This is a book about falling in love with the Bible . . . that feels nothing like reading a book about the Bible. This Book Is for You will help you learn that the Bible has something life-changing to say about who you are, where you are, and the God who is in the midst of it. When you finish this book, you just might say, “I see what she did here. I didn’t realize it, but I was learning while I was laughing. She invited me into a dialogue about things I didn’t know I wanted to learn. She stirred within me a love for the Bible, but it didn’t hurt at all.”
This Book Is for You invites you into the author’s life using stories, humor, and charm, revealing how the Bible has become Tricia Lott Williford’s daily lifeline. Regardless of your notions of the Bible, Tricia will help you engage with it as a living, meets-me-where-I’m-at thing.
Tricia is not a seminarian. She is a lover of God’s Word. She is not a highbrow academician. She is educated as a grade school teacher who sometimes uses comic relief to make her point. She is not a theologian, a Bible teacher, or even a Bible scholar. Tricia is a lover of messy people; a mom of two teenage boys who are likely late for school and wearing mismatched socks. She has been known to absent-mindedly doodle in the margins of overdue library books. She has battled depression and anxiety to degrees that have nearly drowned her. She has begged the Lord for miracles that only He could provide. And somewhere in the midst of all that, she fell hopelessly in love with the Word of God as a light to her next step and the air for her next breath.
A small book that changed my life. I will keep it by my bedside table to read again. It will resonate with any reader, whether you've already read the Bible or just aren't sure about it yet. She will draw you in, engage you like you're her best friend, and make the Bible so real to you, teaching how loving God is and how you can fully realize the realness of the Bible. Highly recommend.
This is one of those rare faith-based books that feels honest, approachable, and genuinely encouraging rather than preachy 🤍✨. The writing is accessible and refreshingly vulnerable, making it easy to connect no matter where you are in your relationship with the Bible 📖.
I loved the honesty in acknowledging that Scripture can sometimes feel boring, irrelevant, or hard to connect with... and the reminder that there’s no shame in that 🙏💭. Instead of telling you what a “good Christian” should do, this book focuses on how to actually love and use the Bible in real, everyday life 💛.
Filled with practical tips and gentle encouragement, it truly meets you where you are 🌱. One of my favorite takeaways was the idea of carrying meaningful verses with you to reflect on throughout the day... simple, powerful, and doable 📝✨.
If you’ve ever felt intimidated, disconnected, or burdened by guilt when it comes to reading the Bible, this book is a comforting reminder that God’s Word, and God Himself, are for everyone 🤍🙌.
Tricia Lott Williford I am so glad I read your book. I have read the Bible a few times throughout my life but never really understood exactly what I was reading. This book helped me see that there is no shame in struggling to connect to Scripture. Tricia’s accessible writing and personal vulnerability helped me to connect with the Bible. Not your typical self help or Bible book. Full of practical tips and beautiful perspectives that meet you where you are. It taught me how to love and use the Bible in my life. Now I feel comfortable opening my Bible each day. Tricia offers practical exercises and sprinkles insights from scholars throughout the book, emphasizing how learning about God together makes the work easier and the World a better place. Thanks Tricia for opening my eyes, heart and soul.
Amazing book. Removing all guilt and opening my eyes. Tricia writes with such authenticity, and kindness….I feel like I’m sharing a cup of coffee with a friend while I read I feel like she has written this to me.
Whether you are new to faith or have been in relationship with God for years….this book is for you! Find new joy in reading the Bible and how to apply to your life when you come with fresh eyes and an open heart.
Consider this book your guide - when life is hard, when God seems distance, when the last thing you want to do is was through an ancient text. Tricia has been in the valley and shares her road map of navigating the tough seasons of life.
Sometimes life sucks away your energy, time, or attention span. I tend to fall away from my Bible reading habit when life gets tough. Guilt-free, Tricia shows you how to get back into the word and pull the strength you need to keep going.
From scripture writing to note cards, this book offers accessible tips to keep you connected to the One who gives life, to stay immersed in reminders of His grace when you need it most.
I was given an ARC of this book and Tricia has done it again.
When I first stared this book I thought it would be another book on how to read the Bible instead I found something I needed; support. I needed to be reminded not how the the Bible fits into my life but how I fit into it.
Her writing is approachable and you feel like you are having coffee with a friend.
Tricia’s words are kind, humble, relevant, and inspiring. I found myself smiling throughout, not at all overwhelmed by the idea of spending time in the Bible. Every word directed my heart back to scripture.
Reading this book feels like sitting down and having a conversation with your best friend over a cup of tea. It makes you feel as though the two of you are having the best conversation, sharing not only with each other but also with God. This Book is For You showed me that the bible offers me the chance to learn WHO God is as much as who WE ARE in relationship with God. A beautiful read, very much recommended.
