Let me just say that I was so incredible distraught by the events of the prior book that I couldn't NOT look ahead to confirm that our boy Bogden was okay. That's one thing I like about these books how if you so choose you could read the chapters out of order, and it doesn't take away from the overall book.
This was a HOT mess. I am sooo angry at those bad ass kids for setting off a chain reaction of tragedy. Mick, I can understand to a point but it was clear he made a poor decision that obviously hurt many others.
Fun Fact- I was listening to Billie Elish's Happier than Ever while reading Bogden's chapter. It really got me in my feels and felt appropriate. Until I read the lyrics and was like oops she sings so beautifully about not being with a guy I thought she was singing about being with him LOL My bad but still it was such a good vibe.
Diego - Dude you are such a douche. Lindsay- Up until now I liked her. She seemed so incredibly innocent and sweet. But she gave me Kimberly Wallace from My Best Friend's Wedding vibes. If you are unfamiliar with the movie go watch it. The airport and the scene where she's in the bridal shop with Julia Roberts. Yup big eyed intensity.
Will, Chanelle, Louise- Group Hug
April- I would seriously go have a drink with you tonight and let you vent it all out. I'm on your side mama. I know I was judgey and didn't like you at first but isn't that how all besties start?
Carol- OMG I screamed. Okay it was like a yelp but it was loud enough that my family asked what was wrong. This entire time I've been so annoyed by her but when everything went down I was so scared.
Jill- Bitchhhhhhhh That's my BEST FRIEND! GO BEST FRIEND!! I adore Jill so much.
Harry- I mean at least you stayed out of trouble. Did they ever say what type of car he was in???
I had to take a break due to my busy schedule this week but I was thrilled to be returning to this exciting series and catching up with some old favourites. Taking place two months after the events in Las Vegas in "20 Minutes in the Desert", we are back in England rejoining everyone in the evening rush hour. This has to be one of the more exciting books in the series as rush hour becomes murder on the motorway.
Jelena is on her way to the rehabilitation place Bogdan is currently in, jetsetting her way in her impulsive buy - a bright yellow Lamborghini. Not entirely practical and definitely not so on our roads with the amount of potholes we have. But hey - live and let live!
Harry is still causing a bit of trouble, but not too much this time round. Just pure clumsiness. You can't help but love cheeky Harry.
I felt for Lizzy in light of the events of the last book, but she keeps on keeping on.
Valentin. I got Christopher Worrell vibes when reading his chapter pondering why couldn't he get caught up in the motorway madness? If you're not from Australia and familiar with Worrell, he was one of Australia's most prolific serial killers in the 70s in South Australia where he abducted, tortured, raped and killed seven girls with his partner in a short amount of time. His rampage stopped when he was killed in a car accident in Truro (South Australia). But at 13 books in, I know his time will come. I'm hanging on and waiting for that time.
How ironic that the very killer Paula and her team have been hunting is on the same road at the same time, probably passing each other. Both are on the opposite side to the massive pile up they are witnessing from their side of the road.
April. OK...mediums? Really? I know she wants to get to the bottom of who killed her bestie but mediums? After her encounter with the one in Las Vegas who gave her the name Valentin, the police are going to laugh her out of the station if she goes to them with that.
And Bogdan is sitting in his wheelchair at the rehab facility eagerly awaiting Jelena's arrival. But she's late, which is not like her. Has something happened to her?
Yay! Will and Chantelle! And of course Louise. Group hug!
I don't know how many times I shake my head at Lindsey for her naivety. After Las Vegas and now seeing her question Diego's late nights and disappearances, she still fell for his charm and believed his every word.
Diego? I was so hoping he would get his comeuppance. If not in the accident, when they were pulled from the car at the last minute and he saw who their rescuer was. I'm like...yes! PLEASE!
The rest of this shambolic mess and the cause of are two 12 year olds from the nearby council estate, Shane and Gaz. Each daring the other to see how much carnage they could create from the bridge. And Mick? Well, not the best choice to have made but as long haul lorry driver he should have listened to his body and stopped. He knew the risks. A few other returning characters and a couple of other new faces round off this exciting installment which was a race to the finish and I devoured in a sitting. One of my favourites of the series!
Summing up - we have stupid children, motorway madness and a trail of devastation. But in the midst of it all, we get a couple of wedding proposals coupled with the one already in the works I guess we're all going to a wedding next!!
