Michael was born a null. Not an alpha or an omega, but nothing. He never went to playmating group when he was younger, never fell in love or chose a mate. Frankly, it just didn’t matter. He went into the military young, was put on suppressants and has tried very hard not to think about it since.

His luck just ran out.

Meeting Sargeant Preston Grady, the alpha in charge of Designational Resources, jars him into his true omega self. But, Preston doesn’t just think Michael is an omega, he thinks he’s a submissive omega.

Which is a disaster.

This is a standalone gay omegaverse romance with a guaranteed happily ever after!

This book made me come to the realization of a few details:
- I LOVE when ‘Princess’ is used as a term of endearment (for myself included). Why? I have absolutely no idea. But it DOES something to my insides.
- I was unaware of just how much praise would affect me as a person, and boy DOES it affect me especially when it’s coming from a SOFT DOM.
- Did I mention a Soft Dom? Cause let me tell you, I’ve read books with Masters and Sadists and ‘Hard’ Doms, and I’ve enjoyed them. But I have always enjoyed reading soft and pleasure doms the most…what does that say about me? Anyway, Soft Doms are perfection. Also, this is essentially a Daddy/boy relationship, without the use of Daddy. And I LOVE Daddy kink so huge plus from me.
- I was truly blessed when I started this reread (having forgotten the entire story) and realized that the main character is a big military man who is secretly an incredibly submissive omega. I literally couldn’t believe my luck. Phenomenal.
- Also!!! Submissive Omega as a type of omega!? Absolutely. Cocklet? Yes. Alpha Pillow? Yes. Needy, so VERY needy???? YES YES YES. I am so into it it’s not even funny. I am OBSESSED.
- I read this book like last year, and promptly put it in my Trash list. Why I did this? Probably because I hadn’t yet experienced all of the books (and enjoyed) I’ve experienced now, including a ton of A/B/O. I can say with utmost certainty that I am glad I randomly decided to reread this book.

With all that being said, there were some moments of disorientation regarding the plot and story line. Also, some editing errors that were a little abrupt, and the ending as a whole was very sudden. But, to be honest, I completely ignored those issues and focused on the deliciousness within.

Knot Needed
By Jamie Kassel

Michael has a unique issue. He's never presented as an alpha or an omega. He's never been attracted to either an alpha or an omega either. He's considered a null. A rare classification in their world.

When he joins the military at age 16 Michael is put on suppressants. (As are all soldiers.) So if he presented during that time he wouldn't know it. When his tour is finished and he's back home getting ready to continue on in a new department his lack of classification becomes an issue. When he meets Preston, whose job it is to help those who are an unknown figure out which classification they are, Michael finds himself attracted to someone for the first time in his life.

The storyline for this book is very unique so I was thrilled to see where it went and actually put aside a book I was already currently reading at the time so I could dive right into it. I was not disappointed in the slightest and in fact went back and bought it before I was even halfway through it. The world building when it comes to classifications and figuring them out is VERY in depth.

When Preston tries to classify Michael he finds he's somewhat of an enigma because he acts like both an alpha or an omega depending on the situation. Even when he finally realizes what Michael is Preston is still working through to find the subtle nuances in his classification because to Preston Michael is a puzzle he must figure out for Michael's safety and happiness.

The story is mostly in Michael's POV, but several chapters are in Preston's. The angst level is between medium and high, but mostly on the high side due to Michael's emotional reactions. This book is very erotic. Most of the book is very sexual and written in a gentle manner. It has no rough or kinky sex.

The ending felt a tad abrupt. My only other complaint is that after Preston takes Michael home their jobs are only mentioned twice more in an offhanded way and they don't

Side Notes: There are elements of BDSM, but the times they are used it is to keep Michael feeling safe, secure, and happy. It also comes off as somewhat of an Alpha/Daddy's boy relationship. The author calls it that as well on one occasion.

One more thing... if you like severely needy characters (both sexually and emotionally) this book is definitely for you.

(reread) Hm. I remember it differently. I definitely believe that this story is pretty dang unique, but I'm not entirely sure if I like it or not. I definitely didn't mind this other take on omegaverse and I'd even say it's worth reading just to have something different than usual, but I'm very, very sure it's not for everyone.

