if you thought the first book was crazy you are in for a shock. the story of Vince and Cora continues. Cora in the mortal realm and Vince in the astral realm of reapers. i really enjoyed this book but i also did enjoy book 1. it's a rollercoaster ride but thats makes this book so entertaining. I also loved how the characters evolve and how Cora and Vince never really give up on each other, regardless of how difficult it is! The magic system that the author has created is so well done and brilliant to read about. The story is progressing nicely and is fast paced and keeps you wanting more. I am completely invested in seeing where the story goes next in book 3. hihihihi
The Angel’s Vow is the second part in the Bloodcaster Chronicles by R.L. perez. In the first part called The Demon’s Kiss the reader could already meet Cora, Vince and their friends. The story ended with a huge cliffhanger, which made me very curious about this second part. But will this part be just as good?
Now that Vince has become a reaper, being with Cora seems harder than ever. He must unleash, control and understand his new powers in order to become worthy and pledge the vow. But this is not without a struggle. His mother is very present, and when the reapers are attacked by a thief, their safe realm also seems to be dangerous. Their realm is taken over by this thief who steals magic from the dead, and Vince and the reapers are forced to go to Earth where he meets Cora again. Cora is now the leader of the coven, but struggles to lead them properly. She too was aware of the thief, and when she makes a shocking discovery, she and Vince must do everything in their power to stop the thief. Who is this thief? Will Cora and Vince be able to stop him? Can they count on the support of the reapers and the coven?
Where in The Demon’s Kiss the storylines quickly became one, this book starts with 2 separate storylines. As a result, the story may not tie in ideally with the first part. The Angel’s Vow has a slow start, with little tension. But once you get into the story, R.L. Perez to bring the storylines together a little more and also to build up the tension.
I've been a big fan of R.L Perez's work. I am an ARC reader for her sometimes (Disclaimer, I am writing this in the future and do not remember if this was an ARC)
I love the worlds Perez creates. Her fantasy books are face paced and addictive and this is no different. We have a strong female character who is also an assassin (Which personally, I think we need more books with FMC assassins) and shes stuck trying to kill a new target who isnt at all what she expected.
Is this book a little predictable? Yes. Its still well written and very enjoyable though!
I liked this one a lot, but not as much as the first. Still loved the world and characters, but I missed the romance build up from the first book. Still going to read book three though!
this was better than the first book but still read amateur. events were scattered, and transitions were non existant. the ideas for this series are good, but the writing falls flat.
Vince is now a Reaper, reapers are dark angels who preserve the magic in the universe and help the souls of the dead pass on. He is reunited with his mother, who is inducting him, but he struggles to fit in and understand his new role in life. He once again feels trapped and is yearning for Cora.
Meanwhile Cora has taken over the leadership of Damien’s demon coven, but is struggling with the demands that come with the position and keeping the loyalty and respect of the coven members. She misses her straight forward life as assassin and she misses Vince.
As both protagonists struggle with their new roles and responsibilities, a new threat in form of a power hungry bloodcaster rises and Vince and Cora are trying to unite Reapers, Demons and Time Keepers to fight off this foe and save the universe from annihilation.
Old friends are called upon, and new alliances have to be formed to save all realms from devastation.
In this book the emphasis seemed to be on Vince rather than Cora, and I became far more invested in his progression than in Cora’s. I really enjoyed this shift elevating the male protagonist to the lead character, though this may just be my interpretation and not intended. Never the less both Vince and Cora step up to the mark and they mature and develop into their roles and responsibilities, as does their love for each other.
As usual, all the characters, old and new, are well rounded and vividly brought to life and there is plenty of action, drama and some romance. This time the adventure leaves us on a cliff hanger with both of them facing a very uncertain future...
Alyssa Ratkovich continues as narrator, which provides continuity and I greatly appreciate. Once again she does a lovely job and changes her voice to distinguish between characters pretty well. I did criticise Alyssa about her male voices in the first book, so maybe I was a bit harsh then or she has improved or I’m more used to her voice – regardless, it was a pleasure to listen to the narration.
I received this book in audio-book format from the author and am leaving this review of my own volition.
The story of Vince and Cora continues with Cora living in the Mortal realm and Vince in the Astral realm of reapers. He does have his warlock powers of beng able to shift to the Mortal realm, however, so he has been able to see Cora once before an assault on on their realm by an unknown person forces him to transport a group of reapers to the Mortal realm to prevent them from being killed. Unfortunately the person in question is in the Mortal realm as well and when his identity is revealed Cora Is shocked!
The battle between good and evil, freedom verses enslavement , commences and it doesn’t look good for our heroes but luckily book three is on the wings to continue the battle!
