Don't these boys get it? How many times must they get into trouble before they catch on? Best friends William and Thomas are back at it again with even more action and adventure. The poor community of Itchygooney isn't safe when William has a plan. This time there's an attack drone, a ghostly rocking chair, a slam-dunking wizard, and a UFO. Will these boys ever be stopped? Let's hope not! Back for More is the fourth book in the ongoing I Told You So series of humorous stories shared in short standalone bursts. If they were any longer you couldn't handle it!
Mark Gunning is a children’s author (and retired educator) who believes that the weirdest ideas make the best stories. Based in Niagara Falls, Ontario, he traded in classroom chaos for barking dogs (Chewie and Ozzie) and the daily question, “What’ll the boys do next?” His books—like The Adventures of William and Thomas and the upcoming Itchygooney Mysteries series—mix laugh-out-loud moments with heart, because he knows kids will forgive almost anything… except boring chapters. When he’s not dreaming up mischief for William and Thomas, you’ll find him hiking the Niagara Gorge, playing slo-pitch, or convincing his guitar to hit the right chords. If you spot a swirl in the grass, look twice—it might just be the Mark of the Itchygooney Witch.
Mark Gunning’s book really gets into the minds of a couple of naughty fun-loving kids who apparently have no concept of the ideas of right and wrong. William is the kind of boy that most parents fervently pray their own child doesn’t become whereas youngsters reading this book will probably love his antics. Hopefully, after reading. they won’t try to mimic them. The book is compiled of a few short funny stories featuring William and his friend, Thomas, who narrates the book. In the first story, the two boys want to win a contest and before it even begins they conspire to go to extremes to just be involved in the action. Will everyone survive what turns out to be a hair-raising experience?
The 2nd story involves a ghostly rocking chair. William is so intent on tricking his little brother with it that he even lets him play with his prized LEGOs just to get him out of the way while the planning phase is happening. All seems to be going well for the scare tactic until unintended consequences begin to rapidly occur. Let’s just say, Granny Grunt is not amused.
In the 3rd story, William and Thomas concoct a UFO prank for Mrs. Bumblebutt. . .not her real name. . .but one a boy who was seeking revenge might call someone. This revenge called for a 2 week prank. That’s a lot of pranking and might even be one that takes on a life of its own. This 3rd story was truly “laugh out loud” funny.
William and his band strive for a spot on the Itchygooney Wall of Fame in the 4th story. They want to be known as “The Loudest Band Ever”. Rock Frog – yeah, cool name for a band – plans a concert to show off Williams “Franken-amp” to the neighborhood kids. What could go wrong?
There are 3 more stories in the book that are just as fun and there’s no doubt in my mind your kids will love them all.
The pencil sketch illustrations of William’s secret plans of each escapade look exactly like something pre-teens would draw and they add a touch of authenticity to the book. There are 5 “I Told You So” books so far. I suggest you get them all for your favorite middle-grader.
With all the pranks that Thomas and William pull throughout this adventurous story it will have you rolling with laughter!!! I am these characters. My granddaddy and I both are and were pranksters. I enjoyed the story itself along with the sprinkling of illustrations throughout the story. It gave an awesome visual for what was already in my imagination. Looking forward to more from this author.
This is another book in these series that I have read from this author and I honestly liked the hilarious adventures of William and Thomas. Their adventures reminded me of my kids who are pranksters these days and I could not stop laughing. Families surely need to fill their shelves with books that crack them up. Thomas and Willian get into trouble for Williams's pranks which always end hilariously badly for him and somebody else. His ingenious plan and schemes are simply the funniest adventures of these mischievous boys. Great fun for children five and up
William and his crazy antics had me laughing all through this chapter storybook. I was rooting for poor ole Grandma! A great read for kids. I highly recommend this book.
William also comes up with pranks and they don't always work well. Interesting in the end he also gets pranked back for trying to prank his grandmother.
