Incurable Pain

Rate this book
Bai Xunyin was inadvertently traumatized by stress during the year she graduated from Middle School. She became a “little mute” who couldn’t speak. In her first year of high school, she spent her days listening to the cynicism and discriminatory bullying of people around her until her second year of high school. Bai Xunyin met Yu Luoyin. He was clear, elegant, with straight eyebrows and star like eyes. He was the most handsome boy in school, and was the dream boyfriend of all girls in school. But for Bai Xunyin, Yu Luoyin was the first to protect her, smile at her, discuss topics with her, and the person who had lunch with her. The onset of her crush was turbulent and confusing in her teenage years.

Bai Xunyin’s diary during the second year of high school was filled with the name ‘Yu Luoyin’. Bai Xunyin did not extravagantly ask for Yu Luoyin to like her, but she didn’t expect that in the third year of high school, she would inadvertently see his “true personality” in the corner of a corridor. Under Yu Luoyin’s gentle, elegant and handsome appearance was a scumbag. He faced his two tr*shy friends, smiled and said-“The little mute started to like me. Our bet ends here, I’m bored of staying with her.” Bai Xunyin could not speak, but her eyes knew how to cry. Since then, she never looked directly at Yu Luoyin again.

Afterwards Young Master Yu ridiculed her, mocked her, broke a table, apologized, and even hurt himself, he used various methods but it was still useless. He could only kneel in front of Bai Xunyin, his eyes red, and his voice hoarse, begging—”Yinyin, forgive me once. For the rest of my life, I will never dare to do this again.” *You are my unspeakable incurable pain. It hurts when I think of you, but it hurts even more when I can’t think of you.

Suggested if you like your books full of angst that gradually and almost flawlessly rounds up to become a happily ever after.

As you can surmise, this isn't a warm romance since both Bai Xunyin and Yu Luoyin meet each other under the pretense of a bet. Yu Luoyin is intrigued by Bai Xunyin who, even though has temporarily lost her ability to speak defies all the harsh circumstances that comes her way. She's given a hard time by most of her school mates who ignore her presence and go on with their lives as though she doesn't exist. It's only her friend Amo who stays by her all throughout. She's even bullied by the newly elected school "flower" who replaced her after her accident.

She realises that no matter what stance she'll take up, it's tough to change the perspective of those who have already made up their minds about her. When Bai Xunyin is growing up in such environment, she meets Yu Luoyin, someone who treats her differently than all her peers. He makes her feel treasured and needed.

She's hesitant to embrace the fact that she might be catching feelings for Yu Luoyin, the most famous boy in the entire school campus. Yu Luoyin on the other hand has not let go his thoughts about winning the bet even though he's developing feelings for Bai Xunyin, and that stood as a major hurdle in their relationship.

Bai Xunyin finds out the truth and that completely breaks her heart. She grieves for all the happy times Yu Luoyin filled her life with, albeit only for a few short months and had to constantly remind herself that it was all under the pretense of the bet.

Bai Xunyin shuts herself from the outside world and only focuses on her studies, while Yu Luoyin is undeterred and continues to reconcile with her but keeps getting rejected.

After six years apart, they meet each other again. Both are still very much attracted to eachother but their lives have changed. Gone are all their childhood dreams and wishes, and instead they wound-up in completely different paths of life. The story progresses with them hesitantly taking a second chance on their previously doomed relationship.

The first half of the book takes readers to the past when the duo met in highschool. The second half follows the present timeline when Bai Xunyin and Yu Luoyin meet after six years of separation.

I rated it with 3 stars because the book justifies its title. Even though there were a few lighthearted moments, they were all still tinged with angst. The MC experienced pain from the very beginning and it lasted all throughout the book, until they got their happy ending.

I prefer more warm & fluffy reads but decided to give it a try since it was an unusual plotline for a C-Webnovel.
