Okay definitely decided to change my rating before I wrote the review.. mostly because I have no idea how to rate this bitch right now.

Hidden Hollywood was an eh, okay, kind of book. In it, you will meet Claire and Jake. They both go on a blind date and pretend to be people they aren't. Jenny, aka Claire, and Josh, Jake's twin brother who was supposed to go on this date but they switched places. Yeah, it was interesting and I wanted to see where this was going to go.. but ugh, I couldn't get fully invested in these two.

The romance, if you could even call it that, was okay. Yeah, they had sparks and chemistry. The smut was amazing too (when it happened) but these two were a bit frustrating to ship. Whether it was Claire and her stupid image. Or Jake taking forever to tell her he isn't Josh. I wanted to like these two more than I eventually did - so I'm a bit disappointed by this book.

Overall, I guess I'm glad that this was free on KU and that I took a chance on this couple, series, and author - but I have no idea if I want to dive into the next book or not. Might sit and think about that for a while.

A PERFECT way to start this series!

I loved everything about this book. Everything. There are so many different personalities in here, and it still has that underlying "Kylie-humor" that I totally get and love.

As usual, I was sucked in from the beginning. Having read most of the previous series where most of these characters were introduced (though NOT necessary to enjoy this book), I couldn't wait to read what adventures awaited these book club ladies.

Kylie did not disappoint!

In the beginning, when Jake and Josh revealed what they were planning, I was ECSTATIC. I knew this was going to be some story, and I COULD NOT WAIT to see how it unfolded.

And then, when their plot was realized by those involved, the outcome was absolutely worth waiting for. While Claire and Jake get their Happily Ever After, Kylie left the door wiiiiiiide open for not only the next book, but the rest of the series. I don't know about you, but I'm in this one for the long haul!

Uhhhhh not enough romance in this romance...

This book managed to make me root for the hero and jeer at the heroine...not pleasant in a romance novel. I loved the premise and was excited to read about these two jaded, successful people finding their way to one another. But sadly Claire fizzled BADLY. Her obsession with her brand, her persona that she declares isn't the real her is ridiculous. Even if that is truly the way Hollywood works, THIS. IS. A. ROMANCE. NOVEL. We are supposed to suspend reality and be taken further...to fall into love with two characters that fall in love. Sadly we get Jake, who has EVERY right to be p.o'ed at Claire, she wants to hide him away like some dirty homewrecking secret, when he has he right of it, telling her, "you can't let the press dictate your life." Heck she basically tells him off and breaks up with him because he won't play the game. And in the end, he's the one who has to acquiesce and come crawling back?! Blake the rake JERK gets to stay, no karmic justice for him?! AND Jake has to wait until production wraps to go public? I'm sorry none of this is romantic or LOVING. Jake, yes I perhaps could believe he loved Claire, since he was willing to give up so much...but Claire? She comes off as selfish, self centered, egotistical, narcissistic, and frankly just about as unloveable as any villain I've read about. About twenty pages in I was already rooting for Jake to fall in love with Hailey, heck, anyone but the pretentious movie star that was Claire. I truly wish the author would have really stripped Claire bare and let us see the real true vulnerable girl she was "faking being" as Jenny...the person that was Claire was unappealing, the actress Claire even more so, and the heroine unconvincing and sadly unrootable i.e. you could not muster enough anything to root for her. What is a romance if you can't root for the main protagonists to claim and deserve their happily ever after?

Too drawn out, characters not that likable

I just couldn’t get sucked in to this story. The main characters are not really that likable and it’s a bit hard to swallow the poor me routine from a billionaire CEO and a world famous, sexiest woman alive movie star. Additionally, this is an attempt to build a series which is clearly going to have Hailey at its center and she is just awful...rude, mercenary and she comes across as a user. No need to follow through on the rest of this series for me.

I very annoyingly didn't recognise the writer's name or I wouldn't have read this at all.

This book was at least better than the last book I read by this writer, but it was still quite immature and disappointing.

I'm not willing to pay the asking price for these books to keep reading the series and only read this one because it was free, so that's me done, I think.

Hidden Hollywood by Kylie Gilmore

For the longest time - okay, fine, like a big ole 24 hours while I binge read this - I totally forgot what the title was. I for sure thought it was Happy Endings Book Club. Imagine my surprise when I saw that it did, in fact, find out that its title was Hidden Hollywood. Okay, it wasn't all that surprising but still.

