Promised in Blood #2

Second Comes War

Rate this book
First I bled. Then I fought. Now, it’s war.

Fate turned on me, chewed me up and spat me out. I’ve been dragged down into the depths of hell until my lungs are burning and the light of day has turned blood red.

But I’m still breathing.

Fate turned on them, as well. The devil princes who rule this city, and who dare try and rule me. I might not have their muscle or brutality, but I possess the ultimate power.

Their hearts.

Why settle for pieces of shattered souls when I can have everything? I’m the Princess of Coldlake, and when war is declared and the battle lines are drawn, this city is going to burn.

This city will be ours.

Author’s note: Second Comes War is the second book in the Promised in Blood series and ends on a cliffhanger. These books contain dark themes, violence, and a Why Choose romance with ruthlessly possessive men. The story is dark, dirty, and delicious, so please read at your discretion.

Without interruption in the timeline, Chiara Romano finds herself as a captive to the most powerful men in Coldlake. Adjusting to their demands and contrasting personalities, Chiara learns how to survive in the most gratifying ways. However, the danger that lurks continues to escalate and protecting Chiara is priority one.

“We’re going to push you hard. We’re going to fuck you, one after the next, in front of each other, and you won’t feel ashamed. You’ll crave it.”

Narrated in multiple POV, the story digs deeper into the past showing how these men united as friends and support their current combined actions to safeguard Chiara. Each of their different personalities also began to shine even more, making a Chiara a lucky girl. Of course, I remain Team Lorenzo, as he continues to reveal more of his propensities. With the overarching plot of a killer at large, and as more characters enter the story, the tension builds.

Second Comes War is a reverse harem romance in a mafia setting. This book would appeal to those seeking to be sandwiched between four hot men.

Note: The bonus chapter is incredibly hot and sated me for a little while, at least. 😉

I am ashamed to say that I actually enjoyed this series so far.

Do not go into this expecting anything to make sense, because you will be highly disappointed.

The only reason I enjoyed this series was because it paired well with insomnia, loneliness and depression.

It made me forget, and honestly, it delivered.

Genre: Dark Romance
Type: Book 2 of 3 from Promised in Blood trilogy
POV: First Person - Multiple
Rating:

As Chiara Romano accepted that her life would never be the same again, she learned to toughen up to survive the sexy but dangerous men of Coldlake Syndicate. But things became deadlier when old enemies came back for more.

If the last book was an engine warm-up, this one left the start line in a cloud of smokes. I’m glad to learn about the men’s background and the history of their association. And with my baby Lorenzo front and center in the story, it’s hard not to love him even more especially with how I can absolutely relate to his personality and view in life.

I reach out and grasp his hand. I want him, too. I need all of them. My body needs them. My heart needs them.

My need for filth is also thoroughly sated in this one. More fluids were being exchanged, and Chiara was understandably hornier than ever. I also liked the addition of the new characters in the storyline.

Second Comes War is an exciting addition to the series, and I’m looking forward to what I hope to be an explosive ending - fire or fluid, I’m not choosy.

Note:
The bonus chapter. The pièce de résistance. I’m ruined. Now I’m thinking of ways Lorenzo can “punish” certain someone lol!

I feel like Miss Author has been lacing these books with some kinda crack because no matter how shitty I think this book is, I keep wanting to finish this series lol. Chiara pissed me the fuck off with her whining and the rest of the guys weren't much better. This book was def not well thought through and could have been written/plotted better. The only saving grace was that it was marginally better than the first book lmao💀 On we go to the third and final book hehe🤪✌🏻

I swear on all the is holy, if book 3 does not come ASAP I won’t survive. I’ll perish right here in the spot. I need answers. I need to resolution. I need…I can’t finish this because of spoilers but I NEED.

Ok, the dramatics are over, but I’m still not okay.

Lilith Vincent came for it in this one. I already loved Vinicius, Lorenzo, Cassius, and Salvatore (yes, even him), but this book just cracked my heart open even wider. I love them as individuals, as a group, as a unit who loves Chiara. I’m just obsessed with all them, though, to be honest, Lorenzo is the front runner as my fave. Why do I always love the crazy ones?

