The Iron Fey: Call of the Forgotten #3

The Iron Warrior Special Edition

Rate this book
The Iron Prince—my nephew—betrayed us all. He killed me. Then, I woke up.

Waking after a month on the brink of death, Ethan Chase is stunned to learn that the Veil that conceals the fey from human sight was temporarily torn away. Although humankind's glimpse of the world of Faery lasted just a brief moment, the human world was cast into chaos, and the emotion and glamour produced by fear and wonder has renewed the tremendous power of the Forgotten Queen. Now she is at the forefront of an uprising against the courts of Faery—a reckoning that will have cataclysmic effects on the Nevernever.

Leading the Lady’s Forgotten Army is Keirran Ethan’s nephew, and the traitor son of the Iron Queen, Meghan Chase. To stop Keirran, Ethan must disobey his sister once again as he and his girlfriend, Kenzie, search for answers long forgotten.

IS THAT A BLURB I SEE THERE

AND A NEW TITLE (OFFICIAL???)

AND, DARE I DREAM, AN ACTUAL PUBLICATION DATE??

THAT CAN ONLY MEAN ONE THING...MORE ASH. AND MORE ASH. OH, AND MORE ASH. DID I MENTION MORE ASH?

BTW HAVE YOU GUYS NOTICED THAT IT'S BEEN OVER A YEAR THAT I'VE BEEN RANTING?? DOES IT MATTER? MY PRAYERS HAVE FINALLY BEEN HEARD. HALLE-FUCKING-LUJAH.

P.S

09/26/2014

What is this, rant # 4? 5?

I don't know

Anyway, I guess the book's official name is The Forgotten Crown

Kewl.

I already have, like, tons of expectations for this book. Some of which I have already listed previously *cough* Ash and Meghan *cough*

But you know what I would REALLY love to see, above everything else?

Meghan beating the shit out the Forgotten Queen/The Lady. Everyone's talking about Ash beating his ingrate little son to a pulp...but I really want Meghan to go all:

Heh. Heh heh.

03/25/2014

Hold on for just one fucking second...

What the hell?

Title To Come?

Oh, Julie. You're killing me here. I'm going to lose it.

Oh wait. Too late.

01/29/2014

Whoa, am I seeing this right? The name of this book is The Traitor Son? Fine by me, but there better be a whole lot more of Ash and Meghan in this one. It would make fucking sense, anyway. No sense in naming this The Traitor Son if Ethan and Kenzie take up the whole fucking story (I know, I know, this is a spin-off, and its about THEM)

But no.

I refuse to accept it.

I still worship Ash and Meghan. Till the end of time.

The next time I rant, it'll probably be when there's a cover, or description, or a fuckin' name or SOMETHING

Okay, I need something here. Maybe I'm just in a bad mood, and I see that this book is till UNTITLED and NO DESCRIPTION WHATSOEVER and all of a sudden I go from wanting to do this to those unfortunate souls who dare cross my path:

To this:

Yupp. I feel like Kagawa has left me in the rain, all alone...and abandoned

*Wipes forehead*

Anyway, I'm onto you Ms. Kagawa. I know if all this suspense and cliffhanger torture is all bottled up inside me, it's cause you're gonna deliver one hell of a book #3. And I know I have to trust you to satisfy my demanding needs (I am very high maintenance). Whenever I question your methods, I know you're like "Chill, Karen. I got this. I. Got. This."

So I'll just sit back, and relish in your awesomeness.

Peace. Be back later, for more ranting.

~~

My reaction to The Iron Traitor cliffhanger

I REALLY NEED THIS BOOK!!!!

And that Keirran is gonna get it it. Big. Time.

But in the mean time, I guess I'll just....wait....

I'm so happy with this whole series! From the first 4 books and the continuation in the last 3 books! ❤️

This book was so good! I mean there was a war and some peeps died and stuff you know. BUT, overall it went back to being wonderful and I teared up a little.

It really was a happy ever after for almost everyone.

If you have been meaning to read these books I would recommend them. I wasn't sure I would like them since I have had them so long and my thoughts change about books - But nope, I loved them all.

Did they make me mad at times, yes. I mean most books do because someone does something stupid. Kinda like movies too, but I digress.