The premise of Hidden Hollywood is as adorable and cheesy as it sounds. Our lovely heroine, Claire Jordan, is Hollywood's It Girl. She's got everything going for her at the moment with her new production company, movie, and career. The only thing that is missing is her love life - which is about as sucky as a Edward Cullen impersonator on Halloween - it's just bad. Enter in her new bundle of friends - the Happy Endings Book Club - who are determined to fix their new friend up with a book club approved man.

Jake Campbell is just like Claire. He's got a chip on his figurative dating shoulder from all the girls that just want to use him for his body or money, and he's not looking to get back into the romance game. However, when Jake agrees to pull the ole switcharoo with his twin, Josh, to hang out with a lovely, small town girl, he doesn't imagine he could ever fall for the girl on the blind date - and especially now that she's effectively disappeared.

What will happen with these lovebirds? Will we ever know?

Well, the answer lie straight up in the title?

I thought this was a pretty good book. It was a delightful little feels that definitely brought me the feels. While there wasn't much new in this book, I enjoyed the characters and the little twists that Gilmore did to make it a bit different than the rest of the cliched romance pack. You should know this going into the book, and if you can handle that, you will definitely have an enjoyable, super easy and quick read.

I did like the characters. I really did like Claire as the heroine. I wasn't so sure about her at first, since I didn't get any real feels from her in the beginning, but by the end, I was totally rooting for her. I understood why she did why she did, and she really did have a good grasp on what she wanted for her future and herself. She felt well rounded, and I could see the adjustments to her character as the story went on, which was needed for the changes. I kind of preferred Josh to Jake, though. I liked Jake, but I guess I wanted him a bit more...I don't know. I just wanted something a bit more from him. I did like him, though.

I did love the supporting characters. I loved the relationship between Hailey and Josh, and man, Kylie was right about the angst of their relationship. They are two minor characters that have a love-hate, will-they-won't-they pull, and to tell the truth, these are the relationships I adore and I was rooting for them a bit more than I was rooting for Claire and Jake. I can't wait for their book.

I also loved the whole dynamic of the book club. I thought it was an interesting addition to the book and concept, and I have to admit that it was a great showcase of powerful and empowering female relationships. It was great to see a book that actually didn't just add in the sassy, quirky female best friend to have the prerequisite friend. Instead, it was a good group of side characters that had their own personalities - although I mixed up a few of them at some point, but I'm super sure they're be expanded more in other books - and I loved how they encouraged each other and actually showed true friendship. Mad was great as well, and I can't wait to read her story, which is Inviting Trouble, the next one coming out.

The storyline was pretty good, and I mean there was a small mystery added in - although it was super obvious. The clear storyline was the romance, and if you're good with that, it's good.

The only reason that I took down a star is because I felt like it was missing a little something. I mean, it was a cheesy, adorable romance book, but I'm not sure how long it will stay with me after I'm done and only the next book. It felt like it was missing that little extra push of something. I still will go on to read the rest in the series, but I guess I just wanted a little something extra? I swear if I say little something one more time, you all reading this will tell me a little something about it.

Overall, this was a cute story, a cute setup, and a cute romance. If you're fine with that, you'll definitely enjoy this book. I sure did. However, it is missing a certain spark that will really resonate this book with you for a long time after. It still is good and adorable, though, so I would recommend. Just go in knowing you're going to be greeted with cliched romances, sassy book club members, and a disappointing lack of carbs.

*I received this as part of the Goodreads First program from the author. It did in no way change my opinion or review of this book although I definitely appreciated it. Thanks to the author!*

Claire Jordan is at the peak of her career. As a successful actress, working on her franchise of the Fierce trilogy series she drunkenly tells the women of her Happily Ever After Book club how lonely she is. All the men she has dated have used and abused her, whether trying to advance their own careers or sell their stories to the highest bidder. She is lonely and would just like one day to be herself.

The resident matchmaker Hailey (& with the help of the other book-club members), an alter-ego personality is created under the Pseudonym Jenny Coleman. Hailey has subjected Josh Campbell into providing single women 'the gentleman experience'. A once-off fun date with no strings attached, unless clear consent is agreed between the two parties.

Jake Campbell, CEO of DAT Cloud, a successful file sharing business is lonely. He is at another of the endless supply of parties with fake women with fake personalities and catches himself reminiscing of the times before he hit it big. When the women were the girl-next door. Feeling nostalgic, he messages his twin brother Josh and arranges a weekend home with him.

Finding out his brother Josh has been going on blind dates in a weird business-style arrangement with Hailey - a girl his brother is crushing on; they agree to switch places. Jake will become Josh and get back to the outdoors whilst Josh will give Hailey the Jake experience and at the end of the evening, do the big reveal, but not all goes to plan.