Whew. After the killing some many characters in the last book, I knew Hurst would need to rebuild the cast somehow And introduced people that didn’t serve the plot at all. And sure enough, the early chapters were full of new faces. One character seriously goes on and on about her love of motorcycles and riding them. And when she’s not riding on one. She’s dreaming about it. WHAT?! Lol but once that brick hit the windshield? The chaos kicked in.
This book captures the domino effect of a single reckless act and how it ripples through so many lives. It starts slow but spirals into chaos in true Hurst fashion. And somehow, amidst all the injuries, explosions, affairs, ghost signs, and nervous breakdowns, there’s still heart.
April pulling over because of a gut feeling from the other side? Diego gagged because his side chick saved his fiancée’s life? Louise yelling from a limo sunroof? And then Hurst swooped in at the end with the ultimate comfort chapter: Bogdan proposing to Jelena. My heart. We needed that. And Will proposed to Chantelle, too!! I love it. But after Vegas I realize now that none of these characters are safe.
No big twists this time, just a high-stakes, emotionally charged chain reaction that reminded me why I keep coming back to this series
The first book in the series that I've actually rated as 5 stars. I don't know if Daniel finally got a proof-reader, but I don't recall any mistakes that took me out of the immersion in this one, unlike the other books. Also, the whole book and premise absolutely gripped me (except for Pauline. Sorry but what was the point of her chapter other than saying she's finally had a break? Again, other books in the 20 Minutes series have had more filler chapters than just the 1 - and they are usually just filler characters that are a one-shot like the DJ in one of the earlier books - so I forgive her appearance as she's a returning character). The horror really built up as it went along. I really wanted the horrible kids to get caught. I wonder if they will return for any comeuppance.
WOW I really enjoyed 20 Minutes On The Road book 13 by Daniel Hurst a series of interconnected short stories. Events take place two months after 20 Minutes In The Desert.
Our characters old and new start their journey on a very busy motorway in England and because of the devilish behaviour of two boys above this motorway our characters are in for the ride of their lives in more ways than one when their actions start a domino effect.
Among the havoc marriage proposals are in the air for some of our beloved characters as some survive and others do not.
I really enjoyed this one but found it a bit slower than the others, with longer explanations which I thought were a bit long-winded at times. As before I loved the way everyone's paths intertwine and how everybody's lives seem to connect in some way or other. The ending was a bit too abrupt for my liking, but with the promise of more to come next month I am excited to see what happens next.
Book 13 in the fabulous 20-minute series by Hurst. 20 people, some characters from previous books in series, and others new, have their lives upended on an English motorway. In just 20 minutes some will live and some will die. What a series - been reading these books for the past week and just can’t stop!
Another brilliant read by Daniel Hurst. This series of 20 Minutes just gets better and better. The characters are very real as you read their stories. You can see them and hear their voices. Give these highly entertaining books a read and you'll get hooked.
It's a very active series these 20 minutes to. I highly recommend this series. Not g more can I say than I have not already said in my other reviews already they are a must read
20 Minutes on the Road sees some motorway madness cause devastation and close calls for the characters in the series but also happiness in other events. The addiction continues for this reader, on with the next book.
It's playing out well now. Although, I was sad to read Joe's fate. I was hoping he'd be a little tougher than he was toward the end. Spilling his guts to Valentin's was shameful. The amount of characters to have murdered someone sure is racking up. It's wild.
Another excellent installment in the 20 minutes series. Like the previous one, this book has a darker edge, but is still a very good read. Highly recommended.
Brilliant VERY pleased fast paced storey unfolds drawing you in.marvellous plot believable characters first-class plot storey just gets better and better
This book and the series is real snapshot of people lives and has had me booked from book 1 and am now on book fourteen and have loved everyone of them
Oh wow. What an exciting read this book was. It all happened so quickly. This series just keeps getting better. The characters feel so real now that I feel I know them personally. Stupid children, motorway chaos and devastation all happen so quickly. But in the madness and sadness, we get a couple of wedding proposals. Guess I'm going to a wedding next.
This was another interesting way of doing the 20 minute series. I thought with the setting it was going to be a bit samey (there are only so many ways you can describe a car crash) but the author managed to get 20 unique views and scenarios across very easily! Really enjoyed it, and couldn’t wait to get onto the next one in the series!
A bit slower than the other books in the series but still with the fun charcaters I have done to expect in Daniel Hursts books. The new character 8ntroduced were compelling for the most part and I did enjoy the development of those returning charcaters throughout the book.
