A witch with a backbone.
A bear who doesn't take no for an answer.
A grumpy boss romance.

Kayla's mother has just passed away.
Instead of allowing grief to swallow her, she packs up and moves into Shadow Falls. The haven for supernaturals. The one place she can be herself.
The city is a dream. But the first person she meets is more like a nightmare.
After an unexpected twist, she's forced into close quarters with hot-and-rude Asher Lowe.
She's in town to focus on her witchy powers. She can't let herself get involved.
Even if his sharp tongue and icy stares melt her in place.

Asher spends all his time working on his business. The bakery is all his parents left him.
He has no patience for hunts and fun. He surely hasn't got the time for a mate.
Whatever his bear tells him, he's not surrendering. It doesn't matter how many times he has to push her off.
And one final incident is all he needs to prove himself right.

Midlife Shifters of Shadow Falls is a steamy paranormal series. Each book can be read individually. HEA guaranteed, no cliffhangers. This one is all about grumpy bosses and enemies-to-lovers. Adults only.

This is a cute, quickish Shifter romance (a witch and a bear). I haven’t read many shifter/paranormal romances involving witches so this was a fun difference than animal-only shifter stories.

It is an office romance and also a enemies to lovers.

There’s a little drama, Asher’s drive to do what he thinks is right hurts his fated mate. Ends in a HEA with two epilogues

Erin Havoc has written a 5-star book. This is the story of Kayla and Asher. Asher has just lost another Executive assistant. He has Michaella put another ad out for one. He put one in the window of the bakery. Kayla has just moved from Seattle to Shadow Falls and has stopped at the bakery for a cup of coffee when she walks into the bakery, there is a man there and he asks "Who are you?" She thinks he is a jerk and very rude. Even with him being rude, she feels an attraction to him. Asher is a bear shifter and his bear thinks that the woman they just saw is his mate. Asher doesn't have time or wants a mate. He is too busy getting ready to open another bakery up in Boston. Kayla leaves the bakery and goes to her friend Sabrina's house. Kayla tells her about the rude man and is told that it is Asher and he is always like that. The next day, Kayla goes back to the bakery and before she goes in, she sees the help wanted ad for the executive assistant. Asher is the only one working the counter and she asks him about the job. He tells her what is involved and tells her to be there the next morning at seven. Asher calls himself all kinds of a fool for hiring Kayla since his bear wants her as their mate. Asher knows that he can't have Kayla since she is human. Humans and bears don't mate with each other. Kayla is not just a human, she is a Nature witch. Kayla shows up at the office and at first, things don't go so well. Asher doesn't explain things too well. After she gets how things are done, she settles in and Asher can't complain about her work. even if he tries to. Asher finally gives in about his bear wanting to be with Kayla. They sleep together but then Asher gets a phone call saying that the bakery in Boston just burnt down. Asher thinks that if he had not been with Kayla, the bakery wouldn't have burnt down. He pushes her away. Kayla thinks that they had something good and now her heart is broken. Asher has been gone for a week and he has thought about Kayla the whole time. When Asher gets back home, he goes to the office in his home. Nick, his friend comes and tells him they are going out to the bar. At the bar, Nick tells him that he is a fool for rejecting Kayla. Asher tells him that he has no time for a mate. He needs to work on building up the bakery that his parents started. Nick tells him that his father built the bakery so that he could see Asher's mom smile more and so that the town could see how amazing she was. Asher remembers how his day used to look at his mom and how happy they were together. Nick tells him that a mate is the most important thing to a shifter. It finally sinks in for Asher. He needs to find Kayla and apologize to her for the way he treated her. She may not give him a chance. After leaving the bar, Asher needs to let his bear out and run. He is in the forest when a deer comes up to him and doesn't run away. It looks at him like it wants him to follow him. Asher thinks this is not normal so he follows the deer. The deer keeps looking back to see if Asher is still behind him. The deer stops and walks around something and Asher barely stops at the edge of the hole. He looks into the hole and he sees Kayla hanging onto a root. He asks "Are you alright?" Kayla looks up and can't believe it's Asher. "Asher, is it really you?" Asher jumps into the hole to be with Kayla. She tells him that they are both stuck in the hole. Asher tells her that he will climb out with her. She will just have to hold on tight. "So, all I have to do is trust you. Again?" "You threw me away like garbage." Asher tells her that he is sorry and that he will do anything from that day on to earn her trust again. Asher shifts back into his bear and as soon as Kayla is on his back, he starts to climb. Once they are solid ground, he tells her that he was a fool for letting her go. She was the best thing that happened to him in a long time, and she made him want to be a better man. He tells her that he needs her.
After the way that Asher treated Kayla, will she give him another chance?
This was a wonderful book and I would recommend it to anyone.