I can totally see why this is not everyone‘s cup of tea. It’s all kinds of special and all kinds of unique. Even the dom/sub relationship is next level.

So yeah, I can see how people can’t be bothered with this book. But for me, it was almost perfect. And I can simply not put my experience into words.

Rating: 1.5/5 - Stay with me - this is going to be one helluva rant. Hehehehehehehe😂🫣 the horror of a bad story! Where do i even begin?

This book! THIS BOOK! This is a comedy. This is a b-grade comedy that was written for the sake of writing? What was the point of this story? You take an excellent character and reduce him to a blubbering mess. The potential of some genuinely good concepts totally gone to waste.

I mean let me just get this out of the way - “babydoll” BABYDOLL!!!! There was no relationship - they just met and bam! Forever together! That’s creepy. Makes me wonder if Mikhail had a house of his own and what was his life or Preston’s life before they met?

Don’t even get me started on the playmate groups!!! I want to dead!!!!!! A whole clothed orgy!!! Nah man - how is what? Happening? Why is huh? No!

The pet names were cringey AF! Also this author’s x scenes are terrible. It’s like you blink and the scene is over. The reader is left as dry as the sand of the Sahara whilst reading about the fountains of slick from a gland that takes up a good 50% of the story.

That gland had better character development.
There was more excitement in the gland’s glow-up than in the entire 200 pages of words put together because they can.

It’s a first for me to read ABO and question the concept of heat. This was legit a fever. Like medical fever, not arousal fever. Hehehehehehe… all I can do is laugh at this point. Laugh in confused…

Knot needed is really not needed. I didn’t know this had daddy/little vibes and thank god there was no direct age-play or diapers and stuff. I would have yeeted out of there like dang!

I love needy characters but not infantilised which is why I steer clear from age-play genres. I think my needy character is not this type of needy character. And I believe that’s fine. We all have our own preferences.

I think the concept of betas leaning towards beta-alpha/beta-omega was really cool but so poorly executed. I don’t even know what the point of this story was. There was no character growth, in fact they both ended up leaving exciting careers to bang in the new office??? Bruh!!! You cannot be serious!

They speak about traumatised submissive omega but there isn’t sufficient background or character history to justify childhood trauma. Yes there’s the feeling of not fitting in as a child but the warping of not fitting in could have been treated differently.

The feminisation of the character was uncomfortable. Like you can be soft and needy and not feminine? TF was tits and breasts in this story?
Speaking about hymens - are we back in the late 90s where that was the be all end all for sweet, innocent virgin? I mean firstly - hymens mentioned in an MM romance takes the cake! The sprinkles being an ABO novel!!! Nah man. Be real.

The voyeurism and neediness in public… mmmmm it could have been handled better. A society that accepts this level of voyeurism - interesting but so poorly executed.

I’m convinced this story was written as a parody. I’m convincing myself because I don’t have a valid reason to explain what I’ve read.

I dunno man - this book confused TF out of me. I rated this as highly as I did because it was hilariously entertaining. The cringe factor was up in the triple digits and I truly felt sorry for Mikhail who had such potential as a character - only to be reduced into a crying, dribbling, uncomfortable mess. A whole ass soldier btw! I mean the things you could have done with his character being a submissive omega!!! Bruh be for real!

Read for entertainment and switch your brain off when you do. Maybe switch off all your senses because this will not make a lick of sense and you might have a stroke if you think too hard about why this even exists.

But I guess we need these types of novels to exist so we can genuinely appreciate well written content.

Search and replaced Stucky fic. I assume Stucky anyway, neither of the main characters's personalities resembled either of Cap or Bucky, but there were references to "super soldiers", "serum" and "SHIELD" that had been missed in the editing process.

Outside of the distracting references to the MCU, this wasn't bad for what it is. It's soft and sweet, but there's a lot of exposition and the fact that it was originally fanfiction means that there is no development of the characters or their relationship, which is fine for fic but doesn't work for original romance. I did like some of the world building aspects, and thought they fit well with the a/b/o universe.

