It pains me to rate an AJL book this low. I'm trying to remember if I ever have before. But anyway...

As I said in my review for book one of Grinder's story (book 19 of the series), I am a huge, longtime fan of AJL and I will always (eventually) read everything she writes. Especially books from this series. I just love the characters, the world, and the brotherhood/sisterhood she has created here.

That said, it is those aspects of this book that get all the stars here for me...cause I have to admit...Grinder and Serena were kind of boring, people. Even their sex scenes. ***insert a mind photo of me throwing my hands up in confusion***

I just don't understand it. He's an ex-con silver fox...she's a former club girl...they have a delicious age gap...AJL is the author. I don't get why this wasn't magical.

As I mentioned in my review for book 19, their beginning felt very insta-love and I was unable to buy in...so maybe that carried over into this book. I just didn't care. And I should have.

Oh well. Three stars is still a super decent rating and I loved being with all of my characters here. Their banter and interactions were a delight.

Throne of Scars is a contemporary MC Romance by one of my favorite authors of all time Autumn Jones Lake! Throne of Scars is the 20th book in the Lost Kings MC Series, and it picks up where the last book left off. We are immediately thrust into the action. Serena has run away from Grinder after she discovers a secret. Terrified of his reaction, she doesn't know what to do or where to turn. However, Grinder takes his responsibilities seriously, and he loves Serena. He will stop at nothing to ensure that she stays directly by his side, right where she belongs.
description

Told in dual POV, Throne of Scars is a complex story with well-developed characters. The plot is solid, and the pacing is steady throughout the read. I was on the edge of my seat, waiting to see what would happen next as the tension between the characters continued to build. The passion between Grinder and Serena is intense, and as always, the theme of family, love, and loyalty remain the focal point of this series. A true standout in this story is how both Grinder and Serena can lean on each other and find healing together. I am a huge fan of the underdogs in the world, and both Serena and Grinder could not have been better suited for one another.
description

Overall, Throne of Scars will appeal to anyone who loves a good MC romance with complex characters and solid plot development. Throne of Scars is the perfect addition to the series, and I can't wait to see what's next for the men and women of the Lost Kings MC. Since the beginning, I have been a fan of this series, and as always, Autumn Jones Lake has delivered perfection once again!

3 Serena and Grayson Stars

Grinder (Grayson) and Serena's story picks up straight from where it ended in Crown of Ghosts - you do need to read in order. Our couple face a few challenges but there is nothing too angsty. It's very sweet how Grayson is all about Serena especially given how tough he is on the outside.
I liked seeing more of the characters I have loved from book one , Slow Burn in this book and the previous one. It felt more like the older books in that respect but it was lovely to see Rooster and Jiggy in with them too.
Lots of things are bubbling under the surface for several other characters and I have a feeling the next book will see the secrets lurking in the shadows being brought into the light. Autumn being the fab author that she is will no doubt spring some huge twists and surprises too.

This was an enjoyable read - it's sexy , funny , dark in places and has that gorgeous sense of camaraderie , but it felt like Grayson and Serena's story could maybe have been told in one book - that said, I will always devour anything involving the Lost Kings. I am excited for the next instalment but I am fervently hoping that nothing happens / has happened between Shelby's Mum and Jigsaw. I just can't go there.... (purely personal preference as I don't like the older woman trope).

HEA? Yes- these two really are a forever couple. I loved how they solidified their relationship.
Cheating? Absolutely not.

The couple: Grinder (Grayson) and Serena

Romance genre: MC
Series: Lost Kings MC
Length: 458 pages

Plot: At the end of the last book (Crown of Ghosts), . Grinder is desperate to find her, but of course these two lovebirds end up back together. It's the coming together that makes up the plot of the book, along with the community that supports them. Danger always lurks in the background of the Lost Kings world, but sometimes the real danger is in not taking a chance on fully embracing the love being offered.

Commentary: More than anything, our couple is able to work through some grief in their coming back together: Serena needed a support system and didn't really have one; she was working through the trauma from her past with Shadow; Grinder was still trying to assimilate in a world that looked a lot different than when he last saw it; he also was struggling with feeling worthy of the second chance he had. But I loved all of that: it was a story about people in love and ultimately, you have to make peace with yourself to truly love those around you. Gray and Serena were, like most of us, figuring out how to do that.

