Reject Island

Despicable

Rate this book
High Pack Notice: All rejects must report to Wolfe Island for immediate processing and island assignment.

Since I’m single for life, I’m more than safe from that directive. Or so I thought.

At twenty-seven, I’d given up hope of finding a true mate, which is why I followed my parents on their crazy journey across the country to settle in with a new pack. I didn’t expect to find my mate the second my foot hit the green grass of Pack Ozark’s territory. I also didn’t expect him to reject me when he finds out I’m not pure and untouched.

As he hurls insults at me, all I can think is: screw his rejection. My name is Bellatrix and I’m despicable.

Despicable is a standalone reverse harem romance that is part of the Reject Island shared world, which can be ready in any order. If you don't enjoy rejected mates, cocky shifters, snarky heroines and hot scenes, back away now.

I feel like if you reject someone who wants to reject you.. it should just cancel out the entire rejection and let them live their lives. Just saying.

Despicable introduces you to Trix. She was in the process of moving to a new pack with her family when she ran into her mate. It wasn't love at first sight really because she didn't want him. It just sucks ass that once he found out she wasn't a virgin he rejected her. Not sure why that's a huge deal because we know for damn well he probably wasn't one either.

Again, just saying.

Luckily for her, she went to this weird ass rejected island and found her little harem. So in lots of ways, I consider her the huge winner from this outcome. Sorry Chad.. you suck. Other than her meeting these delicious guys, there's some drama on the island but not a whole lot. Yeah, people are dying and such but I wasn't that invested into the actual murder mystery going on in the background.

In the end, it was cute and easy to read but I feel like not a whole lot happened either. I was happy with the little reunion at the end though.

Ok. So I Loved this FMC so much.
She’s a total wild child and she’s so confident, it’s refreshing as hell.

I will say, I’m not a big fan of seeing main characters with people outside of the other main characters, and we do get that at the very beginning of this book.
BUT.
In this one instance, I sort of understand, and I didn’t really mind. I mean, it did nothing for me. I feel like those kinds of scenes just don’t count in my mind.
This whole book’s premise is that the FMC gets rejected by her mate because she’s ‘despicable’, and ‘impure’, so seeing what caused that reaction was understandable. Unnecessary, in my mind, but understandable.

Then we have the relationships she builds on the island with the other ‘rejects’.
I liked them. But I would’ve really liked more from the MM side of things.
It sort of seemed like an afterthought, since the pacing of their relationships were a little off.

The FMC gets with Creed almost immediately when she gets to the island. Then there’s just a sort of dead period where she has some great flirty banter with the other guys and they all become pretty good friends, but no one makes a move.
It’s almost like Creed and her have a fast burn, and Dax, Ronan, and her have a slow burn.
I would’ve liked it to be a tiny bit more even. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I did really enjoy the book, though.
Again, the FMC’s confidence is just so refreshing and she’s absolutely hilarious with her sarcastic banter.
I loved that the guys can’t help but crack up at her wit.

My first thought is this was a cute read. The book takes place over the course of two months and there is a decent amount of world building however the book feels a bit flat for me. The concept of being rejected, sent to the island and left with nothing held so much promise but things on the island were kind of 🤫 well, boring if you ask me. The rejected shifters are actually dumped on an established island where many rich humans lived before thus leaving mansions up for grabs. Life on the island wasn’t bad or even hard. Apparently there are even supply drops with food and more, turning what should be a banishment into something more like a vacation. Homes come with all the amenities, furnishings and even have solar power. There’s no roughing it here.

One thing I really did love about the book was the heroine. She’s brazen and goes after what she wants. A mate is not something in the cards for her and she’s certainly not looking for one when arriving at a new pack with her parents and sister in tow. Of course her rejection was total bullshit and I loved how she stood up for herself in the face of an asshole aka her mate. Double standards are ridiculous and for her to be cast away for not being a virgin is something she won’t stand for. A moment of what should have been pure bliss turns savage as the heroine tries to claw his eyes out and who can really blame her. Aside from missing her family the heroine adapts to being shunned rather well, hell she takes pretty much everything in stride.

As for the men (3) they were kinda interchangeable to me. I remembered Dax only because he’s the oldest and the heroine likes to remind us of his age. It was just hard to really get a grasp on each of their characters for a book that was not only fairly short but also a standalone. I wouldn’t exactly say it’s instalove but these characters quickly fall into each other and not as quickly fall in love. A side storyline about a murderer on the island held promise but it too just did not work for me. The book just lacked excitement or any type of wow factor. The smidgens of originality sprinkled within didn’t have time to flourish and felt pretty unecessary in the grand scheme of things. All in all a decent read but nothing out of this world.

