Jason Aaron grew up in a small town in Alabama. His cousin, Gustav Hasford, who wrote the semi-autobiographical novel The Short-Timers, on which the feature film Full Metal Jacket was based, was a large influence on Aaron. Aaron decided he wanted to write comics as a child, and though his father was skeptical when Aaron informed him of this aspiration, his mother took Aaron to drug stores, where he would purchase books from spinner racks, some of which he still owns today.

Aaron's career in comics began in 2001 when he won a Marvel Comics talent search contest with an eight-page Wolverine back-up story script. The story, which was published in Wolverine #175 (June 2002), gave him the opportunity to pitch subsequent ideas to editors.

In 2006, Aaron made a blind submission to DC/Vertigo, who published his first major work, the Vietnam War story The Other Side which was nominated for an Eisner Award for Best Miniseries, and which Aaron regards as the "second time" he broke into the industry.

Following this, Vertigo asked him to pitch other ideas, which led to the series Scalped, a creator-owned series set on the fictional Prairie Rose Indian Reservation and published by DC/Vertigo.

In 2007, Aaron wrote Ripclaw: Pilot Season for Top Cow Productions. Later that year, Marvel editor Axel Alonso, who was impressed by The Other Side and Scalped, hired Aaron to write issues of Wolverine, Black Panther and eventually, an extended run on Ghost Rider that began in April 2008. His continued work on Black Panther also included a tie-in to the company-wide crossover storyline along with a "Secret Invasion" with David Lapham in 2009.

In January 2008, he signed an exclusive contract with Marvel, though it would not affect his work on Scalped. Later that July, he wrote the Penguin issue of The Joker's Asylum.

After a 4-issue stint on Wolverine in 2007, Aaron returned to the character with the ongoing series Wolverine: Weapon X, launched to coincide with the feature film X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Aaron commented, "With Wolverine: Weapon X we'll be trying to mix things up like that from arc to arc, so the first arc is a typical sort of black ops story but the second arc will jump right into the middle of a completely different genre," In 2010, the series was relaunched once again as simply Wolverine. He followed this with his current run on Thor: God of Thunder.

The Mighty Thor: Thoughts

Marvel-Verse: Jane Foster, The Mighty Thor by Jason Aaron et al.

Meh! I was hoping for a lot more. It was hard to read, the art was sporadic, and the stories shared were disjointed. Did I mention that it was also fun? Mostly fun, I should say. My four-year-old associate wanted to give it 3 or 4 stars. I was thinking 2 or 3. Let’s agree on three.

Some of what the book does is fine, even better than fine. That is why when the stories don’t continue, it is a little more than a little disappointing. You see, Jane Foster is one of Marvel’s first and finest female heroes. Thor is a female? No, “’The Mighty Thor’ is a female, chosen by the magical hammer, Mjolnir,” explained my four-year-old associate.

The thing is that I remember Jane Foster as a nurse, working with Dr. Donald Blake, the alter-ego of Thor, way back when. It seems that way back when - September 1962 – is when she first appeared. That is a long time.

Her career has been long and complicated, and as this volume indicates, Foster is taking up the mantle of Valkyrie. It would have been good if this volume bounced around less, and filled in the gap more. Instead, it was an introduction to having to dig up (or buy) more Marvel tales. After all, comics can still be the leading edge of a big business for the Marvel Empire.

Get ready to join Dr. Jane Foster as The Mighty Thor…the Goddess of Thunder! When Odinson found himself unworthy of wielding Mjolnir, she took command of the lightning!

A really good entry in the Marvel-Verse series, which a mix of stories that is really good for a new reader. With this in mind, the actual contents of the book are quite different from the ones described in the official solicitation or on Marvel.com for that matter.

Starts off with a few pages explaining how Jane became Thor (The Mighty Thor: Marvel Legacy Primer), then dives right into a couple of solo adventures. The first is Thor (2014) #2, with Jane discovering how to use her powers while Earth is under attack from some Frost Giants. The second is from Thor Annual #1 (2014) and is a fun cartoony story where Jane Thor attempts to befriend the Warriors Three. Next is All-New, All-Different Avengers #4 and is the weakest in the book - there's very little of Jane and when there is, she acts very random. Afterwards, more cartoony fun with Thor & Loki: Double Trouble #3 and #4. And finally, materials from War of the Realms Omega (a few pages describing what comes next for Jane), and Journey Into Mystery #100 (classic Stan Lee stuff)

Actually a really solid book. I had my reservations about a female Thor just being a politically correct ploy, but I’ll hand it to the writers: It felt organic to the story/character and interesting to the overall comic world. I’m now very interested to read more Jane Foster Thor and to also check out Valkyrie.

Not crazy about the selections in this, as well as the lack of a complete arc. I knew of Jane Foster going into this, but I wanted to learn more about her. Unfortunately, I don’t feel like I really did.

This was a great little compilation of The Mightly Thor's stories over the years. It was fun to see the different interpretations of the character through the different authors and artists. Nice little addition for your comic collection.

Enjoy seeing Jane Foster as Thor! But some of these comics were definitely better than others. The retro one was especially so cheesy and annoying. I really would have liked to see more of Jane being Thor instead of whatever that was.

I loved the book so much and it was really good. I’m usually not into comics but this one was different. I loved it!

A good collection of stories highlighting different artists but I wanted more of one story arc not several episodes (some of which ended in a way I was frustrated the next one wasn't next in order)

She was interesting...one comic didn't belong, but otherwise it was fun.
