Paige’s Story may be over, but that doesn’t mean the lives of the people in it stop. This collection of seven short stories follows the residents of Fort Thomas through their ups, downs, and sometimes hilarious screw-ups. From coping with loss and trauma, to a girls’ night out gone wrong, these stories are a heartstring tugging, laugh out loud look into the personal lives of Paige, Alpha, Fer, and all your favorite Fort Thomas characters.
A.J. Bass was born in the never ending cornfield known as Indiana, grew up there, and lives there still. She likes corn. Don’t judge.
In the winter of 1991, her mother gave her a copy of Mega Man 3 as a Christmas gift and immediately sparked a love of science fiction, video games and, of course, robots.
She graduated Indiana University in 2004 with a degree in studio art, which is why she needs a day job.
An avid martial artist, cartoon junkie, and toy collector, Bass is most comfortable curled up watching movies with her husband and two kids, and sipping whiskey on her back patio with a gigantic plate of nachos.
Usually, I like my science fiction more space-y, but I love the Fort Thomas Series. Paige's Story was wonderful and heartbreaking, and, true to form, Bass's short story collection is wonderful and heartbreaking. I laughed until I cried, and I just plain cried. The worldbuilding is awesome, the characters are family, and I highly recommend this series. Please read Paige's Story first.
I was pretty amazed and the range in the stories. Some are heartfelt, others more action packed and some pretty funny. I liked the “Girls Night” stories served to kind of ground the collection.
These did not strikes me as stories that were edited from the initial book or random one off stories. The author really spent some time in this world and the stories appear to be part of a bigger goal of universe building.
I would highly recommend reading Paige’s Story (which I read and loved) first as it really sets up the world in these stories.
A fantastic journey of Paige continues. Dealing with a tragedy brings sorrow, brings doubts, and anger. In this tale, Paige has to deal with losing her parents. PTSD has set in. Anger and frustration, but there is hope with friends and new family. It also gives some background on other characters. I definitely enjoyed the surprise ending. Now, I will wait for the next chapter of the story. It’s even better if you listen to it!
AJ Bass has written a wonderful collection of short stories all related to the world of Fort Thomas and the characters she created in Paige’s Story. Some stories are very heartfelt, others are packed with action, and others are fun glimpses into the lives of characters we were introduced to in the first novel. This is a companion novel and definitely should be read after reading Paige’s Story. I’m looking forward to reading the next installment, which I believe is a novel.
This fills out characters, and brings them more into your life and reality. I feel like the characters are my friends and laugh and cry with them. Few authors connect with me like this.