The Bible is not an end in itself, but rather a big story that brings us to God, introducing us to his heart and reassuring us that he’s not far away at all. So, if you are one of those readers who has convinced herself that the Bible is only for varsity-level Christians, or if your only exposure has been chopped-up, cherry-picked stories, take heart because understanding the big picture changes everything.
In This Book Is for You, Tricia Lott Williford argues that the Old and New Testaments do their best work together, that the Bible is one big story of redemption with everything before Christ pointing to his coming and everything post-resurrection confirming his impact on our lives. With a few clarifying principles and a strong undercurrent of memoir, Tricia blazes a trail for women who want to become confident students of God’s Word—even when life crowds in and causes us to doubt our discipleship. Never does she arrogate to herself the role of “Bible expert.” The voice that comes through is from a faithful traveling companion on the road of “long obedience.”
Perhaps my favorite feature of the book is Tricia’s advocacy for the humble 3×5 card for carrying around meaningful verses to meditate on in the blur of real life. Truth is big enough to change your life and small enough to fit in your back pocket. The Bible is for everyone. God is for everyone, and you can know God through his Word.
Many thanks to Tyndale/NavPress for providing a copy of this book to facilitate my review, which is, of course, offered freely and with honesty.
"When Jesus walked the earth in his earthly ministry, he often invited people into conversation. He ate dinner in their homes, he attended weddings, and he told stories they could relate to. . .He listened to women who had been ignored, and he welcomed children who had been silenced. . .When Jesus spoke to people, he drew them in right where they were."
And he still does. That not only is the premise of Tricia Lott Williford's new book, This Book Is for You, but it also becomes a promise as the reader delves into its pages. In her book, Williford writes, "Jesus's most personal and direct invitations are buried well into the second half of the Bible, but even the sometimes hard to understand Old Testament is a story of the grander invitation of God inviting His people into relationship. Of how He moved toward them again and again, even when they lost their way."
Williford acknowledges -- even empathizes -- with people's most popular obstacles for reading the Bible. But, like a dear friend who's invited us over for coffee, she gently tears down those walls and invites us into an experience of God we can have no other way. For instance, in her chapter called "Modern Day Psalmist," Williford invites us not only to read the Bible's Book of Psalms, but also "to weave (our) words into theirs, adapting the psalms to become (our) own." In Chapter 2, the author talks about the many translations of the Bible and encourages us to choose the best one for us. "If you're not reading a version that engages your heart, then pick a different one," adding later, "When I relied on somebody else's teaching of the Bible's stories, I was settling for secondhand." She went on to share the warning of Teresa Swanstrom Anderson, who says, ". . .we need to make sure we're not spending more time in books about the Bible than in the actual Bible."
This Book Is for You is filled with fresh reminders for how to keep God's Word in the forefront of our minds, and also illustrates why it's so important. From encouraging young moms with the power and beauty of a 3x5" note card to advocating the recording of our life's headlines and seeing how God's love has endured through it all, Tricia illuminates the living, active power of God's Word for each of us. This Book Is for You, friend. Easily digestible and highly motivational. Read it!
The author uses her personal stories/experiences, both those specifically about the Bible and others that serve as metaphors in the conversation, to share why she loves God's Word and how you can develop a love for it too. Each chapter addresses one or more questions that commonly arise as we try to bring an ancient book into modern, everyday life. This isn't a how-to book, it's not an academic book, nor is it only one individual's take - rather it is like reading the transcription of a conversation you've had with a trusted friend. The author offers "Practice for Your Actual Life" sections at the close of each chapter - allowing you to respond to her experiences and thoughts with your own, making this a two-way conversation (and, often, a three-way conversation as Scripture paraphrases are sprinkled in, and opportunities for you to respond to God exist too).
I have earned a bachelor's degree in Bible and graduate with a master's degree from a Christian seminary. I've served as an international missionary, full-time Bible camp staff, and pastor. Through these experiences, I've come across many who would have benefitted from an approachable, non-judgemental, understandable dialogue concerning the Bible - myself included. This Book if for You not only provides that dialogue, it also offers a launch point for further conversation with those you sit with at the table, in the car, or in the coffee shop. Best of all, it honors God's Word while offering an authentic example (struggles with the successes) of how to love God's words in your actual life and invites you to take the next step (and then the next one after that,...) in pursuing that love for yourself as well!
Tricia Lott Williford can write about any topic in a book, and I know I will love it and learn from it. But when I signed up to be part of the launch team for her latest offering—This Book Is for You—I wasn’t quite sure what I was going to get from it.
I’m not a reluctant Bible reader. I already “love God’s words in my actual life,” to paraphrase the subtitle. Even so, I came away from reading it more encouraged by a book than I have been in a long time.