As always, it was such a treat to meet up with the other Lost Kings again. Z especially had Grinder's back when he went for Serena, and Tawny! Oh Tawny: .
“Tawny’s gotta go,” Jigsaw says.
“We can’t off a brother’s ol’ lady,” Steer argues.
“Who said kill her, you dumb fuck?” Jiggy shouts.

And this final bit of wisdom from Knucklehead himself:
“Bro, why you so worried about everyone’s parenting styles?” Teller asks Rav. “Stay in your porn and chicken nuggets lane.”

Another thing I really loved is how steadfast Grinder was in his support of Serena and all her endeavors. He didn't understand social media, and the idea of making a living from the makeup tutorials never really made sense to him, but that didn't matter, because it made Serena happy:
It might’ve felt like pulling teeth to get Serena to admit where she wanted to go, but once she gets inside the store, she’s a focused hunter, stalking her prey. And here I am lumbering behind her like a polar bear who accidentally ended up at a tea party. Who knew there were entire stores dedicated to…pretty packages of beauty stuff? No wonder Serena’s makeup channel is so popular.

He even remembered and commented later on when she used the gold eye makeup that she picked up on their shopping trip! If she's doing it or saying it, he's noticing. That sort of attention, especially for someone like Serena who has never had it, must be intoxicating.

But it was definitely not all serious and sappy - lots of humor, not just from the LOKI guys, but the girls as well:
“He does give off big murder daddy vibes,” Shelby mutters around her mouthful of cupcake.
Lilly squints. “What?”
Emily has her hand pressed to her lips like she’s trying not to laugh. I narrow my eyes at her. “What’s so funny?”
“She’s right!” Emily bursts into laughter. “I thought the same thing when I met him. The way Serena described him, I expected some soft old dude—”
“Hey!” I smack her arm.
“You know what I mean.” She waves me off. “Then she shows up with hard-bodied Santa.”

Miscellaneous:
I love how Grinder uses some "old fashioned language" - courting, forward women, etc - small details that the author pays attention to and it creates more depth in the character
Pants: Why?????? (I mean, I know why, but still - could have knocked me over!)
Charlotte: My heart just breaks for her a little - it must be so rough
Rock says "simmer down" once

But I'll let Grinder have the last word:
“You’ve given me a life I thought I’d lost.” I kiss her temple. “I’ll cherish you until the day I die.” And even then, it’ll never be enough.

I love the LOKI series so it is not a surprise that I loved this book. Not a surprise that AJL has absolutely nailed it yet again. The book holds plenty of surprises for the reader which although I would not have guessed the direction taken in the story makes me think that they make perfect sense. Autumn has yet again managed to produce a book that holds humour, compassion, passion and given that we are reading about outlaw bikers a smidgeon of violence. A moving story that will keep you gripped from start to finish.

Anyone who’s read my reviews for this series knows I’m a bit of an AJL Fangirl. I preorder every book, no question, and this series has held my interest for many years and 18+ books. But this one tested me. It was the first book in the series I kept putting down because I was bored. I even skimmed some sex scenes and a few paragraphs here and there. That has absolutely never happened before.

I think I was just never really interested in Grinder and Serena as main characters. I wish when he’d came out of prison he’d been a more prominent secondary character so I could have learned to like him a bit more before he got his big romance. And I wish she wasn’t so wishy-washy. But I suppose after 15 years in prison he was due a HEA asap. And he definitely gets it in this one.

My main issue with this book is that nothing much happened for more than 60% of this one. At around 65% I was saying to myself “fucking finally”. Then I was fully on board.

By the epilogue I was satisfied but this one probably won’t be in my reread list. But after 20 books in a series having just 1 that’s not a fave isn’t really anything to complain about.

And I’ve already preordered #21 because reading one book that didn’t totally spark my joy doesn’t lessen my want to read this series.

LOKI20

It takes big balls to write a series more than twenty books long... So many wrong things could happen. HOWEVER... AJL is a magician!
Once you dive in the LOKI family environment, you can't get enough. You can't even look at other MCs without comparing.
I realized while reading Throne of Scars that AJL's top strength is how she nails the character profiles... Grinder was one of the grumpiest character I ever encountered... Serena was so insecure, she would dream about her insecurities... Their interactions with the others where brilliant...
This novel was also hilarious on so many levels.

