Inconvenient Attraction

Rate this book
Undeniable chemistry sets an event planner and her client on a collision course in Zuri Day's steamy new novel introducing The Eddington Heirs.

Their passion is against the rules…
But rules are meant to be broken.

Tech developer Cayden Baker has been blindsided by Avery Gray twice. It seems the stunning event planner who totaled his luxury car is also responsible for planning his elite charity event. And since he's a member of the club where she works, fraternizing is strictly off-limits…though he’s never been one to follow others’ rules. Then Cayden discovers Avery’s involvement in a scandal that upended his life years ago. Will it change everything for them now, too?

Zuri Day

Zuri Day is a hopeful romantic. She believes in happy endings, half-full glasses and dreams coming true. That's why she's thrilled to be a contributing writer to this genre...one of her favorites!

Zuri doesn't remember exactly how old she was when she picked up her first romance novel, but she does remember it was love at first sight. "It was probably a Harlequin," she recalled during a recent interview. "And it thankfully took me away from a fairly dull and routine existence growing up in a small Kansas town."

Things aren't dull and routine anymore. Zuri now resides in Los Angeles with her family and when she isn't writing loves to travel the world, cook vegetarian food, work out, watch sports, attend concerts and theatre and enjoy the simple things in life.

"Many people have given up on love, much less romance," Zuri says. "I'm hoping that somehow, through the love-filled pages of my romance novels, I can ignite the reader's desire to believe again. Because everything is possible, when we believe..."

DNF at 30%. My review is going to sound a lot like this one: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show... – but it encapsulates the strong disconnect I felt from the story and characters.

The cover – which is absolutely gorgeous – intimates curvy girl rep. There are so many comments about dieting, fasting, trying to lose weight, wanting to lose weight, has she lost weight? (he saw her YESTERDAY), etc. that would have turned me off even with a different cover.

As someone who has planned multiple events of various sizes & budgets – a lot of the details were odd. The Society (business fraternity) wants to host their biggest event ever, at a highly sought after venue, and on a holiday weekend so they give it to a *prospective* member with less than 3 months notice. Then Cayden literally invents a charity out of thin air and I can’t figure out who/how all *that* legwork is going to happen. The Society is also supposedly made up of the most elite businessmen in the world. Cayden’s a programmer who is working to launch an interface for some companies but he’s hardly “the best of the best”.

I get brand name dropping to emphasize the wealth of characters, but there was a LOT of it in the story. Especially Cayden’s internal thoughts which were overrun with cars and the fact that every time he described a car he used full make and model. These details are repetitive, bog down the story, and give Cayden self-absorbed vibes…which leads to:

I didn’t like Cayden. He’s hot and cold to her, bordering on verbally abusive at times. He’s rude to those he sees as beneath him. And high-fiving about “getting into panties” is beyond immature.

I was looking forward to this one and bummed it didn’t work out. I’m still going to check out book 2, The Nanny Game, because I love single dad and nanny romances.

DNF at 24%, so no star rating. I'm 40, and even though this is a new release, it feels like something written at least 20 years ago.

- I saw the cover, and was intrigued to get some plus size rep. Not what I was looking for. She thinks that he doesn't recognize her at first because she was thinner before. There are a few weeks of time jump, and she thinks about how she's glad she's been doing intermittent fasting, because now her clothes are looser, she feels prettier, and she's more confident. Good thing, because she's meeting him today for lunch! It's a throw away line, not a health goal or plotline. Not what I want in a plus sized romance. I want a lead who is happy with herself as she is, regardless of body size, not dieting to feel pretty.

- I don't like how they both refuse to get medical care after a car accident and force themselves to work through serious pain, possibly damaging themselves more. They ignore the advice of medical professionals. I understand not having access to healthcare and making do. I've lived that. That is not what this is. They have healthcare, they are both just dummies.

- He thinks a lot about different models of cars and how cool he will look driving them. He thinks about how impressive he will be if he arrives to his charity event in a particularly expensive car. His vibe is very man-child.

- He wants to host a charity event so he can get into a society of charity minded businessmen... but he's organizing the event before he even comes up with a charity. Charity is an afterthought, he's only in it for prestige and to impress. Then, he MAKES UP a charity to donate the proceeds to, leaving it to others to figure out how to implement it. Yeah, it sounds like a great idea, but you are putting the cart before the horse. Setting up charity programs is difficult. He doesn't already have favored causes? I don't like him.