Chiara has grown so much already. She stands up for herself more, pushes for her needs and wants, begins to own her desires and has no shame about it. I’m beginning to love her character.

This plot. This MF PLOT. I’m freaking obsessed and I don’t want to give one bit of it away, but it has mystery and suspense and I’m here for it. The ending. That cliffhanger. Mind blown.

I’ll be counting down the days until book 3, but I might not survive until then. My mind is reeling already. I need answers. I need more steamy goodness with my four men (and I guess Chiara). I’m enamored with it all.

The ONLY good thing about this book is there's a bonus chapter where Vinicius and Lorenzo have sex.

Worst thing about this book is that it exists. This little trilogy just isn't good. The writing doesn't work. The characters don't work. Trying to convince me that Chiara is this strong, kickass woman will never happen. I'd sooner believe sex with a Kraken is possible than believe this girl is a strong heroine. For one... you showed me a powerful as fuck FMC in The Pageant series. Chiara is NOTHING like that. Ugh let me just recap real quick.

We left off in the last book with Chiara (18, not a virgin, brat) showing up to kill daddy dearest, which we all knew she would never follow through with because she's a weak little girl. So instead of shooting daddy, she gets shot by her fiancé, Salvatore (baby bastard). The three other guys, Vinicius (kitten bastard), Lorenzo (princess bastard), and Cassius (bambina bastard) whisk in to rescue their little princess. Gag.

YOU MIGHT CONSIDER THIS A SPOILER

Now all of the sudden, instead of all the guys being mean and horrible, they're really just sweet and protective. The entire first book was supposed to be them convincing her they were bad so that it'd make it more believable to her daddy. Or some other bullshit like that. In the first book, the author didn't give these men even one redeemable quality. I know a lot of people DNFd because of that reason alone. How do you think people are going to get to the next book if you don't give us at least one thing to like about them!!

The guys are all really still friends and all of the "we're not friends and we hate each other" in the last book was faked. They now cherish Chiara and whisper sweet words to her all the time. They jut want to pamper her and protect her. Chiara is now this strong and commanding 18-yo and she's such a powerful "woman" who takes charge and has no fear. WHAT THE F*CK EVER. All of the guys are so amazed by how powerful she is now. Again.... gag.

Oh.... so all of the guys had a sister that was kidnapped and tortured by the Black Orchid Killer. Now that person wants Chiara. There's a scuffle and then we end on a cliffy....

It's just stupid. There is no purpose in the book. I can't stand Chiara. I do like the guys, but I'm a whore (for book guys).

It's only getting 2 stars because of the Lorenzo and Vinicius.

If you want a good book, then this is not the book for you.

We are in book 2 and I am like reading these babies like they are fruit snacks!!! And omggg I'm so glad I waited because my butt would be so hyped waiting months to read book 2.

This leaves off at the cliffhanger in book 1. And I was shocked at what Sal did.. I was like let me punch him in the balls!! My poor Chiara that girl has been though some mind games and Shot!! Now she's back with her boys and confused why they are hugging and being friendly with Sal.. they explain more of their plan to her and she's shocked angry at being lied and played.. I do wish she was angrier with them with all these secerts.. poor girl.  Now shes "dead" for now to the world and spending time with her guys.. trying to figure out what happened with their sisters even if its a touchy subject that has the guys on edge.. I love we got more Vin and Lorenzo with Chiara to see there relationship grow (we also see that bonus chapter with that MMF scene!!!) More secerts are coming out and the guys are trying to get their revenge and keep their girl safe... but we hit another cliffhanger and a betrayal!!! The boys shall not be happy about this.

Low angst, no ow/om drama, no cheating, drama, sexy times, no virgins

Fuuuck.
This series has me so fucking hooked. It’s almost 8 in the morning, I just finished the second book immediately after finishing the first, and I really don’t think I’m gonna be able to fucking sleep until I know what happens next. So. Looks like I’m not getting any sleep today.
I literally tell myself to stop at the next chapter and then suddenly it’s been an hour and I’m wondering how many chapters I’ve sped past because I don’t even see the damn numbers as my eyes stay locked on the words.
It’s for sure not healthy.
But Im loving everything about this series so far.

