Daughters of Courage #4

The Tenacious Lady Blackmore

Rate this book
He’ll leave London, just as soon as the excuses to stay run out… So she determines they never will.

Sir Seth Mulgrave has finally come to the end of the London season and he could not be more relieved; surely a man never went grey so fast. With his three girls settled and their futures bright he’s ready to return to the quiet home he is used to and never again set foot among the haut ton. And, yet, for some reason, he finds himself hesitating to leave London.

Lady Charlotte Blackmore has never been more happy than she has been this past year helping Sir Mulgrave find husbands for his three young women. Now their endeavor is over, though, and she’s facing a comparatively bleak winter. Soon, she begins finding excuses for Seth to remain in London. Honestly, she’d do anything to keep her new friend around…anything, except admit her growing feelings for him. That would be far too much.

However, with three Mulgrave daughters living near enough to see what neither their father nor Charlotte are willing to admit, no one’s leaving London until all is set straight. There’s no doubt about it, this London season is ending with a bang.

The entire series starts because of Lady Blackmore and Seth, so it seems fitting to end the series with their story.

Maybe I’m getting old, but sometimes it’s fun to mix it up and have the main characters be middle aged. Laura Rollins does a great job of creating romance between these seasoned characters. Aren’t we all a little young at heart when in love?We learn to love these two throughout the series, but this book made me love them even more.

Both main characters are older and therefore set in their ways and not afraid to share their opinions. Their personalities make for some really fun banter. Following their journey to combat social class issues as they work together to do good in London was such a treat! Don’t miss this one!

This sweet Regency romance features a couple that is older compared to most in the setting, and it was so refreshing. I love how this story brings the whole series back around to what started it – Seth saving Lady Blackmore in book one, and Lady Blackmore taking his daughters under her wing.

My favorite parts have to be the banter between the two characters, as well as the honesty, and the confidence of Charlotte (Lady Blackmore) as she stands up for what she believes in. It is also fun to see the couples from the previous books, like getting to see old friends. There are also a couple of swoony scenes that I adored.

I do think this series is best enjoyed in order, especially the others prior to this one because of much of a culminating experience it is.

“Nonsense is you still standing there like a fool, trying to convince a woman of strength to be something less than she is.” A beautiful romance and friendship but two older couples having a second chance at love, I loved both characters, they're both mature, strong, and confident in overcoming every obstacle and accomplishing any task and seeing it through. A story of friendship, family, and mystery with a little bit of danger. Entertaining- page-turner!

Fantastic read, clean-sweet romance, and well-written, make me smile and even tear up while listening to Charlotte's past story. love seeing Seth and Charlotte find love, they're so awesome individuals. " It was a love built on friendship. It was trust, hope, and pure joy". Delightful read Highly recommended.

This is the perfect ending to the Daughters of Courage series. Sir Seth Mulgrave's daughters are now all married, thanks in large part to Lady Charlotte Blackmore, and he wants nothing more than to return to the country. He doesn't enjoy the London social scene and all the "nonsense" in Society, but he sticks around to help his dear friend Lady Charlotte with a problem she's having or at least he tries to help.

There aren't many regency romances where the main characters are a little older (about 40-50 years old) but I've loved the few I've read and that includes this one. I enjoyed both of the main characters and their interactions with each other. I think one of my favorite parts was when Charlotte and Seth babysat the grandchildren. I loved the scene when Charlotte has had enough of caring what others think of her friendship with Seth and reminds the committee who she is and the power she holds. I love dual point of view and I'm so happy the author used it so the reader sees what Charlotte and Seth are thinking and we don't have to wonder or guess.

Although this is the end of the Daughters of Courage series I feel it works as a standalone. I discovered this author late last year so I haven't yet read the previous books in the series and I was not lost at all, but now I want to read about Seth's daughters and how he formed a friendship with Charlotte. I received a complimentary copy for review. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own.

I think this book was the PERFECT ENDING to a truly wonderful series!

I LOVED this romance. I feel like we are starting to see a trend in romances featuring older main characters finding love again and I am here to tell you that Laura Rollins has perfected that romance trope in The Tenacious Lady Blackmore!

