Depression, loneliness, and sadness can strike at even the best of times. I was a happy ex-Buddhist monk until a cheating spouse and an ugly divorce broke me. I’m not your standard monk/ spiritual guy and I’m for sure NOT your guru.
If spiritual teachers were lovers, I’m the guy who always needs two hands and five minutes to undo the bra.

I’ll get you there but the “way” might be a bit unconventional. But, if you are here, that’s what you’re looking for right?

What I am is someone also struggling along my path figuring it out each day and using the principles I’ve picked up as “the worst buddhist” to find peace and freedom within. And, I’m damn good at sharing my joy, child-likeness, and geeky outlook to help others brighten their lives too.

I’m a Marine Veteran, a chronic martial arts student, an athlete, a comic book nerd, a father, an author, a homeless advocate, a community volunteer, a Zen monk, a yo-yo master (maybe a bit obsessed), and a lot in between.

Most likely what you are experiencing I’ve been there too.

Review in Collaboration with @hallerbos_books. The Happiness Program by Darren Lamb Book Review: Happiness is the key towards your successful living. Sometimes a point arrives is all of our lives where we think of giving up, we say enough is enough, I can't take any more, I just need to die. That is what Suicide is and this is very different to the American Idea of Work More to Achieve more. Though, this sensation is uniquely same to all of us, but the reasons for which one tries to commit a suicide are really really different. I too faced with this dillema whether to live or die at such an age just like our author too once thought of doing. Sometimes, life brings us into such paradoxes that we are left with nothing, we become so frustrated by especially the betrayals that we receive from our fate or our loving ones that we decide to end it all. This case of suicide through depression occurs mostly in Japan due to stresses of overwork and the pressures and burdens of never being able to fulfill ones desires, needs or love as the author has shared with us. But, this is definitely not a solution. We cannot run away from a single life that we have and that's what the author throughout the book has mostly tried to make us understand. This maybe an extreme step that a human brain thoughts to take but before that man changes their lifestyle, eats junk, drinks way too much, sleeps a lot and starts of self abuse oneself but here the author has said the most relevant point which most books will never say us, that is embrace the suffering. It may sound way too much intimidating but according to the author which I too realised after I completed this book is that life has two sides to it pain and pleasure. We brood and start of compare why there is more pain than more pleasure in our lives and here lies the biggest mistake. Do not compare yourself. If we praise someone else, and this point has been explained by the author in the metaphor of the gym where we sweat out. If a fat man is being praised for his efforts to fitness is praised and being shown kindness then we too must do that to us, see ourselves in the mirror and stop being miserable. The most brilliant justification by the author that soothed me the most is that maybe there is pain because that helps our brain to work and achieve things, we wake up in the morning to the alarm clock, do things, make wrongs right otherwise we might would have just lazyed around! The most important aspect of this book is that being a Buddhist monk, the author has explained everything from the perspectives of Buddhism and from there I have gathered that nothing can be more enlightening that this religion in itself, the teachings of Buddha where the anecdotes given by him creates magic in real life if applied correctly at certain trajectories in life whether that be in learning a any form of martial arts training or while doing a meditation. Have you ever thought of helping an homeless? Yes, you heard it right. According to the author, homelessness is the most pestering issue that ravages America. So, he started taking initiatives to help homeless people and from their he changed only to positivity. So, if you want to walk towards positivity and want to stay with positive people in a positive zone, start helping people. As I have believed, you too will do so that it helps. Also, I don't need to say that eating good food, a balanced diet definitely will lead you towards the Happiness mood or program that you are looking forward to. So, stop starving yourself and as the author says may the routine, a planned chart which will be the 13 weeks journal where you will do every purposeful thing, walk an extra mile towards joy and that should include properly, measured food. Therefore, think before you commit suicide as that destroys families and rebuild or reinvigorate your inner Zen to set target towards whatever you want to achieve, be motivated to the goal and make your choice wisely to achieve your ultimates in life. What is a Zen? To know, you need to need this ultimate best book of the moment. I will definitely say this book is actually good and meaningful, that book which we search for in every work of motivational non- fictions. The most miraculous part that I loved in this book is the varied examples of Athletes in various situations, circumstances, postures and zones especially in exercise practice routine. The author has told us to imagine them to be ultimately perfect and only if necessary provide ourselves with certain respites. The book has used the concepts of the middle- path of Buddhism in the most uniquest and tactful way possible. We may safely now say that we have found the book that we have so long searching for and so, all must read it.

