The only redeeming quality this volume possessed was the final chapter where we get more from Senku's dad and Senku reminisces about his relationship with him. That's it.

And no, I'm not going to continue with the series to see if it "gets better" after this arc. I am well aware that most series have less than stellar arcs, but the difference is that those arcs didn't out right OFFEND me. This one most definitely does, and I wouldn't even want to reread the series if I completed it knowing that I would have to reread this arc. I don't hate myself that much.

For those curious as to why I'm dropping the series after this specific volume, here's a brief itemized explanation:

1. The main villain, the Master, is a horribly one dimensional misogynistic male character that is honestly an insult to male villains. Seriously, it's like Inagaki couldn't think of a better, more nuanced way of writing a misogynistic male villain so he just relied on extreme cliches. Also, all of the males with authority act like misogynistic assholes, which is such an unsubtle way to make the audience hate them and it makes me want to vomit.

2. I don't mind female characters having to switch from being a physical fighter to a spy, I think that makes them more well-rounded, but the fact that the only tomboy has to become a "girly girl" to do so is insulting. This is made even worse because the two people who are giving her the most advice are BOYS. Great way to reinforce the idea that girls have to ask boys/men for advice on how to be more appealing to them, totally not sexist at all!

3. Going off of two, what makes this worse is that this is a series that debuted within the last decade, creators should well past the point of putting such problematic messages in their stories, especially creators for Shounen Jump, the most reputable manga magazine in Japan.

4. And before anyone says, "well, this is for boys! Girls/women aren't the target audience!" you're right on a superficial level, but quite frankly girls/women should be represented properly REGARDLESS of whether their the target audience or not. Target demographics are not an excuse to make any group seem lesser than another.

Those are my thoughts boiled down as concisely as I can. I'm dropping this series, I have no regrets doing so, but if this volume didn't bother you and you want to continue reading, don't let me stop you. Do what you want, but I'm done.

I have a lot to say earlier about how amazing this volume is. But the final chapter stole the spotlight. I was a sobbing wreck after that. I've tweeted, I've created a video story about that particular scene in that last chapter, crying while doing so. It occupied my mind like the masochist person I am. I just couldn't shake Byakuya's death off my mind. I mean, before this chapter, we all know. It's been thousands of years, of course, the geezer is dead. But to see it with my own eyes, and the words he said... and Senku's thoughts. It's a painful punch I gladly yet sobbingly accepted. I love Byakuya's character so much. And I loved him, even more, when I learned that what he was doing until his last breath is still to help Senku revive humanity—and to think that that's what he's been doing for decades. Just how admirable. I'm seriously having a headache from crying, I might have a runny nose when I woke up tomorrow. I just love how emotional this makes me.

BUT HELL YEAAA PLATINUM ACQUIRED (THANKS MY HERO, BYAKUYA) WE GOIN TO DEPETRIFY HUMANITY NOW

1) Quando nel flashback Ryusui salva Suika dalla pietrificazione e Suika fa tesoro di questo diventando l'elemento più utile di tutta la squadra sopravvissuta;
2) Quando Gen interpreta il messaggio in codice che Kohaku ha lasciato alla squadra facendo così capire a Senku che hanno trovato il platino — io ancora qui a pensare dove sarebbero finiti Senku e gli altri se Gen non fosse partito con loro;
3) Il flashback finale con Byakuya ormai anziano che fino all'ultimo non smette di raccogliere materiali che saranno poi importantissimi per la missione di Senku in un futuro lontanissimo. Avevo le lacrime agli occhi e non sto scherzando;
4) “QUESTO GELATO È STATO SCIOLTO DA HYOGA CON IL MOTORE” NON CI POSSO FARE NIENTE, HO RISO TROPPO;

You know not gonna lie fem Senku is kind of hot. Anyways this volume was fun too. Love the little Byakuya bit towards the end, didn’t hit me as hard as the one in 6? (I’m pretty sure it was volume 6) but still it’s very sweet how much faith he had for Senku and how much time he spent to make sure Senku had whatever materials he needed. (Although it is weird to me how sure he was that people could break out of the stone statues, idk but I would assume people would be dead at that point but I’m probably just missing something)

I don't exactly know why i'm losing my interest in this series a bit, maybe because of the fact that a lot of inventions are happening at a breakneck pace or maybe because of the absence of proper antagonist. C'mon, introduce us to that new villain already! The suspense is killing me!!

