From bestselling author Dr. Rebecca Sharp comes a brother's best friend, protector romance...

Rocco Damiani has trust issues. It’s no wonder since he was given a burn notice by the CIA. No work history, no money, no connections. No identity. Not quite the fresh start he was looking for, but at least he has a good job and loyal friends.

As Covington Security’s Systems Specialist, Roc’s clients know that their homes and businesses are safe in his hands. When the alarm is tripped at a seaside mansion in town, he goes to investigate and walks in to more than he bargained for—his teammate’s little sister.

Carina Lozano is investigating a crime. She knows certain things about certain bad guys…but without certain proof, the only thing that’s certain is that she’s in trouble. Especially when she lies to the sexy security specialist who works with her older brother.

Roc realizes there’s more to the story and wants to help. The good news? She lets him. The bad news? She's still holding something back. But it's not long before the case and their chemistry become explosive.

Roc treads carefully because with a burned identity, he’s got nothing left to lose—except his heart. And when Carina finally offers him the truth, will he be able to trust her again?

Rebecca Sharp always loved a good love story. Let's face it, when you include a romance novel on your 8th grade summer reading list just to see if the teacher would notice (she didn't!), she was bound to give writing one of her own a go. There's really no corner of romance that she doesn't (or wouldn't) enjoy writing, except maybe aliens, much to her husband's dismay, so her large catalog features a little something for everyone. However, her love of shows like NCIS and Criminal Minds makes her favorite stories to write the ones with some kind of suspense and crime solving.

When she's not writing, she's at her office treating patients, and somewhere between those two things, you'll find her wandering the globe with her husband always searching for their next adventure.

Carina was a spitfire—full of determination. Strong, brave, and perhaps, a little naive.
Rocco struggled with his loyalty to his best friend, and was still chasing answers about what happened in his past.
"He was raw instead of polished. Coarse instead of charming. He was everything that instantly tempted a woman like me to veer off her well-laid tracks."
Her innocence intrigued him.
His dedication to do the right thing frustrated her.
His reluctance to break bro-code was strong but the more he resisted the harder Carina pushed.

When they finally crossed the line it was intense. Their want for each other burned brighter than the sun.
But there were forces working against them, trying to silence the truth.
And it came from somewhere you wouldn't expect.

Buckle up ladies and gents, it's a wild, emotional and steamy journey.

This emotionally gripping novel had me hooked even before I started reading! Rocco has always been one of the guys I wanted more of! A ghost of a man trying to piece his past together to have a future definitely needed a woman who is strong and outspoken! Well he met his match with Carina!

This has got to be one of the HOTTEST books by Sharp that I have read! WOW is all I have to say because well Jacobs latter is all I will say!

I love that Rocco found his way and that he found it with a woman like Carina? She was independent, smart and had a heart of gold especially for those she loves!

If you need a book to warm you up this winter Burned is the book for you!

Burned

I really liked this book. There is happily ever after. Rocco was burned by the government for something he didn’t do. He had nothing but his friends and his job. Carina came in and made him come back to life.

The plot for Burned follows the same formula as the first three books. I guess Sharp finds something that works for her and refuses to deviate from it. Manly man with a giant penis (so giant he could split in half the person he is railing, apparently) is fighting his attraction to the feisty female character. Feisty female character finds herself in danger and manly man grunts, “I’m moving in with you/you’re moving in with me so I can protect you.” Forced proximity hijinks ensue. The sex is badly written. The blowjob scene is just ridiculous. All the male characters in this series could do with some therapy. The story and characters were just interesting enough to motivate me to finish. Maybe I should check out the author that Sharp allegedly plagiarized.

I have loved this series from the start. I had high hopes for Rocco's story because I was curious about why he was a "ghost". I loved his friendship with Dante so I figured a story with Dante's little sister would be a hit. I have to be honest, I struggled for the first 25%. It felt cheesy and contrived. Had this not been an author that I normally loved, I'm not sure that I would have continued. I'm glad I did because it got considerably better. The ending was one of my favorites from the series.

Bonus scene was Dante and the Backstreet Boys. That still makes me laugh.

Rocco is one character that I’ve been itching for more details about. So when this story landed on my kindle I was so excited. It had the intrigue, deception, suspense, and chaos that made it one heck of a read. This whole series is incredible but Rocco and Carina bring it to a whole new level. Once you start reading, you won’t stop and will be sleep deprived the next day. Loved it and I can’t wait for more.