Career Success or Accepting His Mate ? . . .

Kayla Medina's mother has just passed away so she moves into Shadow Falls where she won’t have to hide her Nature Witch abilities, although living in the suburbs, she had little use for those abilities anyway. She can’t wait to join a coven, something her mom never wanted. She finally gets to town and heads to the bakery for coffee. The smiling, friendly girl behind the counter suddenly goes full professional and stiff. Kayla turns around to see why and a gorgeous man is standing there. He’s handsome, tall, well-built, and amazing. At least until he snarls at her and demands rudely who she is. He also leans in close and takes a loud, deep sniff of her! She raced past him to her car. What a rude man!

While she and Sabrina are in the backyard, she gets email from her boss who is allowing her to work remotely, which makes it possible for her to move here as she did. The email is saying they changed their minds about remote workers and she is fired! She needs a job right away. She goes to the bakery to get coffee and muffins and sees a Hiring sign. Asher is working the counter and glares at her. What is his problem? Yet he hires her and even offers to hike to the Falls with her so she won’t get lost… again. They start to banter back and forth and she sticks her tongue out at him without thinking. His deep laughter amazes her. They swim in the water and she asks why he is looking at her. She doesn’t believe when he says she is gorgeous. So he kisses her until she gives in and puts her arms around him. He stays in control and doesn’t take things further as they walk back hand in hand. Have things changed? When he takes her to his home to meet his family and she gives up her innocence to him, they think of a future together. Until an early morning phone call tears their world apart. This is why employers don’t mix with employees. He got distracted and now he will pay the price.

This is an amazing story line, slowly building, slowly changing the grouchy bear, until disaster blows up his world. Grab your copy and see if his relationship is also ruined and if he can get his life back together again.

I really enjoyed this second book, I also loved book one too but you don't have to have read book one to enjoy this book.

In this book Kayla is a witch who doesn't know how to control her magic as her mother kept her away from other Supernaturals. Kayla has had to tightly control her magic her who life, to the point of no laughing, not loss of any control. Since her mum has died she has decided to move to a Supernatural only town, where witches, shifters and other Supernaturals can be themselves, finally Kayla will be able to be herself, laugh and maybe able to have sex finally.

Her mums old friend has offered to help her get a place and has gotten her a spot in the local covern. So she heads off on the long drive to shadow falls.

When she arrives at shadow falls she pops into a bakery and meets Asher and he is a total jerk to her. She later finds out he's a jerk to everyone. He is so focused on trying to set up other bakery's outside the town like he feels his parents wanted, that he loses track of what's really important and he's rude to everyone.

He feels drawn to Kayla straight away, instantly knowing she's his mate. He thinks it's bad timing, he doesn't want to get caught up in the mating at this time, he needs to concentrate on work. His bear feels differently and is not shy in telling him so.

Kayla feels the attraction but doesn't know she's his mate. They go through some major ups and downs and i liked watching the relationship grow.

I hope there will be further books in this series, I'd like to see the alpha of the bear pack find love too. Will definitely be keeping my eyes open for future books.

The addition starts with the book cover….yeah…yeah…yeah don’t judge a book by its cover they say ….well we all do it and this one here it is the scratch to your itch or better yet the filling to your oreos! Speaking of filling…..wait, that’s for later. Within the first chapters you get the panoramic view of whom you’re dealing with! This is book is part of the Midlife Shifters of Shadow Falls series why just read one when you can start at the beginning and keep reading through the series it won’t be a waste of time. Asher is a sexy as all get out bear shifter, a bakery owner, rude to almost everyone, a jerk for the most part and looking for help for the position of Executive Assistant. Kayla is a widow in mourning, but instead of sitting around feeling sorry she moves to a new town Shadow Falls, she is a nature witch and runs into Asher while at his bakery. Asher’s bear knows Kayla is their mate, but he doesn’t need nor want a mate when Kayla arrives to inquire about the position, he explains what it entails and to be there bright and early. She starts to work there and they get to know each other and get together but the night they are together one of his bakery burns down and he blames Kayla thus breaking her heart in walking way but his bear isn’t going to allow him to walk away so will she give him another chance, will she ever trust him again, and can they find happiness?

