I’ve been on the run from wolf shifters since the day I was found as the sole survivor of a pack massacre. It would figure that days after my twenty-first birthday I would be abducted off the street and dragged to the one place I don’t want to be.
The one place I shouldn’t be if I want to live more than a few days: The High Alpha’s Estate.
Every five years the horny old bastard holds a feast where any wolf who has come of age is to shift for the first time.
It’s supposed to be a gathering of packs so that wolves can find their fated mates, but Mr. High Alpha likes to use it to inspect all the new shifters and get his pick of the litter. It’s why his pack is so powerful, and why he rules over everyone. It’s also why the female shifters flock to his estate in the hopes of being picked as his mate.
Which is yet another reason I shouldn’t be here. I was supposed to be hiding from the High Alpha, but now he seems to be everywhere, and it sure as hell looks like he’s got something planned for me.
I need to get out of here, and fast, because what I’ve been running from for the past twelve years is about to explode. If I’m not careful it’s going to take out more than a few wolves, including the one guy who can probably tame my beast.
My fated mate.
That is, of course, if the High Alpha doesn’t claim me first.
Wolf, Mated is the first book in the Crescent Moon Shifters series. This book is chock full of rejected mates, sarcastic females, powerful alphas, and so much steam you will need to recharge your kindle...
Whew!! So much hate for this story, well, that's pretty much what drew me into reading this baby... I seriously didn't feel the triggers that everyone warned about in this story, but the story was very creative and very original, and I couldn't put it down. I devoured this one in one sitting, and now I'm ready to dive into the second part to see where these characters go from that crazy ending.
So ... where were the trigger warnings for this book. Non consent warnings for the fact the the FMC was equivalent to drugged and raped repeatedly throughout the book? I honestly felt sick and it was not an enjoyable read. I get that authors are searching for something different. As a reader, I'm always looking for something unique. But this wasn't what I was looking for. The other thing that makes it not a good read is really didn't move. Basically once the villain glamoured and raped her the first time, it was just rinse and repeat most of the book. She barely even saw her fated mate, and didn't even interact with him until close to the end. All it did was foster hopelessness and left the FMC looking weak and foolish. I did finish the book only to find out what was going on, but I actually paused reading to read other books about 70% through. I then came back and finished it to get rid off my list, I did consider not finishing. I won't read the following book/s.
Yes it has triggers get over it… it fiction not facts it’s makebelieve not real everyone claiming it should be listed as triggers I don’t understand why? It’s not real it doesn’t talk about anything real.. I loved the story and can’t wait to see where Nova goes next hope she really gives Grayson a run for the money or blood maybe . I think it was a great book and love that the series is complete because I will keep reading thank you Rebecca for writing such a great fiction book!
This is, I think my first read by Rebecca Ethington. 'Wolf, Shifted' book 1 in the 'Exiled World: The House of the Crescent Moon' started out pretty strong.
In the beginning Nova is handcuffs with zip ties that have an infusion of witch magic. Then just a chapter later Alpha smells witch in one of Grayson's hall. Jump forward a chapter or two and Nova's wolf is wanting to submit to Grayson regardless of what she has been told about him. Also, she finds herself changing her opinion of Greyson when she is in his company. The feeling is more intense when he touches her.
I drew the conclusion that Greyson was working with a witch to bind the wolf's into submitting to him. In the end, seems I was both right and wrong. He was using a witch, just not to bind wolf's. Yes the witch made charms for Greyson but she was just on of his harem of flesh to seek pleasure from.
Greyson was actually a vampire. He had used his vampire glamor on the wolf's to trick them into submission. However, from what I gather if I'm understanding correctly Greyson is a hybrid shifter just like Nova.
This truly sucks for Alpha Asher, as Nova is his true fated mate and he has no choice but to cut the bond as Nova already submitted to Greyson.