Update: Yay! Loved the extension and added storyline. It was not super long, but everything felt more cohesive and complete. I would still love to know a bit more of their story, but I can happily close this book after finishing it, feeling content for the pair, awaiting what their future might bring. Great work!

Old Review: Having finished this book I am a bit disappointed - I really liked the first half of the book, the world building, the premise, the characters - very intriguing and interesting! Going by just the first half I might have given the book 4, maybe even 5 stars. The struggle, the relationship between the main characters is fleshed out, the external problems as well as the internal struggle nicely portrayed. The only negative point would be that I would have wanted a bit more worldbuilding like classification of omegas and what that legally means as well as more about betas and how this world came to be. But all in all - great job!

So, let’s talk about the second half of the book. Very boring - nothing is happening, it was just a verrrrry drawn out erotica? Yes, there are a few small things that happen like the doctor-stuff (I‘m being intentionally vague), but what I would really have wanted to see would be how Michael would feel, going to work with Preston instead of in HIS job function - would he still be so tranquil about that? What about the legal repercussions? I just cannot believe that Michael would still be 100% happy with that. All in all - the sex scenes and intimacies were just too drawn out - I would have wanted some more story … It might have been alright as a stand-alone erotica, but as the second half of a book that already made me invested in the characters it was just disappointing. So all in all 3 stars and I really hope that there will be a second book with more of a story-focus.

Captivating and unique take on omegaverse

This author does a great job at writing a needy/submissive character and a dominant yet gentle character who gives them everything they need, like the His Sex Therapist series. This has that as well as a really unique approach to omegaverse that I haven’t encountered before and enjoyed.

This book is all over the place and feels like it doesn't know where it's going or what plot to stick to. Like why are we in a sex store discussing the political biases of magazines(!) and how that ties to the "alpha patriarchy"? This book had me bursting out laughing at how ridiculous the dialogue and language was. Idk, it just reads too educational. I didn't jive with it.

A lot of the information we get from Michael even when we are in his POV is so conflicting with the other information he gives chapters later. It just makes all the drama that happened earlier in the book pointless, like what was all the confusion about Michael's designation and all the strange out alpha-ing other alphas when he'd actually been to a doctor in his youth and was informed of his designation??

Also I really didn't like the sex dynamic between Michael and Preston. I didn't realize being a submissive omega meant being a child? The way Preston would baby Michael with words like "bottom" in reference to his ass or "good boy", "baby doll" or "princess" as pet names. I love praise kink but the pet names were so overused, it just was so eye roll inducing. Michael too would all of a sudden start talking like Yoda or in single words. Idk, i just wasn't expecting there to be a regression age play-like theme with this book so I hated those moments.

Unfortunately didn't enjoy this one. The writing style, dialogue, and sex dynamic was all just not for me.

Similar to the other omegaverse books I’ve read from Kassel, this started off great. But the second half read like one very long sex scene, only broken up by one brief outing.

Instead of giving me a quick epilogue explaining how they were going to navigate things going forward, it would have been nice to maybe see that as a discussion on page?

There was some mild feminization in this, and that is something I don’t enjoy reading, so a CW would have been nice. Though, there was a blank page titled “Preface”, so I did wonder if there was supposed to be something there. This page doesn’t appear on the “Look Inside” preview at all.

The editing was spotting. At first, I though alpha was accidentally not being capitalized at the beginning of sentence, but then I realized that was likely a stylistic choice when Preston is not biologically an alpha. But if that was the case, it should have been consistent, and it wasn’t. There was a lot of quotations missing, sometimes making it difficult to follow what was dialogue. And some typos, unless Michael does have a prefect hole.

I do continue to find Kassel’s writing and omegaverse quite interesting, but she seems to get 80% there and then drops the plot in lieu of smut.

The cover has nothing to do with the story, and the book feels rushed, especially during the second half, but I still liked it and found what world building there was really interesting.

A strong start, but Knot Needed ended up focusing almost entirely on non-stop sex — which, I suppose, isn't unexpected with omegaverse, and unfortunately Michael's (Mikhail's?) character suffered for it.

I did love that Preston wasn't aggressive and was more of a soft dom who didn't begrudge Michael for his neediness and totally heaped on the praise kink, though. A nice change from all the super alpha MMCs.

