There are times when I feel like pinching myself to make sure I’m not dreaming…

I enjoyed working in the corporate world for more than twenty years as a Human Resources executive, but it doesn’t compare to what I’m doing now. For the past several years I’ve been privileged to teach Bible study classes in Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) and in my church.

And I write. I write. Those two words have opened an amazing world for me as God has set my feet on a new path – a second career I never dreamed attainable.

It began 15 years ago with a short story published in Chicken Soup for the Soul. That story was the first of more than 30 stories published in anthologies, including 25 Chicken Soup for the Soul books. From there, I published articles in Christian magazines such as Today's Christian Woman, Light & Life, The Lookout, and Focus on the Family’s Clubhouse Magazine.

I’m the author of Daily Reflections on the Names of God: A Devotional (Baker/Revell). And I’m humbled to say Kay Arthur, founder of Precept Ministries, Int’l., has endorsed it.

I’ve also co-authored a children’s picture book series, Faith Basics for Kids (Standard Publishing). The first two books in the series are Do You Love Me More? and Will I See You Today?

If you’re looking for a speaker, I love to speak and teach, engaging audiences with relevant, enjoyable presentations.

Pastor and author A. W. Tozer once wrote, “What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.” It’s easy to pick one or two characteristics of God and allow those attributes to become the total of who God is. For example, some focus only on God’s characteristics of being loving and merciful. Problem is, they end up with an anything-goes god who tolerates sin. Others may focus on God’s holiness and judgment to the exclusion of all other characteristics. The god they create for themselves is a fire-and-brimstone god who is unloving, unmerciful, & uncompassionate.

God is love AND He is holy. He is merciful AND He is just. He is also righteous AND compassionate. He is all these things and more. To truly know Him, He calls us to learn ALL that He is—not just one or two characteristics appealing to who we want Him to be.

With each revelation of God’s names and attributes, it’s as if God whispers to us, “Come closer, My child. I have something new I want to tell you about Me.” The more we learn, the easier it is to trust Him and depend on Him.

This devotional on the names and attributes of God includes 3 distinct devotions for each one. The first devotion examines what God said about Himself. The second devotion explores how this particular name or attribute changes us because we belong to Him. And the third devotion in the set considers how our relationships are influenced by that name or attribute of God.

This beautiful book will make a fabulous gift.

Ava draws us deeper into our relationship with God by helping us explore who He is through His names. With each name she gives us three devotions: Look Up (to see how & why God describes Himself the way He does), Look In (how does that name apply to us), and Look Out (how it applies to relationships). She uses relatable examples and offers Scriptural reference for more study.

I love Ava's writing. It's understandable and yet thought-provoking. I highly recommend this devotional -- for yourself or as a gift.

This is a wonderful book to enrich your knowledge of who God is and what he desires for us. Each entry offers questions to aid and strengthen one's relationship with The Almighty. The book is arranged in one- page readings that explore an aspect of God, a prayer, and a probing question for reflection. The beautiful book design makes it ideal for gifting.

God has many names in the Bible, and all reveal different aspects about our Father. In Reflections on the Names of God, Ava Pennington examines sixty of them. She provides three in-depth reflections on each for a total of 180. You will come to know, understand, and appreciate God all the more after reading Ava’s devotional. It’s a great reference book for Bible teachers and leaders.