Book 2, should become very interesting at this point! I'm off to get it and start it!! ~Laters Peeps
Interesting start to this wolf shifter story; wolf shifter Nova has been on the run from shifters for 12 years, but it seems her luck has run out. She’s drugged and kidnapped by some annoying wolf shifters, and is forced before the alpha of all alphas; a douche who wants to rule all. Love Nova’s sass and that she stands up for herself; her outfit choices are questionable, but she has strength. There’s dual POV with wolf shifter Asher as well; he’s trying to hide how alpha he is, so the “supreme” alpha doesn’t kill his pack, but that’s difficult when the “supreme” alpha wants the same thing Asher wants, Nova. Things were going good, but unfortunately, Nova wasn’t strong enough to completely fight against the bad people in this story, so things turn towards the negative. I’m not a fan of how things are left in this book; there’s triggers in this read, mind rape that leads to actual rape, and I just wasn’t a fan of certain character’s reactions to this. I’m disappointed in both Nova and Asher. With that said, the story is still an interesting one and I do want to see where the story ends up; I’m hoping that there will be more wins for the “good” guys. I think this will at least be a trilogy, so I’m probably not going to get my happy for way too long, but I like the writing style, so I’m hoping I won’t have to deal with the supreme douche’s actions for long. Despite not liking how things go in this book, I’m going with a 4 rating.
This book is like every other werewolf book. So, exactly what i wanted. I just hated how long it took to get to the main plot point and the female mc kept saying shit that she would do and then did the opposite everytime.
Calm down trigger chics. Lower the boil. THERE IS NOT RAPE IN THIS BOOK. AGAIN, THERE IS NOT (as in NO) rape in this book. The storyline is reminiscent of True Blood in the way Vampires can glamour others. Did a vampire glamour the FMC so she thought he was her mate? Yes. Did they have sex? Yes. She was attracted to him, but her wolf was not. BECAUSE he glamoured her wolf, her human side acted on the attraction. The storyline is exciting. The writing is excellent. There was the right amount of world building. Definitely a quality story. I have read so many poorly written shifter books lately that I felt like a kid on Christmas morning with this book.
The author knows how to write but I think it went a little too far in the sex without consent. SPOILER ALERT. I didn’t get far enough to see how the head alpha got other alphas to submit of women (including the main character) to feel desire for him when they don’t really want it and tricking her into feeling like they have a mate bond. But I hav emu suspicions. Asher, the main characters TRUE mate and not the scumbag Head Alpha, saw something that made him suspect that the head alpha was using a witch who he said are dark and evil. I am guessing the head alpha was doing that to get other wolfs to submit and female wolfs in his bed when without that, they would not want it. Screams molestation and rape. It was taken too far.
This is book one of the Exiled World: The House of the Crescent Moon series and the main character is Nova, a lone wolf who has been on the run for the last twelve years, after she was found to be the only survivor of a pack massacre. Her father hid her away after it happened, until he met an untimely death himself just two years ago. She has been on her own ever since and has tried to keep on the move and follow all of his rules to keep alive. She was warned never to allow herself to shift ever again, having shifted apparently at the site of the massacre, well before she should have ever shifted. She was also told to avoid ever meeting with the High Alpha, Greyson Dillon. Unfortunately, just before her twenty first birthday, she gets kidnapped by some of his henchmen and brought to his estate, just in time for the latest Moon Year. An event where all young shifter pups who were of the age to have their first shift, came to the High Alpha, to be helped with their first ever shift. Grey would then take all the strongest into his Crescent Moon pack, leaving all the other packs weak and unable to challenge him. Other single shifters would come together, hoping to find their fated mates, with massive orgies happening. Asher a True Alpha, his sister Peyton, and his Beta, Dax have been invited to the High Alpha’s estate, or rather forced to come and allow his sister to go through the training for her first shift and then probably be taken into the High Alpha’s pack, whilst Ash will be forced to submit to him, as all other pack Alpha’s already have. Otherwise, there will be war and Asher’s pack is only a small one and wouldn’t have much of a chance against the might of all the other packs, led by Greyson! Nova is being kept locked in a room, by Kat and Hank, Greyson’s right hand people, whilst he wants to meet her and her wolf. He tells her she is his mate and only her wolf is strong enough for his! Whenever she is in his presence, she gets a strange