Either way, I'm happy and that's all that matters ♥

"This is a war, Ethan Chase. And you are not like your sister. You do not commend the power of Summer and Iron. You do not have the son of Mab and the infamous Robin Goodfellow at your side. You are a mere mortal with no power of your own, a girl who is dying and a gremlin. How do you expect to make things right, Ethan Chase? How do you expect to stand against the Forgotten and their queen?"

I was a little startled when I saw the page count was 330 pages. The Iron Knight was like 400+ pages. Finales tend to be longer since there are threads to tie up, last-minute character development to mature, plot lines to wrap up and stuff.

The Iron Warrior could have definitely benefited from a little padding. The plot felt rushed. Thing A happens, then they have to immediately rush off to do Thing B. There's a big difference between fast-paced and rocket speed. It's too linear, with none of the complex brilliancy the original series boasted.

What few pages there are amazing as expected. Puck showed up and, honestly, the boy is worth a whole star on his own.

Ethan shines as a character in his own right, though I do think he forgave Ash a tad too quickly. See, this is where padding comes in handy.

Him waking up after Kerrain wasn't unexpected (like how else would the series go on?), and I appreciate Kagawa sneaking in the magical object that saved his life early on in The Iron Traitor, so it doesn't feel like a deux ex machina. Stephen King, god of writers, mentioned that in The Dark Tower series and it holds true: if you're going to pull a deux ex machina, slip it in early, so it looks like foreshadowing, not cheating.

The biggest surprise was Kenzie. I hadn't felt anything special for her in the previous two books. She was just this overly perky Meghan clone. But she really holds her ground here, coming up with clever solutions I would have never thought—or Ethan for that matter.

She can't fight, can't use glamor, so she uses her brain.

"Cheap costume jewelry now or firstborn child in a few years? Yeah, they always go for the shiny."

I don't know if this event counts as a spoiler because it's so blatantly obvious for long-time Kagawa fans, but I'm tagging it anyway:

Talking of deux ex machina, I'm really glad

The ending was perfect. Happy, sweet, but not Hallmark.

Then the epilogue smacks me in the feels. Dammit, Kagawa, you couldn't have written one more scene? I swear she loves seeing us squirm.

But I wouldn't have it any other way.

I hope, dear God, that Keirran will have an epic character development on the 3rd book because holy freaking cow, that boy....

That stupid, selfish, reckless sunnavamuthafuckinbeetz. The only reason why I'm giving him a chance of redemption is because he's still so young, and young people do stupid things.

But goodness, his stupidity caused a war AND FUCKING MURDER.

P.S.

Also, if Julie Kagawa doesn't revive Ethan, I will go shitbricks.

After Reading:

SPOILERS AHEAD KTNXBAI

Okkk! I must admit, I'm actually pretty happy with this one. It felt like the pacing of the plot and action was back on track, and the character development was decent enough.

My most favorite part though, was all the Ash, Puck, and Meghan appearances. Like. Yeah. Consider my fangirling heart quite ~happy~

The only part I didn't like was... Keirran. Again. Like, what the fuck??? After all the mess he made, the punishment he got was BECOMING A KING???

I mean, yeah. The poor boy's puppy love died because of him and he really did seem sorry. But... gaaaaah. This boy is just too spoiled for his own good. His royal ass was saved once again like asdfghjkl ok I'm shutting up now.

Other than that, yeah. This book was a pretty good finale for the Forgotten series. :)

So the day has finally come. The day I finished the last book of my favorite series... I will miss my faeries... :(

Hanging with Ethan, Kenzie and Keirran was an amazing experience and I would do it all over again if I could.

This world, that Julie Kagawa created, is my favorite world of all the fictional ones, and while other bookworms are waiting for their letter from Hogwarts, I am waiting for a faerie creature to come and take me to NeverNever. I could be a slave to faeries, I don't mind! I could sing to them. I even know how to play harmonica.

description

In this series, not only did I find my not-anymore-new book boyfriend, but my favorite OTP.
Ethan and Kenzie are just amazing together and I really like their chemistry.

description

This book had a lot of action and it was a quick read.
Some situations brought meto tears, some made me emotional and swoon, but all in all, I was happy how it all wrapped up in the end.
I knew I was saying goodbye to the characters, which made me want to read it really, really slowly, just so I could spend as much time with them as I could.

description

Although this is not the best book in the series (The Lost Prince is, in my opinion) I still enjoyed it so much.

