'The thinking man's action hero.' - The Times Magazine
'Inspiring survival stories from Aldo Kane, the man behind Tom Hardy, Bear Grylls and Steve Backshall expeditions.' - Trail Magazine
Trained Royal Marines Sniper, world record breaker and extreme TV adventurer, Aldo Kane is known for his ability to navigate and lead through challenging and pressured environments, whether it be abseiling into an erupting volcano in the Democratic Republic of Congo, rowing the Atlantic, getting locked in a bunker for 10 days with zero daylight, leading Steve Backshall into the jungle or being held at gunpoint...
In his debut book, Lessons From The Edge , Aldo will inspire readers with his jaw-dropping stories and show them how to survive and thrive through sheer strength of mind and sharp decision-making. It will reveal how this tough military man was able to cope with suddenly feeling worthless, how he overcame doors literally slamming in his face, how he came to realise that you can't wait for things to happen and instead how he rediscovered his identity and harnessed his emotions to his advantage to find determination, purpose, and a renewed sense of belonging. And how, to use his own words, he became the captain of his own ship.
Aldo is a firm believer that with the right head game, however hard it feels, you can get through anything life throws at you. Lessons From The Edge will inspire readers to find the spirit to do the things in life they've previously been too scared to tackle, build the courage to know that failure isn't the end, and the knowledge that the impossible can be made possible.
Aldo is currently co-presenting The Bridge on Channel 4.
‘And it’s often people who aren’t predicted to achieve much who lead the most extraordinary lives. When almost everyone assumes you’re unexceptional, you can go out on a few limbs, without the risk of letting anyone down. Including yourself’ - Aldo Kane
This is truly an inspiring book! I have always looked up to the author so preordered this book and have really really been looking forward to it, it was worth the wait! Easily one of the best books I have ever read and I have taken so much inspiration and wisdom from it to apply to my own life and adventure’s so Thankyou Aldo! 5 stars!!!!! I enjoyed reading it so much I’m also going to buy the audio book.
Here are some of my favourite inspiring quotes from the book that I have really hit home and I found inspiration and motivation from -
‘’Clothes are just clothes and cars are just cars, however expensive they are. No one has ever been on their death bed and thought ‘I didn’t do much. But at least I owned some lovely trainers’ But people will reflect on the amazing adventures they had, or regret that they didn’t have more’’
“If your head hits the pillow on a Sunday night and your able to say ‘you know what? That was a good week? I managed to cram a lot in’, you’re winning at life. Work our the kind of life you want make a plan, and then put in the graft to get there. There’s no better way to live. Time is running out- make the most of it”
“Most people leave their rudders up and their sails down, because going against the wind is hard work. Going against the wind also takes courage, to do what you know deep down is the right thing for you, even when most people are going in the opposite direction. Without hard work and courage you might end up on the rocks”
I’ve been fascinated by Aldo Kane and the work he does since watching Tigers: Hunting The Traffickers. Aldo has lived a very interesting and inspirational life, and I enjoyed learning more about him and his experiences. Aldo has done a lot of terrifying yet amazing things, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading about things that you don’t often get to see on camera. From his time in the Royal Marines to working with Steve Backshall and Jason Fox, there’s not a single page in this book that didn’t inspire me. This is the first book that’s made me want to get up, go and explore. I definitely recommend this one for anyone who needs a bit of motivation or inspiration. I can’t wait to see what Aldo gets up to next!
great book, really enjoyed it, from page 159 "most people leave their rudders up and their sails down, because going against the wind is hard work. going against the wind also takes courage, to do what you know deep down is the right thing for you, even when most people are going in the opposite direction. without hard work and courage, you might end up in the rock." is the best part of paragraph from the book. this book is must read is are into the adventure and stuffs.
An engaging & enjoyable read that will inspire you to get out into nature; to travel and create experiences; to challenge and push yourself out of your comfort zone... Say no more!!!!

An inspirational and empowering read, giving an honest insight in to the life of a survivor and free spirit, with honesty, humour and feeling. I can just see the fruit bat recruits! Aldo inspires me to overcome obstacles and see what I want, think how much I want it, and what I can do to achieve it, in my case overcome severe osteoarthritis. I highly recommend this book.
I’ve been following Aldo and his story since the beginning of the pandemic and couldn’t wait to get my hands on this book when I heard it was coming out. Took a while for me to find a way to ship it across the pond but it was totally worth it. The stories and lessons written in there are nothing short of extraordinary.
Couldn’t put this book down. What a fulfilling life he’s had already, makes me want to drop everything and go off travelling. A massive thank you for sharing these experiences and showing that you can do anything you put your mind to.
I first heard about Aldo Kane watching the show "Expedition with Steve Backshall". Backshall is such a nice guy, but can sometimes be overly dramatic about risk on the show for effect. Kane is a hard worker and gets done what needs to be done. I enjoyed the read.
An interesting insight into Aldo’s adventures which are incredible but from a personal perspective it seems an existence with a negative impact on partners.
However, full credit for some amazing achievements.
god god god i love aldo kane! such a cool man god i am so in awe of his adventures and experiences! and i learnt so much about him- i feel like he was such an integral part of Steve's expeditions yet i didn't know much about him at all. i didn't love love all the inspirational bits tbh so 4 stars
Aldo comes across as a likeable, honest and honestly impressive human being. He has some really nice stories to tell, and he's humble enough not to force his teachings upon the readers. We can decide for ourselves. Nice and flowy writing, so a good read for sure.
An amazing book. Great structure so easy to read and absolutely fascinating. The lessons that he shares at the end of each chapter are spot on for life. Found it sooo inspirational
Eye opening insight into the world of an adventurer and the hard graft that goes into behind the scenes of 'Nature TV' shows. A very humble man, enjoyed learning more about Aldo.