I loved how strong the heroine is in this book. She seems naive but she is amazing, tenacious, and so loving! She is someone I would like to be.

This is a story that has lots of heat and lots of suspense and makes you wonder what happened. A love force so strong that it just can't be denied.

If you love romance and you love suspense, you won't want to miss this latest installment of a fantastic series!

The fourth book in the Covington Security series a story that once I started I was not putting down until I was finished. DNF. No one here was likable, and the writing was just bad. Mentioning the H’s piercings constantly ended up being a turn off rather than a turn on.

SPICY romantic suspense where the plot holds up!!

Burned by Dr. Rebecca Sharp
-Covington Security Book 4-

This was a SPICY, highly addictive romantic suspense story that I flew through!

4/5⭐️

•My Blurb•
After serving undercover in the CIA for years, Rocco was betrayed and had to run for his life. He is determined to find out what happened and reclaim his identity. When Carina, a forensic accountant, comes into town to help a friend and coworker, she meets Rocco and recognizes him as her brother’s best friend. Their attraction and connection is instantaneous but her brother would not approve. When Carina finds an issue with some reports she gets involved in a plot that goes deeper than she could imagine. Rocco is determined to keep her safe but his past is catching up with him as well. Carina and Rocco try to protect each other as their feeling grow and they work to solve their cases. Is it possible to have a life together and what will they find when they discover the truth?!

•My Thoughts•
I love romantic suspense and am finding myself drawn to it recently - it’s such a great blend and I’m a FAN! This book delivers on all of those things and I devoured it. I liked the characters, especially Rocco. He’s perfectly tortured, protective and possessive. Carina is fiesty, smart and realllyyy naive but it’s mostly endearing, if a little frustrating at times. I wanted a little more time with the characters connecting - we’re told about some of it but I would have loved to SEE it happening a little more. Yall, this is spicccyyyyy…like out of my comfort zone spicy (::cough:: special piercings ::cough::) BUT the plot held up to me skimming/skipping over those pages and pages and I really enjoyed it. This is book 4 in a series of interconnected standalones and while it mentioned couples from previous books, I felt like I could jump right in and enjoy this story.

Mmm, that cover! Thankfully the book was as delicious.

Covington Security’s Rocco Damiani was a covert operative working for a drug cartel when he was put on the burn notice, barely escaping death. Now with his reputation in shreds, he’s determined to find out who betrayed him.

Enter Carina Lozano, a forensic accountant who just happens to be the attractive younger sister of Rocco’s colleague who saved him.

While on vacation, she stumbles across some sketchy government contracts slipped to her by a friend … who goes missing at the same time Carina’s boss asks her to spy on Rocco.

So the tangled web becomes more sticky as Carina and Rocco give in to their steamy chemistry. Oh, and Rocco has some impressive equipment, wink wink, that he takes great pains to describe. In. Detail. Yep.

Even with the treason angle, this was an absorbing read that kept me entertained even if I had to raise my eyebrows many a time.

Good, but not great.

What I liked:
- Suspense plot. There are twists and turns that kept things interesting throughout. I enjoyed how the plot weaves together seemingly unrelated storylines between why Carina originally comes to Carmel Cove and Rocco’s past. At various points, the suspense kept me interested more than the romance in Burned.

- Carina. She is young (25) and a bit naive considering she works for the FBI. That said, Carina is no shrinking violet! Maybe she doesn’t fully know what she’s getting herself into by helping to investigate a crime or with Rocco but she went after both wholeheartedly without wavering. Unlike Rocco who can’t make up his mind chapter after chapter. She stood up to Rocco, and her brother, and wasn’t afraid to do what was right.

What I didn’t like:
- Rocco. He’s 37…more than a decade older than Carina. In addition to the hot/cold wavering back and forth with Carina, Rocco is more preoccupied with his larger than average pierced c**k more than any teenage boy. Every time Carina steps into the room, he’s hard as a rock and thinking about tearing her apart with his pierced ‘monster’. Repeatedly we are reminded about the size of his d*** all the way til the end. FTR I don’t have any issue with big or pierced c**ks in romance. It’s that this one is practically another character in the book for how many times it’s mentioned.

- Sex scenes. I never thought I’d say this but here they were not sexy at all for me. It bordered on too much description. I think because the details are so centered around the size of Rocco’s d*** and less about feelings between the protagonists. Something I rarely do is skim sex scenes, yet here I was eye rolling and skipping to get to the end.