So I liked the premise and the idea of this story, it was new to me. I liked it enough that I wanted to read the whole book and see how it ended.

All in all, this book wasn’t for me. I didn’t like it when his hole was referred to as a pu**y. This happened really fast and I understand the changes in Mikhail’s personality and how and why they happened so fast. However, that’s not my preferred type of book. I’m not a fan of super needy and emotional characters.

So this is a case of “it’s me”.

I… just don’t even know what I just read. It started out so promising. It was a take on ABO that I’ve never read, so I was extremely intrigued. Then about 60% through I was intrigued with dnf’ing. I didn’t, I powered through. Thought about crying with Michael. It was definitely heavy on the erotica side, as titled. Very light on the romance. The relationship was not developed. The ending was a total change in direction and pace.

TW - military (past), parental death (past, mentioned), orphan MMC, PTSD (mentioned), self harm (generally mentioned and MMC intentionally bites the inside of his mouth to the point of bleeding), suicide (generally mentioned), drug use (generally mentioned), arrhythmia (past, mentioned), prejudice, blood, poverty (past, mentioned), infertility

CW - biting, katoptronophilia, cum marking, cum eating, D/s, hand necklace, breeding, cockwarming, public play, spanking

Tropes - omegaverse,

Representation - androgynous characters and gender fluidity (in terms of designation biology / secondary genders), queer rep, MM

Idk what Jamie Kassel puts into these but I can’t get enough. I enjoyed the twist on omegaverse and designations in this one, it was unlike other omegaverse I’ve read but I ate it up all the same.

Jamie gives us another vulnerable and weepy MMC who just craves the care of their partner. I found it was like His Sex Therapist which I also really enjoyed.

I'll start with saying I'm not an omegaverse fan in general so this book is the first alpha/omega book I've fully read. I'm not sure how much is this book and how much is a genre I'm not used to.

Honestly, I'm not sure how I feel. In one sense this book was sexy af. (Like seriously. Whoa.) I love daddy/boy books- including age regression and this felt very similar. Only.. extreme age regression with trauma. I was uncomfortable with sex being the point of a story that included someone that was almost toddler age regressed and going through a traumatic time. There was nothing wrong with it in the book. This was something that was a me issue.

That aside, I thought for adorable porn it was really well written. The characters were distinct and cared about each other and wanted what was best. Mikhail does bring new definition to the word "needy", but I'm here for it. The sex was detailed without being boring or redundant. In fact it does what I love about sex in books - brings the characters closer together.

One last issue I had with the book was the negative way "liberal omegas" were shown. How they're taking away the life that submissive omegas thrive in. Plus the author goes out of their way to explain how a religious conservative right wing person invented the pillow that Mikahail loves so much. (um.. why) This was almost the exact argument I've had with conservatives in rl where I've had to explain liberals aren't taking away women's roles they are giving women choices about what role they have. Okay, stepping off my soap box now..

If you want an easy read with a simple plot and lots of sweet and loving sex/sexual situations, a needy bottom boy and loving caretaking daddy/alpha this is the book for you! It's a book that's written to be a specific way and I think it does that magnificently.

Read to me by Alexa.

This was surprisingly really enjoyable for me. I don’t know what I expected, but I did not expect to love this as much as I did. I almost only really love dark romances with the occasional really well written, sweet romance, but this isn’t really fit into either of those categories. This was a really sweet erotic Omegaverse, featuring a sweet and patient daddy with a really needy boy.

So we first meet Mikhail, who is thought to be a null. As far as he knows, he is not an alpha, a beta, or an omega. He has never felt sexual attraction to anyone, and he doesn’t show any of the characteristics that would help classify him. He’s also pretty small and weak as a child and so he gets excluded. As a result, he joins the military as soon as he can I want to say like 16 or 17 it is put on suppressant as part of his military training. Once he leaves active duty, he is forced to confront his lack of knowledge about his designation in the form of therapy.

Enter Sergeant Preston. Preston’s job revolves around helping people navigate their designation, and the urges that come with those designations. (I think anyway). Mikhail meets Preston, and for the first time he starts to feel sexual attraction. I won’t go into exactly how their relationship evolves from there so I don’t completely ruin the story, but let’s just say the Mikal that is with Preston is a completely different Mikal than the one that has been an officer in the military.