There’s danger, there’s fantastic sex, there’s growth, there’s deep connections forming in all the relationships, there’s a crime to solve.
I’ve had theories going back and forth in my head and I can’t quite figure it the fuck out yet. I’m not sure if maybe one of my theories was right and that cliffhanger we just ended on was sort of a decoy, or if we just got answers, but either way I’m gonna fucking find out. Right now.

I need an iced coffee and I need some cancer clogging up my lungs, this is not a drill.

"You're his present, kitten. You're all our presents."

Bloody hell, I don't think you understand how much I am in love with this book, series, characters and everything.
It's all I want in a dark mafia romance. Bonus, we get a reverse harem with all our sweet cruel evil badass boyfriends. YAAAS.

I enjoyed that the second book focused more on the development of our male characters.
We see more of their POV, their feelings, their past, their emotions and coming into terms who Chiara wants them to be truthful to in terms of who they are, their personalities, the way they show love and of course for them to trust Chiara in return.

From the beginning, I think I blink and the story was over.
It was so fast; I was excited and sad at the same time knowing we were near the end of the story!
I love each of them so much I can't describe and don't even make me choose!
Lorenzo though, he is winning my heart all the time.
He is seriously my previous cinnamon ball.
Don't get me started on Vinicius, he is the baby for sure.
Cassius is the mom in the group but with a little naughty side, you know.
Salvatore, without a doubt the Daddy!

That cliffhanger at the end is getting me nervous, now I can't wait to dive into the next one!

lilith vincent has once again vowed me, not only with her writing but her amazing ability to tell a story.

i won't lie, some monologue scenes by chiara really make me want to fling my phone across the room—not because there was anything wrong about it, but because of the length of it.

she's really grown a backbone since first comes blood. the character growth, rather than development, is clear to see. she went a scared little girl with questionable decisions, to a strong young woman. she's mature for her age, and yet scenes with her friends showed how truly young she is, but also how sophisticated she is at the same time—i hope you understand me, haha.

salvatore, i can't really say i was surprised by his actions at the start. i always predicted it, and i told lilith herself that i could never believe he'd so willingly betray his friends. you'd think old man cass or psycho lorenzo would be the grumpiest one in the harem, but it's actually mr. fiore. i love him, but he honestly needs to get over his old-fashioned ways and stop treating chiara like she's just some play-thing for him.

vincius, oh boy. this one, he's dangerous. with his blinding smiles, slicked back hair and sharp suits, he's a recipe for heartbreak. as compared to FCB, we definitely saw less of his sly, cunning side and more of his soft side and i definitely need more of that. he's broken just like the rest of these men, but even more so on the inside.

cassius, ooh the big bad daddy of the harem. i love everything about this man. i love how protective and insanely possessive of chiara he is and how he towers over her more than the other guys. this one, he loves hard and deep and i love that about him. just like the rest of the men, he throws himself fully into her and completely immerses himself in chiara.

lorenzo, oh lorenzo. this one, i loved him the most in FCB and nothing has changed since then. he's the most mentally broken and emotionally distant out of all of them—even more distant that salvatore and vincius and that's saying A LOT. his backstory had my heart cracking and splintering into tiny pieces. he's gone through so much, done so much. i was so not ready to have that one chapter in his POV. he's always been a pyscho, lmfao, but there's a reason behind his evil smirks and dead eyes and that's what hurt the most. my favourite things about would be one, how modern he is and how he has such high hopes for chiara (career-wise) two, how soft he can be and three, when he blushed and got flustered.

i stayed up until three a.m. reading this and i don't regret it. i loved seeing the dynamic between these five. they baby chiara waaay too much and make her seem too fragile, but she swung back each time and that's the growth i was talking about. she could've chosen to do what she did in book one and surrendered to them, but she fought until she won in the end. though, at what cost? :/ i've got some words for ms. vincent after that damned cliffy.

and let me just say, i need a WHOLE LOT MORE of lorenzovincius content because that bonus scene...i honestly don't mind relationships within a harem, and to see lorenzo and vincius get involved on a romantic level—just take all of my money.

one thing i've already said to lil when i bombarded her comments is one, lorenzo should be a comedian and two, this book was more comedy than anything. okay, some smut too. but honestly, it isn't as dark as you'd think and it's a lot of sarcastic/witty remarks that had me clucthing my stomach and crying with laughter.

