حكايات يغلب عليها الطابع التراجيدي..
كل القصص تقريباً تنتهي بنهايات مفجعة إما أنتحار او موت.. ولكن استمتعت بالكتاب وتجربة لا بأس بها

حين قراءتك لعنوان الكتاب حكايات شعبية تتوقع ان الكتاب يحوي كما لا بأس به من الخرافات واﻷساطير ولكن لم أتوقع ان تكون إلى هذه الدرجة ...
أدركت عدة أمور في هذا الكتاب ...
1_ أغلب العشاق اليابانيون ينتحرون بسبب آلام ذلك العشق .
2_ نصف الشعب الياباني القديم لديه مزار أو ضريح يؤول إليه الناس .
3_ نسبة كبيرة من الفتيات اليابانيات نحو 99.9 % يتسمن بالجمال الباهر .
4_ الفتاة بعد سن ال 18 تدخل في ما يسمى " العنوسة " ويجب تزويجها قبل ذلك السن .
وأدركت أيضا ألا اقرأ قصص او كتب من هذا النوع ... وأني دخلت في سنتي اﻷولى في " العنوسة " :)

الكتاب يحتوي على مجموعة من القصص القصيرة أكثرها تحكي عن المزارات/المعابد في اليابان والقصة وراء وجودها، أو عن بعض ابطال اليابان.. القصص (أغلبها) لا تحتوي على حبكة أو عبرة أو أي شي من هذا القبيل..

Smith, a Victorian traveller to Japan, compiled into this book a number of folktales that he heard from the people around him while there.
I have always been interested in mythology and folklore. My great-grandmother used to tell me stories from Hindu mythology when I was four or five (though unfortunately her versions are now lost to the sands of infantile amnesia), and throughout elementary school I branched out to Greek and Norse mythology as well.
I’m not sure why I love fairytales and folklore so much – the oral tradition of them means that they aren’t necessarily the most beautiful in form, and they can get quite repetitive. But I think I like them because they give you an insider glimpse into other cultures, into the themes that preoccupy them and the worldview of the tellers.
In recent years, I’ve been trying to read the stories of more diverse cultures. So when I saw a copy of this book at the Strand, I figured it would be an excellent jumping off point into Japanese folklore.
This book consists of a number of folktales from Japan, many of them quite local to the storytellers. Smith has a straightforward, lucid manner of recounting these stories, and does an excellent job of not intruding on them, usually interjecting only to explain how he came to heard the stories or in the form of clarifying footnotes.
There’s quite a wide range of stories here – quests, love stories, ghost stories, and curses just to name a few. I’d never heard any of them before, so it was exciting to go along with the storyteller with no idea of where we might be going. And the picture of ancient Japan that is painted is a beautiful, mysterious one – a lush land where the dead walk alongside with the living.

Seguramente por la época que se escribió, y aún sabiendo que la mentalidad no era la misma, no he conseguido empatizar con muchos de los protagonistas de las historias, leyendo incluso diálogos de bastante mal gusto.