There is🍆 suckling, which I was a big fan of. Also in this Omegaverse, male omegas have small 🍆 and they pretty much stay soft and small even with arousal. And its called a “cocklet” 🥹. I didn’t know I needed this… but apparently I did lol. There’s a lot of comforting and coddling.

It’s all very sweet everything is consensual and I just loved every minute of it. The book is short and things happen pretty quickly, but somehow it did not feel rushed.

Now I do not know who wrote the blurb for the book but the main character's name is Mikhail, not Michael, let's get this right.

The book itself started very well, i was absolutely on board, enjoying it a lot until the moment when Preston took Mikhail home. The problem is that from that point it was simply about Preston explaining what was going on with Mikhail, we were getting bookish explanations and there was simply no character development. They were together because they were compatible and that was it.

I get it.I dont't really expect mates (when reading abo books) to fall in love based on their characters anymore because authors tend to just skip that and tell us that characters are meant to be because of their compatibility or bond or whatever.
But this started really well, it had lot of potential.

I am sad we didn't explore Preston's character more, maybe the way he was waiting for his own omega or the way he accepted being a beta when he was younger, maybe the way he appreciated and enjoyed Mikhail calling him an alpha despite the fact that that wasn't his designation? There seemed to be a lot more to explore when it comes to his character.

I also wish we got to see how was Mikhail functioning months after they got together, we only knew it would be difficult for Preston and the way Preston was telling Mikhail he was there for him, that he's not a hard work but I think it would have been more meaningful if we actually got to see it few months into the future.

After reading another book by Jamie Kassel and not liking it at all, I didn't really want to read this book. But, I had already purchased it so figured I may as well try it and get it over with. And although I can definitely see how this isn't everyone's cup of tea, it certainly was mine.

The book comes with a lot of hurt/comfort. So much caring and gentleness and sweetness and understanding. It also comes with sexual frustrations and an alpha/beta/omega society. Although I did like that there were things I haven't read before in typical omega books:

- Preston is a beta who prefers to be viewed by society as an alpha.
- Alpha's have big cocks, omega's have little cocklets.
- Alpha's get hard and come, omega's stay soft and 'release'.
- Michael is classified as a traumatized submissive omega. And there's actually laws about taking care of omega's like him. Since he is very needy he even needs to go to work with Preston.

Was this book perfect? For most people probably not. But for me it was. Preston had endless patience and Michael was beautiful in discovering who he was and what he needed after being denied for so long. I loved this book surprisingly much and am so grateful I read it.

Neediness is my crack, and I honestly didn't think there was an amount that was too much.. But this is too much.
I like it overall, but there's really nothing else to this story.

There's no real plot, and it isn't even really centered around the actual sex, more around the needing and crying. So much crying.

There's also a TON of insecurity, feelings of unworthiness, and disbelief of being loved. A little of that could be interesting, or even hot if done right, but its kind of repetitive, the same conversation over and over again, with no different result.

In the end it was more an adult caring for an extremely traumatized baby, than two grown men in a relationship. And I love TPE, so that isn't what bothered me. But in the end the sub should have at least some sense of self/identity/trust in his partner.

When he's a complete wreck ALL of the time.. For the whole book.. It's just exhausting. I mean that's my favourite trope, I didn't even know there was a thing as too much. But apparently there is.

It's not a bad time. And I will definitely read other books by this author, but I wont read this exact book again, it was exhausting.

Spoilers ahead.

fun fact, I think this is the first ever time I've given a book five flames. deadass. this was HEAVY on the smut and man, was it some good smut.

I'll tell you now that it is weird smut. the whole book is weird. it's abo but not the standard kind. I personally prefer the standard kind and this was a teeny tiny lil bit cringe but overall it was SO hot. Idk what else I can tell y'all. I've never read anything hotter (at least no books that were this hot AND had this amount of smut scenes).

would I recommend this to anyone I know? hell no. do I recommend it to you? as long as you like unconventional stuff and lots of smut, hell yeah.

ps: some of the stuff did feel slightly age-play like. I feel like it might make some people uncomfortable. like the words "all done" being used when the alpha wanted the omega to stop doing/thinking about something. it's not the most obvious thing but I haven't heard "all done" ever being used with anyone other than children so yeah. and I really dislike age play so I tried to ignore it and it kind of worked. just go into this knowing that.