i'd also like to point out, if you do choose to read this one, it isn't a lovey-dovey mushy love story. these men are stubborn harda*ses who not only expect, but demand submission. time and time again, i found myself wanting to pummel their face in. it's not just one of them, it's all. they're a united front in everyway. thank hell for chiara not be submissive. it's honestly a good portion of enemies-to-lovers, where she's enemies with all of them and then lovers. they push, but she pushes harder.

overall, a solid read. good character growth, swoon-worthy men when they finally pull their heads out of their a*ses and a sexy story.

Goodness! I just complete the book, and i am in shock, horney and anticipation...
This book leaves me speechless man! What the f*ck! I can't believe what just happened here!?😳

Second Comes war is the squeal of First Comes blood, leaves in a cliffhanger like the first book. But this Cliff hanger through-its damn shocking! I will not give any spoliers here, but it's just got me good. I never thought that the Black orchid killer would be him!? Or there is another plot twist waiting here-Lilith Vincent is good at plot twist. After the first book and then this book, i can clearly see it! The things which left in dark in first books somewhat reveals here in 2nd book, and there is many things yet to reveals.

Let's talk about Character development! I always Love character developments and there evolution thoughtout the book..and damm our MCs evolve soo good in this book! Both Chiara and her man...they all comes a long way. This book is all about, there past and what scar it's left behind for them and why they're like this, the way they're now. Chiara makes them confess everything to her, our girl embrace them with it wholeheartedly. Gosh the way Chiara evolve in this book-i can't seem to compare the girl which we meet in the first book to the girl who she is now in this book! She becomes more stronger and ready to fight anyone who will cause any harm to her man.
We all love a firece Heroine don't we? Any Chiara's Character is getting better with each book❤️.

Talk about Smut? Holy Jesus! I am about to drop my pantie here! The Group smut through 🥵😩🔥. It killed me! Lilith Vincent write smut like it's no one business..i freaking fall in love with Her writing! And the special bonus chapter in the end of Epilogue which i just complete-holy motherf*cking god! It left me all horney and bothered here!! The FMM smut through here- Lorenzo, Chiara and Vinicius killed it! 🖐️😩

About Lorenzo...man i never thought that i will end up-litreally end up falling for him after the first book, but here I did! Yes i'm in freaking love with Lorenzo Scava here!! The man literally stole the show here and my heart too...the things he went through its..my heart reach out to him, and i got his character better then the last book. Now i Love him more then Daddy Cassius ( sorry Daddy 🙈). But Lorenzo just 🔥 it.
Salvatore, Vinicius, Cassius and Lorenzo all got more softie and opening up to our girl.

This book is evolving! The thriller, the plot twist, the suspense and the War elements is at point.🙌

Now i have to quickly read the third Comes Vegenance. I am literally shaking up in excitement and anticipation! All the questions and mysterious which are yet to get solved, we will get it in the final installment of the series!

Absolutely bloody incredible!! I didn’t want to put it down. I’m in love with Lorenzo, his dirty talk and the smutty scenes 😮‍💨🥵 i love all the men but Lo is SOMETHING ELSE.
CHIARA I AM SO PROUD OF. Putting all the men in their place and showing them and everyone else that she is strong! Also the 🔫 scene, fuck I’m so glad she got her revenge for that shit a year ago! Also I’m super jealous of Chiara like SHE HAS 4 SUPER HOT GROWN MEN, THE GROUP ACTIVITIES ARE RIDICULOUSLY HOT. lucky bitch.
That flipping plot twist at the end!!!! WTF!!!! Literally had goosebumps and felt like my heart stopped beating.
omg I NEEDED that bonus scene!! HOT AF 🥵🥵🥵

This book was so much better than the first
I loved every single page!

Can I just say the scene with Lorenzo and Chiara is one of the hottest smut scenes I’ve ever read about 🥵 I was literally flustered and panting the whole fucking time🔥
Don’t even get me started on all the boys together with her 🥲

I’ve never wanted to try blood play so bad before 😩

I love all the boys, I literally cannot pick a favourite. Normally I do have one in rh books but I love them equally.
Hearing their stories made me tear up a bit like I never normally cry but I was so emotional. These poor men going through something so absolutely traumatising, my heart aches for them.

