Rosie Raine loves writing about women of all shapes and sizes and the strong, sexy men that win their hearts. Her stories are short and sweet with plenty of steam.
"Connor lets go of my hand, instead placing his hand on the small of my back, and pulls me closer to him. “Maybe getting you this dress was a bad idea after all. I don’t like how those men are looking at you.“ A warm glow of pleasure settles in my stomach. I like that he’s possessive."
I loved this short read. What can I say, I stan a possessive man. The only thing I didn't like about this book was why Connor's son. It wasn't that he was so mean (which he was) it was just that there was no proper reason for him doing what he did. It didn't make sense to me the hatred he had for her. And that his fiance encouraged the behavior? It was just weird and left me puzzled.
My Ex's Father is a 39-page novella. Amber is described throughout the short story as "chubby." She's a waitress who runs into her ex-boyfriend, his new fiance, and his father one night only to find out, harshly, that his ex was only fake dating her as a joke. When he berates her privately and brings her to tears, her ex's father, Connor, comes to the rescue.
Connor is strongly attracted to her and couldn't care less that she is his son's ex-girlfriend. He appreciates her––curves and all.
There was too much angst and drama, and not enough context or content. It was a "wham, bam, thank you, Ma'am" type of story that left the reader hanging like a dangling participle with nowhere to go. It made very little sense, the ex was a cruel a**h-le, and the dad was a sweetheart. The boss should have gotten in trouble for his inappropriate language with an employee, and the FMC needed to grow a spine, although she was a kind-hearted person who got a sh*tty deal with her ex. Definitely not the best story.
I was expecting a little more interaction from the son. It seems as though he did catch feelings but was too immature to move past superficial and fake ideas of beauty. I liked how the father stepped in but there should have been more of development on the relationship between father and ex. What else happens to build her confidence and inner strength.
Just what the hell. And why? Why is the number one question I kept asking myself every couple of seconds while reading this, because I couldn't wrap my head around any of it.
Why was she with this guy, Alex, for 3 months, that made her feel like shit about herself all the time? Why did he and his real girlfriend/fiancée randomly decide to “prank” her by Alex fake-dating her? Why was Alex so hell-bent on making Amber feel worthless? “I’ll let go of you if you admit that you’re an idiot for believing me. That you are worthless, and no one will ever love you.” Like, seriously, what the fuck is he on about. You would think he was getting revenge on her for something, but no, he just randomly decided to waste 3 months of his life trying to make her think he liked her. But he was cruel to her the whole time, so it's not like he was doing a great job. Idk, the more I think about it, the more confused and annoyed I get because none of it adds up. There's absolutely no backstory explaining how Amber and Alex met, how or why they starting dating, anything of the sort.
Moving past that, she meets Alex’s dad, Connor, on page 2 or 3, at her job where Connor, Alex and Alex's new fiancée are celebrating the engagement, and within 5 minutes of Connor meeting Amber, he offers to buy her place of work if her manager won't let her off so that she can go out on a date with him in the middle of her shift…and he has the audacity to have the thought, “It pains me that she can’t believe I would do this for her.” I WONDER WHY, SIR. (Inside voice, I’m sorry.) But, maybe, just maybe, she doesn’t believe it because you’ve known each other for 3 seconds. Just a crazy thought. Though, she falls for him instantly even after all she just went through with his son, so really her brief hesitation doesn't even matter.
Then Alex swoops back in, stealing his dad’s phone after the date Connor took Amber on, and sends her a fake message the following morning saying that Connor won’t be seeing her again. Really? What is with all the childish theatrics he’s going through to make sure Amber isn’t happy? There is NO explanation for any of it. It's all resolved quickly though, with Connor showing up at Amber's job that same day and they figure out what happened.
Then, keeping on track with the overwhelming OTT and unbelievable nature of the book - this is all happening in under 48 hours of them knowing each other - Connor buys Amber a building for the bakery she wanted to open, and quickly following that, they have sex without protection. Like, she's on the pill, but c'mon. They have known each other less than 2 days, she's a virgin to top it all off, they haven't went over history so she has no clue if he's clean or not, but she tells him not to use a condom...girl, disrespectfully, you're dumb as hell.
