Hermione Granger constructed a predictable life for herself following the war. However, she realizes that within the constraints of control there is no room for want. In an uncharacteristic move, she flees her life in London to visit Neville, who works as a gardener at the Zabini Estate in Italy. The Estate, now a wellness retreat for elderly witches and wizards, is also the refuge of three of her Slytherin classmates that she has not seen since the war. This is a story of overcoming assumptions, judgmental garden gnomes, flowers, and the quest for contentment.

Maybe 3.5 stars because I really liked the first half.

Hermione has always had her life under control. She's always had a clear path ahead of her, a plan to follow with set goals and clear steps to follow. She went on after the war and remained strong thanks to her steady routine, and after years of living in the security of this routine, she suddenly realizes that she has no idea what she really wants. She has plans and goals, but it's nothing more than a set plan, what is expected of her. It's not what she truly wants and what made her feel alive and thriving. She got used to this sense of security that comes with her routine, to the point where she has violent panic attacks whenever she feels out of control or something breaks her routine. That realization pushed her to leave her home for a well-deserved vacation in Italy, to visit Neville, where she is most surprised to meet his colleagues.

I enjoyed the beginning very much, but the second half dragged on... It got a little repetitive, and I was tempted to skim a few parts. There was good smut though, so there's that at least. 😏

The idea of everyone, Slytherin, Gryffindor, and Ravenclaw, healing together and helping each other through their bad days was lovely. They all work at the Zabini estate, under the leadership of Andromeda, and it seemed like such a fulfilling and peaceful life. The descriptions of the estate were lush and made me wish I could go back to Italy and enjoy the sun and Tuscany-esque vibe.

The romance between Draco and Hermione was cute, well-developed, and with a very realistic progression. I like that they both felt mature, but so insecure at the same time when it came to admitting their feelings and putting themselves in a vulnerable position. On the other hand, I was sadly not really on board with the Neville/Theo pairing for some reason. The author did a good job at developing their adult characters and showing a sweet and strong bond between them, but I just couldn't get behind it for some reason...

Overall, I do not have much to say about this fiction... It's not the best or the most addictive I've read, but it was still entertaining and enjoyable.

Overall it was a nicely written read, although it was a bit too sweet and sappy for my personal taste.

Post War / romance / enemies-to-lovers / cottage core / soft draco / smut

If you are in for a redeemed and super soft Draco this is your story. I recommend this for people who need something nice after reading something really angsty.

Hermione needs to break out from her life in England and finds herself in Italy in the company of Neville, Luna and a couple of Slytherins who show her how to find happiness and contentment.

Draco is already redeemed and he's the one who understands Hermione the most.

The story is well written, at times pretty predictable but still a very nice read.

Some might think Draco is too soft here but I actually quite enjoyed this Draco. He was soft but not too cringy.

He calls Hermione "witch" a lot. I've seen people thinking that's weird. I find it endearing actually. I guess it's because Hermione fought all her life for being acknowledged a a witch. So him calling her witch in a romantic way is pretty poetic to me.

"I think they decided to be happy."

"You are my witch now, Granger.”

“…this thing between you, whatever magic you have found together, is only as strong as your commitment to it. You have to decide what role your relationship plays in your life. Is it the north star that guides every decision you make? Is it something that is weighed equally against the other parts of your life? Is it simply one small piece of the puzzle that makes up who you are?"

“It's not his job to save you. And if he did actually save you, then that's not the kind of thing you can build a life on. ..He came into my life at a time when I was trying to save myself, and he gave me the space, time, and support to do it. I couldn't have done it without him, but in the end, it was me.”

Healing, slow burn, eventual smut, Italian farm setting.
Cute, fluffy, spicy. Loved man bun, denim jeans and white tshirt, gardener Draco.

I love love loved this fic. It gave me ALL the feels. It was SUCH a magical peaceful beautiful setting that had me dreaming I was right there in Italy with the characters. Draco and Hermione were *chefs kiss* I loved seeing a fun loving wild Pansy...she usually gets the short straw. And I also loved how there wasn't really Ron hate. I'll read fics that are...but I don't necessarily love that take. This one was a very mature and realistic look at a relationship that wasn't working and while it wasn't a happy ending for them..it was still closure and pursuit of friendship. After everything they've been through since childhood and beyond, I think that's important to me. But anyway...if you like nature, coffee, love, sun, spice, and stories that show growth and change for the better...read it.

I really enjoyed this fic. It was well written and super cute. I liked Draco's inability to express his feelings verbally so he expressed them with flowers. A friend said that they found Draco's use of "witch" annoying and while I usually am fine with it, it was definitely overused here. It also got a little slow in the middle and I almost put it down but I'm glad I didn't.

I really enjoyed the friendship building and humility in working the land in Italy. It gave this fic character; the setting was highly appropriate.

If you're wondering if I will get tired of reading about Draco and Hermione overcoming obstacles and falling in love the answer is no. I will not. The writing was beautiful, the family was found, and I want to vacation to Italy immediately.

Dramione post-war. Corrupt Ministry. Anti-Slytherin prejudice. Set in Italy great side pairings (very unexpected in some cases). Slow slow burn.

DNF @ 55%. I liked what I read but it was just too slow and way too long😭 If I had more patience I would probably finish it but sadly I don’t. Still love dramione tho 🤭

PGOM Draco in every sense of the word! This fic was slow and sweet and basically the polar opposite to most of the fics I’ve read. I really loved it and it’s definitely such a vibe.

Unbelievably wonderful Dramione that I'm glad I found at the exact precise time that I needed it.