If you haven't read this series yet, I strongly suggest you to do so. You won't regret, I promise!

Second book:
Things went from poop to sh!t to sh!t hole.
Just when you thought things couldn't get any worse, Kagawa goes, "Oh yeah, well, take this!" and throws in another plot twist.

My overall reaction while reading The Iron Traitor:
description

Anyway, I'll be reading third book of The Blood of Eden (The Forever Song) while waiting for this book! Ethan and Kierran will be placed on hold while I read about Allison + Zeke <3

SPOILER ALERT: ETHAN LIVES!

POSSIBLE TITLES:
The Risen One (Ethan dies, then lives)
The Awakened Fey (I just thought it sounds cool)
The Chosen One (CLICHE, BUT POSSIBLE)
The Forgotten Queen (Just describing the "lady")

POSSIBLE COVER CHARACTERS:
Ethan + Kierran; none of her books have ever had dual character covers, but maybe this will be a first?
The lady (too bad she's not a main character)
Kenzie? (she'll probably look really dead on the cover though...)
How 'bout Puck? (I still think he should have got a cover in the pre-series). Maybe he'll be important enough in this series to have a cover.
GURO. HAHA.

POSSIBLE PLOT LINES:
1) Guys, I have this weird feeling Kenzie is going to die. The author NEEDS to contrast between Ethan and Kierran's way of dealing with losing their loved ones.
2) ETHAN LIVES (please don't pull an Allegiant on us...)

“Had that been Meghan and her knights, come to save me?"

This was a really good end to the series, and I enjoyed it.

I liked Ethan in this book and I was so glad that he was okay after the events at the end of book 2! That cliff-hanger was a bit of a killer, but I was glad that things worked out okay. Ethan really held it together well in this book, and really pulled things off that seemed pretty darn impossible, and I also liked the way he tried to protect Kensie, no matter what.

“Let this be made known to all – Keirran is now the enemy of Mag Tuiredh, the Iron Court and the Nevernever.”

The storyline in this was pretty good, and I liked the way things came together. I liked the action and the tension, and the little touch of romance was pretty good too.

“Not only was the amulet draining Keirran’s strength and magic, it was also…” I hesitated. Ash was going to hate me after this.
“What?” Ash prodded gently. I swallowed.
“Stealing his soul.”

The ending to this was good, and I was happy with the way things worked out, even though the ending was left fairly open.

7.5 out of 10.

Review: 1/2/2016
New year, new book finished.

Now having a two years hiatus from the iron fey (yeah, you read that right. TWO years away from this series!) I have come back. So, I picked this up without rereading any of the previous books to refresh my mind because to an extent the authors write their books in a way that it hints at past events to jog your memories so I let Ms Kagawa do it and what I forgot, oh well. This is a tale of the Forgotten so I think I'm granted some leeway in my forgetting mind.

Okay stop reading now if you haven't finished this book since it will be spoilery if you click on the link:

Yeah, now that I basically outlined the plot of the book I do want to state that it was a nice ending to the series and we got to see old favorites. double like.

(guess it was worth two years waiting for that good ending)

Original: 2/4/2014

the third book is called The Forgotten Crown

Di-did I just see that the third book finally has a title now???

Spoilers for the Iron Traitor in this review

Suprise! Ethan lives after being stabbed by that brat, Keirran. He wakes up to a world in chaos after the veil disappears, so naturally Ethan rushes in to save the day.

Alright, let's get onto the good stuff. I have read several books about feys in the last few years and nothing comes close to Julie Kagawa's NeverNever. Stepping back into NeverNever reminded me how much I missed the snarl and tangle of the Wyldwood, the steampunky streets of Mag Tuiredh, the eternal summer of Arcadia and the frosty darkness of Tir Na Nog. It was also fantastic to see the original trio - Meghan, Ash and Puck - back in action, along with all the characters from the original Iron Fey series. Grimalkin, Leanansidhe and even Wolf make an appearance in this finale, and I tell ya, it's one hell of a reunion.

Now onto the not so good stuff. Poor Ethan, he can never live up to his big sister, not in achievement and certainly not in POV. He's always sounded flat and whiney to me so I never quite warmed up to him just like I did Meghan, but his point of view is well written enough. This was a solid four star read for up until the last twenty percent or so. The ending felt rushed and made Keirran's already questionable motives unconvincing. Ultimately, the ending was underwhelming.

