When an unstoppable murderer matches wits with relentless detectives…
A serial killer is terrorizing the streets of Washington, D.C. In a sign of unparalleled rage, the murderer carves a mysterious symbol into the dead flesh of each victim.
Recognizing the similarity of the killer’s techniques to a previous case, baffled authorities coax legendary FBI criminal profiler Decimus Farr out of retirement. To assist the jaded profiler, NSA Operatives Alton and Mallory Blackwell are assigned to lend their unique skills to the investigation.
But as the killing spree continues, the agents struggle to make progress. Every homicide shows a change in pattern, challenging Farr to establish the profile needed to track down the serial killer. Will the trio discover the treacherous criminal before Farr’s burnout forces him off the case?
Pull up an armchair and join the race to uncover the killer’s identity.
Thriller/mystery author Steve Freeman is a former member of the US Army's Signal Corps, a thirty-four-year employee of a large American technology company, and an avid traveler who has visited every continent but Antarctica. His novels draw from firsthand knowledge of military service, the tech industry, and the diverse cultures of our world.
He currently lives near Atlanta, Georgia with his wife, daughter, and four dogs.
A serial killer is murdering people associated with the medical and pharmaceutical industries. A strange symbol is carved on the bodies. A married couple with unique skills are called in to assist a troubled profiler pulled from retirement to help solve the cases.
This book is awful. The dialogue is clunky, the investigative techniques are lacking and the pace slow. It is repetitious with the so called investigators blabbing the details and having civilians do the the work. The expertise that is so highly touted involves making phone calls to have other people look things up. The big reveal was no surprise at all.
Twists & turns abound in this fast moving book Victims with ties to medical companies but nothing similar, yet people are being murdered every few days. Finding a common denominator is driving this team crazy. Then we have the symbol carved into some of the victims. Edge of your seat mystery. You'll never see it coming.
It was nice to visit Mallory and Alton and see them work through the clues to solve a serial murder case they were brought in on. As always, they work well together and navigate the twists and turns of the case and evidence to bring justice to the victims.
I enjoyed the characters, all likeable. I like books with more than one murder to solve, makes it more interesting. Kept me guessing who the killer was. I liked that!!
First time reading this author's works. It was great! Fast paced, edge of your seat, shocking twists and an "I didn't see THAT coming" kind of an ending! Love how everything got tied up 9n the end!!!!!!!
As with the previous 9-10 books of this author that I have read, this book was also fast-paced, exciting thriller from the first page to last. One key difference is that this was a homicide mystery that involved a series of murders within greater Washington DC area unlike international thrillers of earlier books. The ending was a total, absolute surprise. The only complaint I have is that there are still minor editorial issues... for example, ‘college’ instead of ‘colleague’. Waiting to read any new books that the author brings out.
Rage by Steve Freeman again uses the Blackwell duo to solve a new mystery. This time it's a serial killer and they utilise the help of a burnt out profiler, Decimus. The killer uses different methods to his killing and the underlying connection is the medical field. Where is the rage coming from? The motive for the murders? Some discrepancies like a neck tie and not rope for a garotte. And who benefits? Another good read from the pen of Mr Freeman.
This couldn’t be less gripping. Maybe it’s a one off but book 13 is a snoozer. There’s not much going on. The three man characters all talk to each other like strangers and two of the three are married to each other. Decimus adds nothing of interest even though he’s been a profiler for the FBI (prior to stepping away due to PTSD). Everything is slow, plodding and honestly, just boring. It’s not “finish-able”.
I GOT TIRED OF DECIMUS' ATTITUDE, BY 25% I WISHED HE WOULD JUST GO HOME AND GIVE UP THE CASE. THIS HAD THREE OF THE MOST BORING CHARACTERS, THEY WERE SO FLAT AND UNINTERESTING, EVEN THE BAD GUYS WERE BORING. I WAS GLAD DECIMUS (what a weird name) DECIDED TO DROP OUT AT ABOUT 66% HOPE HE DOESN'T COME BACK. I'M TRYING TO FINISH THIS, WILL IT EVER END? ;<
An intricate case of misguided revenge by mistaken diagnosis of unfortunate accidental death. Intriguing and eventful case of misguided taking of lives due to hateful response to personal distress.