Jake and Claire have the instant connection that most people only dream (or read) about. They laugh and talk and after a bottle or two of wine, find themselves entwined for a single night of passion. Awaking the next morning to find her gone leaves him devastated and before long, he starts his mission to try and find her.

A week passes before Claire agrees to a final date as Jenny, especially as 'Josh' has never asked for a second date before. The connection between them is as strong as ever but after hearing the it's not you it's me speech, Jake walks out. A day passes, when Jake & Josh's younger brother Ty, invites them to the set of the movie he is working on & in walks the lead actress Claire Jordan. Jake immediately realizes Jenny & Claire are the same person. Worried he may go to the press, Claire invites him to her hotel for a meeting. Upon revealing their true identities, they agree to date under the radar, although Jake is miffed at Claire putting the press above her own happiness.

Meanwhile, Josh's dinner with Hailey was a disaster. He believes her interest in Jake (in particular Jakes' money) puts a downer on the whole evening and he cannot wait until the dinner is finished. He doesn't reveal who he is believing he is not good enough for her. Hailey on the other hand is bored. She thought it was a business dinner but all 'Jake' has done is boasted about his money and material items. He even took her to the most fanciest restaurant in town which makes her worry that the other patrons will see she doesn't belong. She grew up poor with a single mother, entering & winning beauty pageants put her through college. She just wanted ideas how to make her business thrive. When she finds out who she really went to dinner with, Hailey is enraged and vows to make sure Josh never dates in their town again!

I could write about this romance but I don't want to give it all away. Both Jake & Claire have strong, fiery personalities which causes a few incidents with neither party willing to say I'm sorry. But the ending was perfect.

What a great start to the Happy Endings Book Club series. I am looking forward to Mad Campbell's story next and am hoping the tension between Hailey and Josh is continued before they finally get 'their' story!

All in all, a great romance.

I had really high hopes for this, and was really enjoying the story for the first parts of it. Then it went all down hill and can see why people DNF'd it.

Synopsis
Claire Jordan, a 29 year old actor, has just poured most of her money into the production of her latest movie. Sick of men only wanting her for the name and stardom, she's resigned herself to singledom. When her new friends encourage her to have a light, no strings attached date with an approved man, she decides to take the offer - in disguise.

Jake Campbell is a hot shot tech CEO who is sick of gold diggers and people only trying to get to his money. When he visits his twin brother, Josh, he learns his brother has a deal with a friend: take women on one, gentlemanly date. They decide to switch places so Jake can relax and be seen for his personality and not his money.

My thoughts
This started out so so well. They multi POV was fun and it was entertaining how they were both hiding who they really were. Up until about 50%, I was getting into the story and was finding it entertaining enough; even if I wasn't the biggest fan of either character.

Everything went incredibly downhill once Jake found out who Claire really was. He literally cared nothing for Claire, her feelings, her life. He could only think of his own arrogance and thoughts and never once listened to her. No matter how many times she tried to explain why speaking to the press about her and their relationship, he does so anyway. The arrogance wasn't cute or played off in any way that made it acceptable - it was nothing but an awful character feature. Nothing about it was redeemable and the switch from "Jake pretending to be Josh" to "business CEO Jake" was awful. He kept none of the personality or characteristics from beforehand, and he was just an awful, annoying person.

I also hated how much Hailey and everyone else kept putting Mad down. There is nothing wrong with not being overtly girly which this book heavily implies. Everyone keeps thinking Mad needs saving and to be pampered to be more like them, instead of just accepting her as she is. So what if she doesn't like dresses or heels, or doing her makeup? She is not less of a woman because of it and the constant reminder of her being "lesser" by everyone was one of the biggest reasons I was hating this book. If I do decide to continue the series (doubtful), I think I would fully skip one about Hailey. There was little about her I liked and her selfishness was so off-putting.

The romance was meh after the big reveal. The hike was cute and fun, the smut was well written when it happened. Afterwards, it was too angry and not in a passionate way. It was like they barely liked each other. They forgave each other far too quickly and said I love you (and got engaged) too soon for me. I really don't enjoy quick engagements/I love you's it just doesn't seem realistic. There wasn't enough time there for me to believe anything.

The writing is socially blind.

I read a lot. Like 350+ books this year and I have maybe only have written one bad review in my life for a book.

In all the books that I have read, not a single one has brought up the idea that the male protagonist's "mystery woman" was a man. The idea that an author in this day age has her character speak of something like this in such a manner is disgusting and gross.

