When I woke up, filthy, terrified, and in a cage, I knew it was only a matter of time before I'd be dead. But the wolf underground doesn’t waste commodities like that. I was a product, an asset, and I went for big money at auction. My fate was sealed…except fate is tricky and she threw me for a loop. The big, tattooed, terrifying mob doctor they took me to see before releasing me to my owner turned out to be my mate. Too bad he rejected me—hard. At least he smuggled me out of there and freed me from a life of Old Ones know what. It was the least he could do. It took me years to get over the damage caused by his vicious rejection, but I’m stronger now and working with a task force that’s sending me back into the underground to take down the trafficking ring that abducted me. I had no idea he’d still be working for them or what it would do to me to see him again. But I won’t let him stand in the way of my mission. He’s with me or against me—either way, I’m bringing the whole organization down. Fans of Jaymin Eve, Leia Stone, and Tate James will tear into this rejected mates shifter romance. Wolf Shattered is the first book in USA Today Bestselling Author JJ King’s Wolf Underground series. It’s dark, sexy, and violent, and set in her extended wolf world that includes Guardians, Alpha Wolf Academy, and Beta Wolf Academy.
This was a very interesting story with great characters even though Rave wasn’t my fav in the beginning but TG my opinion was changed. I’m so ready for more of The Sullivans.
The pace of this book was both really fast and also slow. Mercy and Rave, our main couple, meet early on in the book but then it takes almost to the halfpoint for them to meet again and while I liked the case/sting operation, I did feel the romance wasn’t as developed as it could’ve been because of this. Also I feel like Rave got off super easy and I needed more groveling from him. He did reject her twice and the second time happened right after they had sex. Mercy should’ve just knocked him on his arse and made him really work for it. But the writing was really good and I did like Mercy and her friends at the casino a lot and they made the reading worth it.
The book does end in a cliffhanger but there is sort of a HFN moment there so it’s satisfying.
Not as dark as i thought it was going to be but the perfect blend of dark, darker and light.
I am head over heels with Rhavien and mercy. The way the bond consumes them both even without the other known is heartbreakingly beautiful and i love that.
I cant believe how easy this book was to read the way it captivated and secuded me even when rave was being a "bad" and mean guy to Mercy.
The journey wow its beautiful.
And eventho Mercy is broken apart she put herself tigether best she could, that not easy but ahe does it and would do anything to bring down those 'bad' guys only to find out the true secret.
Eventho am not a big fan of mafia sortnof books its not a vibe i get from this book eventho Mercy refers to them as mafia it threw me for a loop and confused me a little.
The characters like Mercy, Rhavien, Bebe and even Siobhan i liked them all yes even theean she wolf because they all bring something to it and eventho i wanted to rain hellfire on Siobhan, her character is just mean but important.
Steamy sexy time scale of 1-13 id say 12 almost dragon breath hot. It has the perfect amound of details which i loved!
I was hoping to find a new shifter series to fall in love with but this was definitely not it. The writing is ok though has a lot of mistakes (one notable one is when she thinks she has to be "processional" instead of "professional"). Mercy was a meh character and Rave was crap. There is basically no world building, but I recently saw this is a spin of of a couple of her other series so I guess it shouldn't surprise me. The relationship was also not engaging at all for me - he rejects her, gets her out of the underground sex trade, then they are both just supposed to go about their lives? She sees him again and she's pissed at him, thinks "but the BOND" and has sex with him immediately, he rejects her again, then she's forcibly dragged up to his private floor where thanks to said bond they are perfectly ok with each other and ready to be in love after exchanging a couple words. He does a 180 flip and says he's done fighting their bond to protect her and she's like "oh yeah, I get it, we weren't ready back then but we're great now, you made a good call".
Mercy woke up in a cage with other caged women; she had been kidnapped. She is a wolf shifter kidnapped by mafia members to sell her to the highest bidder. When they grabbed her to clean her up and auction her off, she fought. When she was bought, the doctor she saw was huge and rude. He is her mate~ He rejects her and frees her. Five years later, she is going to work undercover to help bust those involved in the sex trade of wolves. When she starts working, she discovers her mate is part of one of the mafia families she is to bring down. When he recognizes her through her disguise, he does everything he can to get her out of there; but she does not budge. When they finally discover the secrets between one another, more betrayals will occur, a life and death mission will occur, but who will be the sacrifices to make it all happen? A fast-paced action-packed new series that will end in a cliffhanger~
Wolf Shattered: A rejected mate romance is the first book in the Wolf Underground series. The storyline has high drama and could trigger some as it deals with characters who have been raped and been victims of human trafficking. The characters are damaged and to the point of being completely broken, but there is redemption.
I enjoyed this story for its gritty realness and how the characters were unapologetically who there were. J.J. King did a fantastic job with the first book in this series in that she made the storyline and characters compelling and engaging and added a uniqueness you do not see in other rejected mate stories. There is a strength in these characters that you do not usually see in the downtrodden victims of excessive abuse. I can hardly wait to see where the series goes from here!