About the book
'The happiness program' by Darren Lamb is a thoughtful book based on the steps he took to get out from his depression and live a normal happy life again. He consider himself to be ' The worst Buddhist' because being calm and having clarity and a sense of peace have never come easily for him. He fell in love with a girl and married her. But somehow over the year he realized his wife was not so much into the relationship neither with him nor with their daughter. Another woman came in his life but she was quite disappointed with his monk work. So he decided to quit monk journey and marry her. But then something very disastrous and disturbing incident took place in his life that turned Darren's life upside down. It made him totally depressed and started hating humans. He isolated himself and got himself into ill practices that was indirectly ruining his life.
But for how long he would let himself suffer?
He decided to use his 50th birthday as a launching pad into life.
The journey of him being cheerful, productive and kind again is mentioned in this book that is also going to influence and help others too.

Review
This is a must read book.
Each and every page in this book is filled with some wisdom. He has given advices regarding all aspects of life be it love life, career, fitness. This book is not less than a magic and it takes a hell lot of guts to go through depression, being fine again and write down a book.
He discussed very beautifully everything he mentioned in this book with concepts and example. Importance of prayer in daily life. God obviously not going to give us anything directly but he will surely show us the right path and right source.
We actually can achieve anything we want with hardwork, right attitude and commitment . But somehow our mind become less mindful.Vague goals are going to give us vague results. We don't actually feel the potential that we have because of the limitations put by ourselves. The clearer we are about what we want, the more likely we are to get it.
In this book he speaks about 13 weeks training through journaling to achieve the realistic goals and to see the transformation that is going to happen. The goal is to stay happy with a balance in life.
Author has penned down the book with a practical approach. Some of the statements and quotes given by him is very much thought provoking and intriguing. The language is easy and I finished reading this book within three sittings. The title goes perfectly with the contents of the book and the cover is also pretty.

The Happiness Program by Darren Lamb!

Blurb-
Depression, loneliness, and sadness can strike at even the best of times. I was a happy ex-Buddhist monk until a cheating spouse and an ugly divorce broke me. I became suicidal, and I seriously considered murder. The pain consumed me completely. I hated who I had become and decided to take some steps to get my life and my happiness back.
Those steps became The Happiness Program.
With an easy to follow guideline, combined with lots of humor and loving kindness, this book will bring a smile to your face and some love into your heart.
Even the best of self-help plans will fail unless you have the courage and determination to take that initial step of choosing something better. This book will gently (and not so gently) nudge you out of your comfort zone and motivate you to action.
Using the mental health techniques I learned as a monk and combining them with the discipline and drive I learned as a US Marine, this book will take you by the hand, and help you bring more happiness into your life.

My review-
This book has just 12 chapters but somehow the words in it have affected me for the better. It tells the tale of the authors journey from his depression to finding his happiness.

Depression is quite the trouble, because in depression only the person facing it can bring themselves out of it. No matter how many people are around, no matter how they try to help it's only you who can help yourself. So taking this thought into consideration the author uses all his knowledge that he has gathered in his lifetime to try and get himself out of this so called depression. And since it worked so wonderfully for him, the author has written down what has worked for him.

This book focuses on weight balance, physical activity, meditation, mental health, and also the importance of believing in oneself.

All in all, this is one great self help book that I suggest everyone to read.

