This book legit has me convinced that there's nothing a lemon and some bicarb soda can't fix. On my way to being a true 1950's sustainable housewife now!

I liked the concept of the book, and as expected it’s page after page of bullet-pointed tips aimed towards cleaning and tidying within a reasonable budget.

I’ll admit I got REALLY confused by the language. But then did some quick research and discovered that The Country Women’s Association of Victoria Inc. was founded in 1928. So, I guess the lingo is a little outdated for me because bicarbonate of soda??? Hundreds and thousands?? They’re baking soda and sprinkles respectively

The tips were a little repetitive, but its nice that essentially lemon and baking soda can clean almost anything, both of which I almost always have in my pantry

I am very much on my way to becoming a 1950s housewife now

I found it was equal parts wholesome, and sad, to read. Will definitely try some of the tips, but you won’t catch me putting furniture polish on any personal effects, nor would I want to liberally apply kerosene anywhere in my house! I wish the kids party section wasn’t just about sugar and sweets.

Many, many good hints and tips in here. Today I washed some old mugs with a little bit of bleach and they have been turned from stained has-beens to as-new has-beens. Thanks Country Women's Association!!
This is a really useful reference book that I bought digitally so I can search it whenever I need some motherly advice.

A great little book to dip into with dozens of bullet-pointed tips to keep your household running efficiently and frugally. The chapters are nicely organised into themes.
Just a note: this is an Australian book - bicarbonate of soda and hundreds and thousands are Australian terms.
