When Corfu’s newest hotelier Abbie Coleman is asked to host a fun-filled creativity retreat for a group of am-dram enthusiasts rehearsing for that year’s pantomime, she pulls out all the stops. With pottery classes, painting sessions, wreath-making and flower-arranging - along with a few meditation sessions from the hotel’s resident fitness guru – she’s hoping that this time her guests’ planned production of Cinderella will not descend into a comedy of errors.
But this is the Hummingbird Hotel, and the words ‘plain-sailing’ and ‘hassle-free’ do not feature in the script. So when a lovingly painted Christmas wreath acquires a few unusually shaped floral additions, and a prized Greek vase is moulded into something a little more risqué, Abbie must once again partner-up with local winery and vineyard owner, the movie-star-handsome Nikos Angelopoulos, to unmask the culprit and ensure the story of the hotel has a happy ending.
Can she turn turmoil into tranquillity? Or will her time on Corfu be over before its begun?
Daisy James loves writing stories with strong heroines and swift-flowing plot-lines. She especially likes to create sunshine-filled settings in exotic locations - the Caribbean, Tuscany, Cornwall, Provence - so she can spend her time envisioning her characters enjoying the fabulous scenery and sampling the local food and drink.
When not scribbling away in her peppermint-and-green summerhouse (garden shed), she spends her time sifting flour and sprinkling sugar and edible glitter. She loves gossiping with friends over a glass of something fizzy or indulging in a spot of afternoon tea - china plates and teacups are a must.
This is the third in the Hummingbird Hotel series and is possibly my favorite. I started the series because they’re set in Corfu, which is on my travel list.
This continues the story of Abbie and Nikos, neighbors on the beautiful island of Corfu. Abbie inherited the Hummingbird Hotel from an aunt she never met and in this book she finally learns secrets from both her mother’s and her aunt’s pasts. Nikos is a famous chef who returned to run his family’s vineyard and winery after his father died unexpectedly. In this story he has an opportunity to choose between returning to his life in Paris as a celebrity chef or trying to save the vineyard, which has struggled since his father’s death.
Abbie and Nikos have become a team, helping each other as Abbie learns to run the hotel and Nikos learns how to manage the vineyard. As always, Abbie’s guests have a series of mishaps that provide a mystery to solve. Felix, the flamboyant yoga instructor, and Rachel, the artist who also works as a not-very-good waitress, provide lots of entertainment as they help solve the mystery.
Together with their neighbors in the little village, Abbie and Nikos make decisions about the future of the vineyard and the hotel. And, Abbie’s best friend from London begins to make decisions about her future, too. As Christmas comes to Corfu they all celebrate what the next year will bring.
When a theatre group come to stay at the Hummingbird Hotel, Abby has made sure everything will run smoothly. But will fate step in to send her plans awry? I had so much fun finding out, and joining Abby and my old friends from the previous books. As usual, Daisy spins a spellbinding yarn, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Happily I can now move on to the next book.
What a wonderfully romantic story. There have been highs and lows, mystery and intrigue, happiness and heartbreak throughout books 1,2 and this one too. I have to say what a fabulous ending. Loved each and every book. I highly recommend Daisy James and The Hummingbird Hotel, please read in order. 5+ stars from me
These are very much "feel good" books. I absolutely do NOT do HEA books. I feel these are a little different. Life has no guarantee. Except death and taxes, of course. A little sunshine is good, however.