The Happiness Program is a simple, straightforward guide designed by Darren Lamb to push people out of their comfort zones and help them achieve things they really want.

He is a former Marine and a veteran of the Gulf War. This 13 week guide was influenced by his divorce trauma. He has spoken in the book about his transformation from a fun, loving Buddhist to a complete maniac and depressed person.

The details he mentions makes us relate to him not in totality maybe, but in some aspect of how some incidents in our life can completely change our entire nature. This entire book for me was relatable in so many ways, and this was maybe one of the reasons i could easily complete this even though not being a major fan of this genre.

Darren has spoken about his depressed days where nobody around him could realise the pain he was suffering through, and how he managed to completely pull himself out of it on his own. He instilled in me the value of making prayers with the correct vision-which might be in different forms for everyone - like Vision board, law of attraction etc as mentioned by Darren also. Further he made us realise not to just pray but also have faith.

One example that he repeatedly gave in his books, to explain various techniques, was how to lose weight and be fit. I could relate to this with His main mantra: "If I can do it, you can do it" at a very personal level, and helped me get to a significantly better place mentally, and soon I hope physically too.

Throughout his book, he has talked about so many techniques that really work if you execute them with genuineness. However my favourite bit, were his detailed views on the 9 Laws of Karma.

This book is a great recommendation to all dealing with depression and anxiety related problems especially during the pandemic period.

The book " The happiness program " is a non - fiction about the steps he took from depression to happiness. I think this book is the best demonstration of what it is to actually live with severe anxiety and still find a way to function and thrive in one’s life. It was quite influential on me as wellwell ❤

The author is a former Buddhist monk and a meditation teacher. He was a happy Buddhist monk until a cheating spouse and an ugly divorce broke him. He went through his most painful moments with everyone around him thinking he was okay. He decided to take some steps to get his life and happiness back . The steps are included in the book which helped him alot in his life ✨

I found this book to be very easy to read with great tips. Not only will it help with depression, it helps with a lot of mental health topics that take a toll on people, and offers great strategies to work through them.
For those who want (or need) a more light-hearted approach to battling depression, this book might help you ❤

'Vague goals produce vague results' - Darren Lamb

🍁 The 12 chapters book is based on the journey of the author to finding happiness again. After facing a disturbing, heart-breaking divorce, his life is in shambles. He slips into depression and develops an aversion for everything and everyone around him. As a result, his fears manifest in the form of self-doubt and to some extent self-loathing.

🍁 Being a former monk and a former US marine, he decides to use this knowledge to help him come out of this difficult phase and devises a plan to help himself find happiness again. The author has penned down his plan to help others having similar issues in their lives. It is a detailed book that focuses on weight balancing, physical fitness, mental health, developing healthy habits, and having faith in oneself. The book also addresses the merits of meditating and the types of meditations.

🍁 It is a great read. Having talked in detail about depression, its effects on both the body and mental health, the author has brought forth a way to overcome it. The book is paced well with elucidating narration. This is a highly informative read. The chapter on meditation is my absolute favorite. Definitely recommended to just about anyone wanting to improve the quality of their lives and find the true happiness that clearly does not exist outside in the material world, rather inside us.

Firstly, huge kudos to the author for speaking out in such a frank, unafraid manner. It never ceases to shock me how as a society, we're fairly comfortable with talking about all manner of physical ailments, yet still so reluctant to admit that we're struggling emotionally or mentally. This book is very raw, beautiful, and inspirational. It seems every moment of every day we have a choice to honor our highest selves, to live the life we wish to create. Author's story demonstrates that as long as we continue to breathe it is never too late to alter our trajectory of thought, word, and action, and to live a fully realized life in line with our greatest potential.

The Happiness Program is an incredibly honest journey through the author's personal struggle with depression, anxiety and suicidal thoughts. Not only is the story shared, but the reader becomes empowered throughout the book as the author has given the techniques to follow to get out of your comfort zone and take steps towards happiness. There is a sense of hope in this book that allows us to know that despite how difficult it has been, there is always a way to make it through.