POV: Hermione. With one of the best characterizations of her that I’ve read in a long time. Hermione’s growth in this one was unmatched to those fanfic that lay before me. To watch her along side these outcast Slytherins, trying to discover herself and where she truly fit in her world was an absolute pleasure to read

I’ve been searching months for a fix worthy of 5 stars. This one was it for me. Now in my top 5 favourites.

Thank you so, so much serpent_and_sage. I can not express how much I appreciate you writing this one and sharing it. To say I was moved is an understatement.

-"And gods, I wish more than anything that I could surrender to whatever this is between us without hesitation, but I would be lying if I said that I wasn't terrified to give you the power to break me."

-"I just want to be left alone to live." His low voice commanded everyone's attention while not being overpowering. "As long as I am given peace and privacy, I'll be content."

-"and I have no intention of letting you go until you ask me to."

-"As we've already seen in our lives, the most unexpected things can come out of nowhere and change everything in an instant. What I'm promising to Theo isn't just a blanket commitment to forever, because that would be an impossible promise to make. I'm not committing to something that is going to remain unchanging and fixed. What I'm promising him is to wake up every day and see him with clear eyes, and get to know and love the man that he is on that day. I want to see him continue to grow and change, just as I know and trust that he wants the same for me. We've both transformed since those early nights sneaking around Hogwarts together, but we've continued to find love in each other through those changes. So that's how I see it. I'm committing to show up for him every day for the rest of our lives."

-We insist on permanency, on duration, on continuity, when the only continuity possible, in life as in love, is in growth, in fluidity, in freedom. The only real security is not in owning or possessing, not in demanding or expecting, not in hoping, even. Security in a relationship lies neither in looing back to what was in nostalgia, not forward to what it might be in dread or anticipation, but living in the present relationship and accepting it as it is now.

-"The promises made today and the ties that are bound here greatly strengthen your union and will cross the years and lives of each soul's growth. Do you seek to enter this ceremony?"

-The Hands of the Couple, Traditional Handfasting Prayer, author unknown

-"I hope you know that I'm never going to forgive you for making me fucking cry, Granger."

This Draco has probably been my top 5 out of the now 20 Dramione fics ive read. It also made me want to move to Europe and find some estate and live there and work for my housing. I loved this book and has some amazing quotes.
"“When you love someone, you do not love them all the time in exactly the same way, from moment to moment. It is an impossibility. It is even a lie to pretend to. And yet this is exactly what most of us demand. We have so little faith in the ebb and flow of life, of love and of relationships. We leap at the flow of the tide and resist in the terror of the ebb. We are afraid it will never return. We insist on permanency, on duration, on continuity, when the only continuity possible, in life as in love, is in growth, in fluidity, in freedom. The only real security is not in owning or possessing, not in demanding or expecting, not in hoping, even. Security in a relationship lies neither in looking back to what was in nostalgia, not forward to what it might be in dread or anticipation, but living in the present relationship and accepting it as it is now. "

"That night we talked about music, and the next morning there was a... a daffodil, which means: the sun is always shining when I’m with you.” “That night I asked you why you made me coffee, and earlier that day helped me through another panic attack. The next morning there was a Lily of the Valley. It means trustworthy, or…” “Or what, Granger?” His voice was barely a whisper as he interrupted her stalling speech. “Or ‘you make my life complete,’”

"We get to choose whether or not we live out a story determined by other people.”

During an interview where Hermione is asked how she feels about being rumored to be the up and coming youngest Minister of Magic, she realizes that the life she is living might not be the one she wants. Packing up her stuff as soon as she gets home she sets off for Italy where Neville lives, taking care of the grounds of the Zabini Estate. Upon arriving, Hermione discovers she might be in for more than she bargained for.

Facing unpredictable magic, judgmental and eccentric gnomes, Slytherins, and her own panic attacks - Hermione has 3 months to come to terms with who she was and become the person she really wants to be.

I adored this read. The author takes ships that you thought you knew and gives them a twist you cant help but love. Giving an inside look at what's it like to have panic attacks in unexpected places and how a summer love can turn into something more -- it's a beautiful, cozy romance with new ideas. 10/10

idk, it just didn’t really hit. I got bored at the 30% mark and lwk should have just DNFrd but decided to thug it out for some reason? I’m ranking it 9th out of the 10 dramione fanfics I’ve read this year.

I honestly think the hippie, laid back, jeans wearing, long-haired man-bun, weed smoker Draco was just not the vibe for me. he was just too loose in personality that it made me miss the stuck-up Draco characterizations in the other fics I read.

also HATED the term of endearment Draco used for hermione. he calls her “my witch” and idk I kept reading it as “my bitch” 😭😭😭😭 Most their interactions also honestly felt like those cringe couples you see in public that make u want to scream “is this allowed???” they were too lovey dovey for me. like where’s the banter? the tension? there was more telling than showing if that makes sense too.

4.5 stars. A cute fluff piece with just a little bit of angst. I love the growing that this Hermione did; sometimes you just to put your hands in some dirt.

Some reviews stated that it got a bit slow in the middle but I didn’t feel that way at all. I think it was more accurate to have a time of plateau. I think it’s exactly what the author intended to show Hermione’s contentment. At least, that’s how I feel.

One of the things I LOVED about this story was that there was none of the miscommunication trope. I am not a fan of that trope and this story avoided it beautifully.

The ending was a bit abrupt and I wish we could’ve seen a bit more but it was a nice ending.

First part was AMAZING really i liked all the characters and the interconnection between them, so well written, loved the italy storyline with the casa i though it was so sweet,
I loved Sergio, you can’t change my mind he was the main character of this story, go boy ✨
However, wtf happened in the last 10chapters? Suddenly, draco and hermione were out of their substance, their personalities disappeared, don’t even start me about the return of Hermione in london cause it was 2chapters we could easily erase.
Really sad about how it turns honestly