Yeah, no, I can't with this. The writing itself wasn't too bad, a few misspellings that I noted, but that's about it. It's the lack of substance in the story. The only reason I finished it was because it was like 30 pages.
Amber is working as an waitress when her boyfriend Alex comes in with his arm around a woman announcing his engagement. He is determined to humiliate her and be as cruel as possible. Connor is shocked as when he meets Amber he is instantly attracted to her. Connor wishes to spoil her like she deserves. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this engaging entertaining and compelling story. The story is well written, fast paced, with lots of chemistry between the characters, angst, passion, commitment, betrayals, rivalry, manipulation, kindness, love, friendship and support. Told from dual POVs reveals intimately their thoughts, feelings, and emotions as they explore their relationship. There's an epilogue and a HEA 💓
Age gap Exs Dad Cinnamon roll MMC Full figured FMC Virgin Instalove
TW: Cheating EX, malicious prank, toxic work environment.
Super cute novella. I enjoyed it. It’s a short instalove book that just leaves you feeling happy. I’d have loved for it to be longer.
This book ended where we could potentially get another book about these characters in the future if the author wished to do so. I’d love to hear more about what happened with the EX, how Connor and Ambers relationship is going, etc. I’d also love a separate book about Lana who was introduced right at the end of this story. I feel like there could be good potential for a story there.
I’ll definitely be checking out the authors other work!

The writing was pretty good, and the storyline was interesting enough. But the insta love was just too OTT for me. Less than 24 hours after meeting the male protagonist, this woman (who is a virgin, by the way) decides to have sex with him and specifically says no to a condom without even asking if he is clean. After they have sex, neither of them bother even mentioning cleaning up and they just go to sleep. There were some other things that definitely took me out of the story for being too unrealistic, but that sex scene was the biggest one.
The story is going beautifully and then it just, ends. No idea if they end up together permanently, no follow up with the bad guy to know if anything changed etc. It’s in serious need of two more chapters to feel like a complete story. It does not appear the author has a sequel in mind, but it doesn’t give stand alone vibes at all to me. Otherwise, it’s fairly well written. It had several spelling errors but almost all of them were things like head written where heat was meant to go.
I love OTT short reads when they're well written and here's a really good example. The trope of the shy, virgin and possessive alpha male has obviously been done before, but Amber and Connor are super cute and their story just made me smile. Some may find it all a bit unbelievable, but come on ladies, this is a fantasy, and only 35 or so pages to make their dreams come true!
At 2:00a.m. I should be asleep, but I could not put the book down and loved how special Connor treated Amber, had to finish the story. Yes it is that good. Loved it
This is a very short story about a age gap couple. I really liked the story line but I felt like everything was crammed into a short book. Good story line just felt rushed and crammed.
If you want a short sweet sexy story then you will like this. I just wish it would have been more. Conner and Amber are cute together and all but I wish Rosie Raine would have done more with their story.
Not what I was expecting. Contrary to the cover, the male lead has gray hair and the female protagonist is blonde and is considered fat or chubby...no one's alter ego. Not sure why Alex hates Amber (bullying for no reason apparently). Glad it's only 5 chapters.
The set up and characters were pretty good (a little cliche, but still good). The story could definitely have been drawn out into a longer, more detailed book, but still got the point across in 39 pages.
I got this book for free and honestly, I'm glad I did. It's more like a short story and while the bones of it are promising, it needs a lot of massaging and editing. The characters also sounded more like pre-teens than grown adults, so it had me laughing for all the wrong reasons.
Sweetest story. I love how even though things were crap she still gave him a chance. A bad day turned into an amazing relationship with someone unexpected
The basis is sound, the story flows but I feel it needs a little more icing and a cherry on the top. It just feels as if it needs the author to believe in it a bit more.