I found this book very helpful and have since shared it with a number of people that have either gone through similar experiences or have been the support for someone struggling in the way the author did. I must say, reading this book brought me to tears and smiles on more than one occasion and I thank the author for sharing his journey.

149 pages of ideas and principles on living a happy life. Being my very first book by the author @ , I had no high expectations. But the book turned out to be an interesting as well as an engaging read. Based on author’s journey from heart-breaking divorce to depression to finding happiness again, ‘The Happiness Program’ focuses in detail on weight balancing, physical fitness, mental health, developing healthy habits, and having faith in oneself.

Divided into twelve chapters, it takes the reader through author’s disturbed life full of depression, aversion, self-doubt and self-loathing. How the author takes control of his distorted life and uses all his obstacles to devise a plan to help himself find happiness again is what the book is all about. The book focuses majorly on these two aspects:
1. creating a 13-weeks writing journal for your upcoming 90 days.
2. workout schedules

This book is the best demonstration of what it feels like to live with depression, anxiety and how can one battle it. With a simple plot, easy language the book ends up to be very informative on mental health and the ways to work it out.

Quoting the author: " We can work out every day
We can eat healthy as well
We can take our vitamins and supplements.
We can even lose fat successfully
But if you don't deal with what's going on inside of your head and heart, you're still going to be unhealthy! "

Maintaining my streak of books on mental health, this new review talks of a debut author ,Darren Lamb who brings to us his ideas and principles for a happier life.

As an ex-marine and an ex-Buddhist monk, life was at its peaceful best for the author;when an ugly divorce throws his world into mayhem and shakes its well constructed foundation.

As expected, the sudden gaping hole in his life and  trust issues threaten to turn him against himself,as the newfound hatred for the world around him tends to consume him all.

However instead of losing his sanity,Darren decides to win back his happiness bit by bit and this book talks about just that.

He sets himself certain tasks and goes about working on them, the process of which helps him get past the roadblocks on his path to happiness. This book urges us to do the same,to seize life by the minute and tap on our reservoir of courage and determination to open ways into a better tomorrow.

As an ex marine and an ex Buddhist monk, the author serves as a good guide on this journey of inner strength and his words make the book remarkable.

Definitely a book worth reading in this day and age.

The Happiness Program is a book written by Darren Lamb. This book marks the journey of the author: how he finds the happiness again in his life. This book tells us the story of his own, when a heartbreaking divorce left him in depression. But he decides to let that heartbreak turn into a lifelong lesson and he wrote about his journey in this book.

The cover page of the book is simple and the title is appropriate for the book. This book talks about depression, happiness, self growth, inner peace, love etc. It contains of 12 helpful and knowledgeable chapters. It teaches you so many lessons about your life journey, the small things that made a large difference in your life.

How you cope up with those problems in your life and came out winning. The language of the book is simple and the narration done in the book is lucid. I felt that this book is very easy to comprehend and grasp what concept and virtues are written in the book.

The author has done a great job writing this book. This book helps you to make a 13 week journal or a program which helps you to know about yourself. Overall, I like the book and I'll recommend this book to all people who love self-help genre.

Darren Lamb, an Ex- Marine and a father, who later became a Buddhist Monk, has narrated his story of depression and resurrection in this book. He lost control of his mental, physical, sexual and emotional health after he went through a difficult divorce but soon realized that some corrective measures are needed to get himself back on track as the path was leading to self destruction. He asked for help, identified the issues and re-built himself. He has shared his journey with the hope of helping the people who are suffering with depression.

⚫My opinion:

I liked the narration as it has the voice of the person who has gone through the bottoms of depression and resurfaced with dignity. The book has few teachings and stories of Buddhism along with some of his own anecdotes which are enlightening. A short book about rebuilding ourselves with the help of appropriate guidance and steps which always starts with self love. The book can be of great help to anyone who is suffering from depression or mental illness.