Trix and her family are moving to joint a new pack. She no sooner gets there and she meets and gets rejected by her mate, sending her to Reject Island. I liked Trix and her guys. The story focuses primarily on their relationship with a background mystery of shifters being murdered on the island. This was a fun, steamy RH stand-alone :)

This was such a cute and easy read

Despite the rejection I love how Trix doesn’t cower from her sexuality. She absolutely owns herself, and i like that about her!

When I tell you that Despicable is flipping amazing. It is.

My dogs are not amused at the octave I screeched out at the plot twist but I'm sure they'll forgive me. Eventually.

"Here's the thing, I know what I should and shouldn't do, but I have a little demon who whispers why the h*ll not all the time, and I have a tendency to listen to the f*cker."

This highlight pretty much sums up Trix and it's the absolute best kind of chaos. She is not the over confident heroine that walks around like nothing can touch her and it was so refreshing because she HURTS. She gets down on herself and fakes a smile not for anyone else but just for herself and I resonated with that.

The men were drool worthy. I mean, you know it's gonna be great when you got a silver fox involved. Daddy Dax is gonna star in all sorts of daydreams for the foreseeable future.

Ronan is so heartbreakingly wonderful. His self worth definitely needed someone like Trix to kick it out.

Creed, or Creep😉, is hilarious. It is a strangely endearing mix that he goes from standoffish jerk to blushing and shy in two point two seconds. I loved it.

Chad.... is a Chad. If you're hoping for a rejected mates redemption then you should look elsewhere because he deserved losing.... Trix😂

Rejected mates is such an amazing trope and it can be done in so many ways that Rory Miles really accentuated in her story. I know Despicable is part of a joint world but I am HERE FOR IT.

Bring on the rejects.

A new pack and finding your mate only to be rejected and then shipped off to a secluded island (Wolfsbane Island) away from your family is how Trix (Bellatrix) starts this book. Where is meets Dax, Creed & Ronan and things change for her. I loved Trix she was the perfect mix of sass, sex appeal, fun and sarcasm. That played off brilliantly with the guys. Great plot twists, a great story and a cracking ending too. I really enjoyed reading this standalone book so much

Torn between a 3.5 and a 4- I enjoyed the characters a lot in this story, but the plot itself and the ‘villain’ were very obvious. I get that it’s a stand-alone and the author likely didn’t want to make it too complicated, but at least one red herring would have been nice. As it is, you don’t even meet potential other suspects so it was just extremely obvious. Other than that, the story was enjoyable and it’s a nice quick read.

This is such a great read! It’s fast paced and full of mystery , thrills and romance! Our female mc Trix is sassy, smart, sexy and snarky and when she gets rejected she is shipped off to Wolfsbane island where she meets Creed, Ronan and Dax and their chemistry is off the charts!! There’s also something bad going on which they have to solve. It’s a fun and steamy read!

good read

I really enjoyed this story. A well written book, with a strong female main character, and the hot guys are so easy going.
As we know she gets rejected, I’m glad she did because the reason behind it was bloody stupid, but the storyline was good add some murder and sexy times and made a good book..

A whodunnit as well as a rejected mate story

This is the last book for me to read in this series. As I’ve mentioned in the other reviews, the books in this series are written by different authors, are each a standalone story, and can be read in any order. While I enjoyed this book, it wasn’t very “meaty.” Don’t get me wrong, it was still a good book, but when I think of some of the other books I’ve given 4 and 5 star ratings, this one wasn’t quite in that same league.

Our FMC, Bellatrix (Trix for short) is considered old for a shifter to not have a mate, fated or otherwise. She’s all of 28 (ha!). But she’s confident in her own skin and makes no apologies for who she is and what she likes . . . Sex. And lots of it. Unfortunately, her dad is an omega wolf and as such he is quite bullied by their current pack. So they’re moving to a new one, where 1 minute after getting out of the car, Trix meets her fated mate. But he smells other men on her and rejects her for not being a virgin. From there, she’s sent to Reject Island where the story truly begins.

I loved her character! She had such a good sense of humor and what really struck me is that she came from a close knit family. No, she’s not damaged. I think many authors can take a lesson here on how to write a good strong female lead without having them devolve into stupid bitchiness. There’s a murder or two in the island and 3 hot males among the very small population there. It is a RH story and I wish we got a little more background on the men; Creed, Ronan and Dax. But there never really seems to be a lot of background on men in RH stories, much to my chagrin.

