Вугледар – 2099
Марина Гримич у своєму новому романі «Вугледар – 2099» зазирає в наше майбутнє. Принаймні так їй здається. А як воно насправді – не знає ніхто. Адже з кумедного прогностичного сюжету виринають добре впізнавані реалії, характери і звички.
Дія роману розгортається не в Києві і навіть не у Львові, а у двох непримітних, на погляд сучасного обивателя, локусах. Перший – Вугледар. Сьогодні це маленьке, чисте і миле шахтарське містечко в Донецькій області, а в майбутньому – університетський і технологічний центр світового значення і надсучасна міська агломерація. Друге місце дії – Піски Удайські: нині це скромне сільце в Полтавській області, але в майбутньому йому доведеться рятувати, щоправда, в дуже оригінальний спосіб, репутацію України.

This is a SF utopian satire written by a contemporary Ukrainian author Марина Гримич, who is more known for her books about post-WW2 Ukraine, like Клавка and Юра. While formally it fits the genre – the story is set in the future, with new tech and new social relations, it is in no way an attempt to guess what can happen, but just laughing at classic utopian tropes as well as commenting on the present day. The English title is Vuhledar-2099. Vuhledar is a town with population of around 15’000. Its name can be translated as a ‘Gift of Coal’ because its base is one of the largest coal mines in the region, which formed the basis of its economy. The book was written in 2020 and in 2022-2023 the town is under constant heavy attacks by Russian aggressors, with 100% of the buildings damaged and fewer than 500 civilians left. The reality made a much more harsh turn than any author could have imagined.
This is the year 2099 and Vuhledar is a large prosperous megapolis, the base of the world’s leading university and research labs, heavily robotized and this is chiefly a success created by a single woman, Leonida Lvovna, who heads the Vuhledar university, is one of three deputies of Ukrainian United Libertats, who was born in 1959, but because she once saved the Earth, she became an eternally living person after genes of naked mole-rats (Heterocephalus glaber) where introduced into her genome.
The city is well described by the following passage:
It can't be anything else - it's some new trick Leonida Lvovna is playing to scare them once again. Most likely, this is some kind of interactive or virtual game in 6D reality. They will play for a while, then they will get bored, and they will return to the bosom of their economic, ergonomic, ecological and aesthetic coal mining paradise, thoughtfully designed and edited, comfortable, tolerant and politically correct!
The story starts with one of the members of a smaller university council, a team handpicked by Leonida Lvovna, the members are all a little abnormal, for example, Vasylkivsky with whom the story starts, is one of only a few citizens of Vuhledar Libertat, who exchanged the benefits of modern, ergonomic, and economical free urban housing for an archaic, cumbersome form of private property that was difficult to maintain and operate, instead of being like everyone else: using a sharing service, entrusting his life to specially trained people and robots, and not bothering with repairs, cleaning, sorting garbage, paying for utilities, saving water and electricity, he (a true dinosaur!) invests his own money in his own home and does the housework himself. He receives an urgent message, that a virus, which wrote to people’s private musical libraries a Soviet song from the 1950s has stoke again. Here readers find out that She [Leonida Lvovna] was the author of the slogan "History is dead! Long live the future!" and initiated the law banning the study of history at school. Because school history is just a manipulation of children's minds. It is naked propaganda. History as a science should be accessible only to the elected few. People with cool heads and a stable psyche. The plan was aimed at making people look to the future and live in the present, rather than crying and sprinkling ashes on their heads about illusory pictures of the past constructed by historians and searching for heroes, on the one hand, and those responsible for all their misfortunes, on the other. And so the Ukrainian United Libertats have been living without history for half a century. Two generations have grown up who do not know who offended their ancestors in the past and do not hold grudges against anyone. As a result, the human brain has activated resources that have not been used before to take constructive action, to create useful things, with a focus on progress. People's mental health improved, they got rid of the inferiority complex and overcame a high level of self-confidence. Modern people living in the territory of the Ukrainian United Libertats are sincerely surprised when some of their neighbors, where history has not been canceled in schools, hold a grudge against them. It's so old-fashioned to dig through the dirty laundry of the past instead of building the future!
Not only history studies but old culture is banned as well. Thus, when one accidentally says “Akela missed” another has to translate it: Clarissa, assessing Vasylkivsky's phrase as safe, explained that Akela is an old wolf from the nineteenth-century English writer Rudyard Kipling's book Mowgli. The poor animal, that is, the wolf, found itself in a situation of discrimination based on ageism and was bullied by politically incorrect members of the pack it had long led. "'Akela missed' is a catchphrase that means 'it's time to retire,'" the head of the department stated.
So, the inner council (and readers) try to find out who is behind the covert insidious plot to return the memories of the past to this happy future, after a bunch of [un]lucky accidents ending up in a local version of the underground.
The book is sometimes funny, but sometimes shows the author’s age, e.g. with her treatment of gender and transgenders in particular a little out of date, describing them as just trying to get the attention of others. All characters behave too like present-day people to state that the author attempted to create a believable picture of the future. It is a nice story to read once, but it is unlikely I’ll ever re-read it.

