Secret Pack #2

Fight or Fly

Rate this book
After a lifetime of hiding, I'm about to share my heat with the pack that saved my life.

Kam and I are in hiding after the Committee's attempt to capture and expose us. Our old lives are over, and our new lives as part of the alphomic underground are just beginning.

Before they do, we'll take this chance to live and love as our kind was always meant to. A fleeting glimpse into a better, happier life, and then we'll return to the fight to free our people from oppression.

At least, that was the plan.

When the operative who recruited us disappears after a meeting gone wrong, everything descends into chaos. As an upper-level member of the underground, Rhys Beckett has information that could raze the secret resistance group to the ground, taking all of us with it.

Jax, Alex, and Flynn are determined to get him back before the worst happens—but when the would-be rescuers start disappearing one by one, our fragile new life is in danger of crumbling around us before it ever really started.

In the end, a bitter enemy may be our only hope for survival.
He may also be our ultimate downfall.

There is still a LOT going on, and it all moves the plot forward in a clear and consistent manner. Still no insta-love, but slowly bonding and exploring what could be if only... This series is quite grim, and the characters haven't magically healed from their trauma because "HEAT". It's honestly refreshing.

excellent sequel

I love this unique take on the omegaverse trope. Packed full of action, politics and surprises, there was still time for pack bonding. I can’t wait for book 3!

I received a free copy from the author and voluntarily reviewed it.

Fight or Fly is the second book in the Secret pack series. I really enjoyed book 1 and was eager to dive into book 2. Book 2 starts off shortly after book 1 ends in the lead up to Leona's heat. I wish I had been able to do a re-read of book 1 before this one so I would've been more into the world and characters as now that was a bit of a struggle. After a few short chapters it dives right into the steamy stuff with a 3 chapter long heat scene. This book has plenty of steam again as well as a great story.

My favorite part of this book is seeing the relationships between the characters and seeing them develop. With 5 characters that are part of this polyamorous relationship there is a lot of connections going on. I like seeing how Leona and Kam interact after having been together for years and how the alphas change that dynamic and add to it. The way Jax and Finn interact with Leona and Kam. The way Jax, Finn and Alex form their own pack and the way they care about one another. And also the way Kam and Alex grow closer and even the way Leona and Alex interact. It's so fun to see it all play out and there's plenty of deepening of the relationships in this book. I really liked seeing them interact and the way that changed over the course of this book. It really is an awesome romance and I really like these characters together. There are multiple point of view, so that also helps to get to know all the characters better.

The story starts with the steam and then turn to danger, which felt a bit odd, but I can see why the author did it that way. The story at first I wasn't sure of, there is a lot of danger, battle with guns as well as torture (off page luckily) and I just wasn't as interested in those parts. The characters don't have a lot of agency at first and there are some parallels to the first book. I also felt like something wasn't making sense. Then there are some big reveals and it all makes sense and falls on it's place. I liked the reveals and the way it changes what we know and seeing the characters react to it all. I am eager to see how things get wrapped up in book 3!

To summarize: I really enjoyed this book. There's plenty of steam, relationship building as well as plot. There is danger, fighting and some big reveals. I enjoy reading about these characters and seeing the way they all interact with one another. I wasn't quite sure where the plot was going and felt like I was missing something, but then when the big reveal hit toward the end it all makes sense and falls on it's place. I look forward to book 3!

Andate a cagar, querida.

The political machine that rules this world rears its ugly head in this sequel.

Leona & Kam are kidnapped (again), and held against their will (again) to be used as a bargaining chip.
New bonds are forged and others are broken beyond repair.

And the smut scenes were *chef’s kiss*. Leona’s heat with Flynn and Jax and Kam and Alex…was just amaze.

My review is written voluntarily after listening to the audio version of this book.

Fight or Fly picks up where Hide or Die book one left off so you must listen to these books in the correct order. Leona and Kam are hiding out after being recused by Rhys and Alex. She's very close to her heat so when she's offered a Heat Contract by Jax and Flynn she decides to accept it. During her heat, there is an interesting development between Kam and Alex which I thought was well done, you can't help but feel for Kam after the way his body was mutilated. Things are looking up for the two packs but will they join together and become one pack?

When Beckett fails to return after attending some scheduled meetings Alex and Flynn go to try to find out what has happened to him, whilst Leona, Kam and Jax are left alone in the safe house. But then it's attacked and they are captured!

Who has them now? What will be their fate? Where are Alex, Flynn and Beckett? Will they all be reunited? What happens next? Almost all these questions are answered before the end of this instalment but for you to find the answers you will need to listen to or read this exciting and different story.

The plot flows well and has enough surprises to keep anyone's interest, I love this different world and can't wait to see what is going to happen in the final book of this trilogy.

The narration is excellent but then it always is when done by the talented Gwendolyn Druyor

TLDR - still obsessed and loving everyone -

Man this series has a chokehold on me. First of all my requested prequel was delivered as bonus content so we got to see how our omegas met (yay!). Secondly I freakin loved this book and loved getting to know the characters more. I definitely wanted more spicy times but given that it’s a short book that still cares about plot I can see how it didn’t all fit.

