This book is a hard one to rate...I did enjoy it and find it a page turner but there was lots of things within it that I struggled with.
Firstly there should definitely be a trigger warning for cancer. Although always good to be educated...this is a type of cancer I have never even heard of and have certainly thought about since. For people that know too much about this rare cancer...it may be a bit too much for them.
Secondly Bec was such a difficult character. Absolutely hated her...and everything she stood for. The fact that she got her head turned so quickly by attractive but dull as dishwater Ryan was so frustrating and I felt really sorry for her husband and young children.
Thirdly...I don't think Kate would have to date 14 men to find someone who wanted to properly date her. She was a supermodel. With one issue....I knew there was something that the men were apparently not sure about...and it took far far too long for the full story to come out (I found this very frustrating) but once it did...I very much doubt those men would even remotely care about that. It was so much more minor than I was expecting (though of course not for Kate). .I really don't think anyone would be slightly bothered about the issues Kate was presenting. Can see how it ended her career and affected her confidence...could not see how it affected her dating life in the slightest....
As I have mentioned...it took much too long to find the information out about what happened to Kate. This needed to be at the beginning of the book. Some teases fair enough but it was far too drawn out. We needed that information whilst she was dating, right at the beginning to form an opinon and understand what was happening. Without it...all we had was a ridiculously beautiful woman struggling to date for 'reason' which didn't mean anything and as such meant those chapters didn't have any impact.
Adam was portrayed as this amazing man because he overlooked the one 'reason' where others wouldn't. I don't think that was that honourable as who would actually have any issue with it but overall liked Adams character.
The mystery was quite interesting but think we needed a more drip of clues. We kind of got nothing at all for chapters and chapters then a huge information dump.
It was an interesting read but could have been so much tighter and if it had wanted to be a social commentary needed more focus on the issues rather than just the dating issue which seems quite minor in comparison.
Thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
disappointing and took way too long to read on the account that i had zero interest in the characters. advertised as a suburban thriller a la liane moriarty, but was instead dull and messy with a thrill tacked on in the last 50 pages. im angry i wasted my time
Hard slog to get through. It dragged through the whole story until the end where it briefly improved. So much of it was just filler - banal and boring.
I very nearly didn’t finish this book! Found it quite boring, the characters were very irritating and self absorbed, the story lines were dull. It did pick up a little towards the end though hence the 3 star
Not my usual genre and found it difficult to get into at the start, but I did get curious and intrigued as the pages turned. Glad I held out until the end.