- Brother’s best friend/little sister trope. Rocco is hesitant to ‘go there’ with Carina, more because of how her brother Dante will feel about it and how it’ll affect his friendship with Dante than his own personal reasons, which in imo are way more serious. His past and what it’d mean for a future with Carina are discussed but it felt too much like an afterthought. Dante’s opinion about their relationship weighs heavily on Rocco even after he’s allowed himself to finally be completely intimate with Carina. [insert massive eye roll] Carina is an adult, not a child. Is she never supposed to have sex or fall in love because her older brother can’t see that she’s grown up?!?! Also, it never seemed as if Rocco was a man whore callously running through women. If you respect your best friend and know he’s not a bad guy, then why all the “don’t touch my sister” theatrics?? Because an older brother/father figure being overly preoccupied with his sister’s sexual habits is just some patriarchal bulls***t and plain gross!!

- Speaking of little girl. Rocco calls Carina ‘ragazzina” (ie little girl in Italian) which at first I get. Rocco is fighting with his feelings that Carina is too young, too innocent and his best friend’s ‘little’ sister. It’s demeaning but it’s meant to be a reminder that Carina is off limits. Eventually — after Rocco gives in to both their desires, it becomes his pet name for Carina and he says it at every turn. He wants to f*** her brains out yet he’s calling her ‘little girl’?! The word he called her to remind himself why he shouldn’t be with her. Huh? Make it make sense.

Overall, I had trouble seeing how the love develops between Carina and Rocco. The lust was very clear and descriptive, but how they get to ILY seemed to happen off page. I wasn’t sure of the timing of them living together (Rocco deemed that Carina needs 24/7 protection)…was it a few weeks or 2-3 months, I couldn’t say.

This was my first book by this author and the first of this series I’ve read. Not sure I’ll read the others in the series that came before but I am intrigued by the next book with Jackson and Isla, who we met in Burned.

fitting title

Good story.

The book title is accurate in several ways. The characters have insta chemistry, but there is a buildup to them acting on it. There is two cases at hand, though Jacksons burglary case is briefly mentioned. As with the rest of the series the whole team has some face time. Great blend of emotion, romance, action and family. The villain and connection was fairly obvious early on, but the buildup to the HEA was fun. Several new characters were focused on and other community or k characters had more time and I hope they get stories. I was intrigued by Isla and Stevie and think they would fit in with the other women wonderfully. Also, Jackson, Roman, the ME, and the brother…I want more!

The ending closed all the threads and brought out the smiles for another sweet couple.

Rocco Damiani is a ghost, ever since his undercover op went so wrong and he was betrayed. His entire existence was burned and now he works with Ace, Dex and Dante at Covington Security to get his life back. As the Security Specialist, he responds to a security breach and finds a young woman, Carina Lozano, who explains that she's FBI and working on a case with the owner of the house. Rocco can't believe it when he realizes that Carina is his friend Dante Lozano's sister, off limits, and immediately taps down the possibility of any feelings he might develop for her. Carina is feisty enough to try to tear down his walls and show him what she has to offer, but Rocco won't allow it and tries everything to stay away, even becoming rude and spiteful. He'll never be worthy of her, even if he falls for her, because he doesn't even have an identity to offer her. Carina and Rocco dance around each other with Carina trying her hardest to entice him and convince him that he is a worthy man. When Carina's boss, in the FBI, calls and asks her to go undercover to ferret out the traitor in their midst, she tells herself that she can't do it because she can't betray him. Carina shows a little too much naivete when she offers information to her boss too readily, but it's necessary for the story. When the real traitor is uncovered, all of the answers fall into place. Carmel Cove is a wonderful, beautiful location filled with fascinating residents who are the very foundation of the Covington Security series. Burned is the 4th book in this series and it's a fabulous read by Dr. Rebecca Sharp.

This was my 1st read by this author, but it won’t be my last. It was suspenseful and sexy, and I loved the characters. I did jump in mid series, so I was a little confused by all the names of the Covington men, but that in no way took away from the story. Any backstory about them was not relevant to Carina and Rocco’s story. I’m going to work backward and go to the series opener since I enjoyed this one so much.

Rocco and Carina

Since this is the 4th book in the series, if you’ve read the first 3 books, you know a little of Rocco’s story. He’s been burned by the CIA and barely made it out of South America alive with the help of Dante, Ace and Dex. But this book really dove into his life. Because he thinks he has nothing to offer, he has kept himself from having any relationships, but that all changes when he finds Carina, his best friend’s sister in a client’s house with the alarm going off. He tries to deny his feelings and push Carina away, but Carina meets him at every pass with reasoning and understanding.