As a fan of the series though, I just enjoyed being in NeverNever even just for a short time. The Iron Fey is my first favorite YA series,so the parting is bittersweet. 3.5 stars.

The very last Iron Fey book. Never again will I return to this magical world. No more faeries, no more talking cats and to just stick the knife right into my heart- no more Ashallyn’ darkmyr Tallyn. Is everybody just a little bit depressed, everybody with me? Great, now onto the review!

So after the literally ‘killer’ ending of The Lost Prince we find out that Ethan is in fact not dead whew, the Veil between humans and faeries was temporarily lifted during Ethan’s ‘death’, The Dark Muse/The Lady is now more powerful than ever and is ready to wage war against the Seelie, Unseelie and Iron Courts to reclaim the Nevenever and become the one true Queen, and lastly, that Kierran my sweet little Kierran is now a complete and utter lunatic who has lost his soul and is now the champion of the Forgotten and leading this whole damn thing.

Ethan must travel through the Nevernever, the Between and the Dark Wyld in order to try and save the world of faerie. In a wicked twist of fate Ethan discovers that he must destroy the amulet his Guro made for Kierran, in order for Annwyl to avoid the Fade. The amulet is now eating at Kierran’s soul and the longer he is without it, the more likely that his new darker, merciless side is going to be permanent. However the amulet is not easily destroyed and the process might well be impossible, also can anyone really destroy the amulet knowing that Annwyl's life will end without it?

I absolutely loved coming back to the Nevernever and being reunited with some of my favourite characters from the first series. The plot as always was well paced and filled with action, adventure and plot twists that you never see coming, Kagawa doesn’t pull any punches with this last book, sacrifices must be made, bargains are made and lives are lost.

The Iron Warrior was a strong final book and I was so sad to see it end. For me there was far too little Ash & Puck but this wasn't their story and to be honest there could be a whole book dedicated to them and I would still say the same, the characters from the original series will always be my favourite and it’s going to be so hard to let them go. Although I do think it’s only right and long overdue that Puck has a series of his own, surely? His short scenes and one liners just make the book for me! Also Ash will continue to be the love of my life <3 *sigh*

The only issue I has with this book was the fate of a certain character, I was absolutely devastated. I felt like there was going to be another plot twist or some faery loop hole and things would change but alas they didn’t although I do understand that it was needed but still my poor, lonely character. This ultimately affected my feelings on the ending, which was great, but it was left a little to open-ended for me so the faery door is now stuck ajar and will forever plague me with many, many questions!

Overall this was a fantastic ending to one of my favourite series and although I’m sad to see it go, I will forever return for re-reads, talk about it with my fellow bloggers (Hi Erika, let's cry together later) and will always compare book boyfriends to swoon-worthy Ash. Well done Kagawa but just know I am waiting for Puck’s story-- always.

I am reading you for the probable fifteen pages of Puck.

Update 10/4/16:

It is with a bittersweet feeling that I have finished the last book in the Iron Fey series. Farewell to the magnificent world built upon lore and Kagawa's originality; goodbye to Robin Goodfellow. (Spoiler: Shakespeare's rendition of him is not as hot as Kagawa's. I mean, unless you get turned on by donkeys.)

Compared to the previous books in the series, it was easier to appreciate Ethan and Kenzie for their realistic teenage factor. Their relationship is anything but stifling and even endearing because of its modern flair. Kagawa never loses grasp of the real world but retains the fantasy of the Nevernever with these two wonderful mortals. They swear, they kiss, and they are normal but not in a humdrum fashion.

If you have not read the series, it is impossible to explain the fascinating characterization that goes one with rulers of this ethereal world and the mythical creatures within it. Because they are derivative of humans' imaginations but also immortal, they are characterized unlike anything you will ever read. I enjoy reading about settings and characters which have strong backbones but also with original and indirect experiences. It is a surefire way to have a factual story, one which can appeal to people's common similarities and their unattainable dreams.

These characters are symbolized in the territories of Summer, Winter, Iron; the Between, and the Forgotten. They all have selfish motives accentuated through the extremities of good fiction. Their radical tendencies wrap themes around a common theme too often neglected in literature: a son going against his parents and not comprehending the repercussions. A teenager making a mistake, albeit on a grander scale.