feeling and is suddenly attracted to him, and soon forgets why she was warned to stay away from him! The High Alpha has his whole estate stinking of his scent, to an overpowering level, especially in the rooms Asher, Dax and Peyton have been given. Asher challenged and killed his own father, who allowed his pack to beat their mates and so much more, shifting before he was allowed to and becoming a possible sign of dissent to the High Alpha’s rule, which he won’t allow. All the other Alphas have submitted to Greyson, all at the same time, which is unheard of. Asher sees Nova being dragged into the building soon after he arrives and his wolf recognises her straight away as its mate. It takes a little longer for Asher to believe it and he wants to see her in person first, but Greyson is having her kept separate from them, as much as possible. Nova has no knowledge of pack matters, having been raised by her father whilst in hiding, and so knows nothing about fated mates and how they can recognise each other. Her only friend is an online person called Hiss, who is really excited she is going to meet Greyson, along with all other single female shifters, who are desperate for him to claim them as his mate! Grey marks her with a diamond bracelet, letting all the other females know that she is his, but when she sees Asher in person, the sparks fly and she gets to break the hold the High Alpha has on her, if only for a few minutes at a time. She tries to escape a few times, but is always stopped before she can get too far! Asher and his small group soon realise that Greyson Dillon is not a wolf shifter like he is pretending to be and there is some serious magic involved in his ability to glamour everyone else into obey his every wish. The race is on to either escape or save his fated mate, but it soon becomes clear that he won’t be able to do both like he wanted. A massive reveal towards the end of the story and a cliffhanger of an ending, leaving me desperate to read the next book in the series! I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
World build: Well crafted. The care Ethington took in creating this world is evident. Hierarchy, species, and roles of the characters are clear and no confusion found.
Storyline: This book popped up on one of my feeds and I took a risk on it. Ethington opens with a trigger warning which I highly appreciated. Granted I am generally not a fan of trigger inducing books, but this one shocked me in a good way. We are given bread crumbs throughout the read leading us to its staggering final pages. The intensity of the read never slacks up. I felt tense and on edge through the entire read. I would love to say more about the storyline however there is so much in this read a spoiler is impossible to avoid. Therefore, I will leave this section as it is.
FMC: Is kick-ass and heart breaking all wrapped in one. Nova has been running from her DARK past for 12 years only to be caught and brought before the High Alpha (Greyson). Greyson is the one man her father warned her about and now she is his chosen mate. Nova can not figure out why her wolf becomes so docile around Greyson. Since she was not raised in a pack she assumes this is a sign of a fated mate. It is not. The only man that makes her question this is the one wolf that makes hers stand up and demand to be set free. Asher knows from the second he sees Nova she is his fated mate, but he can not understand why she does not feel it on the same level. Cue suspense, action, and a lot of tears.
MC: Asher aggravated me a bit. Now there are reasons he does not do what I want him to but dang it....maybe things would have turned out different. I need to stop cause this is book is so full it is difficult not to reveal too much. Anyways, Asher is the first alpha to turn into a wolf without the High Alpha overseeing the shift in many many years. Asher has revealed himself as a true alpha and the one and only person who has a chance at defeating Greyson. *fingers crossed*
I am heartbroken, and angry by the end of the read. Yet, I am desperate for the next book.
I waited for this book & was excited to read it. However, about halfway through I began to feel really sick to my stomach at a major plot point to the story. *Spoiler & TW: Non-Consensual Sex* * The main character Nova is “seduced” by the villain & she is conflicted throughout the story. Without giving away everything, I can say that Nova is essentially drugged and repeatedly violated although it’s written as Nova being “tricked” rather than the truth of her being incapable of giving consent & therefore actually assaulted . This story would’ve been equally compelling without having Nova violated, if she had just been confused and conflicted about her feelings. At minimum, there should be trigger warnings on this book. I’d like to say that it was well written, but I’m shocked that the writer, editor, proofreader & beta readers didn’t point out that Nova was repeatedly assaulted & that the story didn’t need to go that far and even if they didn’t take issue with that, they should’ve pointed out the need for a trigger warning.