Kayla is a nature witch, but as her mother mostly tried to ignore her own witchcraft except for making potions she did not teach her daughter much of it. Plus, she never was part of a coven. So after her mother died, she decided to contact one of her mother's few friends, who is part of a coven and lives in Shadow Falls, a town consisting mostly of paranormals. When she is invited to come and learn under said friend, she packs up and moves to Shadow Falls.
As she still needs to earn some money to live she takes the job to become assistant to the local bakery's owner, who seems to not like anyone.
Asher, the owner of the bakery, is obsessed with the success of the bakery to prove to his already passed parents, that he is honoring them even in death. When he realizes that Kayla is his mate, he tries everything possible to ignore that feeling and his bear.
The story is not just a romance, but about obsession and prioritising the wrong things in life and almost losing what is most precious.
A nice story, well-written and entertaining.

3.5 stars. Asher, the male lead, is a jerk. There’s no other way to put it. And I didn’t like him, not even by the end - at the end, I merely didn’t dislike him. I therefore couldn’t give this story an extremely high rating.

Kayla, the female lead, has been following her instincts and trying to learn who she is and what she’s supposed to do, moving to a new town to acquire a mentor in witchcraft, now that her witch mother who seems to have been uncomfortable with her own witchcraft has died. Kayla ends up taking a job with Asher, when her previously arranged job falls through.

Asher has known from the moment he met her that she’s his mate and he’s still a jerk to her and continues to be. By the end of the story, with the input of other characters, he apologises and appears to be remorseful but, it feels to me, like he hasn’t developed much as a person.

The story is dual POV, well written, and I enjoyed Kayla and her journey to self- acceptance and development.

Asher is singularly focused on expanding his parents' bakery line and does not want any distractions, especially in the form of a mate. Kayla is a nature witch who hasn't learned to control her powers. She comes to town to be with her mom's friend and join her coven. Asher is a total jerk towards her yet she can't keep from being attracted to him. Sometimes a man should listen to his bear because the bear was the wise one in this relationship. I enjoyed the way his bear kept pushing for what he wanted and was upset when the human form kept screwing up. The greatest battle in the book was within Asher and his perception he couldn't expand the business and have his mate. He put poor Kayla through a lot. The epilogue was priceless and full of joy. It made up for soe of the heartbreak earlier in the story.

I did not realize this was part of a series when I started to read the story. You can read it as a stand alone BUT it felt like I was missing information that would have helped me understand the scenario/world that they lived in. The concept of the story was good but I felt like it skipped over the building of the relationship between the two main characters - I would have liked more focus on their interaction. It seemed like half the book dealt with the fragmented back story and how the main characters came to meet, then the next chapter they were together and then the next they were apart, and then all issues were resolved and we had a HEA. Additionally there were grammatical errors that slightly detracted from the story.

MS Havoc brings us to book two in Midlife Shifters of Shadow Falls series. She is a witch that didn't get to use her powers until after her mother passed away and she left and moved to another paranormal city. He is a bear shifter that is a baker. He is trying to open numerous other bakeries outside their town and has no time for anything other than that. These two meet and he is a total idiot to her and everyone else. He has lost sight of the big picture here. Since these two are working in close quarters his bear is pressuring him to mate with her. They both feel the attraction but neither wants the other. Something happens to her, and she needs him. Does he go to her? What will these two ever do to be together, or do they just keep it at bay?

Kayla's a new in town witch hoping to improve her magic skills with the help of her mom's friend Sabrina (you meet her in the previous book). She's been in town less than an hour when she meets to extremely rude Asher. She's instantly attractive to him, but doesn't let that stop her from putting him in his place. Unexpectantly, she loses her job with the move and applies to be his assistant. It's here that the chemistry really begins to take off.

I loved Kayla and Asher's story. There were parts where I wanted to gut punch Asher, but it's not enough to make me not like him. Both Kayla and Asher are strong willed and their personalities work well together. The plot was easy and flowed well. Great quick read!

