"For centuries to come, people will remember her story". Well, I will, that's for sure!
What an amazing book! Cleopatra is a fascinating character/historical figure. The novel is well written, it hooks and you learn a lot with it. Dominic Sandbrook is a great teacher: he has the ability to teach you history without you realising it. As a reader, you just have fun and enjoy. It's at the end of the novel when you realise all that you have learned.
I hope this series is going on!
(By the way, the book has 316 pages, not 208)

No word of a lie, I think Dominic Sandbrook is one of my favourite historical writers of all time. Without a shadow of a doubt! His ability to take dry text and dry history (which can be the case with retellings) to his readers in such a vivid, enjoyable and entertaining way is unrivalled!

I’ve enjoyed every single one of his books that I’ve read so far, starting from Alexander the Great, to world wars and now Cleopatra. Being able to write so effortlessly from what must have been thousands of hours of arduous research is such a skill. And you can always tell how much effort has gone into producing these. And especially as well, with this story where so few remaining historic accounts remain - expert level portrayal.

I really loved this one. It was fab from start to finish and I can never believe how quickly they dwindle. I think I read it in a few days flat and I learn so much from these. The fiction - non fiction mash up makes for such entertaining reading and I’ve made it my mission to read every book he writes from now on because they’re guaranteed enjoyable reads.

‘*‘ Meine Meinung ‘*‘

i loved this book! i am a sucker for learning history and when it's written in such an easy language and wonderful flow, what more can one ask for? despite being a "children's" book this was quite nuanced and well-researched. my only issue is probably that there were quite a few repetitive words and phrases (for example: chilling news, chilled her bones, sent chills down her body) that just threw me off every now and then. but honestly, keeping that aside, i learned more than i ever would have reading your run-of-the-mill historical accounts of cleopatra and it's definitely gonna stick with me much better and longer.

An absolutely fantastic book aimed at 9-12-year-olds but packed with so much history that is vivid and enthralling even for adults. Alexander the Great, the Roman Republic, Julius Caesar, Brutus, Mark Anthony, Cleopatra, and Octavian -- these were all names with shadowy facts that I couldn't really recall. But this book brought all these incredible historical events to life. And the history is legit and well-researched by Dominic Sandbrook, a historian and co-host of The Rest is History podcast. Can't recommend it enough!

That was a first (of many more to come) book of Dominic Sandbrook I have read. And God! What a joy!! I was already a fervours listener to the areas is History podcast, but reading and dwelling into the story is even more fun. And Dominic presents history as a novel, but respecting both the real findings and the hypothetical ones in a way it does not turn the book into an academic thing. Want to read it all

Great book for children. I bought this for my daughter aged 11 and read 20 pages a night until we finished it. She loved it and asked loads of questions from the time period. It is the perfect book for young adults who want to learn about history in the form of a story. Very easy to read and has got her interested in history which enables me to enjoy what she reads too.

loved it so much i love reading ancient history and this was so for me, i hoping to read more of Dominic Sandbrook's books. At the end cleopatra wasn't a villian but just a girl trying to save her dynasty/kingdom all to be defeated and her reign to be over and all her bloodline to end when the last pharoh died (her daughter's son). Would recommend to everyone.

This author is cohost of my favorite history podcast: The Rest is History. Did not know Cleopatra’s daughter and Jesus were contemporaries. Did not know Cleopatra was the last Egyptian pharaoh. Sandbrook calls her the most famous woman in history — a fighter, a survivor, a leader, a legend. Thank you Mr. Sandbrook!
