The end of an era begins—but three young men refuse to fall victim to the Second Civil War.
Gideon Hochberg has lost everything—except two thieving friends and his dog. When the nation’s strongest gang lord shows interest in their street skills and mercenary-like abilities, they take the chance they’ve fought for and join Johnston’s ranks.
But the USA is under martial law after war breaks out over constitutional rights, and the three men must decide why they’re fighting, and who they can trust. As they face death and struggle to learn the ropes of the new world they have to conquer, one thing remains steadfast: each other.
If you love post-apocalyptic thrillers and want a fast-paced and gritty adventure, grab Paradise Lost and dive into a falling nation.

I DID IT! I GOT MYSELF REALLY EXCITED FOR THE INFIDEL BOOKS! Agh, this is a series I have been wanting to read for a while, but it's not my usual genre. The books are military-ish books set a couple years in the future during the second Civil War. I am not drawn toward military books. War and fighting are not at all in my interest. Angela R Watts does this amazingly, though, as I knew she would. She has a cast of characters I now really care about, and an intriguing story that could play out really well. So I will have to read The Divided Nation sooner than I intended. I want to jump back into this world. I am glad that this novella worked out for me. I highly recommend. It's dark and gritty, with a thread of hope through the whole thing. It's such a good story.
As good as I expected... It just took longer than expected to read.
Content: violence, murder, mentions of rape, language, and such however it comes from un-Saved characters and was true to the story and was cleanly done.
It was fun to learn a little about Gideon and Alex before the events of The Divided Nation! I think I could have enjoyed this prequel more if the story weren't as focused on a certain character I don't care for, and there were also a couple of very dark moments. But, I mean...I couldn't turn down the chance to see more Gideon and Alex. 🤷
I am at the beginning.. and i hope i will read it to the end.
I dont like it when i have to reread something to make sure i got it right.. so when already in the first few pages i find a mistake, should i read on?
G. and P. on a Job / Deal that goes wrong - A. is waiting outside in one of the two cars and after they are done they drive first to their place with both cars, A. steps out of the car to go inside and G. will be on the way to his Boss together with P. who joined his car at their place: NOW P. asked G. how the Job / Deal went and got the response that he maybe might just be angry at as why he couldn't nave been there with them.
Helloooo... HE WAS THERE .. WASN'T HE?!
Maybe someone can drop a line if that continued further into the read
------------- Further down the road:
P. and P. lives with their uncle - na.. not a likeable one. Now, one night later the book says: their DAD !? ---------------- ..to continuine
When you begin to read her novels it is as if she is spinning a beautiful web and you are caught in the middle. She spins that web and you have a front row seat to see those characters develop and mature. You watch their lives and it is if you are right there able to talk to them but no they do not hear you, you are the audience to the lives they live. This is a brilliant read! It pulled me in from beginning to end and held my attention. The world building is detailed and imaginative. This novel has strong, well developed characters and an interesting story line that keeps you turning the pages. I recommend this novel and would read more novels by this author. I gave this honest, voluntary review after being given a free copy of the novel.
Excellent prequel novella about the beginning of the war. I recommend reading at least The Divided Nation first, so you get some idea of who the characters are, but before reading The Mercenary's Deception.
I have been looking at this series for a while now and I'm glad I dove in. The book is dark, gritty, and dangerous ... all things I love. I am adding the rest of the books to my reading list for sure!