After her mother dies Kayla moves to Shadows Falls to be closer to people like her. She's excited about meeting new people and the possibility of being in a coven. However when she goes to a local bakery a sexy stranger sniffs her and sends her running. When she learns her job falls through she returns to the bakery and runs into the sexy stranger again. Asher is stunned by the woman and what she means to him. However when she comes back later looking for a job he gives her one. Its not long before sparks are flying between them. Will Asher claim her as his own? Will something else cause problems and split them up?

This is a great story that once I started it I couldn't put it down. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

Follow the Deer.
Amazing story. Asher owes the bakery that was passed down to him from his parents and is very serious about making it the best it can be. He’s also a grumpy jerk to everyone including his mate, Kayla. When she starts working for Asher he goes crazy with her being so close to him. When a business emergency happens he breaks up with her. Asher thinks that if he had been taking care of his company instead of being with Kayla nothing would have gone wrong. When he tries to reach out to her she ignores him. Asher has to find Kayla and apologize. But, will he get to her in time to save her? Stop by the bakery for a treat.

Kayla is grieving her mother's death. She needs to start new somewhere and that somewhere is Shadow Falls. Shadow Falls is a place where the supernatural/paranormal can be themselves. After arriving Kayla heads into a bakery to get a coffee. She notices the nice, smiley girl behind the counter suddenly looks uncomfortable. Turning around she notices an extremely handsome man (Asher) is behind her. He says some rude, ugly things to Kayla and she leaves the bakery. What is Asher's deal? Is being a jackass in his DNA or does he choose specific people to unload on? Whatever his problem, Kayla will simply not let him deter her plans. But, can she really stop what is going to happen?
An excellent book I recommend.

BUSINESS OR HIS MATE?
There is a lot of tension, chemistry and drama in this story. I enjoyed it even though Asher was incredibly unlikable at times. Worth putting on your TBR.
Kayla is a witch who doesn't know how to use her magic. She moves to Shadow Falls to have a coven that can teach her. Asher is committed to building up and expanding the bakery his parents left him. When she gets a job as his personal assistant she learns he is grumpy, demanding and temperamental. He knows she is his mate but wants to focus on the business. When he pushes (more like throws) her away, has he lost his only chance with his one, his only, mate?

Kayla comes to Shadow Falls to start over and concentrate on her magic and powers, where her mother had once lived before she was born. Asher is a bear shifter who runs the bakery that his parents had started. Looking for a job, she applies for the executive assistant position with Asher, who hires her and realizes she is his mate.
The characters are terrific, with great backstories and intense feelings. The storyline has plenty of surprises and twists, nature magic, romance, danger, rescue and more. The romance hits the skids when one situation forces him to figure out priorities. Loved the deer who helped and the way her magic affected the surrounding nature. Well done.

It is NOT fun to fall in love with a total jerk and 36-year-old Kayla finds out the hard way when she moves from Seattle to Shadow Falls, Montana, so she can train to be a proper witch with Sabrina, a concoction witch who knew her mother. Kayla is a nature witch who has no control over her magic having lived her entire life in the city. When Kayla arrives in Shadow Falls, she heads straight to the bakery for a cup of coffee and it is there that she meets Asher. This story is fun to read, has laughable moments, heartache, steam, plus will bring lots of tears so get out the tissues, and ends in a HEA. Highly recommended.

This book is incredible and will keep you enthralled until the very end. Kayla picks up her whole life to move to Shadow Falls after her mother passes away. When she arrives she is met by this jerk. Who later becomes her boss. Asher has focused all of his time on his bakery he has not had time to date. Opening a new bakery is important to him to carry on his parents legacy. Kayla is Asher's mate and he had not told her. I recommend reading this book to see how their story blooms. They both face struggles, will they be able to overcome them together or by themselves?

Asher is older and sexy but is not looking for love. One day Kayla walks into his bakery and he is taken by surprise. Kayla is a young, sweet and curvy witch looking for a new start. An intense mutual attraction is there but both are trying to fight it. I love the setting of the story in a small town that is a haven for the supernatural. Great main characters and supporting characters as well. A totally worth while romance that will keep you reading. Now the only question is what will Asher and Kayla do about their chemistry?