To use a metaphor of the concepts in this book reminds me of a chorus song that we always sing: "Africa." Yes, this is the "Africa" by Toto with the beautiful harmonies and majestic theme of homeland over love. It is so uplifting and honest and a song we are actually capable of doing, so we always recycle it. (Our chorus recycles basically everything, but this song we have for going on 4 years. That's almost as long as I've been on Goodreads.)

The concepts of this book, including its family-oriented themes concealed through romance and folklore, are all recycled from the beginning stories of the series. The writing style and characters are good but rehashed into another plot scenario. It could have been more original, but why change it when it is not hindering on anything but fans who cannot let go? It will never be like reading the first books again, but it is better than nothing.

Overall, I was very pleased. I hope that you braced yourself.

Updated November 7, 2015:
The Iron Warrior is gripping, emotional, shocking and amazing. Ethan wakes up after nearly being killed by Keirran and learns that the Forgotten Queen has gotten stronger thanks to the Veil being temporary broken that has allowed the humans to see the world of Faery. Now the fully powered Forgotten Queen is on her way with her army to destroy the Faery Courts with Keirran leading the way. To stop the Forgotten Queen and save Kierran and Faery, Ethan, Kenzie and his friends go in search for answers and learn the truth about the Forgotten Queen’s origin. Ethan is forced to accept his enemies as allies in a war that will change the World of Fey forever. The Iron Warrior is filled with shock, kissy-kissy moments, heartbreaking scenes, action, and the most perfect ending to a series I have ever read. OMG, I loved it.

After a month of recovering after being struck down by his nephew Keirran, Ethan wakes up to learn that humans have gotten a glimpse of the Faery world. As a result the Forgotten Queen has regained her power and is marching towards the Courts with her army with Keirran leading the way. Ethan joins Meghan and Ash at the war counsel alongside Summer and Winter to decide on what to do about the Forgotten and Keirran, only to learn the Forgotten Queen’s demands; become Faery’s sole ruler or else war. Determined to save Kierran, Ethan and Kenzie go in search of a way to save his soul and undo what was done to him but they need Annwyl. However, the Forgotten continue to hunt them down to keep them from stopping the Forgotten Queen’s plan.

Ethan is forced to form alliances with those he once thought to be his enemy. They also team up with old allies in the search of Annwyl which leads them to the deepest part of Faery. The group learns who the Forgotten Queen really is and what would happen if she wins the war. Ethan and group discover that Annwyl is on a quest of her own to save Kierran and joins Ethan. As the war begins and sides are taken, Ethan, Kenzie and Annwyl are willing to do whatever it takes to save Kierran, stop the Forgotten Queen and the war in order to save all of Faery.

Ethan is angry with Kierran for his betrayal and with himself for allowing what happened to Kierran to go so far. I really like Kenzie, she is fierce, witty, cool and I love that she won’t let anything stop her. Razor is beyond adorable. Annwyl surprised me. Kierran was less in the book and he scared me a bit in the scenes that he was. It was great to all the past characters from the Iron Fey series, Meghan, Ash, Puck and Grim but also a few others. Meghan remains a great character, even as a minor character. Ash and Puck are still great, love them. Grim, no change in my love of this all knowing and yet annoying feline.

Overall, The Iron Warrior was amazing. I loved it. It was the perfect ending to an enchanting series. I loved this series and I’m sad that it’s over. My emotions were all over the place with this book, the plot, the characters, and the ending. Julie Kagawa is an amazing writer and The Iron Fey series will forever be one my top favorite series.

Final rating: 3.5/5 stars

“I thought you didn’t believe in fate or destiny.”
“I don’t.” Kenzie shrugged. “There’s always a choice, Ethan, even if between running away and facing the thing that scares us head-on. Even if all paths lead to the same place.” She paused a moment, staring up into the canopy, her voice going soft. “How we get there, and what we do on the way, that’s always up to us.”

Since this is a conclusion of a series I have been reading for years, I will write only a short review. There is just no need to go into details.

I loved first two books, The Lost Prince & The Iron Traitor even more than the first four books of the main series. I did not read this one without having reread the first two books - I needed a reminder of who was who and so I have read most of the scenes so my experience for the final book be as good as possible.