R.L. Perez writes a story that captivates the reader and it is so easy to feel you are there where all the action is taking place!! I heartily recommend this series to everyone young or old who loves books about the paranormal and romance between two unlikely people much like Romeo and Juliet.
This page turning delight will keep you entertained and so hooked on the story that the questions left unanswered at its conclusion will gnaw on you until book three comes out! You must read book one first because each book builds on the previous one and you’ll miss so much if you just start with this one. So be good to yourself and get both books so you’ll be ready when the third one comes out!
So good! If you thought the first book was crazy you are in for a shock. Cora and Vince are back for more.
After renouncing the Nephilim to become a Reaper, Vince has to go through a rough change and the realisation that maybe he got out of the frying pan to dive straight into the fire. Did he make wrong decision, dragging Jocelyn right along with him? Did he leave Cora with no way to get back to her for nothing? What's happening to the souls? Will anything make sense again!?
Cora the lone assassin is now the leader of a whole coven of demons and her secret is now a widely known fact. Between piles of paperwork, Damien's followers causing trouble, and her coven not trusting her, she also has to wonder if she'll ever see Vince again. Are any of the sacrifices they made even worth this?
Well Vince and Cora are gonna have to figure all that out and do it fast because there's a new enemy coming and it threatens to rip apart the fabric of the universe and guess who has to fix it? That's right! Cora and Vince are caught right smack in the middle of it.
Feel the sexual tension (as per usual), run straight into chaos, if you're looking for adventure you found it. New Adult Urban fantasy filled with action, angels, demons, witches, telepaths, werewolves, vampires, reapers, time travel, it's all here and it's Awesome!
The Angel’s Vow is the follow up to The Demon’s Kiss. I really enjoyed this story and now I can’t wait for the third installment to see the conclusion of Cora and Vince’s story. I felt like this book was a bridge in essence. It follows Cora and Vince as they attempt to adjust to their roles. Both long for simpler times and wish for circumstances to be different, especially because due to their responsibilities they aren’t able to be together. As if Vince didn’t do enough maturing in book one, he’s forced to evaluate his circumstances and more importantly, live with and accept the consequences of his actions. He is so determined to mark out his own way and not feel as though his hand is being forced regardless of the decisions he makes. There is a definite cliff hanger in book two that will make book three an adventure as he explores the consequences of his latest decision. Cora too has more maturing to do. She is thrust into the role of leader when for so long she was essentially a foot soldier given orders and following without questions. Now she has to decide how she wants to lead her coven. As she comes into her own she is forced into an undesirable situation that will truly test her development as a leader. I can’t wait to see how Cora and Vince will overcome their odds and not only attempt to save their people but their relationship as well!
Demons, werewolves, an existential battle. Star crossed lovers? Sign me up.
I was fortunate to get to ARC read this novel along with it's prequel. This novel follows Cora and Vince after Cora takes over the coven and Vince becomes a reaper due to rejecting the Nephilim vow. Cora is chained to a desk (metaphorically) and Vince is not allowed to leave his new realm. However both clans are facing formidable enemies, the only way to conquer is to join forces.
This novel was a little slow for me to start, but I've also been going through a reading slump so it may have only been slow for me. It got very fast paced and exciting in the later parts of the novel diving into a huge cliff hanger and now I am desperate for the 3rd novel because I want to know what happens!
I'm really enjoyed learning more about Vince and his powers. This man is like a superhero, it seems as though you could throw any magic at him and he would become an natural at it and surpass every expectation in wheedling it. I also find his connection to the timekeepers fascinating.
All in all I really enjoyed this book and I can't wait to continue the series!
Thank you R.L. Perez for the ARC copy of the second book in the Bloodcaster Chronicles.
The angel's vow continues from where we left in book 1 after Vince became a reaper and Cora a coven leader. Now in the Astral realm, Vince finally gets some answers from his mother but those might not be so pretty after all. Being a reaper is harder that what our hero expected and everything goes downhill when a thief gets in their same and protected realm and starts stealing the magic of the reapers. I like that Vince gets a bit of character development and that he still tries to help everyone even if that means breaking the rules. I like that he owns up to his mistakes and takes the necessary steps to correct the wrongs he did. Meanwhile, Cora struggles with her coven and her new found responsibilities. She really tries to fit in and please her coven after a bloody demonstration of power makes for bad than good. I liked that she had Benny helping her and that the single player she was learns to care about the needs of others. The villain of the story was so unexpected and his past left me wanting the next book even harder.