Soooo, I tried to put this volume on hold and only one library had it. Volumes 14 and 16 got sent to me but 13 never showed up. Turns out something happened to it - either they can't find it, or it was damaged, and now it's not even in the catalog. I ended up signing up for the Shonen Jump Viz app so I could stop waiting on holds (and I can also read One Punch Man, and some other stuff).

Volume 13 was more about getting ready to infiltrate the Treasure Island village and go after the petrification device. Good stuff.

In this volume, Senku and the crew finally find the treasure chest they’ve been searching for, and what’s inside is a big win for the Kingdom of Science. It feels like a well-earned payoff after everything they’ve gone through.

We also get a short but emotional backstory that adds a bit of sadness and depth to the story. It’s a nice balance of excitement and heart.

Overall, a very solid volume that moves things forward while still giving us a moment to reflect and some tears to shed.

3/5 Stars (%62/100)

Compared to the previous chapters, this was definitely much weaker. I didn't like this whole harem stuff and most of the volume was about this harem and infiltration stuff. This island is named the Petrification Kingdom and we learn that it was the place where Senku's dad Byakuya and his friends lived. Their ship or whatever remains of it is also there. The only thing I liked about this volume was the ending where we learn more about Byakuya, his life on the island, and his relationship with Senku.

Why does every scene with Byakuya have to absolutely shatter my heart and leave me in tears?

All I can think about is how, to the very end, he was trying to be the best father he could be for Senku. Even across thousands of years, the dedication he had for his son is so intense it's felt by every character who knows him.

This was such a great volume, as the team gets Kohaku ready for the harem, they come with all sorts of Make up items they can to make her more of a good looking woman and its amazing to see what they whip up in this stone world and they do and also Ginro goes with them, they make some communicating device attached to Kohaku's earrings and then we have them infiltrate it and she finds Soyuz capsule and platinum and they make some quick mobile thing that can collect things from Kohaku like they use it for the letter and later collecting it for Platinum and its a great moment when we learn how Byakuya spent most of his life collecting these rare metals for his son to save in the future, Senku and it was such a great and emotional moment between father and son, both alike. Its wonderful and then we have great moments for Kohaku and Amaryllis and just wow! They may just get the unlimited revival formula now and etch closer to the secret of what happened all those years ago! Fantastic stuff!

I do like that Kohaku is basically a spy in this volume seeing her having to sneak around and seeing Senku and the others working to give her a disguise so no one notices her was also pretty funny. Also funny seeing Ginro on their own trying too help out as much as he can but I am a little tired of seeing his cowardice being played up as it seems a little to repetitive and like with Usopp from One Piece it is getting kind of annoying. The new villains also do not seem much but while I do like their visual design they are just coming off as generic villains which is a shame when compared to Tsukasa and Hyoga.

Little to no conflict. Little to no characterization. It’s almost entirely exposition of various scientific procedures. This is the series’ gimmick and needless to say it’s quite boring. What it most resembles is educational pamphlets for grade schoolers designed to make learning “fun”. Not that there’s any useful information imparted, as it’s all handled in a summary way.

The artist has lost all interest and is recycling character designs.

The only thing this series has going for it at this point is its strong central mystery — what caused the petrification?

It’s a shame because the first couple arcs were pretty good.

Nothing happens 'in a snap,' you big dummy. It takes a lot of patience and hard work...

Dr. Stone excels at emphasizing the importance of hard work in human progress. The closing chapter of this volume is a perfect example of that: Byakuya is such a badass, working his butt for decades only for a few grams of Platinum.

The endgame is laid out as the plot moves towards the revival of the crew and the eventual confrontation with the baddies.

I really wanted this to get unhinged after they took the time to dress up Senku and Gen as ladies, definitely going to be looking for a what-if fanfiction of that.👀 IDK but I thought the Platinum was going to be part of the wedding ring that has the diamond. Devastating that it had to be gathered for decades and every time they show how dedicated his dad was to helping and believing in his son I just sob like a baby 😭

Absolute travesty of a volume, where the plot revolves around dressing up men as women to infiltrate some uber evil harem and have all the women all sexified to make them appealing. Complete garbage, somehow the series keeps topping itself with bad plot after bad plot but for once the plots are very much offensive instead of just stupid.

This cover is the worst. This is a great series for teens with a goofy sense of humor that celebrates and loves science, and I gotta convince people it's not all just horny nonsense. Don't get me wrong. There's a little horny nonsense, but there are way more lovingly rendered shots of machinery than there are of butts.