I am so sad it ended. But I am also glad. I expected 4 books like Iron Fey series had, but I'm glad it ended here.

Not sure how much I loved the ending and the conclusion of it. For some reason, I expected more and better conclusion. I am not satisfied with this conclusion, which I will write about why in the spoiler section of this review.

Also, sometimes it was just boring and sometimes it felt like reading filler episodes - for example, carnival chapter. No point there at all, but it was kinda amusing.

As for the characters, no one drastically changed, except, maybe Ethan, and I kinda liked the change. Kenzie, however, remained the same ball of craziness, humor, optimism and fun, and Keirran will really piss everyone off because, well, it's Keirran.

I am really enjoying how strong Meghan became. And once again, I found myself disliking Ash - I guess that will never change after The Iron Knight. I still can't understand why they ended up together. I wish she ended up with Puck, but oh well. Ash was always more popular, but his book ruined him in my eyes. I wish I could destroy it from my memory. Oh, also! This book particularly is very related to that one. And then Puck - sweet Puck - I love him so damn much. And Thin Man, Grimalkin, the Wolf, Razor - also great.

Spoiler section of the review because of why I am disappointed - SERIOUS SPOILERS:

► OVERALL:

Not as strong conclusion as I wished to read, but also well done. Not captivating as I wanted it to be, but somewhat interesting. It definitely felt much weaker than the first two parts of the book. I guess there is just something in author's writing style. I usually end up disappointed with her last books in the series. She has awesome stories but I only wish to read one day a story by her with a strong conclusion.

OTHER IMPORTANT INFO:
Standalone: No. Part of a series. But the last book in the series.
Point of View: First POV, 1 character.
Cliffhanger: No.
Triggers: Nothing worth mentioning.
Love triangle: No.
Angst: Yes.
Supernatural: Yes.
Explicit content: No.

Spoilers

-Wasn't entertained by the story much, it mostly consisted of drawn out action scenes and Ethan/Kenzie searching for various people and going from place A to B to C, it just wasn't interesting.

-Enjoyed the world and some of the secondary characters, they kept the book from being 1 star instead of 2.

-Still didn't like Ethan all that much, he was a lot better than he was in the first two books though. His bitterness and self-pity was still there but to a lesser degree. It didn't help when he kept acting so self righteous and wronged by everyone else's actions, he needed to get over his resentment, which admittedly he reluctantly did by the end.

-Kierran surviving at the end was disappointing, he really deserved to die, he was responsible for loads of pain and death but he got away with it all. Him being exiled and feeling guilty and remorseful wasn't good enough, especially when he was rewarded with a whole kingdom and title - that was hardly punishment.

-I was annoyed at Annwyl dying and sacrificing herself all so she could save undeserving Kierran, it was just like Arielle sacrificing herself for unworthy Ash. Neither Kierran or Ash deserved anyone sacrificing themselves for them.

-How did Ethan's blood tie him to all three courts?! He was only related through half-sister Meghan, he had no actual summer or winter blood in him. It was Kierran who was tied to all the courts, Ethan being his uncle didn't magically give him summer/winter blood.

-Meghan was still as pathetic as ever, she was a massive loser to stay with Ash for eternity knowing he cheated on her and that he only grudgingly got with her because she would give him a son. I was hoping she'd dump him for someone who actually loved just her, instead she's stuck with a guy who sees her as second best and was only attracted to her in the first place because she reminded him of the dead love of his life. Ugh.

-Kenzie/Ethan's relationship was actually done rather well. They had a relatively simple and straightforward romance, there was no excessive angst and melodrama, it was just normal.

-Glad the series is finally over, I really hope there's no new spin-off's unless it's about Meghan finally dumping Ash.

Puck winked at me. "I'm sure I'll see you again, whether you like it or not."

"Yeah," I deadpanned. "So looking forward to it."

Puck laughed again. "Don't you forget it. Until the next adventure kiddos."

Sticking his hands into his pockets, the Great Prankster sauntered off, whistling until he reached the edge of the trees and vanished into the shadows.

The first part of the series will always be my favorite but I loved this world and I'm glad I got the chance to be back in it. Ash, Puck and Meghan will forever be my babies..