Most series end in a cliffhanger but this one is on a par with the TV series Dallas when JR was shot! Totally blew my mind! But let me start at the beginning of the book...Vince's desperation is tangible throughout the book, as he tries to make sense of his new life, of his mother, of his role in this new world, yet another pledge he has to make. His ultimate goal is to somehow return to Cora and vows to find a way. Cora, on the other hand, is totally overwhelmed by her new duties as leader of her clan and her turmoil is so realistically portrayed as she tries to reconcile her emotions with her duties. Her loss of Vince is tangible as she struggles to come to terms with it. The tension and drama was palpable. The romantic interludes were skillful and powerful, without any soppiness. And the surprises throughout, the twists, the unexpected was absolutely awesome! Kept me guessing and totally flabbergasted by the end! A stunning read!
Fantastic book, I fell in love with several of the characters in this. The storyline is so darn good it had me drawn in to the point of forgetting to sleep, I thought I was gonna stop breathing at some of the plot twists. This is definitely one of those books that keeps you guessing, Cora is such a well written main character. She's dangerous and feisty, feared by everyone. Yet she has vulnerabilities that she hides well, I love how she can hold her own in fights. Vince is not your usual tough guy, he's unsure of himself and constantly questioning his abilities. It's so refreshing to have a male who isn't perfect in every way, then there's Benny and luke. Both are interesting and hot, so different one is tough and fierce, the other is a bit skittish and not good in a fight. This is something I loved, I also really loved the switch between p.o.v's and the heartstopping cliffhanger at the end.
I loved it but I’m not going to lie, Vince got on my nerves. I had to tell myself it’s typical teenager behavior because it really is. At first I felt for him because he viewed becoming a Reaper as being in another prison, I could see it. But Jocelyn changed that because she said everyone with magic have laws to follow. I felt like he was complaining too much about the choices he made. However, I love that he wants to protect everyone with magic, he doesn’t feel that he’s better than anyone because of his powers, he doesn’t want to hide or runaway. I love Cora, she had so much awesome character growth. She went from this killing machine to a leader, the girl is badass for being able to do that. We see Hector again and to be honest I’m not sure how to feel about him. I don’t know if he can be trusted, I love the whole bad guy turned good thing but it’s Hector. Like always the ending has me wanting more and I can’t wait for book three.
Narrator did a good job; I didn’t care for her Benny voice, but she gave a quality performance. I enjoyed the listen.
Book 2 starts with Vince in the Reaper realm, where he may become a reaper, but he’s having second thoughts about it and is missing Cora something fierce. He does come across as a bit whiny, but he’s a good guy. Things take a crazy turn, when someone with evil intentions starts causing mayhem in the Reaper realm. The big bad ends up causing issues for pretty much everyone. On top of all that jazz, Cora is trying to run a demon clan that thinks she’s a terrible person, so they are adding stress to her life. Plus, she’s also missing Vince something fierce too! Luckily, Benny is there for support with the clan; especially when it seems like there may be a traitor in the clan. I like Cora’s sass and her kicking booty attitude. Plus, she has some cool magic! Vince too! Enjoy the time traveling aspect. Interesting action too! Looking forward to reading the next book!
Huh! 😳 a lot is happening in this book and you need to keep your wits about you. I do enjoy the 2 POVs we get, thank you! This was full on with what is happening in both the Mortal Realm with Cora and Astral with Vince. We get a surprise visit from someone I just knew would show up somehow, and I do like what the author has done with Benny's arc - secretly I hope something comes from it. I feel for Vince - decisions have consequences and we don't always know what those consequences will be. I sometimes though do lose track of the ages of Vince an Cora....they seem wise beyond their years. This was a non-stop roller coaster ride which I highly recommend to anyone... enough surprises and twists that kept me fully engaged and I finished this in one sitting. Well written and in dire need of book 3 already!
This series is so good! Book 2 did not disappoint. The story picks up right where we leave off in Book 1. Vince is now a Reaper and is stuck in another realm. Cora is the coven leader and trying to keep her city intact and constituents happy. The story is full of twists and turns, which makes it hard to put the book down. We are introduced to a new bad guy. He is a true villain. We learn more about Cora’s past and it explains so much about her powers and how she reacts to people. I enjoyed her journey in this book, from being just an assassin who kills first and asks questions second, to a competent coven leader. The side characters in this book are just as interesting as the main duo of Cora and Vince. I loved getting to know more about their backstories. The final few chapters are an absolute roller coaster. I cannot wait to see what happens in the next book.
Thank you R.L. Perez for gifting me the ARC of both the books. I loved them. They are really wonderful. Looking forward to read the third book soon.
BOOK REVIEW: The Angel’s Vow is the second part in the Bloodcaster Chronicles by R.L. perez. In the first part called The Demon’s Kiss the reader could already meet Cora, Vince and their friends. The story ended with a huge cliffhanger, which made me very curious about this second part. But will this part be just as good?