Anyways... If you don't know the Lost Kings, start by the beginning. If you know them, welcome back and enjoy the ride!

This series is truly amazing and I cannot recommend it enough. TOS was such a great end to Grinder & Serena’s story. This book had the perfect amount of all the things I love so much about the series - the men and their relationships with each other, the funny & dirty banter, the MC life/business/associations (more of this than the last book which I absolutely loved), the ladies friendship, the sex. Cannot wait for the next book in the series and have some secrets revealed!

I mean… where do I even begin?!

Autumn AGAIN hit the thing right out of the park!

Grinder is the most perfect grumpy with his sunshine Serena. Serena’s insecurities and anxieties are so wonderfully written to allow the reader to feel all the things right along with her.

Being able to see the gang again and again was, as always, the exact thing I needed. Autumn’s ability to foreshadow has my little plot bunny brain working on overdrive!

Grinder and Serena’s happily for now is finally here and it was absolutely perfect for them!

Give me all of their stories!

It was written well, but absolutely nothing happens. Three trips to the parole officer, three trips to Z’s club, a baby shower given at 6 weeks pregnant and the compulsory early relationship “misunderstanding”. Why the two books?

Part 2 of Grinder & Serena's story and talk about a story!!
If you're new to Autumn's work, you are in for one heck of a treat...
Autumn hasn't just written a pile of books, she has invented this LOKI world that I wish I could visit, there are people (yes people!) who I know as well as my own friends, I cheer for them, hurt for them, laugh with them - you get the drift. And their stories? I have cried with everyone of them!

Throughout these stories, we hear of Grinder who is locked up, serving time for something he didn't do (I'm not going to deny he has done some questionable things but this was a setup!)
Anyway, each King has visited him over the years and they always speak of how they can't wait until he's home but what was originally a few years turned into 15!

Well, now he's out and there's no denying it's hard for him! The men know it's an adjustment so they give him some leeway but I love that Rock & Z don't let him away with any disrespect or stupidness, he knows that what they say, goes. End off! #ZsMine! He'll soon realise that these men don't do anything they don't want to!

It seems he isn't the only one adjusting and not ready to accept help because his Buttercup still can't believe that she's found her hea with him, she's still waiting on the other shoe to drop which made me so sad, that girl has been through so much and we get to learn a lot more of her history throughout this - damn she hurt my heart!

I think I might be getting side tracked? I could talk about these people for yonks and never tire!

My review wrapped up ....
Grinder & his Buttercup are so well suited, there's this connection between them that neither can quite believe yet they know it's true.
The other Kings and their women are still as awesome as ever! The banter between them all had me in kinks, I don't know how to describe how they are with each other, they all have this way with each other, they jest yet the respect is second to none.
And even though this is Grinders story, the rest of the clan is still included, I love them all, I have read and reread every book in this series several times over and Throne Of Scars will be no different!

Congrats Autumn, you have added to the LOKI world, made it all the more awesome and left me yearning for more!

Five stars will never be enough for these books!

Another outstanding book by the Queen of MC novels. Autumn Jones Lake not only have you given us this great MC with an amazing cast of characters that we have come to know and love as our own family, but you also keep delivering books of a very high quality with a unique storyline. Throne of Scars is the second book to Serena and Grinder’s story and it had all the emotions and feels as the first book but this book proved that this MC is truly a brotherhood, a sisterhood and a family first and foremost and any of them would stop at nothing to protect their loved ones. To say that I enjoy spending time with these characters is most definitely an understatement because I love reading everything about them and the world that Autumn Jones Lake has created. I loved the banter between them and at times I laughed so hard I was in tears. The fact that these characters have wormed their way into my heart is a testament to the talent of Autumn Jones Lake. This book was so much more than I was expecting but Autumn Jones Lake is a phenomenal writer and every time I read one of her books I am forever grateful that she is sharing this gift with us. After 20 books this series only gets better and better and there is still so much more to come. Congratulations on another amazing read and all the accolades that you will not doubt receive.