There is one MMF scene with “sword crossing” so if that’s not your thing you’ll either want to skim that section or pass on the book altogether. All in all, it was a good story with. HEA for our main characters, which is really all I want. I do recommend this series, but if you have other books on your to read list that have a lot of high ratings, I’d probably recommend that you go there first.

So, this book was recommended in a lot of my groups for rejected mates troupe. I read book one of this series, too. I wanted to see how the different authors worked together or how collaboratively the world building is.

The story begins, when Bellatrix and her family moving to another pack. Due, that her father is an omega, and he was treated badly for that, they are constantly in a search for a new start. But barely on Pack Ozark premises, Trix met her fated mate. She didn't bank on that, because with 27 she is too old. And it is believed, that if you didn't meet the fated in young ages (18 - 23 yrs.), than it possibly will never happen. But then she is rejected by him (Chad) and shipped off to Reject Island. This one named Wolfsbane Island. Where she meets Dax, Creed & Ronan. And that's where a lot of things change for her.

I really liked Trix. I liked that she is unapologetically herself. She didn't want to change and is full of sass, sarcasm, fun and showing her sex appeal. The guys fit her in that regard. And the plot is interesting, too. A murderer on the loose in that case. And a lot of good played twists. I liked too, that book one was mentioned in the beginning and the stories are at least loosely related to another.

Some things I didn't like was, that the world building wasn't corresponding. It would have been nice, if the authors had agreed on some joint facts regarding the world. Book one never mentioned anything about someone being Alpha, Beta, Delta or Omega. At least not other than as title for roles in the pack. But not the personality. And the bond rejection effects were different, too. In book one, Legacy was in terrible condition when her fated ex-mate was having sex. Here it seems no one was effected at all. And it isn't explained at all. It isn't dire or anything. I know it's probably due to the fact, that the authors have their own creative process and ideas. And are free to chase them. But I just wished the differences would be explained, so it still fits the world. Like different kind of wolves or anything.

But ok. I really enjoyed the book and satisfied how it played out. I excited about the next books.

This is such a great fun read. It’s not too long but still has plenty of story to it. It’s also nothing too intense. I enjoyed all the main characters, and we got a decent amount of their backstories to understand them and their personalities. The book is about rejected shifters but it also has a murder mystery plot. I also loved that even though they are wolves we don’t see much of them in their wolf form. Made it easier to see how they could have a relationship when they weren’t technically fated mates.

Trix is a wolf who loves to have a fun time. At 27 she is has grown tired of waiting for her fated and wants to live her life and enjoy herself in all ways. After moving to a new pack though she finally meets her mate, Chad and he isn’t too happy she didn’t save herself for him. Can I just say how much I love that his name is Chad? I legit laughed so hard when I read that. If you know, you know. After rejecting Trix for her life choices she is sent to Wolsbain island for rejected shifters. There she meets Creed, Roman, and Dax we friends that have been on the island for a while. She forms a connection with them and their friendship turns into something more steamy. There is a lot more happening at the island though and with an unknown murder on the loose things aren’t safe. Trix and her guys stay close to be safe and not fall as the next victim and feelings start to hatch.

While there are other shifters on the island the only other one we see is Harlow and it’s not too much. I liked that it was mostly Trix and her guys though. There are a few bumps in their journey but I am happy it was instant love and they all have some insecurities over their previous rejections. Overall I enjoyed this book. I liked the different take on finding love and being brought together after being rejected. Definitely recommend it for someone looking for a light, fun read.

I wanted to love this book so badly! ☹️There were all the elements I enjoyed- reverse harem, shifter, age gap (well at least one hero), heroine with love handles and lots of confidence, sex positivity, and some spicyyyyy scenes. 🌶️🌶️🌶️But it just kind of fell flat after reading carnage island.

The heroine is Trix who immediately gets rejected from her fated mate because she isn’t a virgin (Chads such a douche). 😤Which means she’s sent to a rejected mate island. 👀There she encounters Dax, Ronan, and Creed. 🥵All hotties with hearts. Dax is older, Ronan is sweet, and Creed is straight golden retriever energy. 🤌🏼

For the most part Trix is a super enjoyable heroine. 🥰She takes zero shit and is not ashamed of enjoying sex. She’s also sassy and fun. 🫶🏼 however, I just didn’t feel her emotional connection to the heroes. She was rarely vulnerable. She did some emotional caretaking for them, but she didn’t really process Chad’s rejection fully 🥲 which just left me wanting more.

