Mendadak saya merasa ini saatnya saya bikin review serius untuk seri ini. Entah kenapa. Mungkin saya udah berhasil move on? Setelah setahun penuh sejak baca ini?

Anw, saya akhirnya membeli buku ini (awalnya gak bermaksud beli sama sekali, alasannya akan saya jelaskan belakangan) karena rentetan kebetulan yang bener-bener aneh (Dan saya suka kebetulan-kebetulan yang bertumpuk begini! Semacam ketemu jodoh soalnya!).

Jadi, saya kebetulan menemukan buku ini pas kebetulan diajak ke sebuah toko buku sama temen--yang juga kebetulan saya temui hari itu di tempat yang juga gak terduga.
Jadi, pertemuan saya dengan buku ini agak-agak romantis(?) gitu, bikin dia agak spesial.


Sebetulnya, buku Nakamura Asumiko yang ini banyak mengandung hal-hal yang saya gak suka--malah cenderung benci:
Incest, 3P incest!!, unfaithfulness, bad woman character, for me--worst ending, and... blindfolding.

Tapi!! Semua itu kayak lenyap dari kepala saya pas lihat sampulnya! ELEGAN!
Saya jatuh cinta pada pandangan pertama sama desain sampulnya. Cantik sekali. Kerasa seninya. Apalagi perpaduan background hitam, teks merah, dan obi (sayang, di contoh sampul di Goodreads ini gak ada obi-nya) perak.
Hitam + merah + perak = MEWAH ELEGAN = HARUS PUNYA.

Setelah beli ini, sepanjang perjalanan pulang saya dihantui perasaan: "Gue abis beli buku bejat". Ahahahaha.
Tapi, kalau boleh menggambarkan judul ini dalam satu kalimat, saya rasa ini lumayan tepat:
Kebejatan yang disajikan dengan elegan


Di awal udah saya bilang, saya gak berniat beli buku ini sama sekali, karena saya tau ceritanya ini terlampau bejat buat selera saya.
Inti ceritanya sih (Perhatian! Saya ngeringkasnya seenak jidat dan ber-spoiler): "Papa selingkuh sama Om (yang konon katanya saudara tiri, tanpa hubungan darah), Putra (yang rasa ingin tahunya besar khas remaja) melibatkan diri dalam perselingkuhan itu, akhirnya ketahuan Mama yang marah besar dan membalasnya dengan membuktikan bahwa Papa dan Om saudara kandung, Papa bunuh diri, Om depresi, dan Putra tumbuh jadi anak tukang mainin cewek (dan cowok).

Begitulah.
Tapi sepanjang cerita, ada kesan elegan dan artistik yang kuat (makanya saya bilang ini buku bejat yang disajikan secara elegan). Dan sejujurnya, meski udah punya bukunya pun saya gak pernah berani baca ulang (garis bawahi kata "berani") *tawa miris*
Kalau saya keluarin dari sangkar(?) pun, cuma buat dipuja-puja sampulnya yang mewah itu <3


Sentilan terakhir dari Sensei yang bikin saya pada awalnya gak ingin membeli buku ini adalah: ENDING.
Eksekusi ending-nya bikin saya kecewa dan naik pitam!!!
Pada dasarnya, untuk cerita-cerita BL yang dark dan twisted begini, saya cenderung lebih suka dengan eksekusi ending dari Ogawa Chise dibandingkan Nakamura Asumiko.

Eksekusi ending buku ini tuh berasa "melarikan diri". Pengarangnya melarikan diri. Tokohnya melarikan diri. Padahal pembaca gak bisa ngejar mereka.
Kalau saya bilang dalam kata-kata sendiri sih, ending buku ini: ending Romeo dan Juliet yang gagal.
Saya mah tipe yang sealiran(?) dengan Ogawa Chise yang lebih senang dengan ending: "Kalau udah terlanjur bejat, yasudah jadilah makin bejat" lololol
Biasanya Chise ngasih open ending atau loop ending, di mana para tokoh yang tanpa sengaja terjerembab dalam kegelapan, tersesat dan gagal keluar dari kegelapan itu meski udah berusaha sekuat tenaga, dan akhirnya memilih untuk tetap menjalani hidup di dalam kegelapan itu--bukannya mengakhiri hidup kayak ending yang dipilih Asumiko di sini.

Tapi tetep aja ini buku yang gak bisa saya lupain--bahkan bisa-bisanya menghantui saya supaya bikin review serius(?) setelah setahun!!
Oke, nih! Udah gua bikinin review sepenuh hati! Puas? Jangan ngehantuin gua lagi!!

