both series And I'm very happy and how he combine the two stories Together and make them run seamlessly.
Jacob and his Obsidian team are back and still hunting the leader of One World, but having stolen the Phoenix, a meeting with his dad is more likely!! Good book, that has Jason and the Omega team playing an active part, as father and son meet up.
Absolute thrill of a read, but the episodic nature of the series is getting a bit long in the tooth. At about a five hour read, it feels more like a comic book or a newspaper novella, than a book. Still giving it 5/5 though.
Loved this book, I've been waiting for what feels like years for this book the be released. And it didn't disappoint. Loved seeing old friend, new enemies, etc etc. It was a very easy read and so worth it. Please don't make me wait so long for the next book!!
This was a heart pumping story the whole way through. It was really cool to see both stories of Jason and Jacob together. I'll be excited to see where the next Omega Force book goes from here, but definitely recommend.
I really enjoyed this crossover very much!!! I've read all of the OF books and can't wait for the next book to come out! I love the characters and the interactions between them. Please just keep them coming!!!!!!
This series has great characters and an intriguing storyline. Follow the story to see if the Burke family, aka Jansen family survive to right their past as they protect humanity.
This was a good ending to the trilogy. Only now I found out there are plenty of books before this one that give some of the history mentioned in these books. I will have to put them on the list to read.