When Carina’s friend disappears, Rocco thinks it’s related to the case she had Carina look into and takes it upon himself to protect her. However, Carina is protecting Rocco on a much deeper level. The Covington Security team races to prove Rocco’s innocence and keep Carina safe.

Rocco and Carina

A burned spy and an FBI money chaser meet in her friends house. He thinks she is a thief, a hot thief, but a thief nonetheless. He finds out she is Dante's sister and should be avoided, like that works. Carina gets pressure from her boss to figure out if Rocco is guilty of what he is accused of. Add to that her friend suspects fraud in a government contract and asks Carina to look into that. A lot going on and so worth it.

So many twists and turns

Whew. That was quite a ride. This is Rocco and Carina’s story, and it was filled with suspense and so many twists and turns. This is book number four in the Covington security series, but can be read as a standalone. Carina works for the FBI as a forensic accountant, and Rocco works with her brother at Covington Security. He was previously CIA deep undercover in South America, but was betrayed and left for dead, then given a burn notice by the CIA. He’s basically a man with no identity in hiding. He first meets Carina when she accidentally set off the security alarm at a friends house she was staying at. I will say the first 20% of the book was sort of a challenge. It was almost a bit cheesy, and I didn’t connect with the characters. Carina is a 25 year old genius that graduated early and was hired by the FBI fresh after graduating with her masters. She’s also a virgin, but has this weird mix of innocent and assertive. The first time Rocco meets her she is holding her vibrator, yet later says she’s never felt any sexual interest or curiosity until him. Sometimes it was distracting. Honestly I wished she’d not been written as the naive virgin, maybe just somewhat inexperienced. It seems to such a big part of the story, when it did not need to be. Be prepared for multiple pages of him slooooowly taking her virginity an inch at a time with his mammoth sized pierced c0ck. Very very drawn out. After that 20% or so, I was sucked in. Things were really moving and they really grew on me. She was asked by her friend in the DOD to look over some files to confirm what she suspected. What ensues becomes a tangled web of lies and deceit, spanning the FBI, CIA, DOD, and the cartel. I loved seeing her stand up for herself, when she was so naive at times. I loved seeing him come back to life, and getting schooled by her when she put him in his place. They made a great couple when they got it together. And the cast of characters around them were great too. After a wild bumpy ride, the tangled web is unraveled, and they get their HEA.

Gave up at 58%- that's how bad it was, I couldn't finish it, even though I was curious to see who the bad guy was. Contains spoilers.

I don't know why this has such high reviews- Rocco is one of the most overbearing, possessive cavemen I've ever read. I like an alpha male as much as the next person, but Rocco was so obnoxious that I don't understand how anyone would be attracted to that. He calls the female MC little girl (in his head as a term of endearment), but he treats her like a little kid even though she's 25! Tells her either she needs to call her brother to tell him where she is, or he'll have to watch her.
Won't let her leave the house, when she does, he tracks her and makes her get a ride with him. She's such a pushover- like I said, she's 25, and even though she grew up in an Italian household, that's not an excuse to be a doormat. The Italian thing bothered me too because I have tons of Italian friends (both born and raised in Italy and Italian Americans) and none of them act domineering like Rocco. Also, Italian talk- only swears and terms of endearment even though both these characters are born and raised Americans who were not raised speaking Italian.

Then there's the sex scenes- major cringe! "The only one who gets to choke you is me." This is Rocco talking to the MC the first time they have sex. She's a virgin! How does she know if she's going to like rough sex??? She's a virgin, but she's ok with taking this guy who apparently is hung like a horse with NINE penis piercings and enjoys it??? Yeah, sure...

I also couldn't keep count of how many times the author used the word 'seam.' The seam of her lips, the seam between her breasts, the seam in her 'pu&%y, it just went on and on. Major cringe!

I'm just mad at myself for having read as far as I did, what a waste of time!

Going out in a blaze

Or maybe a scorching inferno. HE is deemed guilty and is wanted- by the government and by her (mostly by her).
These two are super steamy. Their attraction is scalding and she likes to push every one of his buttons. Definitely could be triggering for some. He has different.....tastes and desired that cross a couple boundaries. It's hawt.