Oke, sebenarnya ini sudah kuresensi sblmnya, tapi aku pgn update feed lagi for the sake of its gorgeous cover!!! XDDD Sayang cover sebagus ini ga dipamerin. Mana isinya juga WOW and MINDBLOWING bgt, hahaha. Langsung jadi favoritku deh, hehe. Fujoshi yg masih newbie mending jangan baca buku ini duluan, bisa bikin kamu trauma ntar, hehehe.

Kaori no Keishou/The Inheritance of Aroma.

Imo, judulnya tuh harusnya "Fetish". Semua pria dlm manga ini punya fetish. Body odor/smell fetish, blindfold fetish, voyeurism, pedophilia. Kalo voyeurism ini umum ditemui, menurutku hampir semua org punya fetish yg satu ini. Termasuk para fujoshi yg suka yaoi, lol.
Eh, jangan kira cuma para pria dan fujoshi yg pervert loh, otaku cewek yg bkn fujoshi aja diam2 senang baca yg ecchi dan hentai, sering tuh kuliat di Facebook cewek2 beli komik2 hentai original (mksdnya asli bhs Jepang). Bahkan kuliat ada cewek yg langganan baca komik hentai di situs hentai, hahaha. So, cewek2 tuh diam2 voyeurism juga, cuma mereka ga mau ngaku saja, hahaha. :p

Nah, sebenarnya sih setelah kelarin vol 1 ini *krn bakalan ada vol 2 ini kayanya*, kurasa Shinobu itu bkn bnr2 punya blindfold fetish. Blindfold itu semacam simbol gitu. Dari yg kutangkap itu, sbnrnya Shinobu itu punya konflik batin. Dia benci Takezou, tapi juga cinta Takezou. Dia benci krn Takezou itu adik tirinya yg masuk ke keluarganya bersama mama barunya. Tapi dia juga benci dgn dirinya sendiri yg bisa punya perasaan lebih pada pria dan pada Takezou pula.
Tapi, sejak episode perdana blindfold dimulai, dia mulai menggunakan penutup mata itu utk menipu dirinya sendiri, menutup mata pada kenyataan, bahwa dia sedang bercinta dengan Takezou, adik tirinya. Dan sebenarnya Takezou itu bnr2 berhubungan darah dgnnya itu bkn kejutan besar sih buatku. Takezou dan Shinobu sudah tau atau pura2 tdk tau pun bkn masalah besar juga bagiku. Ketebak banget soalnya. *terlalu banyak baca buku, hahaha*
Sekarang bom sudah dijatuhkan istri Shinobu yg akhirnya tau affair mereka. Aku penasaran apa yg akan terjadi di vol 2.

Omong2, yg paling bikin aku kaget adalah Kaname-kun, anaknya Shinobu. Anak2 jaman sekarang apa sudah sehancur ini kah?? I hope not. Masih kecil gitu sudah tau arti masokis. Entah deh di real life ada anak kecil seperti ini. Temanku yg sudah merit malah ga tau arti masokis waktu dgr kata itu. Tapi ya memang tmnku itu kan ga pernah baca atau ntn plot cerita yg twisted2 gitu, juga ga hobi baca buku, sukanya ntn sinetron Indo atau drama Korea dan opera sabun lainnya. Malah dia nganggap aku itu innocent. Not innocent anymore sejak kenal yaoi, lol. Walah, coba kalo dia liat isi komik ini, bisa muntah kali. Sudah gay, ada threesome, incest pula, incest-nya pun ga tanggung2 lagi. So, buat yg ga tahan cerita incest, mending jgn baca yg satu ini. Lol.

(Let's review the manga I actually paid for, shall we?)

Kaori no Keishou was 7th in the Kono BL ga Yabai list of 2016. For those not in the know (like me, because I'm totally out of the loop with things BL) Kono BL ga Yabai is the BL version of the Kono Manga ga Sugoi awards, where critics and fans vote on their top manga picks for the year. Yabai is kind of a hard thing to translate and I'm not sure I understand it fully as a slang, but yabai literally means 'dangerous'. Hang gliding? Yabai. Deadline for an important paper tomorrow and you only have half of it done? Yabai. But it also appears in slang as a sort of equivalent of 'damn son'. A burger the size of your head with all the works and some milkshake? Yabai. This super cute BL manga? Yabai. A manga with sex in every chapter? Yabai. There's definitely a lot of tongue in cheek humour going on here, especially from a group of fans who call themselves fujoshi/fudanshi/fujin.