Things I liked:
Multiple pov 🙆‍♂️🙆‍♂️🙆‍♂️🙆‍♀️
Sub plot mystery
Reverse harem
Poly/bi
Spicy scenes were spicing the right way 👏🏼👏🏼
Shifter 🐺
Age gap🤌🏼
Sex positivity
Curvy heroine whose body isn’t the focus of the story 🙌🏼
Banter
Loyal af pack

Things I didn’t like:
Lack of emotional depth/character development🫤
Ending felt rushed 😅
About 60%-82% the story drags (skimmed some here unfortunately)🫠
Not really any love declaration…but why would there be when there’s no emotional connection 😅

Overall, I love the world this author builds. I love her writing. And her take on shifters/RH. I’ll keep reading her, even if this book is only a one time read for me 😬

This was the perfect amount of story, romance, mystery and even pages for an easy read standalone. It was a simple concept, there was a bit of mystery, we had a romance and we had our happy ending/conclusion. It all wrapped up beautifully and I feel like I have no answered questions.

I loved our female main character, she was strong, confident, sassy and she was still humanized. She had feelings but she did her best to overcome what had happened to her. She had accepted her life, took control and, when she did finally find a mate, she thought for herself. Although she did still get sent away, she made the best of her situation and found love. Real love with those she chose, got along with and were a more perfect fit. Maybe that was really was what fate was doing when they chose her a “fated” mate.

The men were different, each distinguishable and I don’t think I can choose a favorite. We didn’t delve too deeply into their psyche, we learned about their past, their rejection and found they cared for our FMC. We didn’t need to know that much more than that for this book and it worked.

To keep the book is interesting, and not just about the romance, there was a little bit of a mystery on the island. Nothing crazy but it kept the book entertaining. Throw in a previous character and it got even better.

This was an easy read, a very simple and cute standalone. I feel like it had a bit of everything: just enough romance, plot, mystery and entertainment.

This was such a fun book! I adore that you can get so many different takes on shifters with how many stories are out there!

Despicable tells the story about Bellatrix. She is a little older than the typical age range wolves find their fated mates, so she was happy to just do her own thing. One day she suddenly finds him, and it goes bad quickly. He rejects her, which means one thing. She must live out her life in seclusion on a remote island dedicated to rejected mates.

Living on the island is not always easy, and the few shifters that are there are a hit or miss on friendliness. But Dax, Creed, and Ronan help her discover that there is more to live for.

A mystery starts to unfold during Trix’s time on the island and lives are at stake. I really enjoyed that mystery/suspense aspect to the story. Figuring out who the bad guy is along with the characters. This is a standalone, so these characters get their HEA by the end of the book.

This book was absolutely incredible! We follow Trix after she gets rejected, and let me just tell you that her mate is not my favorite person at all. Trix is a very strong woman and along the way meets Dax, Creed and Ronan who help her to open up and drop some of her walls. At the same time we get to learn about Dax, Ronan and Creed and all four of them help each other to grow and realize that they can all have some love in their life.

Now with the sexy times and very steamy scenes aside, Trix is on an island where shifters are mysteriously dying yet no one can pin point the killer. Together they keep an eye on the island and try to get the attention of the murders brought up to the higher power. Let me just say that you won't see the killer twist at the end. Over all this was such an exciting and page turner read and Rory does not disappoint!! This is a must read for fans of Rory Miles!

Rory really never disappoints. Trix is smart, sexy, snarky, and fabulous. She believes in enjoying her body and men…there’s nothing wrong with that right ? This is true right up until she meets her fated mate…and he rejects her for the dumbest reason. Is it because they’re incompatible? Nope. It’s because of a dumb reason. Trust me you’ll yell.

She is shipped off to an island for rejected mates…and the fun begins. She’s alone, she has to leave her family, and she’s still reeling from being rejected by a dumb alpha with a dumb name. She meets cute shifters, and decides it must not be too bad…until she realizes that there’s a killer on the loose.

From bad to worse….what’s a girl to do?

I loved this standalone. It’s about second chances, making your own destiny, and I loved every second of it.

This was such an entertaining read! This is a standalone that is quick paced, full of really great characters and plenty of steam, a touch of mystery and mayhem and has a really satisfying ending! The first few pages had me really curious and the next thing I knew, I'd finished the book! I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the concept. OUr female lead is sassy, fun and so full of love and strength! I appreciated the fact that even though this is a rejected mates storyline, it was also about personal growth, these characters had been hurt deeply and yet they kept their heads held high , learned to lean on each other and better themselves . They chose their happiness and it was a beautiful ending! Overall, an awesome well written read that concluded really well , leaving me with a huge grin!