Charlotte and Seth have been such integral parts in the previous 3 books of this series that I love that this author gave them their story. Charlotte's personality has been the perfect antidote to Seth's personality throughout every single book and seeing it in full contrast in their love story was what dreams are made of. I love that Charlotte is a "get out of my way" kind of lady that made waves in all of the right places and for all of the right reasons. Seth is adorable in his support, even when he messes everything up lol. Charlotte and Seth are regency couple goals!

Such an enjoyable read and the perfect cherry on top to this series! I recommend all 4 books!!

Thanks to the author for the copy, all thoughts in this review are my own.

This regency was a whirlwind of romance and mystery solving! I loved Lady Blackmore, she was poised, polished, and down to earth. Her love for her family shone through the pages. Sir Mulgrave was literally a knight sans the armor, and I adored his desire to run from polite society and just live a normal life. But despite his desire to do so, his desire to be around Lady Blackmore was stronger. Rollins really kept me page turning with the mystery regarding Emma, I could not peg down what it was until she revealed it. A great mystery always holds my interest and it was the perfect combination with this friends to lovers trope. Rollins makes reading easy as she beautifully entwines romance, every day life, and navigating polite society all in one story. Regency fans will adore this book. It reads just fine as a standalone if you have not read any others in the series. I received a copy of this book for free; all thoughts and opinions are my own.

This was such a fun read to end the series!

I don't read a lot of romances with older main characters. I don't know why - maybe there aren't many out there? But after reading the first book in this series, I knew that I had to have Seth and Charlotte's story. Every interaction between them was filled with so much chemistry and their book did not disappoint!

Seth is intelligent, kind, and has absolutely no patience for the "nonsense" of society. Charlotte is feisty, compassionate, and doesn't care what society thinks of her and Seth being friends...except it starts to impact a cause that she cares about deeply.

I loved the meetings with all the characters trying to solve the "problem" of Seth and Charlotte's friendships and of course, the ultimate solution ended up being the best one. Loved their sweet moments babysitting and that Seth didn't try to fight Charlotte's battles for her, but trusted in her strength and courage to fight her own but stood by her for support.

Their romance was just as swoony as any story about 20-somethings. Seriously loved it and though I am sad the series is over, the ending was perfection. 4.5 stars

I received a complimentary copy of the book but a positive review was not required.

I was really happy to receive this ARC as it caps off he daughters of courage series and we've been following Charlotte and Seth since the first book. Tenacious is when someone is unwilling to relinquish a position or principle and this well describes Charlotte who is not stubborn per se, simply principled and determined. There's a plot about a girl's asylum she is a patroness for, but really, we know this is a story about Charlotte and Seth. I love, love that this is about two mature adults, we need more stories like this. The friendship here is believable, the unconditional support Seth gives Charlotte is swoon worthy. Can I just say, in the hot male lead category, I contend that Seth outshines any dashing 20 something. That salt and pepper grey at his temples? Yes indeed. And that scene with young Samuel? Adorable. A worthy and satisfying finish to the series.

"He'd wondered several times before how it would feel to hold Charlotte close. Now he knew it felt absolutely perfect."
Lady Charlotte has helped Sir Seth Mulgrave find suitable matches for his daughters and attempted to help him and his family find their way in London society. But alas! London still struggles to accept Seth and when her friendship with him begins to affect her ability to serve the ladies she has a heart to help, they face a new challenge that threatens to tear them apart. Even more intriguing are the feelings they are starting to realize for each other. Will they be able to find a way to be together without it destroying her ability to help those less fortunate?
This was such a lovely story. I enjoyed that both characters were older- it's always fun to find a different spin on a romance and older main characters change the perspective in a wonderful way. Lady Charlotte is kind and brave. Her heart for others was so endearing. Also, getting to see the way Seth saw her made me love her even more. Seth's character was rough around the edges, but the way he loves his family and cares for them and Lady Charlotte was precious. I enjoyed getting to see how they grew through the challenges they faced. This was such a wonderful conclusion to this series and I enjoyed every minute of it!

