Amazing read.
I was hooked on the first page. This was my favorite of this authors books to date. If you are looking for a quick read to take on vacation, this is it. I can’t wait for more.

If you read Courage of Us and saw my review, I’m basically feeling the same way. I love May’s world-building and character development skills. Not that I “like” all her characters, but she develops them really well, in that they feel like real people with feelings, thoughts, and a personality that drives them. So, I’m giving it 3 Stars for May’s writing skills and her ability to build a vibrant, full world. But once again, I feel the premise of the plot was completely unrelatable (to me). From the opening scene, I found Jody weak, whiny, and frustrating. She wanted to be her own person and she knew she was being treated poorly by her family and could have gotten away, but she always chose to be the “victim” and went along with their schemes. Then she only gets a backbone to change her life and go after what she wants once Holt is there and he starts pushing back. So, I had to wonder what would have happened to Jody if she hadn’t met Holt? Would she have stuck with her sister or gotten into even more self-destructive behavior to act out against her perceived cage? I think it’s easy to blame Jilly and Jody’s parents for being mean, neglectful vultures, BUT Jody is a grown woman who can stop the relationships and neglect/abuse at any time. So why hasn’t she? While I appreciate the fact that love can and does change people for the better, when it’s real, I also have to say that people who ONLY grow and change because they have someone “stronger” than them to push and cause the change is called co-dependency. I’m not blaming Jody for wanting a relationship with her family or for getting caught in a rut she hates, but I just didn’t interpret the growth she was supposed to have in this story in the same way I think the author intended it to be viewed. But as I said in my other review, I just may not be May’s target audience. I am totally sure that tons of people will love this story and find themselves relating to Jody and Holt. So don’t discount it because of my review, just because it’s not MY thing doesn’t mean it won’t 100% be yours!

Taking Flight by Brooke May a fabulous five-star read. This is number two in the code of honour series, and I loved it as much as the first, it was so nice to see the other side of the story, it just built more and created this amazing depth to everyone. It could be read as stand-alone, but I would highly recommend that you read them in order, as you do get so much from each story. Brooke May is such a compelling writer, I have enjoyed so many of their stories, but this series has been my favourite as even though I haven’t liked all of the characters but its just made it a much stronger story. Do not miss this amazing series, or this sublime author.

Jody Meadows is a woman to whom singing and music have been her escape from her life in the shadow of her twin sister, but when her sister wants something, she gets it and one fateful day, Jody signs her soul away so that her sister can get what she wants, again. Holt Preston is an Air Force Pilot and has been in the military for years, but now he is starting to feel like he is stuck, he has flown in and out of the front lines and seen more than his fair share while out there, but now he is on leave in Germany and all he wants is to take advantage of the German girls and beer, but this night is going to be something different.
Jody is taking the night off just to let loose and enjoy herself, yes, she has a couple of bodyguards with her, her hair is straightened, her contacts are in and she is dressed in her sisters clothing, but her sister she is not, as she down shot after shot, she loosens up and sings and dances the night away, until someone starts to dance with her. Holt and his friends are in the last bar of the night when he spots a beautiful and sexy woman singing and dancing on the bar, he has no idea who she is, but his friends do. He is so taken with her that he cannot resist trying his luck and approaching her while she dances and this one action starts a chain reaction of passion which neither of them were expecting.
In her shock at what she has done, Jody rushes out of the bar. back to her friends and complains she isn’t feeling well, so they head back to the hotel, but life goes on and the next afternoon amid a hangover from hell, Jody has to marshal her sister around to make sure she gets where she needs to be and at the right time, meanwhile, Holt has woken up not being able to stop thinking about the mystery woman at the bar the night before, to the point that he does everything he can to run into her again, however, when he does, he realises that she isn’t the person he thought, it turns out that it is someone in her entourage instead. At this point it makes it his mission to try and work out the mystery behind the woman and Jody is the woman he is intending on trying to figure out, but will she let him in, or will her sister do her usual thing and put a stop to whatever this could be before it can even start? This is a romance where two people meet and the connection is undeniable, but as external forces engage in the story, the ending is something you will be racing through the book to find.