Took me a bit to get into this book. I’ve enjoyed other books set in this world. Trax definitely knows her own mind and I liked the way she handled her rejection. Not enough backstory to really explain why the guys guarded the supplies unless it’s just because Dax is an alpha and needed something to do. I would have liked more interaction with the other residents of the island as that would have brought more meat to the mystery subplot. The guys were fairly interchangeable for me. Dax’s reason for not bonding with his mate was lame as shifters are all supposed to be about their fated mates. The relationship with Dax and Creed didn’t feel overly genuine but more like, her, let’s throw some MM into the plot as people want to read that. Not a bad book but not as good as other books that I’ve read by Miles.

When Bellatrix runs into her fated mate the ass is nothing like she ever wanted. He rejects her because she isn't a virgin and she is promptly shipped off to Reject Island. Trix is smart mouthed wild child and unashamed of being herself. She catches the attention of Creed, Dax, and Ronan and the men bring her into their little island pack. Things aren't all peaceful on the island though. There is a murderer running around and an unexpected and unwelcome addition to the island populous.
Loved Trix and her banter. She was a great character. This book is a fantastic addition to the Reject Island universe. While it can be read as a stand alone it does have a couple of references to events in Shameful in it.

I'm a die hard Rory Miles fan for life. This has been cemented since her Tainted Power series and Shera is the OG baddie.

I loved everything about this standalone. How fierce and sassy Trix is, her love for her family and how far she would go for them, her thoughts on the prehistoric men and how dumb their opinions are, how she refuses to back down because she is a staunch feminist (and we stan a woman with realistic views of the world, especially now) and I LOVED Chad's outcome.

The relationships she creates with her men are believable, if a tad fast but considering this is a standalone and not a series, it's a minor point for me. It's fantasy mixed with real life and something this author does so, so well. They each have their own separate relationship with Trix, as well as pre-existing ones with each other and these tie together beautifully.

For a 67k (ish) word book, it was fast paced without skipping the essential world and character building stuff. Never a dull moment with Rory Miles, that's for sure 😍😍

I loved this book. I have read multiple series by this author and she never disappoints. I love the multiple POV so I get a feel for what all the main characters in the story are feeling. In this standalone, we meet Trix. She is a badass but hides behind her snark and sarcasm. It is how she deals with any strong emotion, but it works for her. She meets 3 amazing guys. Two of them could spend a little less time in their heads, but considering what they have all been through to get to this place it is understandable they could have some trust issues. I definitely did not see the twist near the end coming. There are 2 characters I would love to learn a little more about if the muse ever decided to grace us with their stories. Great book, solid read. Oh yeah, and F@%$ CHAD! :)

Not the worst rejected mate romance I've read since I actually finished the book, but it was nothing to get too excited about either. Most of the plot points were rather contrived, from the suddenness of the FMC Bellatrix getting rejected due to when she found her fated mate, to the insta-lust and relationship development with the men on the reject island.

Sure, there was some temporary resistance due to the men creeping around her originally claimed house, but that decision was quickly discarded. The evil villain and ending for a full HEA was rather neat and non-organic, and while I can see where it left room to build more stories into the world, the story itself didn't stand very well on its own.

A great and unexpected standalone! This author never fails to get me sucked into her books and she always manages to surprise me too.

If you love murder mystery concepts then this book is right up your alley. I love that while this is a rejected mate novel this book contains soo much more than just Trix finding her mates that will accept her. Trix is a sassy, tough and funny FMC you can't help but fall in love with. I loved all of her mates as well especially Daddy Dax! I thoroughly enjoyed the fact that there was more to this book than just Trix finding her rightful mates and the murder mystery just made this book all the more exciting.

This was a well written standalone and was a great cleanser in between my longer and heavier reads.

Despicable was everything I wanted and MORE! If you have read anything by Rory, then you know its going to be filled with humor. I have laughed until I cried with a few of the things that Bellatrix has said. This is part of the Reject Island world and it is rejected mate and reverse harem. I haven't read many rejected mate books, but I LOVE the trope!

Trix is going about her life, doing her. She comes across her mate, who seems to think she isn't worthy and he rejects her. Off to Woflsbane Island, a reject island, where she meets Creed, Ronan and Dax (Daddy Dax 🤤🤤) There is something sinister going on at Wolfsbane Island and it is up to the four of them to solve what is happening.

The chemistry that these four have is incredible. I am here for all the SPICE!! This one is coming out in a couple weeks and if you like a quick, spicy standalone, PICK IT UP!