But back to Kaori no Keishou.

Nakamura Asumiko has a very wide range when it comes to her works, from the sheer fluffiness of Doukyuusei (which is steadily getting more 'mature' as the characters grow older) to the fucked up shit that is Copernicus no Kokyuu (J no Subete is not far behind, but for maximum fucked up levels I defer to Copernicus no Kokyuu). Kaori no Keishou is somewhat close to Copernicus rather than Doukyuusei.

It's about stepbrothers Takezou and Shinobu. Shinobu is the only son of a very rich family (think traditional Japanese mansion and family business). One day Shinobu's father married again and this new wife already had a son (who is ofc Takezou). Shinobu didn't take very kindly to having an upstart brother who wasn't even related to him by blood, let alone share a house with the son of a gold digger, but such is life.

The manga starts with Shinobu yelling at Takezou for being a useless adult: Takezou has his own restaurant but isn't doing very well and had to ask his brother for money. Takezou is convinced his brother hates him and wallows a bit in self pity. Kaname, Shinobu's young son, watches his uncle writhe a bit and goes 'You like father, don't you?' And in typical fucked up BL manga aplomb devises a plan to have his uncle have sex with his dad (involving blindfolds, lace gloves, and his mother's perfume). This happens quite smoothly and Takezou does get the money that he wanted, but Shinobu tells him never to show his face again.

I thought that chapter was a one-shot and we'll never really see these characters again, but apparently not. I really loved that chapter and vowed that I'll buy the tankobon when it comes out. Which I did... 3 years after. But we got there.

There's a lot happening in Kaori no Keishou. The recurring metaphor here is the fragrance/scent/aroma (Uh, I think the title translates to Inheritance of Aroma? Kaori is definitely scent): the perfume Kaname gives Takezou, the scent of Shinobu left on his bedsheets etc. We abandon the scent metaphor later on in book 2 where we focus more on the blindfold aspect of their relationship, but here it's definitely in full force. (And the blindfold also just makes the scent stand out after all: you tend to focus on your other senses when you can't see a thing.)

Of course, the fact that they're stepbrothers (one of whom is married) adds to the Yabai-ness of this manga. At some point Kaname stops finding pleasure in sex and asks his uncle to let him watch Takezou fucking his dad. Definitely yabai! Takezou is carried away by the currents of his feelings and desire for Shinobu while Shinobu is both drawn to his brother and trying his best to do the right thing. And fails. Sorry Shinobu.

Her stories are witty, Gothic erotic, psychologically heavy, taboo ridden, tragic; and most importantly, Cleansing.

Kaori No Keishou, Inheritance Of The Aroma, Is a Two Part story about The story of Shinobu & His relationship with his step brother, Takezou. Both Past, present, and future.

Saying anymore will be a disservices to the reader to be. therefore, let me explain what you're getting from this delirious read.

you got two. none blood related brothers who faking themselves in order to pass their life by. The son of the stern, first son, who knows more about his dad & brother's illicit, depraved fetish.

The past incidents that brought the two unlikely brothers closer; and the plot twist in the semi final chapters.

yes. it's not a simple erotic read. it's a smart, deep, disturbing, and wholesomely dark entertainment read .

Am currently re-reading it for the third time. great books forces to re-read them again & again.

I know a lot of people can take or leave Nakamura's manga style, but honestly I love her linework, and her illustrations and sense of atmosphere and ambience are incredible. Not to mention that it's always combined with fascinating (if very painful) storylines, this is another in a great line of powerful, transporting works.

Je suis une fan depuis de longues années d’Asumiko Nakamura. Je l’ai découvert en anglais avec son sombre Utsubora et j’ai poursuivi en français avec Doukyosei et tous ses autres titres, que j’ai tous adorés. Mais là, ça m’est vraiment compliquée de vous parler positivement de ce titre qui vient de sortir chez Hana, tant il est moralement problématique…

L’éditeur avait bien fait les choses avec les triggers warning nécessaires sur la 4e de couverture. Il n’y a donc aucune tromperie sur la marchandise. Je savais qu’il serait question de viol, inceste et scènes de sexe explicites. Je ne m’attendais cependant pas à ce que ça aille aussi loin dans le moralement répréhensible non dénoncé, car sous prétexte de dramaturgie, l’autrice va très loin. Trop loin ?