Another freaking awesome book! Great ending to Grinder's story! This book is part two of Grinder's story, so you definitely need to read part one. Grinder and Serena have pasts filled with pain and suffering, now it's time for sweet rewards. Unfortunately, both are too scared and cautious. Who can blame them? In part one, just when they finally take a breath and start to relax, evil once again showed up and Serena paid the price. This book is retribution for Grinder in more ways than one. It's a sweet romance between the two. Ms. Jones does a beautiful job showing the softer side of Grinder. We see the love and gentle care with which he treats Serena and the gruff, grumpy, alpha he is with everyone else.

I always LOVE my time with the LOKI family! The family this group has formed warms my heart and the ribbing antics are always hilarious! We get glimpses of issues surfacing with supporting characters that willing keep us looking forward to future books!!!

Another fabulous book!!!

Last part of Grayson and Serena's books. A much older man and a woman that is young enough to be his daughter. Age gap is not one I enjoy. Maybe if in the picture he didn't look older than the 50 years he is supposed to be it wouldn't be as bad.

A lot of twist and turns in this one. Finally one of the women who I really don't like and I'm sure many of you don't like her either finally get her pay back.

This book left a lot of questions unanswered...

Spoiler ahead

Okay.... what happened when Sway and his b#tch of a wife got arrested? When did Gray and Serena get married? When was the baby born? Any problems? ETC.... there's more but that was just off the top of my head.

On to the next book....

I loved the book and am whole heartedly recommending it. This is a fun romance with an HEA. Fortunately the heroine has the fortitude to rescue herself if she needs to. Her man is a Grown Assed Murder Daddy who will go to extremes to protect her. The story starts right where Crown of Ghosts ends. Grinder knows his limits, but is mature and willing to put whatever work in to prove himself so he’s in a better position to take care of Serena. He’s not looking for shortcuts, but he wont allow any one to undercut him or his woman. He loves and respects her and that is very clear. Serena is a hopeful person even though life has been cruel to her. She’s realistic, hardworking and willing to grow toward a better life for herself and her family.

In this installment we get to see some of our LOKI faves and some un-likeable recurring characters. The un likable ones reaped what they sowed (I'm looking at you Tawny&Sway) & it was very satisfying to see. The likable ones are a bit more complex in this outting (I'm looking at Loco, Priest& Valentina) and I’d love to see more of their back-stories at some point.

This installment was entertaining and I’m looking forward to my re-read as I anxiously await the next installment in this series.

I anxiously awaited this book to see how Grinder and his Buttercup find their HEA. As usual, Autumn Jones Lake does not disappoint. Grinder didn't think he could love again, but then Serena soothes his soul in a way that no one else could. Yes, there is an age gap, but how can you not love them as a couple? They really compliment each other!! This book was not only about Grinder and Serena, but also about how the other members - both upstate and downstate - are there to support this union. I won't post any spoilers here, but I love how Autumn brings back all the characters you love (and hate!) and how their lives are evolving. I also love how the women are building their own club within the Lost Kings. Autumn has created something special with this series that I have never experienced before...and hope she keeps them going for many books to come. Thank you, Autumn!!

I was rooting for a HEA for Grinder, and his buttercup, Serena. Two damaged characters: one changed by years wasted in prison with so many lost dreams, the other trapped by diffidence and crippling self-doubt.

They say the path to true love doesn’t run smoothly, and although Grinder and Serena meet a number of roadblocks on their journey, what they create between them is beautiful, and in the end worth fighting for.

Throne of Scars is in essence, a feel-good book, flush with good humour and moments of high emotion. Autumn matches the strength of her Lost King’s brotherhood, with an equally powerful and supportive sisterhood, and this particular aspect of the book makes my heart soar.

This was highly anticipated book, and, without doubt will be a much applauded conclusion to Grinder and Serena’s story.

One of the best MC series out there!

This series just gets better and better with every book! When I started this series (almost at the start) I never expected to fall so completely in love with the characters in the way I have. Each character's personality is so well rounded and consistent in each and every book, its like getting together with family after living away for months at a time.
It almost seems wrong that these people aren't living, breathing entities somewhere. The rapport between the characters feels so alive too, like it's truly happening in the room.
I cant wait for the next installment of this amazing series that I never want to end... So, sorry Autumn, you'll be writing about these people until your fingers fall off!