And that cliffy tho damn!!!
Can’t wait to read the next 🤩

Second Comes War by Lilith Vincent is a mafia reverse harem romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Maeve York and Walker Williams. This is the second book in the Promised in Blood series.

This is the third book of Lilith's that I have read, and it won't be my last. I was pulled in from the first chapter and couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. I loved that we got Chiara, Salvatore, Vinicius, Cassius, and Lorenzo's points of views throughout the book. It really brought the story to life.

The book ended on a great cliffhanger that left me begging for more. I can't wait to dive into the final book Third Comes Vengeance.

Walker and Maeve did an amazing job on the narration. They both really know how to bring a story to life. I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.

I would recommend this book if you like dark romances, mafia romances, reverse harem romances, or romantic suspense.

The second book in the Promised In Blood Series by Lilith.
What an action packed book. A fast-paced page turner of a book.
I loved the plot and the development of the relationships with Chiara and her men, and how each man brings a different edge to the book and Chiara.
Everyone's turning on them and enemies from all angles.
Shocking secrets come out that leave your jaw drop.
And the spice…WOWZER!!!
This is another 5-star read and this series is becoming one of my faves of the year.
I'm off to read book 3 now.
If you like Dark Mafia Romance you'll love this.

I actually liked this more than the first one. I haven’t had my suspicions refuted or confirmed, and I’m not exactly sure what to believe about the cliff hanger, but I do know I was thinking “you idiots” over the plan. This book goes into quite a bit of detail about torture, rape, and murder. It’s still a very dark book and deserves all the content warnings. And yeah, I still don’t reeeaally buy into their relationship, but I am entertained.

Second books in a series often suffer from "soggy middle" syndrome - where they lack the initial excitement of meeting the characters and watching them come together of the first book, but haven't accelerated into the conclusion of the third book. This book is NOT a "soggy middle." It is relentlessly paced and the growing relationship(s) between Chiara and her men were entrancing.
Highly recommended.

Second Comes War is the second book in the promised in blood series and is a reverse harem syndicate/mafia romance. The second installment really dug deep and answered many questions I was left with after reading the first book- what makes Chiara’s men tick and the reasons they turned into hardened syndicate leaders. I loved this book. I enjoyed the back stories of Lorenzo, Cassius, Salvatore and Vinicius. Their past traumas made me sympathize with them and want to get revenge on their behalf. This book has everything- conflict, drama, spice, some resolution from the first book. THE SPICE🔥 The men in this series are definitely antiheroes but they absolutely redeem themselves. THE CLIFFHANGER! I’m so excited for book 3!

Did I squeal and do a happy dance when this landed on my kindle (you betcha!)

Trigger Warnings: Dark themes, violence, and a Why Choose reverse harem with ruthlessly possessive men. In other words, pure perfection!

Second Comes War picks up right where we left off in book one with our female protagonist Chiara shot and feeling betrayed. I admired that the author was able to pen Chiara's vulnerability in a way that did not make her seem weak and broken but rather sentimental for wanting to see the good in her father. This was an absolute necessity in forging what I like to call Chiara 2.0

"What a brutal life this is. The one who kisses you and promises you forever one moment is the one firing bullets at you the next."

The lines between captive and lover, dominant and submissive, have gone to utter shit and, I am basking in the ambiance of complete chaos. Chiara has thrown down the gauntlet and given these four hardened men a choice: live for the past and vengeance or choose her and her love. This may seem trivial, but in a world of anarchy, where anything can be bought but peace, she is their solace, their redemption, and their greatest hope.

"The four of us with one woman at our heart. One woman who trusts us completely. Not a pawn. A Queen."

Just when I thought I could not possibly salivate over four men, the author gives me sides of these men I could not begin to fathom.

"We don't shower you with rose petals and love poems, but every one of us burns with gratitude when you walk in the room, still breathing."

Uhhhh, excuse me while I change my panties, please!

Despite the frigidity and utter insanity of everyone's favorite psycho Lorenzo, we begin to learn more about his past, his motives, and in my immortal words of Elsa, "The cold never bothered me anyway!"