Hidden in the shadows of her identical twin sister's pursuit of fame and neglected by her family in their pursuit to fulfill her sister's every whim, Jody gets fed up with putting her life on hold while fulfilling a contract to keep her sister's career going.
After meeting Holt, a military pilot, while being mistaken for her famous sister, Jody realizes just how much she wants out of the life she's trapped in to go after her own dreams. Jilly uses and abuses everyone around her like a spoiled brat, ignores fans, and causes everyone around her (especially Jody) to clean up the messes she makes as she acts out. After a mixup in his pursuit of Jody, Holt is maybe the first person to ever refuse Jilly and then stand up to her on Jody's behalf.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and mistakenly read it before the first in the series. It works well as a standalone read, though, and now that I've finished the first book, as well, I find the only addition it really provides to this story is a little more backstory to Holt's childhood friendships with people referenced in this book.
The author does a great job of sucking you into the storyline early on and keeping your interest as the mishaps, mistaken identity and chance meetings weave into a love story that's romantic and heroic without making Jody into a damsel in distress and in need of rescue. This is less relatable than the first book in the series, which I've determined is one of my favorite reads in a while, but mostly because of Jilly's fame, bratty behavior, and everyone around her caving to her every whim without check. Still a really solid story, though, and a recommended read.

I was hoping that Jody would find her way out of her sister's shadow and away from her parents who can't seem to see how they treat her. Holt is a pilot on leave and looking for some fun but he can't seem to get the woman he met out of his head. This is a must read if you want to find out what's going to happen between these two. I recommend reading this book. I can't wait to read the next book in this series.

Rock star, military man, mistaken identity, romance
I absolutely love the rock star romance genre, and this is a fantastic new take on that! I enjoyed the mistaken identity twist.
I really enjoyed the contentious relationship of twins Jody (sometimes called JoJo) and Jilly. I really felt for Jody, always coming in second best to her younger sister, even though Jilly is a conceited, stuck up, snob.
I did’t like Holt when we’re introduced to him in this book. He’s just out on the prowl to get his, but through his interest in Jody he grew on me as we begin to see another side to him.
I enjoyed the “hide and seek” aspect of Holt and Jody getting together and finding themselves with and without their normal surroundings.
My reasoning for 3.5 stars with all the good things described above?: While I thoroughly enjoyed the book, it left me feeling like something was lacking, or that I was unfulfilled, but I can’t determine why or what was missing. I’m really enjoying this series as a whole and think this goes well with book one. I will certainly continue reading as new books come out.

I love that this book gets you hooked right from the beginning and does not disappoint straight to the end. It's a quick read, that'll hold your attention the entire way through. Brooke May did an amazing job with the characters, creating scenarios that fit right in with today's times, and ways of life. I was rooting for Jody to find her freedom from her sister's shadow and to be able to follow her own dreams. This book was such a thrill ride of romance, that I just could not put it down. I love the descriptions that create such an amazing effect on the storyline, I felt like I could reach out and touch everything, I literally was living the wild ride that was going on around me. This was a great second book to the Code of Honor Series, I cannot wait to get started on the next book immediately.

This is the second book in this series which is just as great as the first one. This author has continued to impress me with her writing skills and attention to details that give her stories a realistic feel. This book is no different. I enjoyed this romance story. The characters are written with a lot of heart and really just gave the story life on each page. They are relatable and made the story engaging. This is a fast paced story about Jody and her life in the shadows of her sister until she meets Holt. Will he help her take flight and take a chance of losing everything? What does fate have in store for these two? I enjoyed how their chemistry and attraction was really great. I truly enjoyed this story and it is one of my favorites by this author which I highly recommend.

Jody Meadows is the mastermind behind the hits that her sister performs. While sister os out there in the limelight and becoming famous, Jody is in the shadows wishing for something different. Holt is on leave from the Air Force and hopes to have some fun in Germany. He and Jody just so happen to be in the same bar and when sparks fly they know one night won't be enough. Jody is a mystery to Holt and he has never been more interested in solving one. With all of his friends settling down, has Holt finally found the one? As I have said before in other reviews on this series, the author does a great job of engaging the readers. These books are fast paced but you never feel like the story is lacking in any way. Be ready to get lost in yet another good book in the Code of Honor series.

Brooke May’s second book, Taking Flight in the Code of Honor series is a military romance story that it is so easy to get lost in. Brooke’s characters are written in such a way that you become fully invested in them and so immersed in their lives. Brooke is one of those authors that you see her name and you just have to have the book. Grab a drink and settle in for a while and relax into this sweet story.
Fame isn’t all it’s cracked up to be even if you aren’t the star and Military life can be hard and some down time gave more than they both thought possible. But the one thing they both can agree on is the freedom to fly.

Jody is trying to find her own place in the world but when being overshadowed by her country star sister. When she finally meets Holt, an Air Force Pilot, she finally starts to sense the freedom she’s been looking for. Holt himself feels stuck in a different sense. Years of being in the Air Force and currently stationed in Germany, he is definitely not wanting to miss the opportunity to indulge in Germany’s finest, women and booze! After a chance meeting and rare opportunity of connecting in an unexpected way, but is it a strong enough connection in which they continue eagering towards what they are looking for and towards each other?