I really enjoyed this story. I have loved Lady Blackmore from the first book and her interaction with Seth. I am sad that this is the last book in the series but I’m glad that Lady Blackmore and Seth finally get their story. I love how Seth tried so hard to not admit his feeling for her but finally couldn’t do it any more. I love what a great team they are and how they were able to help the orphaned girls. Love this series.

Hooray for Lady Blackmore!

This book was a great romance with a hint of mystery. Lady Blackmore is a patroness for a orphan asylum for girls. When when of their young women comes begging for a new position, and later adamantly refuses one, Lady Blackmore suspects that something is wrong. With Sir Mulgrave at her side they can handle suspicious behavior, old friends, society gossips, and more. This was the perfect conclusion to an amazing series!

#BookRevew: THE TENACIOUS LADY BLACKMORE by Laura Rollins

Lady Charlotte Blackmore has been instrumental in the successful marriages of Sir Seth Mulgrave’s daughters. I liked her strong but loving personality. I liked his kind, no-nonsense and quiet demeanor. I felt in the previous books that there was a brewing romance between them and I have been eagerly anticipating their story. Thank you to the author for granting our wish.

The story started slow but picked up later on. This was a little different from my usual couple since they were well over in their forties and both widowed. Their different personalities and status in life caused them some problems but at the same time attracted them to each other. It was nice that Seth understands Charlotte so well and her need to help the girls. They have great chemistry. I was smiling the whole time during their dance lesson. It was sweet and delightful.

I also enjoyed the interactions with their children. I could feel the love they all shared. It was adorable how children already knew that they cared for each other. Oh, the teething grandchild scene was just so endearing. The epilogue was picture perfect.

Clean regency romance readers will surely enjoy this friends to lovers story. This was a great end to the series. It has been a joy reading each of them.

Good. Generally Speaking. Loved finally hearing their story.

But. How many time did their age have to be mentioned. I get it you both are soooo old. But why dont you just like behave like it and stop caring what others think so much and talking about your emotions more? I mean come on you both are playing this game for quite long enough at least Charlotte and Seth should be very sociable as a successfull buissness man. ??? And the obvious main evil dude. that was like go on ask the girl. and she doesnt tell. ok lets ask her again because we cant figure it out who it must be?. and now she tells.? why?

hmm. yeahh.

maybe i m just getting to cynical for lovestories were emotions arent handled well./logically.

The romance is great and the writing engaging, but I felt the plot on this one was weak. The general premise is that Seth and Charlotte have an unacknowledged attachment to each other (something that has been building throughout the series), but that connection is interfering with Charlotte’s work with the Orphan Asylum she is a patroness of. The asylum committee feels her connection to Seth is an indication that she has lost her good judgment, and though they are happy to take her money, they begin cutting her out of any decision making and speaking ill of her within society.

There are two main components to the plot (outside of the romance), both of which felt forced to me.

1. Lady Blackmore’s rejection by the asylum committee — Her judgment? It doesn’t seem to me her judgment would be in question. Her reputation and standing in Society, sure. Though her title, fortune, age, and widowhood seem sufficient to mute the bulk of any backlash. Society doesn’t seem to have a problem with it, though, just this committee and only in regards to her decision-making. She has been a key financial supporter and decision maker for the Asylum for two decades. It seems highly unlikely the committee would risk her pulling her funds because they think she’s suddenly lost her ‘judgement’.
2. A girl from the asylum, Emma, is reported to have requested a new position but then changed her mind after speaking with Lord Windham at the asylum. Lady Blackmore obsesses over this for most of the book, despite the girl’s assurance that she’s fine and request that she remain where she is. It just seemed unrealistic that such a big deal would be made over one girl and one reported request.

All that said, the romance between Seth and Charlotte is the sweetest. Their relationship is really well done, especially with the build-up over the series. If we had their relationship over a more realistic and compelling plot, it would have certainly made for a favorite of the series… but alas.

Content:
There is no foul language or sex. There is some violence, but it’s not excessive. The romance is limited to a few lightly descriptive kisses. There is no mention of faith or God.

