Erin Havoc has written a 5-star book. This is the story of Kayla and Asher. Asher has just lost another Executive assistant. He has Michaella put another ad out for one. He put one in the window of the bakery. Kayla has just moved from Seattle to Shadow Falls and has stopped at the bakery for a cup of coffee when she walks into the bakery, there is a man there and he asks "Who are you?" She thinks he is a jerk and very rude. Even with him being rude, she feels an attraction to him. Asher is a bear shifter and his bear thinks that the woman they just saw is his mate. Asher doesn't have time or wants a mate. He is too busy getting ready to open another bakery up in Boston. Kayla leaves the bakery and goes to her friend Sabrina's house. Kayla tells her about the rude man and is told that it is Asher and he is always like that. The next day, Kayla goes back to the bakery and before she goes in, she sees the help wanted ad for the executive assistant. Asher is the only one working the counter and she asks him about the job. He tells her what is involved and tells her to be there the next morning at seven. Asher calls himself all kinds of a fool for hiring Kayla since his bear wants her as their mate. Asher knows that he can't have Kayla since she is human. Humans and bears don't mate with each other. Kayla is not just a human, she is a Nature witch. Kayla shows up at the office and at first, things don't go so well. Asher doesn't explain things too well. After she gets how things are done, she settles in and Asher can't complain about her work. even if he tries to. Asher finally gives in about his bear wanting to be with Kayla. They sleep together but then Asher gets a phone call saying that the bakery in Boston just burnt down. Asher thinks that if he had not been with Kayla, the bakery wouldn't have burnt down. He pushes her away. Kayla thinks that they had something good and now her heart is broken. Asher has been gone for a week and he has thought about Kayla the whole time. When Asher gets back home, he goes to the office in his home. Nick, his friend comes and tells him they are going out to the bar. At the bar, Nick tells him that he is a fool for rejecting Kayla. Asher tells him that he has no time for a mate. He needs to work on building up the bakery that his parents started. Nick tells him that his father built the bakery so that he could see Asher's mom smile more and so that the town could see how amazing she was. Asher remembers how his day used to look at his mom and how happy they were together. Nick tells him that a mate is the most important thing to a shifter. It finally sinks in for Asher. He needs to find Kayla and apologize to her for the way he treated her. She may not give him a chance. After leaving the bar, Asher needs to let his bear out and run. He is in the forest when a deer comes up to him and doesn't run away. It looks at him like it wants him to follow him. Asher thinks this is not normal so he follows the deer. The deer keeps looking back to see if Asher is still behind him. The deer stops and walks around something and Asher barely stops at the edge of the hole. He looks into the hole and he sees Kayla hanging onto a root. He asks "Are you alright?" Kayla looks up and can't believe it's Asher. "Asher, is it really you?" Asher jumps into the hole to be with Kayla. She tells him that they are both stuck in the hole. Asher tells her that he will climb out with her. She will just have to hold on tight. "So, all I have to do is trust you. Again?" "You threw me away like garbage." Asher tells her that he is sorry and that he will do anything from that day on to earn her trust again. Asher shifts back into his bear and as soon as Kayla is on his back, he starts to climb. Once they are solid ground, he tells her that he was a fool for letting her go. She was the best thing that happened to him in a long time, and she made him want to be a better man. He tells her that he needs her.
After the way that Asher treated Kayla, will she give him another chance?