Burned is seriously a special read. For the first half, it is mostly a slow burn at a fast pace. These characters take their time to really connect fully. The heat and chemistry is there from the start but for good reasons, mostly Rocco holds off. Lusting after your best friend/ the man who saved your life’s little sister is a tough pill to swallow and he hold firm for as long as he could. I loved the slow burn, the anticipation building up, chapter after chapter until they both explode. At the halfway mark it is all downhill. IN THE BEST WAY! Like a roller coaster, free fall into the HOTEST scenes I’ve read in a while. That mixed with danger and mystery, I was on the edge of seat, flipping the pages faster and faster. I could not wait to see what came next.
Part of why I come back over and over to read this authors work is because she understands how to write an addictive story full of well-rounded characters. I love nothing more than a hot, protective alpha who falls for a head strong independent woman. Rocco and Carina are perfect to read, from start to finish I love seeing their relationship grow. Highly recommend picking this story up and fall back into the world of Carmel Cove and visit the men of Covington Security.

Who doesn't love a monthly dose of a good brother's best friend romance? 😍

Hero - Rocco

Heroine - Carina

4 Burned Stars

Overall Opinion

Burned By Rebecca Sharp

The first chapter was freaken hilarious!!!! Absolutely unique first meeting between the H and h😂😂

Rocco's book was certainly the most anticipated one, after getting to know bits and pieces about him and his life from the previous books. And finally we get to know the details that went down during his time undercover.

Carina was one strong heroine. Loved her determination for her work but also her need to know the truth.

Loved the intense chemistry Rocco and Carina had.

The missing star is mostly due to the fact that it was a bit drawn out. And Carina should have been more honest with Rocco. She wanted honesty from him. But she didn't give it to him in the end. It most certainly was a betrayal.

IMO know one thought about it from Rocco's point of view. Especially given everything that happened to him.

Secondary Characters

Loved to catch up with the rest of Covington security💜

Wow, well this wasn’t what i expected. Perhaps I missed the clues in the earlier books, maybe I just didn’t read the signs but Rocco is more than….well just MORE!!

He is totally my new favourite and I have to say I’ve stuck to Ace through all the series so far!!!!

So having read Bribed you would have already met Carina and also understood how heavy the big brother vibes are coming of Dante are!!! He takes it so seriously! (If you haven’t read bribed then a) where were you and b) it doesn’t matter but you are missing a treat!!)

So it’s a best friend / sister trope and relies heavily on this somewhat, but given how strong both characters are and the underlying suspense/drama storyline it’s not JUST about this.

I didn’t think I’d love the Carina secret thing, in fact it made me wince when it started but actually despite this I still really liked this book and thought that part of the story was well written. Often when secrets like that are in a book I don’t feel like they are properly dealt with and I find it hard to see how characters move on from perceived lies, not in this case though

Looking Forward to Jackson’s story

I read this book as an ARC and I did enjoy it.
It's a best friend’s sister romance with Rocco and Carina, Rocco was an undercover agent who was burned by the government. He was beaten and left for dead, with only his friends from Covington Security who get him back to the states and nurse him back to health. But this has left him a ghost, with no identification, he's been erased. He wants his life back and is working hard to find out who has done this to him as he cannot forget or feel he can move forward with his life.

Carina is staying at her friends parents mansion to help her friend checking an irregularity under the guise she is on holiday. She meets Rocco when she trips the alarm at her friends house and Rocco does not quite believe her story and thinks she is up to something and decides to keep a close eye on her. Rocco wants to know her story, he knows she’s up to something.

Once Rocco finds out she’s his best friends sister he tries to stay away but their meeting has left him a little shell shocked (you have to read to know what I mean!) A good read that I do recommend.

How do you start over when your existence is stripped from you? Rocco is lucky to have great friends in Dante, Dex and Ace that were able to rescue him and give him purpose after his life as a CIA spy is burned. Working at the security firm allows Rocco to find a new place while they try to figure out who betrayed him. When he had to respond to one of the mansions alarms, he never expects to meet Carina, Dante’s sister, and be blown away by this amazing woman. Carina is passionate about forensics accounting and is helping her friend Nina. Setting off the alarm wasn’t in her plan but getting to meet Rocco is a game changer. Of course, Rocco is an impenetrable wall but she is determined to break through his barriers. Their chemistry is exciting and intense which made it hard for Rocco to stay away from Carina. When Carina is tasked to spy on Rocco, it ramps up the drama as she works to do her job while Rocco is trying to figure out who turned on him. With all this, we get to spend time with the Covington Security family of characters and check in on what everyone is doing. I got swept up into this couple’s journey.
