A world-renowned pediatric neurosurgeon, Dr. Noor Rahami, is called upon to join a surgical team of six doctors from around the world to separate less than one-year old conjoined twin girls from Guatemala. The surgery was hosted by the University of Mexico Medical School in Mexico City. Doctor Rahami’s wife, Tajal, was extremely concerned about the safety of her husband since Mexico was second behind India for kidnappings. Tajal had been kidnapped less than four years earlier from her neighbor’s house in Evergreen, Colorado. After Tajal had been briefed on all the security measures the University had put in place, she agreed reluctantly for her husband to join the surgery team. After the surgery, she was contacted by a man demanding ransom for her kidnapped husband. From her research concerning kidnappings in Mexico, she knew there was little the U.S. Government would be able to do.She contacted the lead FBI investigators who had worked on her kidnapping. They too knew there was little to be done through official channels. Using past nongovernment contacts, they solicited help in locating and rescuing the doctor. Again, Jake Littleton, with his warrior brothers, was called upon to hopefully right a wrong since the government’s hands were tied.

Decision: The Jake Littleton Series by Whit Gentry. Too bad this is the final book in the Jake Littleton series, I’ve enjoyed them. Once again the topic is kidnapping. This time there is an interesting twist with the victim. Jake, his two sidekicks, and Joan their very well-connected pilot are tasked with the rescue of a somewhat fragile surgeon. The surgeon’s wife, however, makes up for his fragility with surprising strength. There is also a twist with the kidnappers. Gentry keeps the plot moving forward with twists, turns, and whimsy. I particularly liked the kind-hearted and talented veterinarian. I recommend the book.
This is the final book in the series of four books. I have enjoyed all of them. The characters are interesting, the plot keeps your interest, and there are always a few unexpected twists that surprise the reader. This book brings back some of the characters from the original kidnapping story. That was my favorite of the four, so I liked seeing what happens next. This is supposed to be the final book, but there were enough loose ends that maybe there will be a follow-up story at some point. I hope so.
I thoroughly enjoyed this 4th book I hate to see this series come to an end. I read all the Jack Reacher books and I find this series just as good a read. I wonder what’s next for Gentry.