I honestly had no desire to continue with this. Kept pushing it off thinking I’d get around to it but the more and more I thought about the storyline the more I hated it. Bottom line is this. If felt very much like a magical date rape type of storyline. I mean this girl is kidnapped, forced to join this moon ceremony thing and then this bigwig alpha calls her to him. Again she is forced to go to his room where mentally she says she wants nothing to do with this guy but the keeps getting all hot and bothered against her will. And as soon as she’s away from him she wonders what’s wrong with her and why would she be attracted to him. Then she goes to this dance where there are orgys and sex going on all over. She was so turned on with it all (again out of character) she almost wanted to join them. Magical tape. Forcing someone to do something they normally wouldn’t do/ I could be completely off base. And it could be nothing like that. I was only 25% into the book but this is the feel I got from it.
THE “AUTHOR” GAVE ABSOLUTELY NO WARNING THAT THERE WAS RAPE IN THIS BOOK!!!!! WHEN A PERSON IS DRUGGED THEY ARE NO LONGER CAPABLE OF CONSENTING TO ANY FORM OF SEXUAL ACT. NOT EVERYONE MIGHT RECOGNIZE THIS. REBECCA ETHINGTON, I WAS 15 WHEN I WAS DRUGGED, AND RAPED, I’M 32 NOW. IT’S ONLY WHEN I GET TRIGGERED BY SOMETHING LIKE THIS THAT WILL BRING BACK FLASHBACKS AND DARK THOUGHTS. THERE ARE MANY BOOKS THAT I HAVE DECIDED AGAINST, BECAUSE THE AUTHOR WAS CONSIDERATE ENOUGH TO GIVE “TRIGGER WARNINGS”. SO, TO THOSE WHO MIGHT HAVE A SIMILAR PAST TO ME, PLEASE BE WARNED OF “POSSIBLE TRIGGERS”, OR TO THOSE WHO SIMPLY DON’T WANT TO READ SUCH A THING, SAME WARNING.
I have never left a review before and I have been on goodreads for years, but I feel compelled to leave a review for this book. This is the worst book that I have ever read. I have read thousands upon thousands of books and I have not finished some, not liked some, but this is literally the WORST book I have ever read, and that’s saying something.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME reading this atrocity!
Guys I thought this book would improve-I had hope for no reason of course, but still I had hope. However, as I read, it progressively got worse and worse up until the very last chapter where it ended in a humongous bomb of smelly trash!
I thought this book was supposed to be about a female badass shifter, but the author made her into a flop of a MC. I couldn’t take anymore after 53%. This story was going no where and there was so much dread going on with the villains—-it left no hope for the MC. Honestly, it leaves you feeling depressed that the villain got the girl with little effort and the MCs true mate what….just let it happen?!? Don’t get it🤷🏻♀️ don’t get me wrong I love me some dark romance, but this was not that…this was just depressing, boring, beat you down til there are no more reasons to go on reading because the end is just gloom🤦🏻♀️
After reading the reviews I was intrigued ...figured "a new take on the supernatural h-yes". No just No the FMC is ridiculously stupid like seriously forced myself to keep reading figured at some point things had to change. By the end I was just pissed. If you enjoy people being conned and when they finally figure it out they're angry with the wrong people go ahead read it. If you're like me and after continuously having signs obvious ones and characters not catching on pisses you off just stay away don't even try you will be disappointed. 🤬
I flew through this book. I breathed them into my lungs like they were the air I needed. Nova is so freaking bad a**. She's real and isn't playing at being strong. She just is. Peyton is an awesome side character. Their friendship was a great way to lighten the story. Then there's Asher. He's noble and powerful and fiercely loyal. Which makes the ending that much more brutal. I can't wait to see what Nova has in store for him and Greyson in the next book.