Okay so for characters I loved seeing Kam come into his own and see Alex less standoffish with the group. Leo is so beautiful trying to balance head and heart, Flynn is still sexy and hilarious and Jax is our not so stable stable guy. I love them all

For plot I was intrigued the direction they took despite not being overly surprised by it. At one point or two it felt like it dragged just a tiny bit but I think it’s just because I wanted to see the characters interacting with each other.

For romance I’m absolutely gobbling up the slow connection that’s building. They seem hesitant and all in both at once which is crazy but working. For smut, hot damn, I was dying, short of breath and flushed cheeks and I do hope that we get another serving of those sandwiches in the 3rd book because it was good, really good. I definitely think some spots could’ve been less fast paced but it wasn’t always that way so I survived.

Overall I’m a goner for these OV RH and absolutely cannot wait to see them all in bed so I can’t die a peaceful death. Onwards to the next one!

3.5/4 stars

Another great book in this series! Leona is due for her heat again, and she decides to let the alphas tend her. And then after that, things go off the rails outside the pack at warp speed. I kept trying to put my Kindle down to go to sleep, but things just kept HAPPENING. So I stayed up way too late & I loved the twists and turns. Now after that cliffhanger of an ending, I need to jump right into the final book.

Just like the first book, I still don't feel super attached to the alphas. I'm not emotionally invested in them as much as Leona and even Kam. I think this book's strength lies more in the external plot than the relationships honestly which is saying something because I tend to prefer very character driven stories. But all the action and intrigue keeps the story going for me even when I don't feel the characters as much as I'd like.

I don’t know why I do it to myself. Start a series knowing full well it isn’t finish. Then when the second book comes out, binge read it immediately and then have to wait until April for the next release

Honestly adore this series. Each character is so pivotal in their own right - their are no boring ‘just there’ kind of characters simply to add more to the harem. The plot doesn’t take a back seat - it truly is front and centre and you really lose yourself in this world.

Can’t wait for book 3!

I have found this series an easy captivating read. I admire that the author has created this world of shifter type people with out the actual changing form. The characters are all multidimensional and the plot is one we are all too familiar with even in modern society. bigotry and supremacy against certain groups of people. You definately need to be into multiperson sex that verges on RH but not entirely. There is so much love and heartache between the pages that sweep the reader up and carries on through the plot, which is clever and interesting.
I look forward to book 3.

short but good

This book feels shorter than the first, but it did a good job of fleshing out the relationships between the five main characters. There was a twist I didn’t expect which was good to have since I saw the writing on the wall with Bennett. I’d like to see the conclusion, though I worry it will be too easy, I’d like to see the struggle more in order for it to feel authentic in the end.

Not sure why I pushed myself to read this one, by 30ish% I wasn't that interested anymore so I skipped to around 65% and it honestly seemed that I missed nothing, the only thing that had happened was they were all captured. I think the writing felt clunky and the characters just fell flat. The only character I liked was Kam. The plot seemed like it would be interesting if it was fully fleshed out. Won't be continuing this series.

My biggest complaint is that I felt disconnected between having read book one weeks ago and book two now. These two books could have been one book and I think I would have liked it a bit more. The society depicted in this series is an interesting one, pretty brutal all things considered. I'll read the next one and decide how I feel about the series as a whole.

This was exactly what I wanted in a sequel! So satisfying and a great read.

Just that this one's focus was mostly on Kam, and Leona felt like a secondary character. It was nice to see the characterization develop, but parts did leave a bad taste in my mouth. Like if we're finally reading about her heat, then why like 3 chapters around Kam and she's like a background fuck? So weird.

I DNF - I sort of lost my connection with them, and I stopped caring to finish out the story. I think the premise for the first book was cool, but that the books are too short to develop a relationship with the characters, and this book series should have been a single, stronger book than a three part series I gave up on.

Binge Read

Started Fight or Fly (Book two of the secret pack series) within moments of writing my review for book one.

Finished just after noon. COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN. If anything, it could be argued it was better than book one. I was so wrapped up in my reading, I lost myself multiple times, completely forgetting I was reading rather than watching a movie.

It was a bit slow at the beginning but it picked up at the end. I loved the story line in this. The characters are all so unique with different stories to tell. Kam is such a sweetheart. Leo is so smart man. The plot was a bit stretched for some parts. It couldve been shorter in my opinion. 4.25 stars

I'm so glad I can binge read this series, because I couldn't deal with having to wait to see how Leona, Kam, Jax, Alex, and Flynn get to their happy endings. I loved Fight or Fly because we see the relationship between our 5 leads grow and evolve both physically and emotionally. The plot still remains compelling and things definitely seem to be getting worse before hopefully getting better.

Loving it

I love the play between the characters. I was surprised by one twist in this one though I saw the other coming. Love how interconnected everything is. This series was well thought-out and I can’t wait to read the ending.

good

This was a good second book in the series. Had some good points to help balance out the bad. You get to see more connection develop between the characters. And a big whopper of a surprise. Looking forward to the next book.

Just didn't get into it. Nothing seemed to be going on.
Maybe if I had been able to read it right after the first one, instead of a couple weeks later I'd have been more interested.
