Making It Sizzle

Rate this book
“Me, settle down? No way, professor. But, if you want the best night of your life, I’m right next door.”

Landon Smith has a problem. He’s socially awkward, prefers coding over cocktails, and occasionally wears mismatched socks. His life is full, working as an adjunct professor at the local college, and volunteering as a tutor for underprivileged youths. Then his worst nightmare moves in next door to him, a macho ex-marine who just won’t leave him alone. They have nothing in common until the brawny man begs Landon to tutor him. He agrees, but only after Angel promises to keep his paws to himself.

Angel Perez is the devil, or at least that’s what Landon thinks. But, there’s something about how he fills his skin-tight jeans that Landon can’t get out of his head. And to make matters worse, he’s feeling emotions he never has before. The domineering man is determined to claim Landon, who is terrified of giving in to his urges.

Wow, all you need for a perfect read is one super talented writer, an incredibly handsome ex marine, and a nerdy handsome professor. Put them all together and you have this book. I loved it.

Love Changes Everything . . .

Angel Perez is an ex-marine who has moved next door to Landon Smith, a professor at the university. Landon is well aware of Angel’s fun times with his one-night-stands, since their bedrooms shared a common wall, and he can see Angel is a player. Landon admits that Angel is attractive, but he wants someone who is ready to settle down and someone he can trust with his heart.

But Angel decides he wants Landon, considers him a challenge, and asks him to tutor him so they can get to know each other. And when Angel’s parents come to see his new apartment and meet his “date”, it may have been a turning point. His mom privately told Landon how, despite Joe’s rough language, he had a side he showed only to her that made her love him so much. And Landon thought about Angel and watched for that same characteristic, especially when he behaved like a perfect gentleman. Will they both find what they are looking for in each other? Is Angel just pushing Landon because he likes the challenge? Or has Angel started to want something he never has before – someone to love forever?

This is a very entertaining story, with some romance and drama thrown in to make it serious. When Angel retires from the Marines, all he wants is to do as he pleases and have fun. Especially after his medical issue. He never wants to get tied down, one and done is his motto. Landon has had enough one night stands and flings to last a lifetime, he's ready to have a real relationship. It turns out they're neighbors, which is tortuous for both of them. Angel wants Landon in his bed, but only for a night. And Landon wants to be in Angel's bed, but refuses to be a one nighter. So Angel finds himself trying to become a romantic so that Landon will give in, then he realizes that he doesn't want just one night, he wants them all. Angel's dad will have you either laughing or groaning, he's a wild character.

What motivates a man who likes variety to slow down? Angel retires from the military and moves to Richmond to get a fresh start. As a one and done man, he is looking for new hunting ground. Landon, has had enough of men who don't see or appreciate him and is looking for his 'one'. Angel is not used to not getting a man when he wants him. Landon is strongly attracted, but sticking to his plan. Does Angel see Landon as a challenge? How long can Landon resist Angel considering they are next door neighbors? Angel's Dad is a hoot! Landon is dragging some serious parental baggage, will he resolve that or find closure? Lots of complicatiions. Can they get on the paths to solutions? Will Angel grow up? Nicely done. Angel and Landon are great guys and Angel's family is fun. Well done! I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Angel is a player. He is a hunky ex-marine who has moved next door to socially awkward Landon who happens to be an adjunct professor. They live very different social lives and Landon is wary of Angel because he has witnessed his neighbors shenanigans. But Angel wants Landon and pursues him. I think what I liked about this story is that once Angel finds a reason to want something long term he goes for him. In a lot of ways they both wanted to the same thing but took very different routes to get there or at least until they found the one. I gave this 4.5 stars.

The characters in the storyline were all well developed as was the setting of the storyline for the characters which flowed well. I was able to relate to all of the characters. I found this novel to be a thoroughly enjoyable read. I had trouble putting the book down to take breaks.

Even though I did receive an advanced copy, this is an honest review. I have received advanced copies of other books and left just mediocre reviews because that was all that they deserved. This book is worth your time reading if your looking for a good MM romance novel.

Sweet story of a nerdy professor taming a player. Landon spent his youth doing the quick hookups, but now he is looking for someone who wants more than just sex. Angel has his reasons for not looking for more than a one night stand, but when he meets Landon he can't stay away. Angel is a retired marine and self assured as a nude model. But when it comes to Landon, his awkwardness was endearing. His dad was also a hoot with his loud personality and words of wisdom. Quick read with very likeable characters.

I loved this work, it made me giggle and smile the whole way through. The dual point of view allowed me to see both sides of the story and want to shake both characters at the same time for being so stubborn. I loved the plot and the characters were colorful with amazing chemistry. I loved watching them come together and found it impossible to put this work down. Gotta say Angel's dad was one of my favorite side characters.

Five out of five stars.

Continuing this series I temporarily hit a tiny brick wall, the first two were good reads, this one however gave me a crossroad for a moment, do I struggle on or do I give up? Well, I struggled on and thankfully it got better, a lot better. My main problem at the start was Angel, he came across rather gross and for a while I just did not like him. Thankfully close to the halfway point things improved, vastly, and Angel became the kind of man that sweet Landon deserved. It's a nice read, two very different men and one totally outspoken, crazy Father.

They are both so different to each other but they will soon be living next door to each other. They are males and one is a teacher while the other needs their help in their studies. Will he help them out? Will it get steamy between them? See if it will

This was just ok for me. There were a couple of things that I didn't like....firstly the female best friend...I didn't like the way she spoke to Landon or how pushy she was. Secondly, when the MCs were having inner thoughts they were typed as though they were saying it out loud and talking to themselves. I found this super distracting. It was quite short and just kinda ok for me.