I was into the book and storyline. But it kept going back and forth, was like having a manic episode. Up and down, thouroughly twisty turney, like being on a spinning ride that jerks you back and forth, not fun, became nauseating. I mean how do you actually come back from that? Now 2nd book seems to be going in similar direction. STOP THE RIDE I JUST WANT TO RUN AND PUKE IN THE BUSHES! Its a shame it had promise now its almost literally going to be beating a dead horse.
This made me so annoyed!! I'm literally punching air right now. By the end of the book, I literally wanted to strangle all three of the main characters istg. The book is well written and everything and bad things will happen to the characters, of course, but the amount of manipulation and brainwashing in this book makes me want to cry. And don't forget the pervy Hank who literally wants to have sex with every single girl and verbalizes it. I think Rebecca Ethington is a great author but seriously, I don't even want to read the blurb of the next book of the series. I'm so irritated.
I wasn't going to review this but after looking and seeing all the reviews saying this needs a TW and there still isn't one I'm super grossed out. This book has major triggers. Like a number of them. The fact that people are pointing this out and it's not been addressed is awful. That being said if you don't have triggers it's still awful. It doesn't let up. There's no arc there's no reprieve. It's just bad after bad. I also don't see how it's a dark romance when the only actual relationship in the book isn't consensual.
Rare for me to DNF at 60%... By this point she hadn't interacted more than 2 sentences with the MMC and the only sex is with her and the obvious villain... Thats not now you build a romance story no matter what the reason is. I don't care if she's drugged or magically in a coma. If you are going to do OM drama, have the sexual relationship be over with by at least 50%. I need something to root for and this was just a waste of time. A FMC that is strong but doesnt really try to fight anyone and seems to be subdued and controlled VERY easily.
It had the makings of a great book but I was highly disappointed on the turn the story took. I fast forwarded it to the end just to satisfy my curiosity to see what actually happened and I'm still unsatisfied, horrible ending horrible middle grate start but everything about this was horrible which is a shame because It really could've been a great book.
Nova has been hiding from the High Alpha for a long time. But every 5 years, he has a feast where wolves to turn 21 have to attend and shift for their first time. Although it is supposed to let wolves can find their fated mates, the High Alpha takes his pick. And unfortunately, Nova is forced to attend this time. Will she be chosen by the man she is trying to avoid? Is she in danger?
Written from Nova and Ashers POV.... The world building and character development was excellent. I was getting a little frustrated with Nova giving into Grey but I worked it out before the end what he was and what he was doing to her. The storyline was really good. A lot of sexual content but with the wrong guy. Asher finally rejected his fated mate and that was a shocker. Nova well she was Greys for now. Highly recommended
This book has dubious sexual consent in it. It was very uncomfortable to read. I wouldn't say it was rape but it was close. It could defiantly trigger some people. The reason I say this is because Nova still wanted it when out of the direct sight of the High Alpha and away from his glamour, at first. However, this means she was painfully annoying because she was so obtuse. After running for 12 years, I expected more from her. The whole situation really brought my enjoyment of the book down.
Thats all I can say! What happen to Nova as a child was some dark evil sh*t! I feel for her and Asher. I'm so excited to dive into the next book because I have no idea where this story is heading or how you even come back from something as terrible as what happened to Nova. If your looking for a different kind of werewolf story then here it is. It's also duel POV's!
Damn! Was definitely not expecting this kind of book and oh it’s good like super amazing and out of this world good. Just so unexpected. You think after reading how ever many shifter books that you have read it all different types, different plots etc but no this is a first for me with the surprises it’s offered. Brilliant book 1. It’s incredible and I can’t wait to dive into book 2.
Rooting for a happy ending. Wanting to kick Greysons ass. Yelling at Nova to wake up and listen to her wolf. Yeah, this all happened. I thoroughly enjoyed the story. This is a well written shifter story about Nova, Asher and Greyson. And yes the ending left me growling. For those that love a good shifter story that gas some added surprises I highly recommend this book!
Imagine, if you will, a life of fear and flight, always looking over your shoulder, afraid of your next step... And yet, and yet... Deep inside, a yearning.... A yearning to belong...
Intense! Captivating! Dark, gritty and graphic! The ending will leave you reeling!