It would be remiss of me to pen this review and not touch on the most important aspect which is that Second Comes War has PLUT! This is the golden combination of PLOT+ SMUT that separates this from other reverse harems for its superior plotline, the headstrong female lead, and her dominant alpha men who would move the earth to protect her.

Thank you to the author for providing me with an arc in exchange for an honest review!

“We’re not nice or gentle men, but you haven’t run screaming from us yet.”

With Second Comes War, Lilith Vincent resumes her trepidating and scorching hot trilogy. After the maddening cliffhanger at thr ending of First Comes War, I couldn’t to put my hands on the second opus of the Promised in Blood trilogy.

I had expectations, and got everything I needed and then some.

Chiara, under the tutelage of her challenging boyfriends, grows up into a startlingly brillant woman. She learns to diffuse the tension and the stress the men put on her shoulders and manages to stand up to them and cave when needed. I absolutely loved that.

"Overwhelming. Devastating. The sweetness of heaven and the burning fires of hell."

Each apect of this tale gripped me deeply. I couldn’t resist the banter between the guys, their group chat is simply priceless. But as the story unfolds and we learn more about the mystery surrounding their past, the gruesome tragedy also seized me.

Fast paced, electrical, touching, twisted, torrid, Lilith Vincent immersed me into a dangerous story and I can't wait to go back to it in December with Third Comes Vengeance.

“Welcome to the party, princess. Buckle the fuck in.”

PS: 10 stars for the jaw-dropping, panty-melting bonus scene!!! Shh!!!

DNF without prejudice @32%.

This book so far is very well-written with an engaging plot. I'm a mood reader and simply not in the mood for reverse harem mafia at this time. Where I left off in the story, around 32% a full on war has started. I think the reason I set the book down was because I knew if I was in the right mood I would be hooked, so I think this is a good spot to pause until the mood strikes me again. I'm in a historical mood currently 🤷‍♂️

Despite not currently being in the mood for reverse harem mafia, I couldn't help but download this from KU to find out what happened with Chiara and see how the author handled Lorenzo's characterization. I have to give props to the author, one of the largest criticisms I had of book 1 was the bet. She gave some insight (part of Salvatore's POV) that reader's weren't privy too in book 1 which explained the timing of when the bet started and the rules. However,

I'm liking Lorenzo so far in this book, but it blows my mind how many readers said he was their favorite from book 1.

With all that off my chest this author's writing (craft-wise) is amazing. There's such good flow, humour in the darkest of moments, the dialogue is excellent. I think Brianna Hale is one of the most underrated romance authors. For this being her first reverse harem she's executing it very well. Honestly, the writing style is so much better than the majority of reverse harems being published. Each one of the guys are memorable, they all have unique personalities, as well as their own role in the relationship. In this sense she reminds me of Kathryn Moon. Kathryn Moon writes much different kinds of reverse harems than Brianna Hale, but her writing style is A+, and she takes care to add polyamorous dynamics into the reverse harem.

Wow I really really loved this!! I loved this one so much more than the first one, the first one I was so conflicted, because I really hated all the characters but loved the story now this one I really loved the characters, to start it off the men, THE MEN ARE SO MUCH BETTER, do I dare to call them sweet?? Yes, yes I do. I mean their still blood crazed lunatics but you can finally see them actually beginning to care and open up and really grow into good an decent human beings… who sometimes go on a murdering rampage, but that neither here nor there lol

I just loved this one so much more than the first I loved seeing the character growth, I loved seeing the soft side of all these psychopaths, I loved how savagely protective they are of each other, I loved to see how much they really truly did love each other not just the heroine.
Gone are the days that the hero’s would be SO cruel to the heroine, now they are in a good place, all coming together to form one big blood crazed family of whack jobs and it warms my heart.

Just as always the spice was on point and down right filthy and the plot really had me flipping the pages faster than I could read them at 4 am.

Overall this is a much better book than the first one simply because it didn’t infuriate me like the first one. The men were sweet and attentive and so fucking savage and I loved every minute of it and now I’m desperate to know who the killer is!! Into the 3rd wish me luck!