One of the most leisurely and restful reads I’ve had in a long time, this 1918 collection was made by a non-Japanese speaking researcher from England who collected its fifty-seven tales over the nine years he spent in the islands. Each story is so gracefully laid out that I felt I was sitting around with acquaintances after a meal and listening to an aged, soft-spoken, wise, kindly rendition of that has been passed down from centuries past. What the work may lack in scholarly attributes it more than makes up for in sheer narrative brilliance. The following are just some of the major features of the stories:
Cultural attributes: strong filial piety; patriarchal dominance; class segregation; impassioned denunciation of adultery; absolute loyalty to one’s daimio, involving more than once a father killing a son to satisfy his lord; a retainer committing seppuku in order to show his master how to lose games gracefully; excessive devotion to a very austere form of Buddhism; hopes of reincarnation; extreme nationalistic pride of Japan, causing the spurning of a Korean girl’s love; disputes about Europeanization during the time of the Meiji reforms; the exceptional physical, mental and spiritual strength of diving girls; Bon Odori dances of moral licentiousness corrected by a tree spirit inducing more proper behaviors; southern Japanese poking fun at northerners, who they claim drink so much sake they see women in snow covered trees; and lots and lots and lots of religion: almost every story has a priest or a Goddess or a shrine or a temple or several of these.
Romanticism: true love; when love does occur, it is almost always at first sight; a suicide pact between lovers; lots of girls – always, young (fourteen to eighteen years of age) and always very beautiful; sincere, deep friendship; suicide over unrequited love due to disparities of social class; a girl who falls in love with a vision of a God to avoid an arranged marriage; a broken betrothal leading to s suicide, and ghostly apparitions arising from a painting of the corpse; true love which survives and conquers despite separation, fire, becoming an orphan and blindness.
The Occult: animism; vengeful spirits; shito doma, or astral spirits; more than one magical sword; a dress with magical powers that bring death to its wearer and a massive fire to an entire community upon its burning; sake that provides eternal life to the righteous and acts a poison to evil individuals; spirits bringing storms on the anniversary of their drowning; similar causes for snow storms after death by avalanche.
Strange Powers: a hermit on a mountain who cures the infirm and turns inanimate objects into flowers and birds; a Goddess who dispenses a fountain of youth elixir to a young couple; the Goddess of Fujiyama whose stream’s waters cure smallpox; sake which provides immortality to the righteous who drink it but acts a poison to evil ones; lotus lilies curing people; an ear shell (an oyster) eating a fisherman; fireflies executing vengeance on a thief; chrysanthemum, peony and cherry flowers exhibiting miraculous powers and creating visions of spirits.
Monsters and other beasts: an eight-headed dragon; spooks; hobgoblins; eries; a nine-foot long, maiden-devouring carp; a giant eagle: as big as a man, guarding an island with profuse seafood and fruit; a whale who saves a shipwrecked fisherman; vampire bats.
Bizarre, strange occurrences: a lover's consumption of part of the corpse of his intended; a yearly sacrifice of a young, beautiful virgin to appease a spirit in a bay; bees and fireflies joining military forces to help them to victory; an island with strange flora and fauna, a giant and seaweed with curative powers; monkeys who listen to Buddhist sermons; a dead spirit inhabiting seagulls; unbelievable coincidences.
All-in-all, thoroughly delightful, charming, light and diverting.

This book gives a look into Japan's past. It lets the reader see what life was like in those days and the tales they told in those days. It also lets the reader see what they belived in before they were Europeanized. In many of the stories there is interaction between spirits and the living. Some interactions are peacefull where the spirit helps the human with something,or the spirit has fallen in love with the human due to the human in question showing great respect to the vessel in which the spirit resides.In other tales the spirit is vengfull andis out to kill someone for some reason.

Muy buena recopilación de cuentos tradicionales. Cuentos que te llevan a otras épocas al Japón más tradicional. Me ha encantado, y es un libro para releer.

Igual que los cuentos clásicos de occidente, son un no parar de clichés (tened en cuenta que el libro es de principios del siglo pasado y los cuentos muy muy anteriores), aunque lógicamente en este caso son bien distintos (¡a veces no tanto!). Si te gusta este tipo de literatura, este te gustará, ya que es un compendio muy bien surtido, con múltiples anotaciones útiles (como un léxico para entender todo y no tener que traducir nada de forma inexacta) y aderezado, en su formato escrito, con numerosas ilustraciones. Aquí encontrarás:
-Espíritus a cascoporro.
-Conflictos familiares a cholón.
-Muchas historias de amor imposible.
-Docenas de personas haciéndose el Harakiri/Seppuku.
-Cantidad de jovenes hermosísimas hasta decir basta, a menudo menores de edad.
-Y, me temo que, un uso excesivo de la frase "Como buen/a/os/as japones/a/es/as que era/n"...
-Espíritus a cascoporro.
-Conflictos familiares a cholón.
-Muchas historias de amor imposible.
-Docenas de personas haciéndose el Harakiri/Seppuku.
-Cantidad de jovenes hermosísimas hasta decir basta, a menudo menores de edad.