Роман сучасної української авторки у стилі фантастики.

Події розгортаються в 2️⃣0️⃣9️⃣9️⃣ році у Вугледарі. Вугледар ➖ університетський і технологічний центр світового значення і надсучасна міська агломерація, яке входить в Українські Об'єднанні Ліберати. Це українське майбутнє з найкращим та найбільшим передовим університетом у світі, де працюють найкращі уми, а ще роботи (які виконують замість людей всю роботу), вирішують проблеми з екологією. Майбутнє в якому по суті люди тільки творять дальше майбутнє і навіть про продовження роду цим займається наука та лабораторія.

І всім цим чудовим університетом завідує безсмертна жінка Леоніда Львівна, яка народилася за часів Брєжнєва. І саме вона є творцем Вугледару.
По суті вона єдина хто пам'ятає і знає стару історію. І в цьому ключі чи сюжетні лінії починає розгортатися історія. ➕ до цього всього додається те, що вона є безсмертною. Вона хоче або на пенсію, або померти і звідси починається закручений сюжет.

Молодому поколінню доносять історію, яка сталася максимально останніх 2️⃣0️⃣ років назад. Вважають, що знати всю історію є небезпечно. Мови вчать, але теж якщо довго вживаєш як то кажучи стару мову або неприйнятну треба отримати вакцину і ліки.

Світ, який створений у романі це утопія. Як то кажучи кожна утопія, яка створена вона для читача є жахливою. Книжка доволі цікава, але опису самого світу більше ніж самого сюжету. Але для різноманіття у жанрі утопій, то рекомендую для читання.

Місцями дотепно, але загалом посередньо. Ну, а за таке майбутнє я лише ЗА:
— Ну, ні... — засумнівався Васильківський. — Це ніяка не російська. Перед тим, як відвідати Красноярськ, я ходив на піврічні розмовні курси. Так там такого й близько не було!
Гаїна розсміялася гомеричним сміхом:
— Васильківський, на курсах ти вивчав китайську! А російська мова — це малоукраїнська.
Хоча, там українці не вивчають у школах історії, "не знають, хто кривдив їхніх предків у минулому, й не тримають ні на кого зла."
— Ну, ні... — засумнівався Васильківський. — Це ніяка не російська. Перед тим, як відвідати Красноярськ, я ходив на піврічні розмовні курси. Так там такого й близько не було!
Гаїна розсміялася гомеричним сміхом:

Хоча, там українці не вивчають у школах історії, "не знають, хто кривдив їхніх предків у минулому, й не тримають ні на кого зла."

Цікаво було почитати фантастику, де події відбуваються у наших маленьких містечках. Тим паче у Вугледарі, який наразі знищено росіянами. Книга починається мрійливо про поля чебрецю, що простяглися за технологічним мегаполісом майбутнього. І так вправно це прописано, що я наче відчуваю запах літа.
Вся книга відгонить олдскульною фантастикою, наче занурює тебе в світи "електроніка" чи "аліса, мє-ла-фон". Якісно прописаний світ, персонажі та їх історії. Читаєш і отримуєш задоволення..... до моменту, коли пані Гримич вирішила описати частину подій цитуванням з книги "Кись" Тетяни Толстої. Я не знаю хто це, тому мені допоміг Гугл і це був шок, бо це "неоднозначна" персоналія, мати мудака Артемія Лєбєдєва.......
Пані Гримич, нашо таке робити у 2020 році?
Моє читання закінчилося на першій частині книги, бо далі не стало сил, адже така цікава книга замащена росіським лайном.
Вся книга відгонить олдскульною фантастикою, наче занурює тебе в світи "електроніка" чи "аліса, мє-ла-фон". Якісно прописаний світ, персонажі та їх історії. Читаєш і отримуєш задоволення..... до моменту, коли пані Гримич вирішила описати частину подій цитуванням з книги "Кись" Тетяни Толстої. Я не знаю хто це, тому мені допоміг Гугл і це був шок, бо це "неоднозначна" персоналія, мати мудака Артемія Лєбєдєва.......
Пані Гримич, нашо таке робити у 2020 році?

Читалося цікаво. Це зовсім інша Марина Гримич, ніж я очікувала, але загалом враження позитивні. Було над чим пореготати, було й над чим замислитися. Багато іронії, ідентичності, психології. Наприкінці кіношний екшен. Душа прагнула супермудрого фіналу, а вийшло дуже навіть реалістично.