I think that’s because, in focusing on how she came to fall in love with the Bible, Tricia is really focusing on how she came to know and love the God of the Bible.
If you want to dig into the scriptures for the first time or you simply need some encouragement to keep reading (even when it’s the last thing you feel like doing), This Book Is for You is, well, the book for you.
Whether she’s talking about helpful ways to study the Bible, how to deal with fear and anxiety, the lifesaving practice of writing verses on index cards or how to understand the Old Testament in light of the New, you can count on Tricia to guide you in the right direction—toward the heart of the God whose words have the power to transform your actual life.
Note: I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Tricia's writing is relatable, funny & poignant. Most of all, this book is very readable and full of encouragement. One of my favorite quotes, due my being in the "toddler trenches" as we speak: "There are so many things that can get set aside, paused, put on the back burner, and put on hold during those days, weeks, months, and years in the trenches of the tyranny of toddlers. And the Bible was one of the things that got set aside for me." See what I mean about relatability? And readability? I was able to read the book while nursing a baby, sipping my lukewarm coffee and in-between errand running and actually enjoy it and grasp the points! Tricia goes on to suggest the practical solution that are 3x5 cards featuring hastily jotted verses of scripture. The book is full of such suggestions - ideas for integrating more Bible into the bounds of everyday living. What verse graces my first 3x5 card? Of course, in my everyday chaos you might reasonably guess I would choose Psalm 46:10 (Be still and know that I am God), but actually, I went with 2 Timothy 1:7: For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-control. (I think we all could use a little of that :))
In This Book Is For You, Tricia Lott Williford gives practical application for reading the Bible for your day to day life. And as seemingly bland as that first sentence sounds, how often do we see the Bible as some religious text that gives us direction or a pep talk when we're feeling down? But what the Bible is is life. There is no human experience that the Bible does not speak into. It is God's very word for us. Tricia writes personally, like having tea with a mentor, from her experience and study. From the depth of suddenly losing her husband to the joys of raising her sons and all the life in between, she has built and rebuilt her life on the Word. For anyone trying to figure out what the Bible is for. For anyone who has lost a love for reading God's Word. For anyone who needs just a bit of encouragement and a cup of coffee, this is a good book for you. Read and apply it as you reach for God's Word. Become a modern day psalmist. Carry around a 3x5 with a verse for those in-between moments. Be encouraged as you fall in love with with the very God who wants you to know Him more.
I received an advanced reader copy from the publisher for an honest review. These words are my own.
Tricia loves the Lord. And His Word. She didn't always appreciate the latter and this book sets out to share how she helped change her mindset about the wonders and joys of being continually in the Word.
Tricia has a lovely relaxed voice which makes this an easy read. Often, I felt I was sitting opposite Tricia yarning about our favourite aspects of the Bible. Each chapter is short and there's no deep theology, simply practical down-to-earth nuts and bolts encouragement about why reading the Word will change one's life and love affair with Jesus.
Each chapter ends with a practical section. I thought this could have been a little more comprehensive and wonder if there's opportunity for Tricia to build upon this small book with a practical bible study style book that helps readers to follow a similar path in diving into particular books of the Bible.
It's never to late to fall in love with God's Word and this book will go a little way to help fuel such a desire.
Recommended.
I received an early ebook copy from the publisher via NetGalley with no expectation of a positive review.

In the book This Book Is For You, author Tricia Lott Williford, writes about the life change which the Bible can bring to your life. Williford writes the from the pain of suddenly becoming a widow with small children and the real struggles of life. She writes, “We want Jesus’ to work in the ways we expect him to, in a way that makes logical, mathematical sense. Like in Jesus’ parable of the vineyard workers, he tells a story of those who believed their reward was due to them because they had served longer, worked harder, been more faithful. But it’s God’s choice to do what he wants with the power and sovereignty that he has.” Williford is not a theologian, and it shows in some of her statements. But she writes from a heart of loving God and His Word. I would recommend this book. I received a copy of this e-book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book really was for me; someone searching for a deeper relationship with God. She made me want to go search up things, and find the wisdom of life that the good book has for me.
Thank you Tricia for this lovely read, I shall pass it on. Better yet recommend they buy it!
This book was full of so much good every day life application, explaining how to use the Bible I your actual life. So many sweet “nuggets” of perspective you haven’t otherwise realized in your days of reading the Bible. Great book for those who are curious about the Bible and Faith, as well as new believers and even long time believers like myself. Can’t recommend it enough.
This is an excellent book. Too often we see the Bible as something being used to instruct, defend, or harm. Tricia Lott Williford uses humor, vulnerability, honesty, and her own life experience to help you see how the Bible (and God) can be a part of your life. She makes the Bible real and relatable. This book is FOR YOU.