This is the first book I have read from this author, and I am looking forward to reading more of this series. This is the story of Mercy and Rave. Mercy was abducted one night and sold in the shifter underworld. However, Rave was the doctor looking her over who also happened to be her mate. He let he go but not before rejecting her. 5 years later and Mercy is out for justice to take down the trafficking of women in the shifter underworld. Mercy goes undercover and guess who she eventually runs into? That’s right, her mate, Rave who she now knows is the son of the man she is trying to bring down.
Things are sizzling, there are lies, deceptions, truths, some intense scenes, and lots of darkness. I look forward to reading the next book in this series as it kind of leaves you hanging as to what is going to happen! I LOVED THIS!! This is my first book by this author, and I loved it!! I’ve already preordered book two.
The rejected mate sub-genre is very popular right now, and I loved the way this one was done.
A wolf underground business of selling females is the start of the book. Mercy is caged, lying in filth, then taken and harshly washed, primped and put on display for sale, is the way the book starts off. Once you start reading it’s hard to put down.
Read the book to see how things turn out for Mercy. This is a very different kind of shifter book. You’ll love it!!
XXX! ADULT CONTENT, READER DISCRETION ADVISED. Mercy was a survivor not a victim. The difference? How one reacts, thinks and their perception! After being kidnapped, sexually assulted and sold at auction she was saved by a doctor, her mate. Rave was in denial in order to keep everyone safe. He rejected Mercy and sent her back to her life. Fate brought them back together as enemies. Will they stay that way?
This is the firat book in the wolf underground series. Mercy is a female wolf that was kidnapped out side of a club and taken to an underground auction to be sold to the highest bidder. Rave her maye and doctor rejects her and seta her free. She works hars to try and forget him and sets up to be a an agent to take down the ring. Secrets are learned and more to come.
This book starts SO GOOD and SO SPICY. I was so keen!
But then, there's a 5 year jump, and the pacing just disappears. There's all these complexities that I just couldn't care about. When finally we got to the end, , and so then it finishes really quick too.
I just wanted the promise of the novel that started in the first few chapters. I'm still mourning the loss!
This is not my usual type of reading. It was free so figured I would try it. It was very well written and the Alfa characters we described to the point that I could actually visualize them. The story had a goid plot and carried out well, I might even keep reading to see what happens. Hopefully the bad guys that are actually the good guys , stay that way and get the real creeps that are selling women for money.
I went into this book thinking it was going to be amazing. I’m not sure how this is considered a rejected mates genre because it didn’t really have any shifter to it. It definitely nailed the mafia portion. I almost gave up on this book. It was very slow moving and had a lot of typos. As much as I would love to see how their journey ends I’m afraid to even attempt the next book.
**Trigger Warning** When I started reading this, the beginning was like being thrown into an ice bath. I struggled with Mercy's boring life, although I understand the struggle. And then, bam! We fall into an intriguing yet intense story, with a FMC who really finds her strength
This book destroyed and put me back together but left me wanting more. Mercy is one hell of a wolf and I'm here for her story and everything in between because this book made me angry and a crying mess but also made me a bit happy but also 100000000000% worth the read because this is one hell of a book no one should miss! So go read it!
So much repetition. I really thought this book was going to go in a deeper direction, but it was all very shallow and frankly unbelievable. The timeline was very off kilter and I think some editing would’ve helped. I tried the 2nd in the series and couldn’t get past the first chapter. Nothing felt cohesive about this book or the next.
The story is interesting but rather disconnected. The writing is not enough to sustain the plot the book is going for. You end up losing a lot of depth. This wasn’t a book I could get lost in the way I’d want to. The main hero’s opinion of our heroine is super quick and unjustified which kinda of collapses the point of the book.
So I’ve finished this book…… I really liked the premise but the execution for me was missing and at times I was a little bored! Picked up in last 30% or so and enough that ill be picking up book 2 as soon as it releases!
This book had a lot of potential, unfortunately didn’t really deliver. There wasn’t a lot of depth to it. Mercy was rejected by her mate twice (is he a good guy/bad guy?) But then took him back pretty quick. I skim read it in parts.
Wolf Shattered by J.J King is a Werewolf Shifter x Mafia Romance that follows Mercy and Rave ~ After being abducted and sold into the underworld Mercy is saved by her nameless saviour who also happens to be her mate, after the rejection and abuse she suffered we watch her start to get her revenge and track down those who harmed her. ~ Mercy is a sassy FMC who is struggling to find herself following the trauma she’s endured, taking the path of revenge, does she find what she’s looking for or does she get more than she bargained for? ~ Rave is a Hot, tattooed, Alphahole MMC who rejects his mate in hopes to save her from the path she’s on, does he regret his decision or does his history catch up with him? ~ I loved the merging of the shifter x mafia worlds in this book, I read this in one sitting as I just couldn’t put it down - Can’t wait to pick up book 2 of the Wolf Underground Series!
Really could have used another run through with editors. Some definite issues with consistency (FMC knows something and suddenly she’s wondering do did the thing but she’s always known).
Her relationship w the love interest goes from cold to all in very quickly with no real explanation.
