Dünyanın Daimon'u
Lord Byron ve çevresindeki romantik edebiyat dünyasının, genç yaşta ölmesine rağmen, en üretken sanatçısı: Percy Bysshe Shelley. Tutkulu romantik ruhu 29 yıl yaşadı fakat birbirinden değerli onlarca başyapıt üretti. Şiirlerindeki felsefi derinliği ile ön plana çıkan ve yine de romantik doğacılığından taviz vermeyen Shelley, toplumun radikal, ilerici ve hareketli bir figürüydü. Dönem için oldukça aşırı bulunan “Ateizmin Gerekliliği” eseriyle Oxford Üniversitesi’nden kovulması sonrasında, seslendiği kitle daima büyüdü ve çağları aşacak eserleriyle birlikte, Romantik dönemin en bilinen figürlerinden biri haline geldi.
Shelley’nin bu uzun felsefi ve tutkulu şiiri “Dünyanın Daimon’u” (Daemon of the World), o çağları aşacak eserlerinden biri olarak kabul edilebilir. Doğacı bir felsefeyi şekillendirdiği, devrimden ziyade evrimi savunduğu ve insani bir erdemin yükselişini tasvir ettiği bu çalışma, Queen Mab (1813) adlı kısa şiirinin derin ve sağlam bir yapıya kavuşturulmuş uzun hali olarak karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Dünyanın Daemon’u, okudukça anlaşılacaktır ki, bir soyut ve sembolik hayaller aleminde insanlığın epik destanıdır.
Özgün metni ile birlikte sunduğumuz bu çalışmayı Su Özbek’in şiirsel bir duyarlılıkla çevirdiğini söyler, Fihrist olarak “Daemon of the World”ü Türkçeye kazandırmaktan duyduğumuz sevinci belirtmek isteriz.

I wanted to see if Mrs. Mary Shelley's husband could write as well as he was supposed to. He really could. I loved that first poem that I just read. I think I may decide to read his complete work this year.
