I believe this book earns a five-star rating, it is a wonderful biography. The book is so well written and accurate. The storyline is complete and would be a really good place to start for someone who is interested in reading the Little House Series.

My favorite quote is on page 125 when manly comes back from a winter trip explaining how he can't stay away from laura that long. the quote goes, "'He kissed me before all the folks.'" I love that this quote is within the original series as well as in this biography. To me I love the wording in this quote, I love the word 'folks,' to me it shows how far language has changed. It also gives me a sense of being there and watching Almanzo kiss Laura. This also shows me the kind of love Almanzo had for Laura because during this time frame, kissing before marriage was rare,so having Almanzo kiss Laura was a large step in their relationship. It just shows me what love can do to some people.

As someone who has read the Little House series, I found this book to be highly accurate. There was even information that was not in the original Little House book about her parents, this gave me even more insight into the Ingalls's way of life and how hard their life was. This book is a shortened version of the series as it explains Laura's life. It goes even further than the series, explaining Laura's grown-up life on Ricky Ridge Farm. It details the events of her childhood, teenage years, and growing up into a woman. It shows a lot of the challenges and hardships she went through, from grasshopper invasions to harsh winters, to the death of her son, to her house fire, and the illnesses Manly and she suffered. However, it wasn't just the hard times that were explained. Good times such as their wild time on the frontier and the safe times in the Big Woods, her courtship and marriage to Almanzo and the birth of her daughter, as well as her success as a wive, farmer and writer. This was just an overall wonderful summary of the life of Laura.