This is a NON-SPOILER REVIEW of Erin Havoc's second book in the Midlife Shifters of Shadow Falls, The Bear's Assistant. This is a fast paced read that is an entertaining combination of humor, snark and steamy heat when grumpy bear meets a nature witch. Asher and Kayla are fated mates, but the course of true love never does run smoothly. This series read has just enough back story to make it feel like it could be a stand alone read. A fun anytime read that will have you laughing one moment and tearing up the next. But no worries, you'll be smiling long after the final page!

Love Bear Shifter stories! This is about Kayla and Asher. Of course here you have a witch and a bear shifter. Kayla is moving to Shadow Falls to learn about her powers, but on her first date there, the rude but good looking leaves her an unwelcoming feeling. Asher has been focusing on expanding his family’s bakery and the only way to do this is by focusing on it alone - nothing else.

Unfortunately for Asher, his bear recognizes his mate which he refuses to accept at first. The story gets good as there are a lot hoping to see Asher happy.

Kayla is moving to Shadow Falls after her mom died. She is a nature witch and needs help with her powers. Asher is a grumpy, grouchy bear shifter and boss. He needs a new assistant and Kayla needs a new job after hers fires her. Asher has a problem with Kayla because she is his mate. Asher believes that his parents wanted him to expand their bakery but he forgot what his dad always told him about mates. By the time that Asher realizes that he is wrong about not giving Kayla a chance, he may just lose her unless someone saves her.

A little witch is all it takes to tame the grumpy bear

THE BEAR'S ASSISTANT is the second book in the Midlife Shifters of Shadow Falls series and is the story of Asher and Kayla. These two make for a great read that made me laugh, was entertaining and has some smokin' hot chemistry. He is a very grumpy and demanding boss who goes through assistants like a duck goes through water. She is new in town and is looking for a job. He is a bear shifter and she is a witch. So they make for a very interesting couple.

Kayla is a witch she’s never been part of a coven so she’s moving to Shadow Falls where she won’t have to hide who she is and be part of a coven and because she’s a nature witch she needs help with her powers. Asher is a bear shifter he’s grumpy and has anger issues especially when he can’t find a decent assistant his bear believes that when they find their mate things will get better but Asher just rolls his eyes, when Asher walks outside a smell hits him his bear is growling and Asher’s body responds to the smell he looks and there’s a black haired beauty standing there. There is so much more going on in this fantastic story I loved it and I highly recommend this book.

Kayla has just moved to town when her job fell through. Asher runs the local bakery that his parents first started. To those in town Asher is a hard bear to work for. Kayla needing a job is willing to take the job as his EA. What she does not know, and to Asher's dismay, Kayla is Asher's mate.

The Bear's Assistant is a fun fast read with passion, tension, banter, and the push/pull of regret. Asher wants Kayla, but honoring his parents is important also. Grab this quick and enjoy their journey of ups and downs.

Kayla ends up moving to Shadow Falls to learn more about being a natural witch. She moves in with Sabrina who will help her develop her potential. Kayla meets Asher the first day in town and he is a complete jerk. Kayla and Asher kept dancing around each other until Asher's bear couldn't stand not having his mate. But Asher has to learn a lesson after treating Kayla as badly as he did before he went to Boston. This book has a slow build between Asher and Kayla but there is plenty of family, loyalty and love. I didn't notice any glaring editing errors in this one. Nothing that jumped out at me. I liked the story. My only complaint is that I think Kayla forgave Asher too quickly and too easily. As I get older, I find myself more annoyed with female characters who give in too quickly for the sake of the romance story. I feel like it makes the women look a little weak. I also find myself getting a little more blood thirsty and really want the villains in story's to get what they deserve and get annoyed if the wronged party forgives them too much or just lets things go. Still, I really liked the over all story.

This was quite a different read with our H, Asher, being quite the grumpy bear to just about everyone - including his fated mate, witch Kayla. I loved her flavour of magic! So unique, and while a bit tricky to control, it was fun. Asher's intense drive to expand his family's business put the blinders on for what was truly important - and was his bear getting very frustrated at being ignored ;) Well, after much tension and drama, Asher has his epiphany and starts about making amends. Thank goodness because their chemistry was smoking hot and they really did deserve love.