The story of Vince and Cora continues. Cora in the mortal realm and Vince in the astral realm of reapers. i really enjoyed this book but i also did enjoy book 1. it's a rollercoaster ride but thats makes this book so entertaining. I also loved how the characters evolve and how Cora and Vince never really give up on each other, regardless of how difficult it is!!
This is the second book in the Blood caster Chronicles. I absolutely loved the first book. In the first book we got to meet our two main characters Cora and Vince, in the first book we get to slowly not only meet and get to know these character but we also got to see them start their friendship and them developing feelings toward each-other.
Vince has now become a reaper and Cora becomes go leader of the coven. Vince and Cora are both struggling with their responsibilities and just with themselves in general.
I absolutely loved this book. If you are looking for a book with some action/adventure and a fantasy book that includes demons, angels, witches, vampires, warewolves, time travel, etc.. then you are absolutely going to love this book. It’s such a good, quick read. I recommend it to everyone😊
Wow, what an amazing second part to the series. You learn about two Realms the Mortal Realm and Astral Realm. Along with learning about the Realms, you get to see how much Cora and Vince have matured. You will also find out that becoming a Reaper may not be what Vince though it would be. During this amazing adventure, you will follow Cora and Vince into war with Quentin. You will also find out who Quentin is and what makes him so special and why another war has been started. Vince is also met with another power that he realizes that he has. Will he choose this new power, or will he stay a Reaper? Will Cora and Vince win the war, or will Quentin? All these question and more will he answered in book three. I can’t wait to jump into the third and final book of the Bloodcaster Cronicles. It has been such an amazing adventure.
Oh wow! This really keeps you on you toes. It has so much happening. There are surprises that have you say wow! I didn’t expect that. It is extremely well written and the characters are growing beautifully. Cora and Vince has decisions to make throughout the story. They need to figure out how to proceed and what the right decision is going to be. The second book is excellent and had me unable to put it down. I had to find out what happens. The cliffhanger of an ending surprised me as I did not expect that to occur. This is an absolute must read and it doesn’t disappoint. I can’t wait to see what is going to happen in book 3.
I am loving this series so far. Bloodcasters, witches, nephilim, reapers and so many more awesome types of characters.
Cora & Vince are both amazing characters in their own ways. Cora is fierce and badass & Vince is loyal & more powerful then he thinks. They fit together so perfectly & I will be so sad if they can’t find a way to be together. I also love that we get both of their POVs.
The magic system that the author has created is so well done and brilliant to read about. The story is progressing nicely and is fast paced and keeps you wanting more. I am completely invested in seeing where the story goes next.
The Angels Vow is the second installment in the Blood Caster Chronicles by R.L Perez and this is just as amazing as the first book The Demons Kiss.
This book picks up where the Demons kiss left off and brings in even more world building. R.L Perez has created an amazing Urban Paranormal world with amazing characters. Along with a great fantasy story line with war, good vs evil, we also have a romance story. The relationship between Cora and Vince is explored more - but will these two ever actually be able to be together? So much is standing in the way.
And just a warning This book does end on a cliff hanger!! I can’t wait for book 3 - I need to know what happens!!!
"The Angel's Vow" is the second book in the Bloodcaster Chronicles. Cora is still on Earth leading her demon coven. Vince is in another realm trying to adjust to his new life as a reaper. Luckily for him, he still has his warlock abilities.
Someone is stealing the magic from the souls of the dead. When tragedy occurs on the other realm, Vince runs to Cora on Earth for her help.
I enjoyed "The Angel's Vow" more than the first novel, "The Demon's Kiss". The pulse pounding action, danger and suspense in this one keeps you on the edge of your seat! Cora and Vince both face perilous choices. I can't wait to find out how the story concludes!
This was a great follow up to The Demon's Kiss. The ending of book one and start of book two are easy to follow and I felt like The Angel's Vow was a good bridge before the conclusion. You get to see more advancement of Cora and Vince as well as how they begin to fit into their new roles. They still have some growing to do which I am sure we will seen in the conclusion! Beware that there is a cliffhanger! Other than that enjoy a great read!
Exciting Story!! I listened to this book with my breath held. It is an action-packed story filled with untold danger and intrigue that will suck you into a riveting plot line that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I highly recommend this author to all lovers of action-packed fantasy stories filled with danger and a hint of romance. The narrator for the audio version does an excellent job of bringing this story to life.
With Cora and Vince separated by realms this book seems like two stories coming into one. While Cora is having issues with being the new coven leader, Vince is having issues becoming a reaper. Even though his mom is there to help him through things are not as they seem. Time gets bendy and twisty as well as Cora dealing with someone from her past that is not welcome. Steady paced story.