And as Puck said: Until the next adventure kiddos.

The end. Fin. Ende. Final. Whatever language you're using - the meaning won't change. The epic series is over. Am I sad? Yes. It was a long journey and a memorable one. Did this book disappoint me? Yes. Do I feel sorry for reading it? No. This book is a good buy. Was it a necessary book? No. The first four books were perfectly enough to put an end to this journey, but Julie Kagawa decided to prolong it. I enjoyed this new trilogy but it did not evoke the same feelings. I was happy to see old friends and to meet new ones. The world-building was as rich and beautiful as in previous books. But I wasn't happy to see my dear Ash turning into puppy and letting Meghan make every decision. Nor was I happy with little glimpses into my favorite characters' lives, it was never enough.

This trilogy was a repeat of the first books, only instead of female protagonist we've got a male one. The story basically was the same. And by the end of this last book I was a little bit tired and gladly said good buy to Iron Fey series for good. The old friends are long lost and I was just left with a reminder of a glorious past - that is what this book was for me. Don't get me wrong, I am still a big fan, just not that big anymore. The only character that made me happy was Grimalkin. Bad kitty. He stayed true to himself and I smiled like a fool every time he appeared on the horizon.

“Humans.”
Grimalkin’s bored voice cut through the silence. I drew back, rolling my eyes, as the cat appeared on the saddle of a nearby horse. “I would say we are wasting time,” he said, thumping his tail against the peeling paint, “but it never appears to sink in. Shall we go, before the Between starts manifesting hearts and balloons and other nauseating things?” The cat rose and leaped gracefully off the carousel horse, giving us a revolted look as he landed. “I shudder to think of the reality that might spring up around the pair of you. I believe it would be even more frightening than the carnival.”

Dear Grimalkin, you can find me any day of the week and I will gladly venture with you into the NeverNever to find our own adventure, also on the way there we can grab with us The Big Bad Wolf (I know I know, you can't stand this one but admit he is good at his stuff and will come in handy), one little but very feisty gremlin called Razor and Puck Goodfellow aka The Trickster. Already can't wait for our journey to start.
Sincerely yours,
Nastassja

November 14th 2015: *sigh* It's the end of an epic era.

EDIT: Okay, it's been a while since I finished this book, and I thought maybe I should say more about the ending of one of my all time favorite series. BUT I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO SAY. Seriously, I don't. Not without spoiling, anyways. And I feel like once I start, I'll never stop.

So I'll just say this. Give this series a chance, guys. Even if you're only slightly curious, DO IT. If you love it, that's awesome. If you hate it, that's absolutely fine.

Ugh, I'm gonna miss everything about this series.

I can't even. The Iron Warrior was so much better than I thought it would ever be! I cried, I laughed, experienced all the crazy adventures with the characters and now my beloved Iron Fey series is truly over.

I will miss the beautiful faery world - Nevernever, all its dark corners, disputed courts, strange creatures and all the secrets it holds. I will miss the characters so much - Meghan, Ash, Puck, Grimalkin, Ethan, Kenzie, Keirran..

This series has been with me for such a long time now, I remember when I first opened The Iron King with that terribly unfortunate translation and fell in love with it nonetheless, the story became very dear to me over the years. I realize this couldn't even be called a review, but sometimes the things we love most renders us completely speechless.

I am so annoyed.
I'm upset that no one kicked Keirran's ass.
All talk and no play, children. It's like you live by this rule.

Oh shit.
I almost forgot this existed.
I DON'T KNOW HOW TO FEEL ABOUT THE COVER.
I def know I liked The Forgotten Crown better than The Iron Warrior ugh
-----
Edit: I'm kind of worried now. Already, she's played the I-Killed-You-But-Surprise-They-Aren't-Really-Dead card twice.

I have a love/hate relationship with Julie Kagawa.
While your books are an amusing and exhilarating read... you give us the most torturous endings.
To say I am anticipating this (along with The Forever Song) is an understatement!

~4.5 stars~

Wow, I didn't know I could have so much fun reading this series. Specially that it's bern a while since I finished The original Iron fey series, and this one was as fun as that series, I have no idea why I've been putting this books off for no reason. And it reminded me that how much I enjoyed this world, characters and story, even tho it's very YA-ish, but I'm glad I can still enjoy this type of style.