Taking Flight by Brooke May is the second book in the Code of Honor series. This is a great story with two fantastic characters that I really fell in love with. I thought they were just right for each other. They had chemistry from the word go and this connection just seemed to keep building.

I loved Patience and Duke's story, so I was so excited to read this one! Holt has such an easy-going vibe to him that I loved from the start. Not looking for anything serious, not thinking that sort of thing was even for him. Then BAM, Jody. Jody though? As much as I loved her, I also wanted to shake her for letting her sister treat her so awful. Jilly was a literal nightmare of a sister, but I was cheering by the end! This is one of those easy, sweet reads that's perfect to curl up with and devour cover to cover.

Holt and Jody have the challenging adventure of a lifetime. Jillian is the spoiled sister of Jody. Her parents have roped Jody into managing her career. Boy, talk about nasty. Jody puts up with so much until she reaches her breaking point. Holt has a one-night stand with Jody and falls for this wonderful woman. Their adventures will have you chuckling all the way through the book. Fun, heartwarming and full of sparks, this is another terrific installment in this series.

So cute! This book is a romance novel to keep in your bookcase for whenever you need a good pick me up. “Taking Flight” is about Holt, a pilot in the Air Force, and how he stumbled upon the woman who changed him. Jody is the band manager for her twin sister, but has a secret of her own. After being kept in the shadows for so long, she needs someone to inspire her to break free and fly. This book is about personal growth, confidence, love, and sacrifice. It has everything an amazing novel needs.

This definitely functions as a standalone but I recommend reading the first book (Courage of Us) first, as the characters in this book are mentioned in the first book and it really just gives you a feel for the town of Centennial, Montana where they were all born and raised.
This book features Jody and Holt. Holt is one of the main group that was introduced in the first group. He was a member of the Air Force and has no plans to settle down. Jody lives in the shadow of her sister who is a famous musician. Jody and Holt happen to meet at a bar and at the first touch they know that one night isn’t going to be enough.
Once again, Brooke may writes amazing characters with amazing chemistry. Their dialogue is absolutely enchanting. I am absolutely loving this series and I cannot wait to see how she continues to develop the city of Centennial and this group of characters! I definitely recommend this series and this book specifically!

I enjoyed book one, but Brooke May took it up a notch with Taking Flight. She did a great job developing the characters and setting the plot for Holt and Jody's story. I was pulled in quickly and can't wait to read the next book involving one of these military men.

This is the second book in the Code Of Honour Series. It was a really enjoyable book. Even though it is part of a series it can be read and enjoyed on its own. I love the characters. The author does an amazing job of making character's you fall in love with. The story itself is fast paced and you can't put it down because you want to find out what happens to the characters.

I really enjoyed this story. I fell so much in love with the first book of this series and hoped there would be more to follow. I was so excited when I saw this I one clicked immediately. This one showed me the other side of the sister/family dynamic. It broke my heart and made me angry, but also made me love Jody that much more. Patience, from the first book became one of my favorite characters ever, and Jody isn't too far behind now. I love this author and this series. I hope it continues and I hope there is more to come from Centennial. I fell in love with this little town in Courage of Us and definitely want more.
This author has a way of grabbing me at page one and doesn't let go till the end making it impossible to put her books down till they are over. I loved the way Jody took control and also researched and ended up where she did, how she did it was awesome, and the outcome was even more amazing. This can be read as a standalone but the characters from book one are mentioned often and I would highly recommend reading them in order just to have all of the stories and they are simply amazing so why not… I can't wait for more of Jody and Holt, Patience and Duke, and also whoever is next. It has also made me want to go back and read book 1 again, so that's the plan.

This one showed me the other side of the sister/family dynamic. It broke my heart and made me angry, but also made me love Jody that much more. Patience, from the first book became one of my favorite characters ever, and Jody isn't too far behind now. I love this author and this series. I hope it continues and I hope there is more to come from Centennial. I fell in love with this little town in Courage of Us and definitely want more.
This author has a way of grabbing me at page one and doesn't let go till the end making it impossible to put her books down till they are over. I loved the way Jody took control and also researched and ended up where she did, how she did it was awesome, and the outcome was even more amazing. This can be read as a standalone but the characters from book one are mentioned often and I would highly recommend reading them in order just to have all of the stories and they are simply amazing so why not… I can't wait for more of Jody and Holt, Patience and Duke, and also whoever is next. It has also made me want to go back and read book 1 again, so that's the plan.

