Lots of devotionals offer short readings for busy women. Rarely do they dive deep enough into God's Word to stick with you and make a real difference in your day, let alone your life.
Thirsty isn't like other devotionals. Rather than breeze past a snippet of Scripture and a loosely related anecdote each day, this unique devotional focuses your attention on one short passage of Scripture for an entire week, encouraging you to memorize, understand, and apply its truth to your life. After 12 weeks of these rich, deep dives into God's Word, you'll find your soul restored and your life changed.
If you long for a closer relationship with God despite your packed schedule, discover how you can drink deeply from the well of Scripture in just 20 minutes a day.
I bought Thirsty: 12 Weeks of Drinking Deeply from God's Word on a whim and I am so glad I did. I was unfamiliar with Hannah C. Hall's writing, as she had previously only written children's books.
While Thirsty is an easy read, it is also one where I learned a lot. I have been a Christian for many years and have read broadly in nonfiction. I am always thrilled when a book brings fresh insights into things I have read or learned. That is what Thirsty did for me.
Thirsty is set up to be studied for twelve weeks. Each week has a new Bible verse focus, with five days of content, and two days to ponder what you have learned. You are encouraged to memorize the verses each week.
Overall, this is a great devotional for anyone who wants to grow in their walk with Christ.
If you are busy and your spiritual life is parched, this book is for you. By investing just minutes a day, you will emerge refreshed. But don’t be deceived by the length of these daily devos. Despite the short format, these devos take you deep into God’s word. Counter to our fast, skimming culture, this book encourages a long look. Over the twelve weeks, readers reflect on just one passage per week. Each day focuses on a different aspect or angle of the week’s scripture. You will be amazed that insightful, deep understanding can be delivered in such a friendly, relatable, and welcoming voice, much like a trusted friend or older sister. Great concept and great author!
I've always been a fan of Hannah Hall's books for kids so I was VERY excited to read "Thirsty", which is for adults! I LOVE this book so much. She focuses on one verse for a whole week (12 different verses/12 weeks)--totally different from other devotionals. It a great approach and allows the reader to really focus on that passage. I can't recommend "Thirsty" enough--go get yourself a copy!
If you’re thirsty for an abundant life with Jesus but you’re short on time, this book is for you. Hall wrote this book for women in busy seasons of life who want to go deeper in their walk with Jesus, and her heart shines through these pages. The book is designed for twelve weeks of study, and each week unpacks one Scripture. This unhurried approach lets us learn how to meditate on one passage and learn to apply it to our lives. Hall’s writing is authentic and relatable, and each day’s challenge ends with reflection questions for us readers. It’s a different kind of Bible study than I have done before, but I’m finding it a refreshing supplement to my daily quiet time. Highly recommend!
A wonderful concept that goes as far as you take it. Memorize a verse a week, and spend that week with daily devotionals and journal prompts related to it.
I found myself wanting more actual time in the Bible and not enjoying the quick devotional followed by trying to sit fully with the reflection questions. I also know that sitting still with God is a personal area of growth, so it’s more a review of myself than the book to say that was a downside. My favorite week was the one that had you reading the entire surrounding story for the chosen verse, so I’m leaving this experience with 12 weeks of rhythm and an idea of how I best can connect with God going forward. Worth it for sure!
Thirsty by Hannah C. Hall was a wonderful and insightful devotional to work through the past 12 weeks.
Each week focused on a different Bible verse and each day included a commentary and thought-provoking questions.
Each day I felt like I gained new insights about the verse and how it applied to my life. Many times I walked away thinking “wow, I really needed that today.” I also appreciated that there were other scripture passages provided for greater context as well.
Overall, this was a great devotional for me. This would be one I recommend to anyone who would like to focus on one verse per week and dig deeper into it.