This was 100% a Captain America fanfic at some point. The editing could've been a whole lot cleaner though. If I had stumbled across this on AO3 I would not be mad. I'm not mad even. I was sufficiently amused while reading this. I'm usually not a fan of ABO being flipped on its head but Michael was an interesting case. Like an Omega Enigma almost. In a way. If you don't take this TOO seriously it's a decent brain-off read. The playmatingdating group thing was icky tho. It could have definitely done without it ever being mentioned.

Michael was fun to get to know as was Preston. I lowkey think Michael was "Steve" based on some context clues but, again, if it was scrubbed and beta'd (or at least keywords ran through a find filter and changed) it might've taken me longer to catch on or maybe I wouldn't have at all. Preston was a sweetie and that's all I can really say. He didn't offend me. Didn't give off "Bucky" vibes. (Again what do I know) Would be a 9/10 coworker to have.

Would I read this again? Eh. Probably. It really was pretty much vibes. I did enjoy the first half of the book way more than the latter half purely on personal preference.

“What happened, alpha?” “You went into heat, sweetheart.” “Is it over?” “It is. A light heat.” “Did I… was I a slut?”
Mikhail is precious but very needy. I am not his alpha so it got to be a bit much for me. But again, he's very sweet and needs constant safety and reassurance from his alpha.
“Pretty titty, show it to me,” he says, and urges Mikhail to lift enough so his shirt raises.
I loved the tiny cock rep, the feminization of body parts, and the superior care-taking. Mikhail is such a unique MC, he's a muscled military guy who turns out to be the softest needy boy ever.
“You my sweet little omega?” He can’t speak. He nods and waits. Yes, that’s who he is. He belongs to Preston and he’s his omega. The end.
I wish this book was edited a bit more, the ideas expanded upon, instead of 200 pages of what felt slightly repetitive. I kept having to remind myself that these are human men because my brain pictured wolves for some reason as I read🤦‍♀️

5 stars. The plot is certainly different. I loved it. Michael is a null. Which means he hasn’t presented as anything. He’s not an Alpha, Beta, or Omega. Until he meets Preston. Preston is a Beta who leans more Alpha though and he makes Michael present as not only an Omega but a Submissive Omega. This was hot but had heart to it as well. The beginning part was a bit of a slog because there is a lot of info dumping and world building. Kassel really goes into how everything works but I was more interested in the romance obviously and it was great. I loved both characters and I thought they were great together. Preston is so protective and he has a dirty mouth on him. I loved the pet names that he called Michael. Especially sweetheart and princess. Michael has a lot of emotional baggage that he has to overcome but it was great to see how it just felt right for him to be a Submissive Omega. This book was hot as hell and I seriously adored it. It needed to be edited sure but dammit I was hooked and I will for sure be reading it again.

what worked for me:
+ a unique take of an omegaverse story
+ everything was explained with a lot of details
+ the dynamic between preston and michael was not a typical alpha/omega dynamic
+ preston was so sweet and caring towards michael

what didn’t work for me:
- everything was explained with a lot of details which meant mega info-dumps
- the story honestly started off really good and interesting but it lost its steam around halfway
- michael was too submissive that i felt like it was a chore for preston to take care of him even though that was what he wanted
- the last half just dragged on for too long without much plot and then ended quite abruptly
- the sex could’ve been more…detailed? especially for what the story was

2.5 ⭐️ overall, this was okay. i actually started out really excited because it was so good, but it lost steam at the end for me when nothing was really moving the plot. despite that, i’m still enjoying this author’s works in general.

Mikhail was born a null.

I found this story hard to follow at times and some of the descriptions of each other are hard to follow too. Was Preston a Beta, Alpha or Omega - I really wasn't sure, and why was he suddenly able to remove Mikhail from the premises and take time off plus did he write any reports? It was just mixed up. This was an MM story containing mature content and set in the Omegaverse.