I have lived in the shadow of my sister for far too long, well I want to live my life and be free. Then in walked him and changed my life completely.
Jody is stuck in a carousel going round in circles, she is beholden to her twin sister the country music star, Jilly but Jody has had enough of the constant antics of her sister and wants to just be her. That's when in Germany she meet him, Holt is just what she needs to escape the hamster wheel.
Holt is in a rut of his own, in the Air Force on leave and decided to enjoy the local sites and sample the German ladies, but when he see Jody he knows he needs to help and protect her from the life she is in at the moment, but can he recuse her and let her take flight.
This book was well written and I loved the two main characters of Holt and Jody, the chemistry just popped off the page and was a pleasure to read. I must admit I could have smacked her sister with the tricks and demands she was pushing but how the author wrote a character who took everything in her stride was refreshing. I felt so sorry for Jody and loved the fact that she found Holt and that he was perfect for her.
Although this book is part of a series, it can be read as part of the series or a stand alone story and you would be able to follow perfectly. This is not the first book I have read by this author and certainly will not be the last.

Taking Flight is the 2nd book in the Code of Honor series by Brooke May. Although part of a series, each book can be read as a standalone. I had previously read the first book in this series and a couple of other books by the author so I had expectations of enjoying this book and I’m glad to say that I enjoyed it very much.
Jody Meadows is the twin sister of country sensation Jilly Meadows and has lived I her shadows all of her life, always coming second to her sister. Now she’s had enough of being Jilly’s doormat and is looking for a way out. That way out comes in the form of airman Holt Preston who happens to be stationed in Germany when Jilly is on tour there.
I really loved this story. I adored Jody and wanted to slap her twin sister Jilly on so many occasions. I honestly think that Jody must have the patience of a saint to put up with her theatrics. I also adored Holt. He’s sweet and charming and also rather hot! I love how he wanted the best for Jody and fought for her to better herself.
I was hooked on this story from the very first page and was gripped to the story throughout, right up to the very end. I definitely recommend Taking Flight.

Taking Flight (Code of Honor Book 2) by Brooke May. This is the 2nd book in the Code of Honor Series and I loved it even more than the 1st. Its the story of Jody Meadows whose twin sister is a county sensation Jilly Meadows. Jody has felt like she lives in Jilly's shadow all her life. While Jilly is on tour in Germany Jody meets Holt Preston who is on leave from the Air Force and set on having a good time. Jody is fed up with her sister and looking to be free from her. When Holt mistakes Jody for her sister things heat up between them. When Jody starts falling for Holt and realizes she wants her life back and to try for her own dreams she enlists the help of Holt. Jilly is a super spoiled brat who thinks that she should have whatever she wants whenever she wants it and is not used to being told no so when Holt tells her no and stands up for Jody she is shocked. The second book in the Code of Honor series is just as electric as the first! Brooke May delivers another very well written novel in Taking Flight. Jody’s superstar twin sister Jilly has always been the center of attention for as long as she can remember. On a night where she is pretending to be her sister, she catches the attention of sexy Air Force pilot Holt, who spends the next few days thinking constantly about their memorable evening at the club together. Will a series of chance encounters bring the two of them back together, or does Jilly ruin yet another good thing in Jody’s life?
Brooke May has written yet another novel in which the characters are relatable and the plot is full of twists and turns with some steamy scenes thrown in here and there. It was very easy to read this book quickly. The only reason it took me a few days to finish was because of my busy schedule! I can’t wait to see if there will be more books in the series!

I really enjoyed this read. Jody has always been in her sister's shadow. While out with some friends she meets Holt, but there is a mistaken identity. Jody is completely different from her sister and my heart really went out to what she had to deal with. She has finally had enough and wants to do something for herself.
I have to say I really fell for Hold right along with Jody. There is a moment that he comes to Jody's defense and I loved it.
Will Jody finally achieve her dream? Will she also get a HEA with Holt?

Taking Flight is book two in the Code of Honor series by Brooke May. A connoisseur of intimate, rocky and relatable love stories, Brooke May provided a complex, yet endearing tale of a beautiful love story. Expect the unexpected with this author, as you are blissfully taken on one crazy ride. Her characters are troubled, with Jody having to contend with her sister and all that is involved. Holt is just the man to help her pave her own way. The family dynamic is often difficult, and this one is no different. The author weaves an intricate and attractive tale that will give you many ahhh moments, as well as what the ??? moments. A bit of everything is thrown into Taking Flight, and it is a story that I thoroughly recommend. 4 stars.