"Maybe she used to be a man. All kinds of crazy shit came to him. But he knew she was all woman. It had been dark, but everything had been in the right place, and her responses were pure feminine bliss."

I am a HetCIS Female in a monogamous marriage and I have read all sorts of dark erotica that has pushed boundaries into the obscene. Not once have I been this offended. Whomever helped edit this book should really take a good hard look at themselves and wonder where it went wrong. This is awful. I one hundred percent do not recommend this type of morally absent writing. I had to put 1 * because Amazon refuses to let me write a review with one.

I got this book for free and still feel I have paid too much.

Ms. Gilmore spoke to my heart with Hidden Hollywood. The Happy Endings Book Club series begins on a high note with this energetic, playful and sincere bundle of feel good fun. An addiction to books and romance helped reel me in because any lover of books I would gladly befriend. Behind the glamour and wealth of big city lives, Claire and Jake have a simpleness on their minds. Matchmaking, a little slight of hand and let the masquerade begin. A person has to be made of stone to not find pleasure in the irresistible world that is Kylie Gilmore.

Claire is an actress making a movie. She Kong’s for a little normal in her life. She is in a book club and one member suggests she go on a date with her friend Josh. She thinks if she goes in disguise then no one will know it’s really her. But Josh has a twin brother Jake who ends up taking his place on the date. He owns a very successful company and is sick of all the people after him for his money. So he loves the idea of a normal girl on a normal date. Of course nothing is normal about these two. But they hit it off and soon enough they discover each other’s secrets. All is good in the end.

I really enjoyed meeting Jake Josh and Mad and look forward to getting to know the rest of the Campbell family. Claire and Jake have instant chemistry and even though they start off thinking that the other is someone completely different they very quickly sort out their differences. Hailey is a handful and I hope that in future she and Josh sort out their feeling for each other. The happy endings book club members will all hopefully get their own happy endings.

Definitely more of a lust story than a love story, but it was all right. The only thing that really kept me from actually enjoying it was the hero's inability to take the heroine's career or concerns for her own safety seriously.

Kylie Gilmore always manages to capture my heart with her stories full of quirky characters, sweet and in the same instance, sexy romances, and funny stories that I fall in love with. Hidden Hollywood debuts a new series from her, and just from the first book, I'm certain readers are in for a treat. Hidden Hollywood has a fun little trope of the twin switch and hidden identities.

Claire Jordan is a big time actress at the top of her game. What I adore about her is she's so easy to love. Claire is looking for a sense of normalcy, and it's something she finds in her new friends and the book club she joins while on location for her latest film. The *leader* of the club, if you will, is a bonafide matchmaker, and she currently has her sights set on Claire. So enter Jenny, Claire's *alter ego* Her escape into the normal world.

Claire and Jake, posing as two different people, have an instant attraction. What started out as one date turned into one night, and turned into a feeling neither could shake.

Through friendships and a romance between two lovers, Hidden Hollywood is full of sweet, spicy, and laugh out loud moments. There's characters to love and some not so much. I was all about to bug the author to find out if a certain character gets a story only to find out at the end that hers is next. YAY! Not that I need a matchmaking book club friend because I'm happily married, but this totally makes me want a book club of my own. Thank you once again, Kylie, for a story which is hard to put down.

Claire Jordan, a highly successful actress, longs to have a "normal" life. She loves her life and her job, she just wants a little bit of normal too. Claire confesses this desire to her Happy Endings Book Club gals. These are the first girlfriends she's ever truly had, so she decides to take Hailey up on her offer to have a "normal" date. Hailey is a hopeless romantic and believer in HEAs. So she sets up her friends in hopes that they will eventually marry and she can be their wedding planner. Hailey uses Josh, who she secretly has a crush on, for these dates. Josh goes on the "dates" in hopes of making Hailey jealous.

Josh's identical twin Jake comes home one weekend, tired of the corporate world. He'd like to meet a hometown girl who will love him for WHO he is, not how much money he makes. While home, Josh convinces Jake to go on one of the arranged dates while he takes out Hailey pretending to be "wealthy Jake". The date is with Claire, aka Jenny....

I really liked this novel. It speaks to unfounded perceptions, deceit, love, sacrifices, dreams, and numerous other emotions. It proves that money can't buy you true happiness! Happiness can only be found with the one you love more than anything! This novel has a HEA and is NOT a cliffhanger! I can't wait to hear more about Mad, Hailey, and Josh! Lastly, I loved the uniqueness of this novel. I haven't read a twin switch, contemporary romance novel before. Loved it! I read a gifted copy and all opinions expressed are my own.