Muy buena recopilación de historias por parte del Sr Richard Gordon.
Nos muestra un Japón lleno de misterio y veneración hacia los seres de la naturaleza. La vida cotidiana mezclada con el mundo místico lleno de dioses, espíritus y fantasmas.
Hombres y mujeres fuertes, humildes, villanos, devotos, valientes, se muestran en estos cuentos, que tratan de enseñar y dar consejo a quien quiera prestar oído.
Nos muestra un Japón lleno de misterio y veneración hacia los seres de la naturaleza. La vida cotidiana mezclada con el mundo místico lleno de dioses, espíritus y fantasmas.
Hombres y mujeres fuertes, humildes, villanos, devotos, valientes, se muestran en estos cuentos, que tratan de enseñar y dar consejo a quien quiera prestar oído.

مجموعة أساطير شعبية من اليابان عن أبطال الساموراي والنساك والكهنة البوذيين أغلبها تدور عن الحب وتنتهي نهايات حزينة .. تلحظ بها إهتمام شديد بالجغرافية وبذكر شجاعة الرجل الياباني ونبله.

Richard Gordon hace un trabajo impresionante no solo traduciendo los cuentos sino contextualizando con revisiones históricas de los relatos y siempre te deja con el punto de referencia para que puedas ir a conocer el lugar de muchos de esos relatos.

جميل أن تسمع سرد الجكايات الشعبية لبلدان مختلفة... وبالفعل فالأخلاق الفاضلة لطالما كانت محور قصص التراث.
وبلد كاليابان أو الشرق الأقصى عموماً إما ستستمتع بسرد أقاصيصها لما مشهور فيها من الخرافات والأساطير أو تضرب بها عرض الحائط من أول صفحتين ! )بالنسبة لي استمتع كثيراً بروايات الشرق(
الكتاب جميل إجمالاً يضم بين دفتيه بعض الأقصوصات الشعبية لم أدري هل حقاً بعضهاً حقيقة وبعضها خيال! فكثير ماكان يقول أن بعد هذه الحادثة تم بناء معبد تخليداً لروح الشخص ومازال قائماً ومزاراً إلى الآن !
وتؤكد هذه القصص الشهامة والأخلاق السامية لدى اليابانين تارة بوصف حسن سلوك وتربية أولادهم وإجلالهم لهم لمن هم أكبر سناً وتارة تتغنى بأخلاق الساموراي الشهمة والغريبة حقاً !!
وهناك بعض القصص التي حتماً من الصعب أن تفهم مغزاها ربما لطريقة سردها الغريبة أو ربما لاختلاف الثقافة !

من يقرأها يُدرك الثقافة اليبانية القديمة والتي تُولي المعابد والمزارات والصلاة إليها أمراً مهماً؛ وكيف أن من يحافظ على صلواته يحصل على بركات الآله، والإلاهات كثيرة في ثقافتهم - فتعالى الله الأحد الفرد الصمد.
تنتهي كثير من القصص بقتل النفس، وهذا شرف، أو تكفير عن ذنب..
يتضح من القصص العلاقة الوطيدة بالبحر والشواطئ، ورحلات الصيد والحيتان..
الحب علاقة مقدسة تنتهي بالزواج، وبعض القصص تشير إلى أن سن الزواج للمرأة 17 سنة أو 18 والذي يجب ألا تتعده..
كانت قراءة جديدة في قصص الشعوب، لم أستمتع كثيراً..

Un libro muy entretenido, lo he escuchado en Audible y el narrador es fenomenal.
Si nunca has leído nada de Japón este es un libro muy entretenido e interesante, lo único que sabía de cuentos y leyendas de Japón es lo poco que leí en la uni y lo que he visto en algunos animes, nada más.
Tengo que buscar más libros de este estilo, la cultura de Japón es muy interesante, sobre todo en tema criaturas y espíritus se refiere.
Un libro muy entretenido, lo he escuchado en Audible y el narrador es fenomenal.
Si nunca has leído nada de Japón este es un libro muy entretenido e interesante, lo único que sabía de cuentos y leyendas de Japón es lo poco que leí en la uni y lo que he visto en algunos animes, nada más.