- She thinks he is a criminal who did her friend dirty, but immediately gets over it because he is so attractive. Yikes.

- He's not even on the board of the company he works for. He's just a very good computer programmer. He wouldn't even be in an organization of top businessmen of Chicago, nevermind the world.

- The steam is not steamy. He high-fives his buddy at the idea of "getting into her panties," even though he also thinks about how she's not really physically attractive. She's constantly thinking cliche horny thoughts about him, like offering him "coffee, tea, or ME". It's cringe-y.

I mostly liked her, but I didn't like the guy at all, and I have to like the leads in a romance (We haven't even talked about his anger at the accident scene, where he cared more about his car than the people who were hurt, or his unprofessional attitude when he realizes who Avery is.)

This was not for me.

Cayden Barker is the Eddingtons’ unofficial adopted son, works in the family business and has grown into a successful man with his AI technology. He’s at a point where he has been nominated to be a member of the most exclusive club in the world. As part of his entrance in the club, he has to do a charity golf tournament at the Point’s exclusive country club, where he will have to work alongside Avery Gray, the venue’s new events planner.

Cayden and Avery know each other since high school. As they work through the tournament, sexual attraction increases and love flourishes. However, what will happen when Cayden discovers the secret that lays hidden between them and that it has to do with what happened with him and his ex from high school?

Although the focus of the plot is the main couple and their work is impeccable, it’s the external elements of the story that make the book compelling. Supporting characters, notably Brittany, Lisa (Avery’s sister and Lisa’s best friend, which made Cayden’s ex friends with Avery), Jake, and Lawrence Kincaid (from the Eddingtons’ rival family), provide the drama that needs the story and, incidentally, some of them introduce us to how this series could continue.

The ending is fantastic and adequate but there are a couple of things that are left open. Or is it my wish that the book had an epilogue? The truth is that writing is enjoyable and simple, with its transitions at the right times and good knowledge of the topics. And the reading is fast despite not having a hurried pace. Everything is perfectly in its place, which makes the first installment of The Eddington Heirs the best book this series could have as an introduction.

MY RATING: ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

I loved Avery and Cayden they were the perfect match for one another. Avery and Cayden have history with Avery having a long-time crush on Cayden. The two first meet after a long time doing an accident after that the story takes off from there with Cayden not being able to get Avery off of his mind and neither can she. The make out scene on the dance floor was hot. Nice job Ms. Day and great start to a new series can't wait for the next book in the Eddington series.

Crush, betrayal and love

Cayden and Avery have a long complicated history that gets crazier from their accident. Both have been betrayed before and have trust issues which they must overcome. Great characters. Look forward to the next installment of the Eddington heirs, friends and associates.

Love that was not meant to be...

I would recommend this book for a good love story that shouldn't have happened but did, he was looking for a party venue but found love neither one of them could or wanted love but fate had other plans.

Inconvenient Attraction

The attraction between Cayden Barker and Avery Gray was to strong to be ignored a love Avery wanted to ignore and Cayden said would never happen. But happened it did. Great read!

Inconvenient attraction

I hear enjoyed this story of Avery and another one one of the Eddington boys. Money makes people strange things. There will always people about jealousy and hatred that find it ok to hurt other people, just to feel good.

Loved it from beginning to end.

Avery thought she knew Cayden because of what she had been told. As she came to know him she started to realize maybe she could be wrong. Their attraction to each other is read worthy

Enjoyed the slow build up of this romance. Each wanting the other and afraid to show it. Zurich Day did not disappoint as usual.

Cayden and Avery literally crash into each other in the street, and then again when Cayden finds out Avery is planning his charity event. The chemistry is strong, but Avery can't get involved with the clients and what she thinks she knows about Cayden's past has her questioning everything. But it's pretty hard for both of them to resist.

I liked this. Everything is a little forbidden and the attraction between them is very well written. I love how Cayden wanted to cater to Avery. I hate that she didn't tell him what she knew about his past, or at least ask him what she wanted to know, but there's your miscommunication, lol. The inevitable distance between them tugged at my heart though, and I hate that Avery had a professional setback because of it. But Cayden took care of her, like he was able to do, and they were both able to see the bigger picture. Good read.