"When
you know the relationship is over, leave. Don’t waste time
hoping things might change or get better. If you know, go.
Delete the contact. Delete the pictures. Delete the chat. Let

The author, a former marine, a former buddhist monk was satisfied with his life until a cheating and an ugly divorce broke him. Everything went out of his control and he fell into a darkness with nothing to pull him out of it. The book shows his journey, the steps he took to find happiness again.

The book focuses on overcoming depression and to thrive in our lives. In addition to these the offers tips to work on our mental health. Written in a simple language, the author had got my attention into the book within the fort few pages where he talked about the betrayal he received from his wife.

It's been a long time since I read nonfiction and I have no regrets about doing that. The book focuses mainly on overcoming heartbreak. His strong personality inspired me alot and I am happy that the author built him better facing such obstacles. Precisely speaking, the book explains his journey and the way he overcame it. The language is lucid and the narration kept me hooked up. The way he gave his insights on the workout schedule is remarkable and I loved the way he related mental stability with physical fitness. The style and tone are subtle. I almost had the feel of talking to an elderly person. I was so grateful for getting an opportunity to read this book.

" If you don't deal with what's going on inside your head and heart, you are still going to be unhealthy!" and I felt it something notable.

Worth the read and I recommend this book to all the social animals who are undergoing depression.

After a long time, I have read non-fiction. I was amazed by how Darren Lamb kept me hooked throughout the story by just using one reason 'his ex-wife cheated on him and how he started hating each and everything around him and especially himself more than anything else. So the book focuses on how he overcame the problems he was facing, how he changed his mindset and woke up each day to make himself better. I felt really bad about what happened with him but on the positive side, that was his biggest motivation behind writing this book.
The book focuses majorly on these two aspects:
1. creating a 13-weeks writing journal for your upcoming 90 days.
2. a workout schedule
Right now I follow a writing ritual so I might consider following the things recommended in the book in the future.
One dealing with depression, anxiety might find this book very useful.
Overall a good read.

This was the first book I’ve read of Darren Lamb and it for sure won’t be the last.
At the beginning, I was hesitant about this new type, but the writing style made it easy for me to read this book.
The language is so simple, but it is enough to teach us some values. Do not use sharp jargon. Written fluently.
Author became a satisfied ex-Buddhist monk till a dishonest partner and an unpleasant divorce broke him .
Author have become suicidal, and I significantly taken into consideration murder. The pain swallowed me completely.
The author hates what he has become and decided to take some measures to restore my life and happiness.
This book is very well written, but the idea behind this story is not new, which is good.
Great job Darren Lamb , and wishing this book heaps of success!
Highly recommended ,
Happy reading😌✌️

The Happiness Program is a book in which author describes his journey of finding happiness in his life once again.
He lost hope and happiness from life after his heartbreaking divorce and he was left in depression and agony.
But he decided to move on in his life and this book is all about his journey of moving on.
The story is really emotional and inspiring simultaneously and in the light of this statement we can conclude that this book can also be considered as a motivational self help book based on true story.
The language is rich yet comprehensible. The narration is precise and nicely done. The cover is cool but in my opinion could have been better. The title is totally relevant. I loved the book.

The day I got this book, I was stuck on the line - 'a monk, a marine and everything in between'. I wondered how a monk and marine could connect and that is what made me glued to the book. Chapters plotted with personal experiences and lessons and it makes it such an interesting read. I'm glad I have the e-book to carry and read it anywhere I want to. My favourite chapters were Faith and Failure. I could connect with them so much! Simple language, easy and understandable, and so motivational!

I loved this book! This is a gem and I would recommend it to anyone who feels that their mental health is not in top shape. It talks about how exercise is a great way to get yourself going and I second it. Because exercise creates endorphins and endorphins make you happy.

The language was great and was easy to understand. The middle path technique was fab. I tried it and though it has been only a week I really feel the difference in my life. Loved the book!