The LOKI world was one of my first introductions to MC romance and it was love at first read. Since then, now twenty books later, this series by Autumn Jones Lake just keeps getting better. This second installment of Grinder and Serena’s story, shows us that love does indeed conquer all and what really matters is being true to yourself and the family you create, whether by blood or via found family as is the Lost Kings theme. I really enjoy the character development and the entire world that Ms. Lake has created and how in each book we get glimpses of favorite characters and amazing things yet to come. Do yourself a favor, dive into this series and enjoy. Such a worthwhile ride!

Hmmm, I know Serena had a difficult past, but her constant apologies were driving me crazy. She apologised for everything!!
And let's not forget she doubted Grinder up until the end, even after the man proposed in the last chapter. 🙄

I loved the first book, but this one left me unsatisfied.

Still, a good addition to the King series. Hell, Grinder is one sexy silver fox! 😜🔥

Grinder and his Buttercup

I am voluntarily leaving this review. I absolutely love the LOKI series and I love each book in this series! I can’t chose a favorite because I just love them all! This story was well written, will have you hooked from page one and have you on the edge of your seat either in suspense or laughing.

Grinder and his Buttercup have a lot of obstacles to overcome but their love for each other is priceless. The way he is so protective over her and is gentle and not overbearing, but makes his feelings known, is perfect. The way she learns to not only trust herself and love herself, but accept his love is perfect.

I picked up a few Easter eggs that I hope I’m right about and cannot wait for the next book to see if I’m right or not. I recommend this series yo any and everyone!!! Thank you Autumn for sharing your world with us!

Throne of Scars...

Lost Kings MC book 20. A fabulous conclusion for Grinder and Serena story. Serena has some decisions to make, gets scared and run. Grinder being the alpha that he is, goes after her. They both have past issues, which just makes them all the more real. This book is hella angst and dramatic. But its also filled with love, hope and smexiness. A baby is now part of their circle. The couple must contend with their past, get a handle on their present and prepare for the future. It's great seeing the rest of the LOKI crews. Everything isn't easy or perfect but these characters make this series worth reading.

Sighhhhhh…. I’m still sitting over here swooning after Grinder and I don’t see that ending anytime soon. His future has come to place where he’s meant to be, happy.

This story covers so much and I loved all of the 117,000 words of it. Every book keeps adding on to the love that I have for the LOKI men and their Queens. Reading another installment is like checking back in with friends who you don’t see often but will always be in your life. I loved reading about Serena finding her happy and growing into a confident woman who could take the world by herself. But she has a man who will forever be in her corner to root her on and help her whenever she needs it.

I don’t know what Autumn has in store for us next but I can’t wait. It’s always an automatic buy for me.

Loved this story so much!!! Autumn you wrote another fantastic book!

I simple loved Grinders and Serenas story. I had so much loved, sweetness, Grinder showed so much love and caring for Serena. She was still so cautious of her feelings for Grinder because of her past. Grinder was so patient with her. I enjoyed all the banter between all the guys in the club. Jigsaw was so funny and we had a little more insight of Dex. I so loved this book. I'd rate it 50 stars if I could.

Yet another good read from this talented author.
Although the rest of the the series has a bit a bit more action in it, but in this one, I'm grateful the book was told the way it was after such a gut wrenching ending to the previous.
This couple has been so much both together and apart.
Will this seemingly unlikely pair (but actually perfect for each other), manage to work through their demons and find a way to have a happily ever after together?
Definitely recommend that you read to find out.

Amazing 🙌🏻

Another amazing novel by AJL. An epic end to Serena and Grinders (Grayson)‘s story.
We see such big changes to the club dynamic in this book, the ol’ ladies stick together in the rest of the series but this is the first time a non- officer has patched someone and seeing them all pull together and have Serena’s back is great 😍

I like the extra look into Serena’s friends (Emily and Libby) and seeing more of Griff and hearing more from Dex is the best 😂
Cannot wait for Dex’s book, hopefully not too far in the future.

Grayson is a sweet, quiet character that is 100% in love with Serena. Seeing all the effort he goes to to learn all the extra technology and things that have changed since he was in prison is super sweet.

100% recommend this and the whole series by AJL. Already one click pre-ordered the next one 🙌🏻 she never disappoints.