-Dual POV
-Teaching Seth to dance
-Helping orphaned girls
-Helping a teething toddler
-Friends to Lovers
-HEA

I really like Seth’s character. He is determined and intelligent. He is determined to help Charlotte improve her standing with the asylum committee and will do anything for her, including arguing with her and not visiting her (both of which he thinks is nonsense). Seth is easy to relate to as he struggles to find his place in London society. How many times in our lives do we feel, like Seth, that we are never enough?

I love Charlotte’s character as well. She isn’t just a simpering female that needs a man to help her with everything. She is strong, capable and determined to get things done in a timely manner, yet she is also sweet, kind and caring. She is not opposed to help from men, but definity prefers the help of Seth. Charlotte cares a lot for the girls at the asylum and because of the loss of her little girl years ago, she sees the orphaned girls as her own. And yes, Lady Blackmore is indeed tenacious.

I love how Seth and Charlotte work together to help figure out the mystery surrounding a girl previously from the asylum.

This book is the 4th book in the Daughters of Courage series.

I give this Book 4/5 stars. I liked the characters and their relationships. The pacing was a little slow at the beginning but picked up towards the middle.

Thanks to Laura Rollins for the arc. All opinions are my own.

What drew me into this story was the fact that the Hero and Heroine were over 50 years old. You don’t see that often. This is the last book in series. I have not read any of the previous books. It works as a stand alone but I recommend you read the previous books to fill in the gaps a little better. This is my first read by Laura Rollins and won’t be my last. I loved this book. Charlotte is such a strong woman. She knows who she is and what she wants. She gets things done that need to be done. She is an amazing woman and a great mom and grandma. She helps orphaned girls as well. Her relationship with Seth is so wonderful. The chemistry is as if they have been married 30 years instead of just having met recently. Seth is such a great guy. He is brave, caring and protective. He is supportive of Charlotte and helps her with the girls. Being a father of 3 grown girls himself. He is a great father. There are so many warm fuzzy moments between Charlotte and Seth. There is some drama that happens in this book too that helps keep you interested. I highlighted so many passages in this book. I love Charlotte and Seth. Very clean read and I definitely recommend!

I thoroughly enjoyed this sweet regency romance, the concluding book in the Daughters of Courage series.

One of the things I loved most about it was that the main characters are older—40+. They are both widowed with grown children, and they developed a friendship as Lady Charlotte Blackmore helped Sir Seth Mulgrave find good husbands for his daughters. This book begins with their friendship growing into something more. It was a refreshing change to have a love story, full of chemistry and passion, with a more mature couple.

I loved Charlotte and Seth.
She is beautiful, strong, intelligent, kind, compassionate, and is completely dedicated to helping girls at The Asylum for Orphaned Girls.
Seth is a quiet, no-nonsense kind of man, but when the occasion calls for it, he’s not afraid to speak his mind. I loved his admiration for Charlotte and that he gloried in her brilliance, courage, and success, rather than being intimidated by it or expecting her to change like others around her did.

The story is well-paced, nicely developed characters, with several lovely romantic moments, and a mystery to solve. I loved it!

Many thanks to the author for a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.

Mature Love Overcomes Ridiculous Rules

Seth and Charlotte have a history. It’s exciting. Charlotte arranged for Seth to become a knight due to his saving her life. Details can be found in the previous three books in the Daughters of Courage series. Yet this once can stand alone. Both Seth and Charlotte are old enough to be grandparents. Charlotte has guided Seth’s three daughters to find titled husbands who give them comfortable lives. Now Seth plans to return to the countryside. London makes it quite clear that being a knight puts him below Charlotte’s status as a Marchioness. Both of them do not realize they care for each other. Then a crisis occurs at the asylum Charlotte supports. Seth stays to help her solve the mystery. Another special event occurs when Seth helps babysit Charlotte’s grandson who is teething. Since he has raised three daughters, he shares clever methods with Charlotte. There are tender moments like this which help them see how life can be shared. Also, when they work together to save a kidnapped girl, they use their abilities to make a courageous rescue. They overcome strict rules of society in order for their romance to become a priority.

