FATE SENT US A CURVE-BALL
As a fan of the writing duo of Renee Rose and Vanessa Vale in their Wolf Ranch series, I was excited to see a new series, Two Marks. Once again, these two talented ladies delivered a fantastic story, but one with a nice twist, two shifters who together claim one she-wolf.
“We carried the same scent gene, meaning we claimed one female together, just like all males in our lineage, our pack.”
The story’s plot has two male wolves, a human mate who is a wolf biologist. While Gibson and Ben are off claiming Shelby, their fated mate—Landry is acting Alpha and Wade acting enforcer. They never expected Wade to go to Granger and find her, Caitlyn—the one they have been waiting for—and she is human. Wade will meet her at the local bar with the intent to learn more of her wolf research, but scenting her takes precedents. When she tells him about her research and her plan—to try and trespass on Two Marks pack land, it will have Wade and Landry ready to meet her—punish her and take her back to Wade’s home.
“One hint of her scent, and I knew she was the one. Our mate.”
“This scene was straight out of a fantasy. I was sure it was a porno. Lost scientist meets two ravenous mountain men and gets herself punished and pleasured. They were kinky and dirty, filthy, and yet gentle and cautious. Protective and sweet.”
The story has the good, the bad, and the evil of people. While Wade and Landry never come out and exactly ask Caitlyn what her research with the wolves entail, they instead allow fear of her research opening up trophy hunting on wolves. They will act like they are helping her find wolves to place a tracker in, but that changes quickly to avoid seeing more wolves. So far, two of her tracked wolves have been killed, which has her concerned.
Knowing that Wade and Landry are wolf shifters frightens and intrigues Caitlyn, but then learning that they expect her to stop her research and not write her paper makes her upset. How will the three of them find balance? Will Caitlyn capitulate and willingly submit to Wade and Landry, allowing them to mark her as their mate?
“They won’t ever stop pursuing you,” Shelby said. “They can’t. It’s literally ride or die, if you know what I mean.”
I loved the chemistry between these three; there is no doubt that they feel it. While Caitlyn doesn’t understand at first, she eventually learns that they are mates, but completing the mating, including the bite, comes with challenges. Getting Caitlyn to trust and accept won’t be easy, but anything worth having is worth proving it is the right decision. Even after accepting them—are they willing to accept and trust her? The story has mild spanking scenes, explicit sex scenes, and ménage, with everything being consensual.
“She was driven to the wolves somehow. It had been her goal and the focus of her life. She hadn’t understood it before, but now she did. Perhaps she’d been fated to be here in West Springs, but she was ours.”
