This is a Christian/religious self-help book which is not made clear by the synopsis so just be aware if you're not Christian.

However, even without the religion, the book's chapters are uneven -- the anecdotes told in them don't always clearly match with the lesson they are supposed to portray. For example, there is a chapter where the author talks about flying out to speak at a church he had been invited to and forgetting his Bible (which would make him seem unreliable to the pastor). He manages to find a Bible sold in a bookstore at the airport but it's a small, baptismal-gift looking Bible, clearly not his own. Thankfully though while the pastor is giving him a tour of the church, the author comes across the lost and found where there is a more suitable Bible that he "finds" so that he can use it while preaching and not look inept to this new pastor. He preaches from the "found" Bible for a week and then returns it to the lost and found. The author even says "What a happy find that Bible was!". And the lesson of this whole story is...(from the book itself, literally four sentences after "What a happy find") "The first step to overcoming mistakes is to admit them. We can't get past their hold without doing this". Wait, what? The author, as far as the anecdote goes, never seems to admit that he didn't bring his Bible with him, in fact he passes off another Bible as his own and calls it a happy find so....what? Several chapters are like that, where the story told doesn't match the lesson of the chapter to the point that by the end of the book, I was just trying to focus on lessons I liked, and ignore everything else.

I won this on Goodreads giveaways. I completely forgot that this was a book with Religious affiliation and quotes. And while I am not religious at all, I feel that this would make a good impact on others who are or might need or want some type if guidance. With that being said I would have lessened the amount of dramatization I felt when the writer was telling these stories. They felt more like a work of fiction then of non-fiction. And while there maybe truth in them, I did not feel that way. Good Information is suppressed by too many stories being dramatized. So 3.5 stars.
