About the author

Kevin Patrick Smith is an American screenwriter, director, as well as a comic book writer, author, and actor. He is also the co-founder, with Scott Mosier, of View Askew Productions and owner of Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash comic and novelty store in Red Bank, New Jersey. He also hosts a weekly podcast with Scott Mosier known as SModcast. He is also known for participating in long, humorous Q&A Sessions that are often filmed for DVD release, beginning with An Evening with Kevin Smith.

His films are often set in his home state of New Jersey, and while not strictly sequential, they do frequently feature crossover plot elements, character references, and a shared canon in what is known by fans as the "View Askewniverse", named after his production company View Askew Productions. He has produced numerous films and television projects, including Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and Clerks II.

Die neue Zeichentrickserie ist schon länger auf Netflix verfügbar und hat viele Fans der 80er Jahre-Serie eine Freude bereitet. Nun legen Kevin "Silent Bob" Smith und Rob David die Vorgeschichte zu eben dieser Serie in gezeichneter Form vor.

Im Gegensatz zu vielen anderen Comics ist mir hier aufgefallen, dass auf Details keinen Wert gelegt wurde. Die meist mit einfarbigen Hintergrund gehaltenen Panels sind gewöhnungsbedürftig.

Die Geschichte an sich hat für mich - der leider nicht so das Insiderwissen hat - viele Überraschungen parat gehalten.

Ich habe die erste Staffel der neuen Serie auf Netflix gesehen. Dieser Comic ist nun die Vorgeschichte dazu. So erfährt man einiges über die Vergangenheit Skeletors und auch Evil-Lyns Jugend wird erzählt. He-Man reist durch ein Portal in die Zeit von King Grayskull und bringt wichtige Neuigkeiten mit nach Hause.

An das Ende des Comics schließt sich nahtlos die neue Serie an und es werden einige Fragen geklärt, die man sich vielleicht zu Anfang der TV-Serie stellt. Mir wurden einige Dinge klarer, jedoch bin ich auch nicht zu sehr in der Materie drin, damit ich alles verstanden habe.

Ich denke, dass das Comic für richtige Fans genau richtig ist. Mir persönlich war es etwas zu wirr und es kamen auch einige Charaktere darin vor, die ich gar nicht kannte und somit nicht zuordnen konnte.

Außerdem war mir Skeletors Vergangenheit anders in Erinnerung. Sie wird in dem Comic anders beschrieben, als mir von meinem Mann erzählt wurde, der ein großer Fan der Serie ist.

Story was blah, art was blah. Kevin Smith's work in comics has been hit and miss, his Daredevil and Green Arrow stuff was good but Spidey Black Cat not so much but there is so much you can do with all the great characters and lore of this ip so why try to reinvent when you can expand? I guess we know why Adam got that nice tan when turning into He-Man now. The Orlax thing was lame. Skeletor's appearance best part of the story.

La interesante propuesta de Kevin Smith para esta franquicia presentada en la primera parte de la serie animada para Netflix parece que se asentará y complementará mejor con este cómic precuela. Un primer número con un arte cumplidor y que parece que va a responder a más preguntas que las de la misma serie animada.

The story is not too compelling but the art is fairly good. I think Stephan Sejic captured He-Man well on the standard cover.

Wasn’t a massive fan of this one despite being a huge MOTU fan. The artwork wasn’t my cup of tea and the story wasn’t all that great. Check out the superior show instead.