Me ha parecido muy interesante aunque me ha costado terminarlo. Los nombres japoneses me liaron pero aprendí cosas sobre su cultura que me parecieron muy interesantes y bonitas que, al ser repetitivas, doy por hecho que son muy importantes para ellos.

Magia, fantasía, espiritualidad… una increíble selección de textos que acercan a occidente el Japón más exótico y sobrenatural. Narraciones breves pero de una belleza exquisita, producto de la tradición oral y en las que destaca la ambientación rural que le da a cada historia un aire aún más evocador si cabe.

Cuentos que se leen de una forma muy ágil y fluida, breves, poco exigentes pero de lo más enriquecedores, disfrutables y muy aprovechables. No sé qué tiene la literatura japonesa que hace que te repliegues sobre ti mismo e indagues en tu interior para descubrir cómo eres, qué sientes, y a qué estás dispuesto a abrirte, expandiéndote seguidamente al mundo tras visualizar cada recoveco de tu alma.
Si leer cuentos tradicionales es un gusto de por sí, hacerlo en una edición ilustrada con tan buen gusto como esta es otro nivel. Las ilustraciones hacen mención a algunos de los relatos y beben también de la tradición japonesa, siendo la última pieza a encajar en este viaje al Japón más ancestral y auténtico.
Como digo, todo un regalo para los sentidos, un libro para beber a sorbitos, sin exigirse, para disfrutar y expandirse, pues no solo es maravilloso por lo que nos ofrece, sino por lo que nos ayuda a crecer personal y espiritualmente.

La edición es impecable, con explicaciones al pie de página, maravillosas y de gran ayuda, e ilustrado, aunque me hubiera gustado que pusieran en cada ilustración a que relato pertenece, porque tengo dudas de algunos, aunque la mayoría son fácilmente reconocidos gracias a que tiene una frase explicando la escena con los nombres de los personajes.
Es un compendio de mogollón de leyendas y relatos del folclore japonés, tienen cientos de años, algunos muchos mas que otros. Son relatos muy cortos, el mas corto son un par de páginas y el mas largo no llega a ocho, me parece. Por eso es aconsejable no leerlos seguidos, sobre todo llegando al final que ya una tiene tanto samurái, espíritu y monje en la cabeza que se empiezan a mezclar, es un libro para ir poco a poco con él.
Como todo libro de relatos hay algunos que me han encantado, y me ha fascinado ver el nacimiento de ciertas fiestas o creencias. En contra partida hay otros que no me han ilusionado tanto, hay algunos relatos que me ponían un poco nerviosa al ver como trataba a la figura de la mujer pero claro estamos hablando de leyendas del 1100, por decir la fecha de algunos relatos, y la mujer en el medievo japonés pues no tenia mucho papel, me gusta porque hay uno en particular que el escritor tiene un comentario muy acertado sobre como trata un personaje considerado heroico a su mujer, digamos que no lo vemos muy heroico no, pero incluso en estos momentos estos relatos me han parecido interesantes porque son un muy buen reflejo de una época.

Una bonita recopilación de historias tradicionales... desde el prisma de nuestro amigo Gordon Smith, algo que se aprecia en pequeños detalles aquí y allá.
En resumen, un buen libro si eres aficionade a los cuentos y/o a la cultura japonesa. Ideal para ir leyendo poquito a poco; un cuento hoy, otro mañana... ya que son independientes totalmente.

Achei o livro sem graça e sem envolvimento nenhum. Muitos dos contos que li foram bastante monótonos e não me senti instigada para continuar o livro. Acredito que tenha uma grande importância cultural para os japoneses ter suas tradições reunidas, mas do ponto de vista do leitor, é sofrível continuar lendo histórias que em nada te instigam a continuar.

Curioso libro de cuentos e historias de Japón. Suelen ser cortos y algunos con finales muy abruptos pero en general transmiten muy bien la mentalidad japonesa tradicional. Recomendable aunque sea para lecturas cortas