This was such a sweet story and while I haven’t, as of yet, read the rest of this series (I know, shame on me!) I very much liked Seth and Charlotte’s ending. I can’t wait to go through the other books and get to know them from the beginning!

I really like a story with a couple that’s a bit more mature in age. It doesn’t matter how old we are, love is always a possibility! Seth and Charlotte were a great match and I loved how they worked so well together. Planning, rescuing, or taking care of a grandchild, they succeeded together.

I loved both characters! They were intelligent, mature, and had confidence in themselves and who they were. They set about to accomplish a task and saw it through. And it’s clear that family was so very important to each of them. (The wedding breakfast at the end was one of my favorite scenes.)

I very much enjoyed reading Seth and Charlotte’s happily ever after!

You may have read the stories about their children (Daughters of Courage 1-3 and The Dauntless Lady Susan), Seth and Charlotte’s story is the icing on the cake. Seth and Charlotte are mature adults, waiting for their love story. I love the storyline, their mission to be advocates for young orphaned girls, is a perfect way to bring them together. The sweet romance is so much sweeter knowing they have loved before, and will love again. That they are strong, independent and deeply caring individuals, makes them more perfectly matched. I have thoroughly enjoyed every book I have read from this author and I highly recommend this one. It can be read as a standalone, but I would encourage reading them in order as written. You won’t be disappointed.

What a wonderful way to end a series! Most love stories are about young lovers finding love for the first time. This time it was refreshing to read a romantic story of love between two widows trying to navigate their developing feelings for each other and still keep true to themselves. Also, throw in an action packed plot with some touching moments and you get this gem of a story. I was not disappointed with this read and I believe you won't be either.

I am so glad this book was written to cap off the Daughters of Courage series with their Father. Lady Blackmore and the newly appointed Sir Mulgrave have been friends ever since he saved her from highwaymen. But in societies eyes they are not equals. Charlotte (Lady Blackmore) is a Marchioness and Seth was a merchant before he was knighted and made Sir Mulgrave after his daring rescue of the Marchioness. But love doesn't care about societies rules. This is a fun book and perfect way to end the series.

This was a sweet Regency romance and wonderful way to wrap up a fun series.
I liked how the main characters were older, which you don’t see often. Seth and Charlotte were a great match despite their different social standings. I like the bit of mystery surrounding what was happening to Emma. I also enjoyed how Seth and Charlotte had a steady friendship as a base and the way their attraction and romance grew from that.

I really enjoyed this book. It was different from most Regency books I’ve read since it is about an older couple. I thought it was very relatable since my husband and I are now considered an old couple.
I have loved both of these characters from the other books and was glad they got their happy ever after.
I did read the other books in this series I do think you could read this book as a stand-alone. You won’t catch all the references to other books but I think you would be fine…. Although you not be sorry if you read the other books as well. They were all good.

This was a refreshing change from most in this genre because the main characters are older with adult children. It is a bit of a forbidden love trope since Seth is below Charlotte in rank. There were some really sweet moments between them and humor as well. I felt like the subplot took over a bit and wanted a little more of the romance between Charlotte and Seth as I felt like that aspect resolved abruptly.

Sometimes what you love in a story is not just the words, but the feeling.

And sometimes the feelings are so big on the page that I don’t know how to put them into words. And I end up smiling and simply thinking: I like how Laura puts her words together.

I love her words, I love her emotion.

I love that the conflict felt real, like a genuine struggle born naturally from the characters life.

I really adored this story, a perfect ending to a fabulous series.

I liked that this was a story of older folks, just for a change.

I liked just how good the hero was as a person and the heroine a strong, independent woman. I got annoyed with the class and social rank stuff, but I also realize that is true of the times.

Love that we can have our happily ever after in books since I don't believe this would have worked in reality. But that's why we read, right?

Blessings,

What an entertaining story! I enjoyed the mystery intertwined with the slowly-realizing love story. The tidbits of the three daughters and their now-husbands was a fun nod to the first three books of the series. This can be read out of order, but to fully understand the feature relationship, the first three books should be read first.