Tout le questionnement est là quand on lit ce titre : jusqu’où êtes-vous prêt à aller pour vivre un drame entre deux frères par alliance qui taisent leur désir et ne peuvent l’exprimer que dans des simulacres de viols et autres moments légèrement BDSM, le tout sous le regard consentant du fils de l’un d’eux parfois ?!

J’avoue que moi, je n’ai pas pu. Oui la mise en scène graphique de l’autrice est belle. Comme toujours avec elle, c’est une vrai virtuose quand il s’agit de dramatiser une scène par travers ses crayons d’une belle et profonde noirceur. Le pinceau court et transperce les pages pour nous. Les émotions des personnages coulent à travers les pages avec ce rapport intrinsèque au fluide qu’on lui connaît. Mais est-ce que ça suffit à faire oublier un sujet moralement plus que douteux ? Non.

Les amateurs de Dark Romance trouveront certainement leur plaisir ici. Moi, dès le début quand le fils de Shinobu piège son père pour permettre à son frère par alliance Takezo de le violer, j’ai compris que ce ne serait pas possible. Déjà, je trouve cela d’un surréalisme complet, ce qui m’a empêché d’entrer dans l’histoire. Mais en plus que son oncle le laisse assister à la scène en étant dans la même chambre ? Impossible !

Je n’ai donc pas du tout aimé l’histoire. Je trouve les personnages totalement caricaturaux, de Takezo qui pleurniche de trop et est l’homme fade et faible par excellence, en passant par Shinobu et sa froideur de prince lointain. On dirait un pauvre hommage aux vieux mangas se déroulant dans des internats de garçons. En plus, ce n’est qu’un enchaînement de chapitres conduisant immanquablement à leurs coucheries, avec juste quelques réminiscences venant entrecouper cela et approfondir, si on veut, leur psychologie. C’est extrêmement prévisible.

Première réelle déception pour moi avec Asumiko Nakamura, ce que je ne pensais pas voir arriver. Je n’aime pas du tout la toxicité des Dark Romances et on est en plein dedans. L’autrice abuse de son goût pour la dramaturgie pour mettre en scène une histoire bien trop glauque et malaisante impliquant viol, voyeurisme par un enfant et inceste. C’est trop. Le plaisir à rendre le drame beau sous un pinceau ne justifie pas tout.

No se qué acabo de leer, pero me ha dejado tan flipada y revuelta que sí, lo compro.

Violación? Abuso sexual explícito a un menor? Incesto padre/hijo? Algo más?

No en serio, qué? Cuando leí la sinopsis desde luego no me esperaba nada de esto.

Osea Shinobu es un cobarde de mierda que ha tratado fatal a Takezo toda su vida porque no se atreve a decirle lo que siente, mientras Takezo ha aguantado de todo porque le adora. Y resulta que una noche Takezo viola a Shinobu y a partir de ahí Shinobu le busca, se tapa los ojos para fingir que no sabe que es él y lo vuelven a hacer. Hasta ahí un poco (bastante) tóxico pero guay, interesante.

Pero qué coño ha sido lo del hijo????? Ese crío es un genio del mal, literalmente quema los ojos de su padre para que lleve una venda que permita que Takezo lo toque haciéndose pasar por su mujer porque "es divertido". Que tendrá, 13 años? Y le pide a su tío que le deje ver como se tira a su padre?????? Y PARTICIPA. Casi se me cae el manga al suelo porque jesus no me lo esperaba para NADA.

El dibujo me parece súper original. Y pa que nos vamos a engañar, me ha enganchado un montón. Me voy a leer el segundo.

Here’s to another tear jerker by one of my favorite manhwas. Absolutely beautiful, i know this may be an unpopular opinion, but I believe the ending was executed to perfection, as it is only natural that it perfectly complements the authors style. I cried for like straight up 15 minutes the first time i read it and finished it and kept wailing “whyyyy died he diiieeee” and “where did that truck come frommm” and “ why did he even leeeave” and “ was he gonna commit suicide” and all the rest. After airing out my denial i realised there was not much of a better way to end it sadly:(. With shinobus disposition i find it hard to imagine of a ending where they were both happy go lucky sharing there lives together by the beach, he was just too fucked up (all of them actualy) . I think this story is really realistic in a sense.

És fortíssim el talent que té aquesta dona per narrar històries tèrboles, punyents, plenes de tabús (en aquest cas, l'incest) i armar personatges complexos, carregats de contradiccions, però al capdavall humans i versemblants. Si a tot això li sumem unes il·lustracions magistrals, obtenim un relat corprenedor i ben memorable.
